Voice Over Trail Reviews
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 13 เม.ย. 2017
Based out of the Portland, OR area in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, whenever I ride a new trail, I bring along my GoPro and when I get back home I write a review. One of the obstacles I faced when I started mountain biking was deciding whether or not it was worth making the commitment to drive to a trail system without knowing ahead of time what the trails were going to be like. This channel is an attempt to solve that problem for the Pacific Northwest. Every now and then I get out of the Cascadia region, but this biome is my primary focus.

Pinnacle Saddle Was Amazing. Pinnacle peak was terrifying.
มุมมอง 472วันที่ผ่านมา
Recently, I attempted to summit Pinnacle Peak, which is one of the mountains just South of Mt. Rainier. It was terrifying and I didn't like it. The hike up to the saddle is fantastic, but the Tatoosh Traverse on the South aspects is not for me. #sota #mtrainier #tatooshtraverse #washingtontrails

Gravel Biking Summits in the Gifford Pinchot
มุมมอง 6205 หลายเดือนก่อน
I've been biking on some of the gravel in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest while carrying my portable ham radio transceiver with me, with a focus on accessing some of its many summits for the purpose of "activating" them for Summits on the Air. Since so many of the roads in the Gifford Pinchot are overgrown or rutted out, a bicycle is often one of the best modes of travel to "connect the dot...

This canonical ride should be your first epic if you've never ridden an epic before. It's the perfect introduction to longer loop rides and the payoff in views makes it worthwhile. Located just outside of Wenatchee, Washington, the trail is located just past the town of Cashmere.

www.patreon.com/voiceovertrails Located in North Bend, Washington, just outside the Seattle area, Tiger Mountain is the trail system you wish you had in your backyard. If it is in your backyard, you're lucky and you should be riding it because it's awesome. This is my first ride down Atlas and I really liked it. None of the other trails were new to me, but they were totally worth riding again.
Biking Trillium Lake and Eureka Peak
มุมมอง 591ปีที่แล้ว
www.patreon.com/voiceovertrails Located just outside of Government Camp, Oregon, Trillium Lake is a popular cross country skiing and paddle boarding destination. Eureka peak is one of the mountains that stands sentinel over Trillium lake and if you bushwhack to the top of it you can enjoy not seeing anything because it's forested. I used it to get points for Summits on the Air.

I hiked Rainier in the winter of last year. I didn't approach the mountain at the angle I intended, and the snow was bad, but I learned.
My favorite SOTA experience to date. You did a great job of pushing yourself and knowing your limits. The juice was definitely worth the squeeze. (:
It was a fun one! Thanks for being my climbing coach. I definitely wouldn't have made it as far up as I did without your guidance!
The party boat area is called “the pig pen”, and boats raft up together sometimes 10 or more, and most anything goes.
That just makes me love it even more. It's great to see the different ways people use their local environment to have fun!
Damn bro that looks freaky. Nice work and getting out of the comfort zone.
I like your videos but maybe more views of what’s around you and less shots of just ppls feet and tips of skis while walking
Turns out I accidentally had the GoPro set on "Linear" instead of Superview. I debated whether to even make this video after seeing that but went ahead anyway because something is better than nothing.
If you don’t live here, and are not from here. Yeah, your opinion doesn’t matter. Respectfully.
Welcome back! So how would you compare this to, ya know, those certain unmentionable double black trails which we definitely wouldn't have the bad taste to name? Barring that, how about say, Predator or Double Black Double Down? Or an actual sanctioned trail expert trail in BC? Too bad to hear Skyline is so beatup.
I would say that it compares rather favorably to all of those other trails. It definitely didn't feel like it had as many mandatory features DBDD.
Any plans to climb in winter 2025? Looking for a company
Yes, I plan to climb it. I'll be watching for weather windows and probably look to do it sometime between mid January and the end of February.
I guessed at a broken wrist for the drumming excuse.
Close enough. I was actually playing at a rehearsal when the doctor called with the X-ray results telling me I had broken my collar bone.
@@VoiceOverTrailReviews Thats wild. How did they not catch the broken collar bone at the ER?
@ The better question is “How did I go two days with a broken collar bone without seeing a doctor?” I went to bed that night, hoping the pain would subside, then went to work, then went to a GP who convinced me to go in for an X-Ray. It was the orthopedist who called me 4 hours after the X-Ray (during band rehearsal) to tell me I had an aligned distal break on my collar bone to which I asked “Does that mean I shouldn’t be playing drums right now?”
@@VoiceOverTrailReviews Yikes. I broke my collarbone back in 2007. It was immediately like "yep, I'm done. No Bueno. Not having fun for a while. Going to the hospital RIGHT NOW.
Its back!!!
I'm trying....
Nice Video 😂😂 funny
Thank You! It's still hanging on my wall.
I ran into snow near the top of Ranger Creek one time turning it into an out and back. Brutal.
Oh, that's awful. Yeesh!
I have bad memories of hiking that trail out of Cultus Creek campground up that hill. Sometime between the mid-80's and the late 90's, the trail that exists now was rerouted from the original path which-- I know this is hard to believe-- was even steeper.
After the trails I’ve experienced elsewhere in the Gifford Pinchot, it doesn’t surprise me at all that it used to be steeper. There’s some genuinely crazy stuff in that forest!
Rode my Beta Evo300 trials motorcycle on this trail yesterday but went backwards from the OP's original route (up from the campground) and I can assure you the trail had gotten much worse in the last 3 years from the original video. It was not for the faint of heart when I rode up and across that large rock face the the OP had to portage his bike around. The root sections on this trail are the worse I have every encountered on a PNW trail and I don't believe I could have done it on one of my enduro motorcycles. I rode the same route 17 years ago and survived a brain tumor that I discovered later that same day so yesterday was my homecoming ride. If you are riding this loop on a bike my hat is off to you as there are much better places to beat the crap out of yourselves and your equipment here in the PNW.
Thanks for the report and I'm glad you survived the brain tumor! What a homecoming!
This monument is called "Agora" by Polish sculptor and has nothing to do with American-African history!
Nice job. Chicago also has a couple hundred miles of trails in the forest preserves that are all accessible by Metra train. I would rate Chicago almost up there with Minneapolis and perhaps Portland for both leisure and commuter biking. It doesn’t get the recognition that it deserves.
Good info! I'd agree that Chicago does not get the recognition it deserves.
I hate this trail. Never again, i imagined that if someone would do that with an heavy ebike the person would be screwed going down palisades. Its still a good memory :) we climbed ranger up and the other one down but way too late :)
Yeah, I'll never descend this again.
You should come to klootchie creek in Seaside Oregon, you won’t be disappointed
It's on the list!
Geez. Let me build you an eBike. You will like that road much better. I was up there last year. A ranger told me they are fixing up the tower in order to rent it out.
That'll be awesome if they rent it out!
Our first time in the gorge this past weekend. We drove past this after visiting hood river and I was wondering about it - glad we didn't do it. We did the Wahkeena loop since we were staying near there and that was a great hike with some great waterfalls and views.
You made the right decision. Wahkeena is a much more pleasant and rewarding hike.
Thanks for the video awesome video! I backpacked this trail this weekend and saw bike tracks. I don’t know how you do it! As you said over and over lots of exposure. Because I was just there, I did want to add that there is a reliable spring (for water) about 13 miles in from the Marble Pass side-so pretty close to the middle.
We manage because we're too dumb to know any better. Good to know there's a spring in there somewhere! Thanks for the info!
Climbing from Marble Mountain SnoPark the distance is six miles to the summit with 5700 feet of elevation gain.
Oh yeah, I didn't think to include the mileage.
Saw a wolf up there near the S Gunsight TH last October.
Awesome!
Wenatchee is great for an in-state ride, and I go there frequently for day trips. Since I have to travel, I prefer to take my camper, and Bend has free camping next to the trail network. Wish Wenatchee did.
Wenatchee has pretty nice (albeit not free) camping at Confluence State Park. Also at Squilchuck state park; up near Mission Ridge, mostly lame xc riding. One could boondock camp up variously classic hillbilly spots up around the saddle above #2 canyon riding area. Lots of other dirtbag camping and " off the grid" rides in the valley as well. Also, FWIW you could ride whatever around Wenatchee, go park your rig at your Confluence campsite and pedal maybe 1.5 miles into town on a flat bike path, get schnockered at a brewery and pedal back to camp.
Glad I spent 20 minutes watching this. Your commentary is honest and enjoyable to listen to. As someone who grew up somewhere else, I was very happy to discover how bikeable most of Chicagoland is. As someone else mentioned we have plenty of hilly singletrack outside the city. No mountains but enough to get your heart rate up. Chicago in the spring, summer and fall might be the best city of them all. Winter, oooof no... But if the singletrack is frozen solid, it's bearable.
I looooove riding frozen single track!
You did an excellent job summarizing Chicago’s lakefront.
Thank You! 😊
Rode this for the first time over the weekend and climbed to the top on the gravel road. Definitely a tough climb, but I think it was worth it. Really fun trail, narrow single track with some super fun sections.
That's a big road climb!
@@VoiceOverTrailReviewsit is, but I think the road climb to the two towers from the bottom lot at cold creek is worse. I’ve done that countless times.
@@RobGams I do that climb all the time! Now you’ve got me thinking I should just go ahead and pedal up Nestor peak…
Voice Over...your negative attitude obviously must result from something in your personal life. Not getting enough?
Thanks for the engagement!
Bend has fun stuff to do...food/breweries.
Palisades has the gnarliest root section before the stairs
So Good!
Gopros have improved a lot since you made this video
OMG, they sure have! I actually did this video with a cheap knockoff action camera. But even genuine GoPros were not that much better back then!
The place where the "party boats" were located is called The Playpen. The boats line up next to each other people party and jump from boat to boat.
That’s awesome.
Do a video of yourself doing maintenance on this trail. Maybe a video of you restoring one of the bridges. That would be nice.
WTA has mostly taken over maintenance on this and they're doing a really good job! I'm focused on other parts of the hill.
I've done that loop on the moto many times. Red hill had an insane near vertical 200' drop that is quite intimidating but doable.
Do the motos typically ride it clockwise? I’d assume y’all are in it for the hill climbs going up Mission…
The Playboy mansion was a few blocks from Oak St Beach. In the 80-90's it was THE place to see attractive people FYI
Great video! Loved the map, but please point out that you stopped halfway north on the bike path. It goes for miles! Come visit and try it!
I thought I mentioned that… I’ll have to come back some time and ride the rest of it. I also want to try the jetski rental.
That was way more interesting then I though it would be
Thanks! 😊
Came for the biking, stayed for the SOTA.
Epic my friend! 🫡🫡
This trail sucks. Not worth the climb
I think it kinda depends on the type of ride you're looking for. For the type of person who loves DBDD, the rest of Chuckanut would be kind of an annoying let down. I definitely love me a slow and technical trail.
Probably because there's better food/night life in Bend. It's got big city flavor in a small town.
Try #barebones…up hills creek lake- a former fire trail and a secret, of we…#locals. #oror
Are you sure you should be telling me the goods on local secrets? 😉 I actually have a strict personal policy of never reviewing unofficial trails.
I’m local. They should have called it #ridgeline. Oh, I just suffered a grade4 A/C tear at 56!
Well, that sucks about your knee! Lame! I agree, though, Ridgeline would be a more appropriate name. There is no alpine terrain on this trail or anywhere near it.
@@VoiceOverTrailReviews a/c tear- in shoulder- clavicle is up, and towards my back, causing much distress there, and the compensatory areas, elsewhere- hope my off-shore accounts don’t feel a snag- it’s all connected, right?! Nice review, thanks! Upper Mission Ridge is also a fun descent, with a different character over some rock screes.
I'll have to try the top next time I'm in Wenatchee.
Go to where ever that is. Bend sucks
Ah ha....I see you're tracking with what I'm trying to do....
My favorite way to ride is to ride up the dirt road at the 214 trailhead and ride down the catamount. The logging on the road has opened up sections with amazing views, and the climbing is very mellow. If you’re craving a longer ride, there are sections of catamount that you can loop, or loop the whole thing. This trail is probably my favorite place to ride within a decent drive from south of Portland
If I was on the South side of Portland this area would definitely be on my frequent ride list.
Wenatchee is way better
It's definitely more of a legit town with more industry than just tourism, and I think that's one of the things that makes it better. That said, Bend is a lot closer to me, so....
Right... Snowshoers!
Awesome video love the commentary!
Sandstone, not granite. Sorry, I can't help but correct this.
