  • On the eve of Independence Day, join us at the Inner Harbor, where it is soon going to packed with throngs of people watching the fireworks overhead. When did we in Baltimore start celebrating July 4th and has it always included fireworks? Find out in today's Five Minute Histories. Thanks for watching and see you next week with another video.
This is our series called "Five Minute Histories." Every week, we’ll record a short video about a different historic place in Baltimore and post it on our Facebook page and TH-cam channel.

Those old fireworks displays at Memorial Stadium were austere compared to what we are accustomed to seeing today. However, back in those days, as kids, were happy to get to see live fireworks. (One shell at a time!)

Johns & Molly: Thanks for another informative video! When my wife & I lived near Baltimore in Laurel, we used to like to watch the Inner Harbor fireworks from the Locust Point area because it was much less crowded, parking was easier, and it was a quick exit afterwards with no traffic problems. Happy Independence Day!

Wonder how many of of those fireworks were made in Maryland? Need to look up the last fireworks factory in Cecil County that blew up.

beg your pardon, Greek fire was mentioned in Paul Doherty novels.
And Guy Fawkes and Catsby blew up Protestant parliament but I do not know if King James 1 was their target.

I read an article that said the 4th wasn't signed into law until 1941! Could that be?! Happy 4th!
