Knowledge Hierarchies & Decolonizing Our Thinking | Critical Reflections on "Skeptical Witchcraft"
มุมมอง 2Kปีที่แล้ว
Hello lovely humans! I'm back with another video... I vaguely remember having said that my next video would be a lot shorter than usual... whoops. This video is one that I struggled to make, and to be honest I don't think I really said everything I wanted to say, or exactly in the way I wanted to say it. I feel like there's a lot I didn't properly convey here, so if anything is confusing I apol...
The Law of Attraction | Some Issues With "Manifestation" Spirituality (And Some Benefits!)
มุมมอง 1.6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Hi all! In this video I dive into the "law of attraction" the idea that you can manifest the things you desire in life through the manipulation of universal energies. It's based on the idea that "like attracts like," so if you have "good vibes" you'll attract positive things into your life, including material wealth. While this sounds great, I think there are certain elements about this "manife...

The Problematic Legacy of Enlightenment Humanism & Why I'm Not a Humanist
มุมมอง 2.9K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Hello lovely people! I've got a long one for you today, all about humanism. Humanism today is a worldview that often acts as a replacement for traditional religion, in that it's a *human-centric*, rather than *deity-centric* framework for morality. It's very much invested in human agency, liberty, and rights. However, humanism wasn't always about equality for *all* on the contrary, Enlightenmen...
Tarot for Skeptics | Using Tarot Cards for Psychological Exploration & More!

In this video, I discuss some ways we can use tarot as “skeptics,” which is to say, how tarot cards can be helpful in ways that go beyond divination. As someone who doesn’t necessarily think that tarot cards can predict the future, in this video I cover some of the ways I use tarot it my own life, and how it can be a powerful tool for psychological exploration. The Religion vs. Science Debate & Some Issues with New Atheism
มุมมอง 3.7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Hello lovely humans! In this video, I dive into the science vs. religion debate, addressing the "conflict theory" promoted by New Atheists, which sees science and religion as being ultimately opposed to one another. I take issue with this overly simplistic binary, as I don't think religion and science are necessarily incompatible with one another. In unpacking some of the history behind this co...

Finding Magic in the Mundane | The Psychology of Synchronicity and Approaching Signs as a Skeptic

Hello lovely people! In this video, I take a look at "signs" and synchronicity from a skeptical perspective. Magical Thinking Explained! | The Psychology of Magical Belief and Superstition

Maybe it's just tangentially related, but I feel like it's worth also talking about how one can and should decolonize their pagan and witch rituals and practices by examining where those elements are appropriated from. The first thing that comes to mind is, like, burning white sage in particular, which not only comes out of context from a variety of indigenous peoples, but the overharvesting of and poaching of white sage to sell to the white pagan and new-age practitioners who practice smudging completely divorced from its original context is also a big problem. Maybe it's just me, but I also don't feel like it's appropriate for euro-cultural pagans to direct their worship towards, like, Egyptian deities while having zero cultural connection to those deities; though I do acknowledge that I'm not really in any kind of position to be telling anyone how to worship either. I just think taking a real, honest look at these things are a part of decolonizing our paganism however.

Sorry, but the earth cannot be a disk for one person and a sphere for another. There's only one truth about this matter, and most humans tend to value truth higher than falsities. So I don't see the benefit of saying that other modes of thinking are on par with the scientific approach. Of course, other peoples' myths shouldn't be wiped from the earth just because they're wrong. But it must be allowed to say that that kind of magical thinking is untrue at best and harmful at worst.

THIS IS what I was looking for. I do not wanted to engage in cultural appropriation in any form so I do reject the call of deities. CAuse I respect the people who created them I believe cultures can be owned by different groups, and we have no right to burst into a party we weren't invited into. Secular/skeptic witchcraft is what I was looking for. <3 I just didn't had the name for this "child". :D

Thank you so much for this! I just discovered atheopaganism tonight and cried lol- I feel so seen and validated in how I view the world. Adopted into Southern Baptist dad and intense Catholic mom (no hate to them or anything that’s just what they were led to believe). Strict cosmic guilt based views to say the least. Went to fundamentalist co-ops (homeschool schools) with all Bible/creationism based curriculum (aka evolution = evil god zapped everything into existence). I struggle with some religious trauma/ OCD etc. but still find solace in rituals (I do some witchcraft during full moons with meditative self love intent), routine, and community. I was very lonely growing up and nature/the woods is always where I felt safe. I could escape the ruthless god I was so scared of. I am thankful my parents love the earth and encouraged us to explore. I’m going to check out the groups you recommend because I really am craving to meet some likeminded people (which if anyone is reading this please feel free to reach out 🙂💖💯). Like many have mentioned in comments, I have some pagan friends but I just can’t get behind the supernatural aspect of it. I think the stories and symbols we learn are important and can aid in self growth. Such stories are only a natural unfolding of our evolution as sentient beings. Shape cultures etc.

A "day late and a dollar short" I found your channel :) As a soft atheist and a pagan with strong animistic leanings, I truly appreciate your breakdowns of various modes of pagan and skeptical thought. I'm a new subscriber, and I'll be going through your videos :) Edited to add- Chaos magic has been the SINGLE most successful practice I've had. I was VERY incredulous but then I said "What the heck...do it!" It literally changed my job in less than a year (I got exactly what I wanted, though no one thought I'd get it), my health in about 9ish months, and my servitor truly helped me with several relationships in my life within a span of a mere 2 years.

As I don't believe in deities outside of myself and see God and Goddess as archetypes of myself, I believe that all is Divine. As a Pantheist Naturalism Pagan, I believe in the spiritual realm, but it is all around and within me. I had Christians thought I was atheist and I can see I may be a little Athestic now.... Interesting video.

Science or the scientific method is universal in the sense that everyone that uses it correctly get the same results. This is because science only studies that which everyone can repeatedly observe. Things that fall outside this category aren't "fake" by this reasoning, nor are they "real", science merely makes no claims about such things. It's purpose is to look at things that are reproducable and observable for everyone, and put out a theoretical framework that best predicts the behaviour of physical objects. Saying that science is absolute knowledge and completely overshadowing everything else is wrong, but it is universal in the sense that everyone will reach the same results using it, maybe with different words, but the physical behaviour they describe must be the same.

Awesome video! I love how you include creative things to put on one’s altar. Personally I have an ornament of the Star Wars character Ahsoka. Not because Star Wars is important to me, it is and influenced my spirituality. But I have a very cool psychic friend that I gave that nickname as I saw her and I like Anakin and Ahsoka from Star Wars. So it’s my way of including her spiritually. Though to the outsider it would look odd and probably out of place. Unorthodox crafting is the best! Love your channel

I experienced a psychotic episode 5 years ago where I saw signs everywhere and jumped to supernatural conclusions… I still have a tendency to see signs, but I just don’t give them as much attention. Recently, though, I attended a week long silent retreat and afterwards I decided to look up some TH-cam videos about synchronicity. That sent me down a rabbit hole because there are so many videos that talk about synchronicity vaguely and that jump to supernatural conclusions about it. A lot of popular videos about synchronicity will say make sure you pay attention to these signs! And I’m like, dang this seems to be the oppositional to the idea of looking inwardly towards trusting yourself. It’s basically hinting at the idea that you can’t trust just yourself, you need these external signs to be complete. Do You have any tips for not letting yourself be influenced by people who try to influence us to believe in supernatural conclusions?

Hopefully you can get some rest and it's good to hear you're prioritising self-care! ❤ I also found it interesting to hear your thoughts about the words skeptical and skeptical witch. When I first found your channel it was so important to hear those skeptical/agnostic ideas (and they still are important for me) because I was trying to find my place within witchcraft and it helped to realise that I could create my own version of witchcraft/magick. But I understand that your view has evolved and I love to learn more from you and widen my scope as well. I'm also super fascinated by animism which I'm exploring slowly as well. Absolutely loved your presentation (and the panel with Sedna!), definitely my fave things at the con and the "soft" animism/new animism and eco-materialism angle really hit me dead center in a bullseye as far as my own burgeoning and developing esoteric/magical practice! Excited to see more videos on those topics from you, but yeah absolutely go at your own pace. Whatever "regular" means, I'm down for any schedule that lets you express a passion and explore it while like not worsening migraine/mental health. Also completely agree with the Greek root of inquiring and questioning deeper into things being more what I identify with as a "skeptic", like in the sense of Pyrrho (or like, on the topic of appropriation, the likely Cārvāka/Lokāyata sages Pyrrho ripped his ideas off from while on campaign with Alexander in India same as Aristotle ripped off Buddhist and Hindu sages he debated while on the same campaign) rather than modern idk like reddit bro "skepticism", and definitely think critical has less baggage than skeptical despite that root being something I align with so much!

I would love a vlog about what made you change your views on witchcraft and what are they today? My love goes to you on your health. I have been seeing many women developing autoimmune disorders. I had dealt with chronic severe inflammation, pain and headaches for over 6yrs and it continued to get worse till I was bedridden. I researched and educated myself for years since Doctors only made things worse with pharmaceuticals. Today I am independent again and only have 1-2 headaches a month compared to before having them daily. My inflammation has gone down significantly and no longer need pain medicine. @@theskepticalwitch6611 Out of all the things I tried, there were a few that worked. The immune system was high jacked with foods that I was allergic to without knowing like: Gluten, Dairy and surprisingly some food preservatives. #1 eliminated food allergens #2 I did a parasite cleanse (1st with food-grade Diatomaceous Earth for 6months) (2nd Zahler ParaGuard Cleanse liquid drops for a month) #3 Coffee Enemas once a day (cafe MaM is specially made for enemas and is organic. ( coffee enemas reduce inflammation and pain as well as purge heavy metals and other toxins the have accumulated in the liver for years) Drink water or fresh juice before enemas* #4 I took Medical Grade RSO (Rick Simpson Oil) I found the best quality from: Cannabis Health Radio Podcast. This is potent for pain, autoimmune disorders and cancer. It’s intended to be used for 3 to 6 months ONLY. Except in cases were the patient has rare cancers that are allowed to take a lower maintenance dose to stay in remission. - The RSO was a game changer for me. My pain went from severe to mild and my insulin resistance healed and lost 40lbs as a result. I ended up with better digestion, better sleep, better concentration and memory and stronger immune system. #5 After 3 months of RSO I replaced it with NMN+TMG from donotage.com I researched for months and found that this company is transparent with their products and have 3rd party testing which is a must when buying supplements. I take 1g of NMN in the morning with water and 2 capsules of TMG at bedtime with water. You can learn why about NMN and TMG online. I recommend research documents or studies from David Sinclair to better understanding the benefits and importance of them. - Lab work is very important in my opinion as it sets a baseline for where you’re at health wise. I recommend a full CBC (complete blood count) and a thyroid and liver panel. This will be of great help to see if there are any hormonal imbalances, infections or abnormalities. Later you can check for inflammation markers and nutrients. I don’t recommend a food allergen test as they are not too reliable. You do best saving money and just doing an “elimination diet”. Best of luck. If you have any other questions feel free to ask me. I’m happy to help in anyway I can. Take care🌸

I think it’s best to not skip health steps as they ensure your success in healing. I learned through many years of reading medical literature and research that the best approach is: • Eliminating • Clearing • Restoring • Maintaining - To (eliminate) the things or foods that affect our bodies. To (Clear) the body of toxins, parasites and heavy metals, so our organs can function properly and efficiently. To (Restore) our health through environment, supplements, foods best suited for our body type and gentle medicine. To (Maintain) your health by always educating yourself and keeping healthy habits that best suit your body type and lifestyle❤️

Your practice sounds so much like what I’m trying to cultivate in my own, especially the inclusion of more playful elements and folklore… I was in a rut with my witchcraft and spirituality for a while, and I’ve found putting more emphasis on just making it fun has been so helpful. I feel you with the chronically low energy haha. But if you’re able to I definitely recommend checking out the recordings, there were some really wonderful talks and discussions relating to things like animism and getting to know/working with one’s local environment on a deeper level 😊

Very interesting point of view, could you please elaborate regarding implementing folklore in your witchcraft practice?

@@Snoopitsa0405 for me it influences how I think about and incorporate land and household "spirits" into my practice. I know other witches use it to inspire and inform the writing of new spells or incorporating folk correspondences into their spellwork. Also I just often prefer fairy tale figures over deities. I saw the author Kelden at a conference last winter and his talks about what exactly folklore is (anthropologically speaking), the different parts (stories vs superstitions vs rituals vs clothing etc) was really cool and I got a couple of his books. I haven't read them yet, but one fo them is next on my list for late autumn reading.

Please develop your ideas on animism with us. I like to realise, as I garden, that there are other agents in the world I inhabit. From the birds that want to share my crops to the microorganisms whose space I disturb every time I dig I try to be conscious of them and what we can do to get along better.

That’s beautiful, I think gardening can be an amazing way of more deeply connecting with other than human beings. Thank you for your comment and suggestion, I’ll definitely make some videos on animism 😊

Ahh okay, so I can double up at least one of those things. All of my pieces of amethyst have to been given to me by my mother, one as early as six years old and it was a heart shaped one. Memory/Familial connection and crystal in one! And for the pop culture, shoot, guess I'd better put a picture of Sigourney Weaver (as Ellen Ripley) on my altar.

Interesting. I'm getting interested in tarot and oracle decks and am interested in them in the way you describe - for psychological exploration, Jungian psychoanalysis in a way.

Fine, I consider myself and agnostic pagan atheist or at least a pagan atheist, there are people that consider agnostic as a kind of atheist, so that's why I say these two. My base is Nordic with influences of Japanese (Bushido) and Old Greece, my practice is based on sword martial art, exercises, meditations and glossolalia (which, in my case, is a talent or ability that came from the sexual act), I build my own way and I've built part of it yet. And you, what do you think of agnostic x atheist???

Atheism its not just disbelief in a monotheist god, but a materialism, where theres no soul, spirit, live after death etc! If you believe in reencarnation, for example, youre not atheist! At least in CCCP people were honest!

As an atheist Magician, I find this concept fascinating. However how I would go about it is performing the Ritual related to the spell and tweak it to infuse the jar, which would be Filled with the Ingredients of the Ritual(s), and then Become a ready to use spell cast. I love it!

lol languages and labels. reminds me of the chomsky-foucault debate and david foster wallace's this is water. posthumanism is to humanism as atheism is to theism. even if it's different it's really the same. why not relativism. you can totally be an agapic posthumanist misanthrope. omg language is so hilarious.
