Protocol 223
Slightly delayed due to life reasons, but here is the full version of what I'd originally made for the start of the last video
The idea with this is daft. It's a "Found" videotape recording of a disaster that occurred due to an accident Noel Edmonds caused. In order to undo this, a protocol has to take place in which the world is restored to it's last recovery point.
This is all balls obviously... or is it?

Television Affair 23 - Local Cable channels Part 2
มุมมอง 1.3Kหลายเดือนก่อน
It’s time for Episode 23 where we look at more local cable tv channels and franchises. Some of the networks we’ll be covering includes Birmingham Cable, some of the old Nynex network including Bolton, Peterborough and Norwich, I couldn’t find footage for a lot of these channels so I’ve had to make do with what I could find. There was loads that I missed out on because there’s not always records ...

When a company used to win a franchise from the authority to run a cable company, they usually promised some sort of local channel. This might include extra entertainment such as an exclusive film channel for the area, or some sort of public access TV. This would usually be organised by the cable company for local people to book out equipment and make programmes for the channel Some of those mi...

It’s time for episode 20! And to celebrate we’re carrying on as usual, looking at even more defunct channels. This time around we’re looking at an american import in FX, originally from the states, the UK had it’s own version, but now it’s gone. In this mega short episode of the Television Affair, we take a look at some more defunct channels. How many shows manage to get lightning in a bottle twice? Chris/Gaby era was awesome and so original and refreshing. Johnny/Denise era was even better in my opinion. I remember the crushing morning of turning on the telly after the school holidays and seeing the Rick/Sharron era had kicked in and being gutted, didn't work from the get-go (Rick was awesome on other shows as you said) Also, hadn't realised Johnny got the gig after covering a holiday. Graham Norton did the same for Jack Docherty and the rest was history! I'd be too scared to take a break if I was a presenter 😁

The Children's Channel (TCC) is the BEST!!! Thomas & Friends aired on that channel!!! I Wish it was still alive & kicking & also here's some missed opportunities for TCC: 1. air Thomas & Friends from 1987-1998/2000 because I love that show & I can imagine was the promos & airings look like from 1987-1998/2000 2. Air The Magical World of Gigi from late 1985-1998/2000 because the 1st ova was only released in the UK & the USA. I love the opportunity to air the show on TCC from late 1985-1998/2000 & I also want vhs releases from The Video Collection from 1986-late 1995, toys by Hasbro from 1985-late 1990 & many merch from 1985-late 1993 & 3. Air Mio Mao from 1984-1998/2000 because why not.

Yeah, the whole generic name thing is not just a UK problem lol. We have (or had, making a video on that at some point in the future) an over-the-air channel in the US that was known as "This TV" which was a name I always despised for the same reason. Not sure when the deep dive into that is gonna happen because it's going to take me way too long to find footage for it because of that terrible name. Hello from America, love seeing some of these broadcast oddities from other parts of the world considering our own homegrown ones are really just scratching the surface.

MCI Worldcom wasn't a Cable company, not in the UK anyway. Did you know BT was behind MCI before it acquired the collapsing worldcom business. Today it is Verizon Business. It was national fibre network competing against Mercury/C&W and Energis. Colt, scottish Telecom,Norweb/your communications and thus also sprung up with most of these taken over by Cable & Wireless and themselves taken over by Vodafone in 2012. Vodafone is the 2nd largest fixed line communications network when you combine the amount of fibre and coverage. Virgin Media ia much smaller because it is not fibre to the premises and most customers are residential ones

Although I'm American, I've researched CITV to learn more about the fall of TV. And I have to agree CITV seemed to be at it's peak during the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s [I'm a 2000s person but I always preferred older cartoons]. Engie Benjy is one of the best CITV programs IMO, the show had chaotic energy and dry British sarcasm. It probably helps the show that Cosgrove Hall were the ones responsible. I'm still mad ITV shut down Cosgrove Hall [note that they didn't even try to bring any 2000s Cosgrove Hall show to the states, they might have been planning to shut Cosgrove Hall down for YEARS].

Yeah I didn't want to put too much of a detailed thing about it because i worry about going off point but it's all interesting. From what I understand is that the company that was comcast was purchased by - what I can only think of as the peacock logo'd company - i think in something like the last 10 years they purchased comcast and is known now as xfinity, and the comcast name was taken as the wider name.

@@jonkasonic Ah okay, didn't know how much depth you want to put into it, as there is a lot to cover, as cable was a lot more fragmented back then. I lived in the cable franchise next door to Birmingham - Cable Midlands. But I can recall seeing NYNEX and Cable and Wireless manhole covers the few times I've been to Manchester. I have a CATV Yearbook from 1994 which lists all the local franchises and rollouts, you can have a copy if you like. :)

That Daddies advert takes me back. That’s probably what got me into wrestling AND Daddies sauce. Remember me and my old man acting like bellends at tea time and chanting “EASY! EASY!” pouring the sauce out. So advertising definitely works. Memory unlocked.

Loved the Nick Ross supercut, and I'm really interested in doing my own research into a local community television experiment that apparently happened where I live in the 70s...

Thanks :) That would be cool. If you do it might mean some extensive searching though. I bet footage exists but it's inside someone's video collection somewhere in a garage or loft. Also some videos I had got this white stuff on the tape and if you get that in your recorder it can make it dirty. I was one step away from emailing the individual sites to see if they had an archive. Many of the cable company's local channels were closed by 2002 and if it's a thing like what happened in Swindon, a number of the videos were saved from the skips

@@jonkasonic It might be a challenge because of how early it is... If anything does exist from it it would probably be pre-Beta, so I'd be looking at film or quad tape reels... As for the white stuff, that's mould, baby, you need to be careful with it and clean it properly!
