มุมมอง 4.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Today we hike 14 miles, mostly beside Loch Lomond. The trail diverges into two paths, the high way and the low way which are referenced in a popular song: “you take the high way and I’ll take the low way, and I’ll be to Scotland afore ye”. Ryan and I took the low way while others took the high way. We end at Beinglas Farms for camping. Music: Stars by Vlad Gluschenko soundcloud.com/vgl9 Creativ...

Thank you for sharing your WHW adventure. It was a great inspiraton to walk it by myself last year and this year the Rob Roy Way. The Scottish Highlands are amazing.
In the time it was named , it was for the troops taking a shortcut over the hills 17 60's time in history.
Town = Rowerdenan Hotel !!
Can you tell me what model of tent you were using. , thanks
Hey, that tent is a REI quarter dome 3. Got it back in 2019 and it has since been discontinued. We now have a Big Agnes Copper Spur UL3. Which is similar
Scottish trails follow historic routes used for cattle droving, raids or along old military roads. That means glens, passes and bealachs. People take the path of least resistance and wouldnt have travelled the ridges and mountain tops. There is one challenge where you can set your own route and followbthe tops - The TGO challenge. A good resources is the website Scotways which lists all the heritage paths in Scotland. Lots of these aren't part of the waymarked trail network but may be part of the Cape Wrath trsil or the Scottish national trail. Some examples would be the thieves road from Fort William to Dalwhinnie or Comyns road to Blair Atholl. Scotland is blessed with these trails and the access code allowing is to access them and to camp.
Kinlochleven was thenfirst town in the world to have every connected to electricity. Those massive pipes are for the hydro elecrric from the dam. The village was set up for an aluminium smelter.
Eggs in Europe arent washed like in the states so dont need refrigerated. Eggs have a natural cuticle to protect them. Washing them in detergent removes that. Maybe try and keep Salmonella out of the food chain so they don't need washed? Irn bru is a great hangover cure. Outsells coke in Scotland.
Well done on the pronunciation of Drymen. It usually gets butchered. Did you attempt the pronunciation of Milngavie? Did you regret the mainly flat for the first three days bit? The gnarly ups and downs on Loch Lomondside are where most people give up. I guess I'll have to keep watching your proper walk ( the only way to do it).
Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed every episode. Very inspiring!
Wondering what village it was where you had the "toasty"?
Hey! St. Mocha's coffee shop in Balmaha right after Conic hill
Am from England, and doing west highland way in April, am loving your videos and it’s SO lovely you tuck time out to help a lady who had a fall , you both are beautiful people X Robert
Thank you Robert! Enjoy your walk in April, we will be back in May! One of our favorite trips we have done for sure
👏👏👏
That climb at the beginning of that final day was a challenge but when you get to the top, the views and the landscape made it one of my favourite sections.
Did you guys meet catriona and her mum at the Macdonald hotel? Great place for venison burger.
No we didn’t have the opportunity to meet them! Do they run the hotel? We will be returning in 2024 so we may have the opportunity!
Really enjoyed all episodes guys, best WHW vlog on TH-cam 👍🏻
Thanks so much!!!
Loved this series! Well done👏 it is one of the best live guides to the WHW. I am the AT class of 86 I hiked it for my 21st and going to hike the WHW for my 60th! I’m fromPA DWG so always backpacking. You should do a workshop at the Gathering in Shippensburg PA next year🙏 I love that you used AT terms on the WHW. Thank you so much for this informational series. TnT Trail on!🥾🇺🇸🏴
Thanks so much Tracey! My parents hiked the AT in 85 and are also planning to hike the WHW next year! Possibly see you on trail 😎
@@NickyandRyanontheAT Rambling Rise and Sour dough Bob?What we’re your parents trail names? Hope to see you on the trail.:)
@@traceylasslett5514We never picked up trail names but we did meet Rambling Rose and Sourdough Bob when we hiked in 85
You awesome guys👏🏻 , I will go back and put some likes 👍🏼 I was lazy to initiate.. apologise 🙏🏼

Is it a common thing on a trail to snob people for their gear? Like the trendy UL stuff. It’s generally garbage, right? Not fit for a lifetime of use? Of limited practical use while it’s still within its short lifespan? And soon to be in a landfill or the ocean? That’s not virtuous. And can we assume the weight of other people packs based on size alone? Must we then value-judge them for the presumed weight of their stuff? It’s snobbery, frankly. Trim that back a bit and everyone can have a nice time. If that’s ok with you.
Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today
Scotsman here, firstly fantastic video. The English guy gave you wrong info. Loch Ness contains more volume of water than all the lochs in England & Wales combined, its not deeper than all of them combined. Also the deepest part of Loch Ness is about 230m. Ben Nevis is over 1300m.
Thank you!! Ah okay that makes a bit more sense! 😅😅
I really enjoyed watching you guys walking thanks for sharing it's given me confidence for when i go in August, was doubting i could do it at 66 with a average level of fitness but feel more confident now bless you both ❤
So happy you enjoyed the videos! You got this! We will be back in 2024 taking it slower with Nicky’s parents who are 72! Definitely a walk that the whole family can enjoy 😊
I did it this summer, 2023, aged 74, and on my own. I didn’t like the Loch Lomond stretch but those final days were brilliant.
Thanks for the great Videos. Absolute perfect......
Just watching your fantastic videos of the WHW. I will be doing the same walk this coming August/September. I am wondering what equipment you ued for the filming?
You are gonna love the WHW. We used the go pro hero 10 for these videos
Hi, Great video! In which month did you do the trip?, We are planning to go in september and hoping the midges are already gone. Is it necessary to book every camping place in advance?
Hello!! Hope your trip went well! Sorry we didn’t reply before you left on your way!
I really enjoyed your journey on the West Highland Way, how about Wainwright’s Coast to Coast across northern England on your next UK visit ? taking in 3 national parks including the Lake District.
That sounds like a blast we will definitely look into it!!
Fantastic trip for you.
I've done a fell running comedy, Jam Butty Boy is the Reluctant Fell Runner. Had him going up a steep gully and he called it the Devil's Staircase. Didn't know it really was a thing! Suppose it's inevitable. Best wishes.
Hey You Two! I absolutely loved the hike vlog. Please do more. I completed the latter half of the hike back in september and plan to do the whole 9 yards in the not too distant future!!! (all the best. Martin)
Thank you so much! We are getting excited to return to the WHW in 2024!
Great wee series of vids, thanks for sharing! love the west highland way, think I'll do it again this year, would be silly not to only stay 20 miles from the start! btw, failte means welcome in gaelic, you pronounce it FAHL-CHA. If youse ever have the urge to return, google the Cape Wrath trail, more remote and quite a bit more serious of an undertaking, probably more inline with your long distance trails in America or Canada(though no where near as long mind, still only 200 miles). Need proper navigation and plan food though, starts in Fort William and goes to the north west corner.
Thanks for the tip! We'll check it out 😁
What dates did you do it over?
Hi we did it May 23-29!
It's sutch a small country with such a big land
When you're in Scotland you can breth
Call it American hill
I mean loch lomand
It's not that bad the devil's staircase I loch Londoners the most tired think
You need to take much more food you will eat much more believe me if you're on a diet it's not for you believe me Neil from Scotland
Well done there much more for up to sea hast yes back neil
Yes I'm from Scotland I've done it many times chin up it's not that easy if you have had weather it can be a high mate doo seldom hast you back
Your hike never gets old (to me). I've watched your entire hike (videos) twice and now from time to time I watch a section. Congratulations!!! I saw the proposal on Katahdin so I assume you both are married by now. I'm 72 and still plugging away. Finished Springer to Kent in 13 hikes. God Bless!
Thanks so much Dave! Glad you are still out hiking, we plan to continue hiking for as long as we can! Happy you’ve enjoyed the videos! We will sometimes watch as well so we can remember the fun times! Makes us want to plan our next trip!
I wondered what that stretch looked like. The mist had come down while I walked here and didn’t see Loch Lomond until I got to Balmaha. Nice video. Thank you.
Give this guy a medal. No way I thought he would stay with this chick this long. Thought I would check in. Good job Ryan. Much respect
So far your pronunciations have been great. As for the snacks..... Nobody told you about Soreen Loaf, a tasty and carb filled malt loaf that we have here in the UK. I haven't watched the other videos so who knows, maybe you'll discover it along the way, if not then stock up on your next UK trail. Great videos guys, the WHW is still my favourite trail and I hike it whenever I can.
Thanks so much! We are coming back in 2024 and need to try the Soreen Loaf next time! Trying the UK snacks was one of our favorite parts about hiking in a different country 😅
Thanks for the video. Especially for showing the way to the GlenGoyne distillery :D ;-) And beside this, thanks for all the other details! Very informative.
I'll never forget how good it felt arriving at Beinglas Farm after a 24-mile second day on this hike. The final two miles it was dark and I was beginning to get seriously worried, not to mention exhausted, and I only managed to push through thanks to the adrenaline. Unfortunately, this wonderful and strategically placed campsite has now closed for good. An irreplaceable loss to the WHW.
Beinglas campsite is not closed for good. It opens for the season on 1st April
@@kirsteneasdale5707 Thanks for that. Yes, since writing this post it appears that the campsite is under new ownership. The old owners were quite ambiguous about its future. I'm very happy it will still be around.
I plan on hiking the West Highland Way next season in late April. Really need to say that your videos were the best I’ve watched so far showing the trail. Very good job showing the trail…
Thank you!
How many kilos were your backpacks?
Hi! Ryan’s pack 9.5 kg+ food and water Nicky’s is 6.7 kg+ food and water
@@NickyandRyanontheAT that's excellent! We are hoping to reduce our weight, so you have a kit list on lighterpacks or a video? Much appreciated.
The best WIFI. LOL.
You two are so cute!
So HAPPY to see you two back hiking, and on one of my favorite walks!
Thanks so much!!
Hey guys great video! I am an American living in Scotland for 4 years now. I currently work with the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park as a volunteer ranger. I usually work at Milarochy Bay. Sorry I missed you when you came through. I have hiked the West Highland twice I love it.
Oh that’s is so awesome! We will be coming back around in 2024 with nicky’s parents, possibly see you then!
