  • Hello all! In this video, I vlog a week in my life as a religious studies PhD student & witch. I filmed a bit of my process for writing papers and presentations, as well as for taking notes. I also rearrange my altar for Yule/the winter solstice in this video and do some spell work to help with school, bringing witchcraft and academics into a kind of synthesis with one another. Sorry the video is a bit long, but it's my first attempt at vlogging & I hope you enjoy it!

This is my cuppa tea! I'm currently a high school student in a specialized Humanities track, and I'm interested in Anthropology, mostly in cultural/religious studies. It's not exactly a popular study choice with my peers, but I took the road not taken anywho. I'm glad to finally find and look up to someone with the same aspirations as I do! Wishing you the best in every path you encounter~

Nice! That’s exciting, are you planning to study anthropology or religious studies in college/university? And I know the general sentiment can seem to be that STEM is the way to go, but I think studying the humanities and social sciences can be extremely valuable-it allows us to expose ourselves to so many different world views, cultures, and philosophies which undoubtedly helps us develop as people. Studying anthropology and religious studies has helped make me a better person I think, and has provided me with so many skills, both professional and life skills! Best of luck with your studies too!

I´m a new subscriber and VERY excited for more videos about academics! I´m interested in religious practices but I´m also a skeptical atheist, so reigious studies sounds super interesting to me!

I got into anthropology because I was interested in religious studies. After graduating, my focus changed depending on my job and other interests. But your channel reminded me how much I love that field of study. Maybe if I get a chance to get a phd in the future, I'll get back to religious studies... In the meantime, I love reading and watching your content!
Also your cat is the cutest!

Thanks very much! I actually did my Masters in Anthropology, which led me to religious studies. Doing a PhD can be rough, but worth it I think if you’re passionate about what you’re working on 😊 what area of religious studies/anthropology are you interested in?

@@theskepticalwitch6611 Good question! It made me think what area of religious studies I'd like to research if I get the chance. I like topics related to digital communication and digital communities, and when it comes to religious studies I've always been interested in how globalization interacts with local interpretations in many religions. Particularly for me, I both practice and love researching about paganism and buddhism, and those practices and the communities built around them are quite different depending on which hemisphere and continent you're on.
I also love the concept of symbolic efficiency in rituals and symbolic healing, but I find that quite complicated to research.
Of course you're well-versed in religious studies, so if you ever want to share any kind of research paper or review or anything you'd like to recommend, I'd love to watch or read!

@@calidabrisadeverano oh wow your research interests sound fascinating! And digital communities is definitely an important area in the field right now. A lot of my work going forward will probably look at that going forward, as the Pagan community I’m interested in is mostly online. I’ll certainly let you know if I find any interesting research being done along those lines! 😊 Cyberhenge by Douglas Cowan is one book that comes to mind in terms of online Paganism, but it’s from the early 2000s so a bit dated haha.

@@theskepticalwitch6611 Yeah, most books and research papers I've seen are from before 2010, but religious communities are kepping up with social media and different platforms, from youtube to discord to tiktok!
