  • Join us today in TWO of Baltimore’s classic parks to learn about a few structures you probably know and love-the Observatory in Patterson Park and the Moorish Tower in Druid Hill Park! These buildings were intended to be both functional observatories and eye-catching conversation starters for park patrons. Thanks for watching and see you next week with another video!
This is our series called "Five Minute Histories." Every week, we’ll record a short video about a different historic place in Baltimore and post it on our Facebook page and TH-cam channel.

Oh, my wish is that the Moorish Tower would be restored along with the makeover of that section of Druid Hill Park.

I’d love for Baltimore Heritage to do a feature on Worcester Eisenbrandt; they’ve been involved with the restoration of the Pagoda, the Washington Monument, Penn Station, and many other historic structures. The company is almost 100 years old, so their impact on Baltimore’s architectural history is not insignificant. It would be exciting to hear some of the behind the scenes information about the preservation of these wonderful structures.

Fun and informative, thanks! Trying to decide if there is a modern equivalen? With the rise of commercialism in America I think you might look there? Start with the (c) 1910 Bromo Seltzer tower. Haines Shoe House in York. Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. Randy's Donuts. All Less classy, and built for commercial purposes, and all folly nonetheless.

Thanks for another well-researched & informative video! When I lived near Baltimore in Laurel, the Patterson Park Pagoda/Observatory was one of my favorite landmarks in Baltimore, and I always enjoyed climbing to the top during the summer Patterson Park concerts to get an excellent panoramic view of the park & the city! Unfortunately, though, I never visited the Moorish Tower because I didn't learn about it until after my wife & I had moved out of Maryland.

Someone needs to clean the graffiti off of the Moorish Tower, every time I go over there someone has sprayed another scribble on the backside.
