I’m not a big fan of EF MS, but I’m actually a bit fond of Guncannons, specially the RX-77D, probably my favorite version of the bunch. The RX-77-3 comes in 2nd place, but it’s one of the features it shares with the RX-77-4 that I want to talk to you about: the beam cannon. My take on the RX-77-4 is that it was developed at California Base after its recapture, which is interesting, since it suggest some of the captured facilities and data could have been used for its development. Case in point, I’m aware of the conflicted background of the MS-06K Zaku Cannon, which some older sources claimed it had a beam cannon, rather than a ballistic one, partly the reason the EF and Titans were still using it as late as UC 0087. While this claim has been obscured overtime by other depictions of it using a regular ballistic cannon, with 08th MS Team we saw a push to show a different larger cannon that could better fit the description of an oversized artillery piece that cause balance issues. Games like Target in Sight saw proper Zaku Cannons with this weapon and we also figured out that it is the same cannon used by the bulkier MS-09K-1. On a related note, California Base also later produced the MS-05L, which on paper sounds like a very similar concept: a beam weapon powered by a secondary backpack generator. Back to my original point, maybe the RX-77-4 were created using the data and facilities used to produce MS-06K with beam cannons, using RX-77-3 units to first test it out. The fact that the RX-77-4 is using a single beam cannon like the MS-06K or MS-14C is what began making me suspicious of this. Other weird details of the MS-06K are its legs, which seem awfully similar to the YMS-09 & YMS-09D, which always made me wonder if they could imply that it was meant to hover on the ground as well. On paper it would be something similar to the Recksnow from G Reconquista: a ground hovering unit with a shoulder mounted beam weapon. The more recent addition of the MS-06GD, a OYW ground hovering Zaku, to the Zeon roster only further convinced me that such design do might be possible. In an old mechatalk thread I recall Mark saying that maybe the original intent was for the MS-06K to be related to an older iteration of the MS-06R3, from MSV rather than the M-MSV version: www.mechatalk.net/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=15863&start=60#p355769 Incidentally, giving the Zaku Cannon ground hovering capabilities as well might fit well with the idea that the Gelgoog can pretty much do the same with its leg thrusters. I know its late but honestly if i was a neo zeon remnant commander i would choose the zaku IV over the gear doga anyday to issue to my troops however the hope for the zaku IV every really being mass-produced died with axis so the chances of me getting my hands on any would slim to none so i would likely beforced to use the geara doga.

I love how the thumbnail is basically like the vanilla gm thumbnail but flipped. Now we have 2/4ths of an earth.

Yeah thinking about it like why did no one think okay let's build a secondary generator with a big magazine and a double layer railgun instead of a shoulder Cannon or keep the cannon the way it was but put on a extra generator and mount hip railguns for extra firepower and the generator could power other thrusters so it can move better on Earth and in space
