Should the Big 12 & ACC Merge? | SEC & Big 10 Meeting to Discuss Future
The big 12 needs it's own network
Smells like Big East thinking, when we were in Tha conference.
Wild Ute is direct, he tells it like it is, Although Utah is having a horrific season by their standards he is poinyet.WV IMO, would have better #'s if they won some big games, I just wonder if NB is the man to steer them that direction.
I don’t think so.
Just more money the fans have to pay to watch games. And the school's don't get any more money from it now maybe later.
Why would you need to pay more money? TBS and TNT are on basic cable.
If the Big12 can continue to win at a high level in basketball & pick up their game in football. Projecting forward, the Big12 could end up with a huge media deal with all 4 partners involved, but they also need to expand with the right schools too, both in football & basketball. Uconn will deliver for basketball, but you need a football school to bring eyeballs. Also, if you create a basketball juggernaut, having all 4 media partners involved could lead to huge payouts in 2030 & beyond. Expansion will lead to more content for all media partners involved moving forward & what they will be willing to pay for that content. You now have 4 partners more than any other conference. Now, it's important to expand in order to keep all 4 interested moving forward & build towards the next deal. They can't become complacent and do nothing or the Big12 is going to be left behind. Its a good thing we have basketball or we would be on verge of becoming irrelevant. The football season has been disastrous. We need a strong showing in basketball where the Big12 can flex its muscle & bring in Uconn in order to continue to do that moving forward. That would help the Big12 corner all the top basketball players in the country, much like the SEC does in football.
You need to face some realities. The BIG12 signed its current deal after a peak basketball run which brought it to #2 at best. It is already showing signs of waning. In basketball, it's far easier to build a good team than it is to stay on top as a program. It should now be clear to everyone that UCONN will only join the BIG12 if all sports are included, and the BIG12 isn't interested in all of UCONN's sports. Relative to men's basketball, I would advise that the BIG12's goals should be to remain better than the B1G and at least stay within peer of a likely future improved SEC and the ACC/BIGEAST.
If Brown has an ounce of dignity, he'd resign today.
That would be dumb. He’d be walking away from over $7 million.
Hey Couz, got a possible discussion question. Since joining the Big 12, WVU is 70-70. (Includes current season). Is it possible that our expectations as WVU fans might be a little high? We haven’t competed for a conference title since 2011 and that was a shared title.
That’s a fair question. I don’t think so. If Iowa State and Kansas State can win, I don’t see why WVU can’t.
I agree. But 70-70 since joining the Big12. Joining the Big12 has been a contributing factor to where WVU is at this point. Travel expenses are enormous.
This can’t hurt.
I think that more exposure and tv money does help with Big 12 money sharing.
It’s no different than the CW-ACC deal. It’s games that would normally go on streaming being moved to TNT. I don’t mind the move, other than there is games also moved to MAX. And, end the end: the Big 12 will not get more money from it.
No more money now. Maybe down the road.
I think separation between football and basketball contracts will increase the value by possible 2 fold by bringing in more networks into the mix. He can turn it more and more into NBA like atmosphere in a few years since we have the best teams and matchups in the country. I would definitely bring UConn and Zags if he has that separation.
a) The other conferences would also us split the 2 revenue sports. b) UCONN and GONZ won't join unless for all sports, and GONZ has already committed to the new PAC.
BIG12 fans way overrate and overvalue BIG12 basketball. Measured by top-level success (NCAAT), it's been #3 even after a peak run over the past ~10 years. There's a reason why there's a new ACC/SEC challenge rather than a continued BIG12/SEC challenge. If I read and remember correctly something I recently scanned while looking for something else, KANSAS, KY, DUKE and UNC account for ~60% of all viewers for men's college basketball.
ESPN + SUCKS DIRT!
Espn + is the death to a program’s relevance.
I had to tape the Baylor game BUT instead of bieng frustrated and to keep me from throwing my shoe at the tv. I checked the score and then just deleted the game. So i didnt watch it and get sick on the stomach and have to watch us get out coached Again!!
Probably the smart move.
The only thing that will help the Big 12 is start WINNING and stop getting beat by 40 in the playoffs!
1 game per week in football. Is it a tier three type deal where they get to pick a game after ESPN and Fox get the first choices?
Yes.
@ the exposure is great. It opens possible future opportunities
If the schools don't get more money a yr it only means ONE Big 12 team will keep getting blown out in the playoffs cause we can't afford top players. We need to take money from the football team and give it to the bball team and start winning champs cause we will never be able to compete with the top money teams. The days of the underdog in college football is over!
Couz I love your show, but It's only 1 game a week and no more money.
It’s a long term play though. Setting the league up for the 2031 deal
Too much credit to Yormark. He was a bystander to a Disney/WBD dispute, No doubt, the resolution greatly benefits the B12 but giving Yormark credit for the deal’s big picture engineering is an over-reach. “Hey Bret, how about we move some of your games from streaming to linear?” Bret’s participation was to simply say “yes.”
The exposure is great. Wonder if it brings more money.
Maybe long term.
Help me understand the bigger picture here. Since ESPN is just re-selling rights it already has, I don't see any revenue difference to the BIG12 under the current arrangement. I do see this as an improvement in exposure. Since there was change, the BIG12 still had to approve. ESPN is clearing room on its sub-channels for other preferred content. This feels a bit like the ACC's Tier 3 content on The CW.
There won’t be additional money now. The hope is that long term it will lead to more come the new contract in 2031.
@@CouzsCornerSports Again, I agree that this appears to be an upgrade for BIG12 exposure, but ESPN is also clearly offloading unwanted BIG12 content and related broadcast obligations. The CW just took over Raycom's existing rights. ESPN is getting some NBA related content, but is most likely clearing room for content from a renewed contract with an expanded ACC. ESPN may also think that streaming revenue from SEC content is more reliable than from the BIG12.
Actually the games that are going to TNT/Warner Brothers are games that would've been aired on ESPN+. ESPN nor Fox is losing content. Which is the bigger exposure. That puts the Big 12 on 4 networks and games would've been on ESPN+ now have national network coverage. The deal doesn't have to actually bring in more money now. The added exposure means the Big q2 can get better marketing deals outside of tv deals. Plus... the next tv contract can have more networks interested in the deal. The Big 12 leadership thinks long-term. Not just for today.
@@lorenzohaynes3886 When I reference ESPN, I'm including all sub-channels. Something like this doesn't happen unless it's seen as a win, win, win. The BIG12 gets better exposure. ESPN unloads some unwanted BIG12 content to make room for others content. TNT gets some wanted live sports.
This will help the big 12 without a doubt.
@scottybthebaylorking6736 How?? 1 game a week and no money is with it.And you don't get ratings on ESPN why think you'll get it on TNT.ESPN sub leased you out for pay.Nothing to see here.
Well, now the key is to fix our NIL, coaching, and portal. Our roster is really shaky for 2025.
Yep. Losing quite a few guys.
Stop saying NB is a nice guy but…… Bobby Knight was a monster but beloved as a coach. Because he won.
How much will the BIG12 receive?
Same they are now. This is just ESPN sublicensing some of the games to WBD. It could help them get more money on a future deal. It will help with exposure though, which can help the league from a marketing standpoint.
Zero
I can no longer tolerate opening up an article about the team. It’s 98% negative. It sickens me.
Isn't the buyout 7.3 million if fired January 1st hell use that 4 million dollars they are gonna make off the Virginia series as part of the buyout
That’s a fair point, but that money won’t be there until after the games are played.
@CouzsCornerSports Would be like a future loan
WE NEED A NEW AD NOW . MOST COLLEGES SPORTS PROGRAMS WOULD OF NEVER PUT UP WITH NEIL BROWN AFTER 5 YEARS . SHOULD OF NEVER GAVE HIM AN EXTENSION LAST YEAR. 9-4 IS NOT THAT GREAT OF A YEAR FOR MOST PROGRAMS . THAT WOULD OF BEEN A DOWN YEAR UNDER THE PAT WHITE YEARS ..
Wren isn’t the problem in my opinion. He inherited the mess and after a 9 win season, what was he supposed to do?
Bengals and Wvu are the most disappointing teams in college and nfl . Both had high expectations . Both needs real coaches. New AD/ New owner . JOE BURROW has MVP numbers along with chase . Their kicker missed 2 more late field goals that would of sealed that game. He missed a chip shot in OT against Baltimore. We had the Chiefs beat in AAROW HEAD 4th and 20. Threw it over his head . They threw a late flag . 7 secounds after the play lost 26-25. Had Baltimore down 2 touch downs- with a first and 10. Fumbled the ball collapsed . Then came back. Was going for a 2 point play and the win. They clearly hit burrow in the face + defense grabbed chase no flag another loss. Being a WVU / BENGAL fan is too much . Done watching sports this year until both teams make some serious management changes. Bengals could easily be 8-3 right now. WVU could be 6-4 . Both defenses are down right terrible . If brown dosnt start Nicco thr final 2 games . Word has it he's transferring . Can't blame the kid . No body likes playing for Neil brown . Has one of the highest transfer portal of his players in the country
As a UCF fan I didn't know we were bringing the ratings down. Time to fire Gus and beg Deion to coach in his home state.
You won’t be for long. UCF is a fast growing program.
TV numbers will nosedive until something changes…
Apologies Couz but I am out on WVU FB until complete change from very top. NB has shown disrespect for fans for many weeks. You get that attitude from your boss. Neither were WVU fans before coming here, and neither will be after they leave. If the octogenarian was any type of a leader he'd retire early, and let a new President whos a WVU fan review and resolve. So again, apologies but I am out, and for also no longer watching your excellent podcast or any of the other guys.. And don't blame NB, blame his boss who put us here.
When Deion Sanders leaves after this season. Colorado will be the bottom feeder of the Big 12.
Maybe.
Na. We have a pretty good lock for the last 10 years on that spot and will continue under BROWN or JIMBO.
As one of the fans no I am not watching WVU havent been same old same old, lot's of others I talk to IRL which is a large pool of people feel the same way. Something needs to change ASAP. Jimbo would work IMO
Very interesting video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Couz you are missing out of an opportunity to make some money. Have some WVU paper bag mask made up and sell them from your on line shop. Fans can wear them to the game!!!! Never let a crissis go to waste!!!! LOL!!!!
Haha! 🤣
Coach Neal Brown is a nice person but he is out of his league. He should go coach high school or D3 college football. All of the staff needs to go. The strength and conditioning needs to also go. WVU players always seems to be out of breath and out of shape compared to the teams they play against.
And why would any recruit come to WVU unless that’s is the best or only offer he has? Gee killed academics and sports.
WVU is a consistent 7-8 win team per season. Every now and then they will win 10 games but it's not consistent, maybe once every 4-5 seasons
Neal has only won at least 7 once in 5 years and it’s looking like it’ll be 6.
Not with Neal Brown as coach. He is 36-34 overall. Best season was 9 wins. More like a 5 or 6 wins per year coach. Terrible record (3-17) against ranked opponents.
It’s a shame. We’ve always been a respectable program. Hell, we’re 13th all time in wins.
16th now
@ dammit lol
Would have been interesting to overlay WVU views with average of the rest of the Big 12. I thought that was where you were heading.
That’s a future video.
@ good to hear
But did you have fun tailgating though?
I did. 🤣
Albany game didn't help WVU on the TV numbers. I would have put Marshall or some other G4 school regional in that spot.
Think OhiomU and Bobby Moe going to do anything for TV ratings. Hell might not show the games. The printer league B12 is hardly watched now by anyone outside the B12 with Tx and OK gone. Cincy, BYU, Houston and UCF just not the same.
Can we just bring back Tony Gibson? I wanted him as coach for years.
Fire Neal Brown!
This coach cannot handle the pressure. Temple about to fire their coach. There is no excuse Neal should stick around. If temple can make a late season change, so can WVU. I don't want to make a bowl game bc some might think Neal should stick around if we finish .500
Yep ratings are definitely going down and I don't feel the need to finish a lot of the games I'm a DVR and decide not to watch it all I really don't have any enthusiasm for this team at all I can only compare it to the pro team that I used to follow in Washington and how bad it was for so long except it feels worse at WVU
I just took a Saturday job. I've seen enough. Not buying anything WVU until they start to invest in the fans. Stop with the fcs football hires. Get an sec coach in here, or I'm done. Not Jimbo.
In 2008 WVU vs Louisville on a Thursday night on ESPN did just short of 5 million! That's how far the program has fallen.
5 million is a great number. WVU has posted top of Big 12 numbers despite not being ranked. The brand is strong. There’s reason for optimism imo.
@@wildute6958 It was strong, not anymore.
Yes. It has been impacting all facets of the tv, ticket sales, and recruiting. It's a trickle down problem that is making WVU a not so great prodcut to sell. I've beem saying this for a couple years. Even a scarier situation, it puts WVU further down on the list for expansion desirability. Brown has done major harm. He should have been fired 2022. His buyout should have been negotiated. WVUs issues aren't just coaching, they include administration.
Not according tom the fan boy Brown fans. he needs more time. Wait till next year with a weak schedule with Bobby Moe and Ohio U he might win. The fanboy club will be saying he has arrived and want a contract extension. Still has not beat a team with a winning record. Might beat UCF this weekend and all will be well with FANBOY Club.
Sure that are we suck
TV numbers will continue to drop or at best stagnate as long as Neal Brown remains at the helm of the WVU football program. As the graph indicated when WVU plays at an even remotely quality fashion our fans tune-in to watch with numbers and passion. However there's only so much humiliation any fanbase can take and be expected to still tune-in and watch the games. Just one fans two cents worth and love the show brother Couz! 🎥🎬❤
Not worth wasting couple hours just to be disappointed week after week and/or spending money to go to the game.
@@djmih13 only thing the WV ADM understands is LOST MONEY. They don;t care what then fans think about them or Brown. If they stop going to the games and spending money that will eventually get the message. Not being on TV really hurts the financial stream .
if we win 1 of the final 2 games we go to a bowl and brown comes back
Fire Brown and rehire Rodriguez if money is the issue. Rodriguez would have to come back at a large discount. Imagine Rodriguez with Greene and Marciol thr past 2 seasons plus White and Donaldson. The team would have competed in the Big 12 and likely would have dominated last season's much easier schedule. .
Hopefully we lose
