    I love what you are doing! I too am a "beaver believer". Before the invasion of North America by the Europeans, as much as ten percent of the land was covered in beaver created wetlands. After the invasion, nearly all the beavers were trapped and killed and the wetlands destroyed. Billions of animals, birds, and insects disappeared. The beavers are the key to a healthy environment. We need them desperately. I wish you great success in protecting your beavers!

      Thank you very much for the comment. I get seriously ticked off at those people who just don't get it. They call the beaver a nuisance animal, yet they love to paddle the water ways these fury little people create. The habitat loss is the greatest worry as there are a myriad of animals dependent upon the dam builders. Thanks for caring about the wilderness and all it's denizens.

    Thank you for sharing the film and your insights! Here in the UK beaver introductions are taking place, mostly in controlled circumstances by the Ministry of Agriculture to observe the effects and if any issues arise. Some beavers have popped up in unexpected places and are just being monitored rather than destroyed. Beavers have been absent for 400 years here!

    • @RGWrighthawks
      @RGWrighthawks 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow - I had no idea they were even in the UK. 400 years is way too long for such an animal to be absent. Some people will perceive them as pests simply due to the change these wild ones can make to the landscape. I find them fascinating. their family life is amazing to watch. Close knit and caring. I truly due hope that the introduction goes well and your watersheds will rebound which will in turn restore many other species to your landscape. Thank you very much for the comment.

    It's been estimated that at one time there were over 400 million Beaver living in North America. that was of course before colonization of North America from Europe. Today that number is estimated to be 15 million, a fraction of what it was, I think it's 3.75%, but it is rising.

      Isn't it crazy how humans have decimated so many animal populations. These big rodents are so integral to our water systems - I am glad they are rebounding. I do worry about the two living in the pond I filmed as they will be at risk due to their visibility to people. I will try to keep them safe. I read a very detailed account of these animals in a book entitled "Once They Were Hats" in which the author breaks down the reason for the Beavers decline and it's slow comeback. Most other sites that review the fuel cannister cookers recommend a height of 1" max above the flame outlet. Also, a cover on the pot would trap heat and always cooks faster. I found a place online that sold 6hr cans! Mine lives in my car so always with me. Good review!

      Thanks buddy - this particular unit is sold with the support hardware for the pot. There is no way to adjust the height using the equipment as provided. I did remove the cross bars and placed the pot on the support ring but the flame suffered due to a loss of oxygen. You could make a ring of rocks to adjust the height; however, as this unit is only a backup to my main stove, it suffices if I find myself in a pinch. depends on where you live.

    • @RGWrighthawks
      @RGWrighthawks 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello Dave - Where you live has little to do with it. There are places on the planet where almost everything is poisonous yet the native population of those places managed to survive for thousands of years. Reality based knowledge of the area is the only thing that matters. Once you obtain knowledge of the creatures and plants which live with you, fear takes a backseat to caution and reason. I speak this way because I grew up with elders who taught me how to move through places that City Folk would find terrifying. It is simply a lack of understanding that causes the fear. The Fear causes disdain, disdain leads to misinformation and that is what ends the life of a wild one who was simply on the same trail as a terrified misinformed human.

    Really enjoyed this. Unfortunately, I still get the EbGb sometimes, even camping in my own backyard. I live in a city outskirt, and we have lots of houses piled on top of each other, yet we have bear, fox. (I don’t worry too much about him), coyotes, and Bobcat. All seen in backyards within just a few houses around me. And of course, my wife loves to feed the birds…. 🙄

    • @RGWrighthawks
      @RGWrighthawks 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe the reason people get freaked out when camping is due to the fact that their senses are fully awake. Hearing, smell, taste, touch, visual all become feral and real. This then propels the "civilized brain" into sensory overload. This coupled with false stories about the wild ones creates a flight or fight response. I have been in the wild places for my entire 63 years on this planet and I can promise you that you will be safe if you camp with respect to yourself - no cooking in or near your tent - and if you respect the wild ones you are sharing the space with. They want nothing to do with you. Another point is that Fear has the same chemical response as aggression. It you are afraid of the animal, it will perceive you as a threat. The animal will choose - if it is able, to flee. If cornered, a mouse can become dangerous. No fear my friend - you have more to fear from humans than you do the wild ones. Thanks for reaching out. Happy camping.

    Thank you. Perfect timing for me because I will be camping alone this year for the first time in a long time and I expect to feel some fear but I know how to turn that into wonder the same way that you do, brother. Rule of thumb, one eye is a prey-type animal. Two is a predator. Think "racoon" first though. 😂 Always give them a way to see that you have two eyes. And yes, it's not poetry if it doesn't rhyme. I don't subscribe to TH-cam channels. Yet here we are...

      I am glad to hear that you are going to camp solo for the first time in many years. The greatest fear I have ever faced in the wild is that which is produced by my own imagination. Learning to be alone with your thoughts, without any interference, is a milestone. It will take time to get used to the voice within your own head. Nature gives us that gift - if we allow her in. As I have stated, I have been immersed in the wild for my entire 63 years of existence and can promise you that finding that which makes you unique, can only be found deep within the embrace of the wild. Fear is normal; we fear what we don't know and sometimes that which we do know. Fear; however, will preclude the ability to see that which you came out here to find. In my part of the world, there are no predators which consider us food - they do consider us as a nuisance. Fear is perceived as aggression. Breath deep and soak it in friend and let me know how you made out. Thanks for the chat.

    I’m surprised there aren’t more comments on this video. With that being said, Over the years I’ve experienced many strange things while hunting, hiking, and camping as an avid outdoorsman. One of the things I’ve learned is that any time you come across a creature that has “Bioluminescent eyes, you are dealing with something completely supernatural. For example, so many people who’ve had personal accounts with Dogmen will all tell you that their eyes glowed a bright yellow as if their eyes were a pair of headlights to a car. Now Personally, I think anytime you are dealing with a cryptid who possesses any eye shine or glowing eyes especially at night, you’re experiencing something connected to the fallen angels and that’s exactly what we see in this video. I don’t know who filmed this but that person has balls made of solid steel. Thank you for sharing and I look forward to seeing more of your content! Take care and be careful out there!

      I bought them at Home Depot - you will find them in the section where they sell the pine boards. They will run you roughly 6 bucks for a pair. Well worth it. Thanks for the comment.

      Good for you. I purposely did that to see who is watching. The animal in the video is a white tailed deer. 1 am in the morning. Their eyes glow due to the number of rods and cones in their eyes. Good call.

      @@dr4g0ngir12 Not sure what you mean. I always walk through the forest at night. I don’t usually use a light but I was looking for my buddies the beavers. I spotted the eyes glowing back at me and flooded the area with my light. At first I had no idea what I was looking at but then the animal turned and I recognized its profile.

      Hello Chris - This is the first time this year I have seen these guys - They are indeed painted turtles. They can live up to 40 years. When you see these little turtles basking in the sun, you know spring is sprung. Hope all is well at the homestead.
