  • Today is our first day on the West Highland Way! We leave Milngavie and hike to Dryman campsite. We stop at Glengoyne distillery right by the trail for some Scotch tasting!

    The music used brings back such great memories. I’ve followed several AT hikers since yours, but yours is still my favorite!

    I really enjoyed following you on the AT two years ago as an engaging, charming, and positive hiking team.. That was an epic adventure. Looking forward to a vicarious view of of this hike along the West Highland Way. Hope to see Nicky's signature sunglasses along the Way - assuming, of course, sunshine in Scotland.at some point.

      Thank you for following along! My sunglasses got very scratched on the AT so I have a different pair that are prescription on this hike! I did love those sunglasses tho!

    I am from Scotland and I absolutely loved watching all of your AT journey and I’m so excited to watch your west highland way videos too! I also feel like I’m kicking myself because I was Drymen campsite on Friday so I feel like I missed a narrow encounter with a celebrity since you must have been a day or so behind! 😂 You have totally lucked out as the weather has been amazing so far and the midgies pretty minimal, so hope you have a fab time!

    Well done on the pronunciation of Drymen. It usually gets butchered. Did you attempt the pronunciation of Milngavie?
    Did you regret the mainly flat for the first three days bit? The gnarly ups and downs on Loch Lomondside are where most people give up. I guess I'll have to keep watching your proper walk ( the only way to do it).

    I am planning to go to and DO WHW..
    Small question: what did you wear? Trail shoes? Or boots?
    And what do you recommend to wear for WHW?

    • @NickyandRyanontheAT
      @NickyandRyanontheAT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We both wore trail runner shoes which seemed fine! Ryan wears Ulta Olympus 4 and Nicky wears Solomon’s. And we recommend a rain coat and a puffy for almost any backpacking trip including this one! Let us know if you want any other specific recommendations!

    In which month did you do the trip?,
    We are planning to go in september and hoping the midges are already gone.
    Is it necessary to book every camping place in advance?

    Is it a common thing on a trail to snob people for their gear? Like the trendy UL stuff. It’s generally garbage, right? Not fit for a lifetime of use? Of limited practical use while it’s still within its short lifespan? And soon to be in a landfill or the ocean? That’s not virtuous. And can we assume the weight of other people packs based on size alone? Must we then value-judge them for the presumed weight of their stuff? It’s snobbery, frankly. Trim that back a bit and everyone can have a nice time. If that’s ok with you.
