  • In this video, I explore what "skeptical" spell casting might look like, and provide some tips for doing magic as a skeptical witch. I consider spell casting from both a psychological approach and a chaos magick based approach, both of which I use in my own practice.
Thanks for watching, and leave your comments below if you have any thoughts on skeptical witchcraft and spellcasting!

I do witchcraft for self-transformation mostly and I call the four elements. I love writing poems to use in my rituals. You're right that it can be simple, but I find that it helps to do an elaborate set up because that's how I get into a ritual mental space.

For sure, I also like doing really elaborate rituals every now and then, because it does help with that shift in consciousness. Plus it’s a lot of fun! And I love using poetry in mine as well-though sadly I can’t write it to save my life haha. It’s wonderful you can 😊

I just want to thank you for these videos. I'm a strong skeptic from a very scientific family, and I have been dancing around my beliefs for YEARS now. I've finally stopped avoiding it, and your videos (and website) are helping me enormously. Thank you so much!

I’m so glad my content is helpful for you! My dad is also a hard atheist so he doesn’t really understand my interest in Paganism/witchcraft, but there comes a point when you need to stop caring about what others think and just do what makes you happy and fulfilled!

as a skeptical witch, as im so glad to finally have a name for who i am, when I over think or question what I'm doing with a spell or magick work and my mind starts going into a frenzy of "not doing it right", I will stop and say to myself "oh yeah, it doesn't matter- this isn't even real" and then i can just drop all the fluff and carry on with my original intention, haha. Works a charm!

Thank you so much for your videos! Now I don't feel weird anymore for believing in it but not really at the same time and still practicing it. And now I'm able to explain it to my atheist family and friends who make fun of me lol. I never knew how to put it in words, this really helped me a lot, thank you

I am a chaos magick practitioner so I often operate in a suspension of disbelief. Most of the time I do psychological witchcraft, but a lot of the times I do use the energetic and spirit models, depending on what my working is or what I want to accomplish that day. If I'm at the altar, I'm operating in a suspension of disbelief, but when I'm not, I'd probably consider myself a Naturalistic Pantheist Pagan.

Incredible! Wonderful! Inspiring! I love how freeform and individual and unconstrained skeptical witchcraft is. Thank you thank you!

Thank you so much! I also really love the freedom that skeptical witchcraft allows us--more "traditional" ways of practicing are always there for us if that's what we're drawn to, but we certainly shouldn't have to feel constrained by them... or anything at all!

Thank you so much for your videos! I haven’t been getting into witchcraft and I am definitely a Skeptic witch! It means so much to be able to find and learn from videos like this. I hope you keep making videos and practicing the skeptic witch way if it suits you. It has been so amazing to know someone shares my views!

Whats been helping me get there is seeing all the spells and rituals ive engaged with without really thinking about them as such. All the song lyrics ive connected with and repeated in my head and played when i needed the affirmation of whatever line it is that struck me like building my resolve back up when the end of the school year was coming around and i was certain my grades were not going to be enough, or the lines i would repeat in my head like a mantra or to make into an automatic response to deal with anxiety or low confidence or criticism untill it was the natural thought and no longer something i had to do conciously, the collection of sentimental objects around my personal space and how i will get out things that make me feel a certain way or call on certain memories like things i gathered from the mountains or the beach or that belonged to my grandparents or that i made, how certain smells or tastes or sounds would take me to some mental space and change my mood.
And as someone who was raised christian, all the little prayers i still think sometimes just for things like a safe trip for myself or someone else or that things turn out alright or what have you, i never really expected these to absolutely have an external effect they were just putting a thought out hoping for the best and it was up to god or fate or luck or what have you from there.
Im realizing ive always interacted with spells and rituals, i didnt expect them to have an effect with 100% certainty so whats so different about witchcraft. Im tired of not seeing meaning in things, i wish i believed in magic, but i feel like i can get close enough to get the mental health benefits from it.

This is so helpful and you asked if you were making sense. You are. It’s like the suspension of disbelief when you’re watching a play. Or using your imagination to create the positive momentum you need in your life. It can still be so powerful for you and that’s what matters. I’m very grateful for your videos. I’ve always been interested in the occult but danced around it, partially for it being such a taboo thing to ask questions about sometimes. But yeah, fuck it, I’m finally just letting go. ✨🐉

Thanks so much, and I'm so glad this video resonated with you :) I think things like witchcraft and the occult are becoming increasingly less taboo these days, which is great because now all these different and really diverse communities are starting to emerge, all of them with different perspectives on how to approach things like magic and spirituality. There's never been a better time to just say fuck it and start digging into the things you're interested in haha :)

Yes! You don't "have" to include anything to do witchcraft. do what feels right and makes sense for you.

Thank you very much for this video. Do you maybe have a video or other resource of how can a sceptical someone interested in witchcraft get involved without casting spells? I would like to know what those other options can be. Thanks in advance xx

I’d recommend checking out r/SASSwitches on Reddit if you use that platform, there’s a ton of great ideas shared on there by atheist and skeptical witches for engaging in witchcraft without necessarily casting spells. And it’s something I might do a video on soon! 😊

psychological and energetic does not have to go beyond our own minds. thought is energy traveling on our neropath ways. brainwaves are detectable. we can even see what part of the brain we are thinking with. But there is no proof that our brains are interacting with the energy outside of our bodies. Our bodies are powered by energy. Our brains do interact with our bodies. Food is energy, we eat it and it becomes a part of our energy. I am attracted to food but I am pretty sure food is not attracted to me. lol. I'm just thinking. :)

    • @theskepticalwitch6611
      @theskepticalwitch6611  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yeah that makes sense! I’d say though that our brains don’t just interact with our bodies, but are synonymous with our bodies. So anything psychological also includes the body!
