Reopening a 2000 year old trade route. (Work party on the Klickitat Sisters Trail)

The Klickitat Sisters Trail, not to be confused with the Klickitat trail that starts in Lyle, is a remnant 2000 year old trade route that connected Native American tribes living on the East side of the Cascades to those living in the Cowlitz Valley.
On this weekend, I joined Gabe Tiller from the Orogenesis Project to help rehabilitate a section of the Klickitat Sisters Trail as well as scout an abandoned piece of single track called the South Point trail.
I rode this trail in 2019 and it was a brutal hike a bike for most of it. Would be sick to see it fully cleared and no massive snow fields. That section you called “the wall” was part of the sickest descent on the entire trail! Cool to explore something that most people don’t get the chance to ride.

I applaud the effort. But realistically for this trail to stay open for years to come it should be opened to motorized use. Honestly it is the only user group that would invest in clearing it year after year (its just easier for them). It use to be cleared by horse riders but there are far less horse riders these days in that area. 2008 I spent over a week clearing a large section of the trail. But only takes a few years without someone actively clearing it for the trail to become lost again.
Kudos for getting in on the innagural Orogenesis work party. Big FOMO over here.
