Good, but…An Issue.
IZULA II on steroids or is it a nice stand-alone addition to the ESEE line that will be around for a long time? Only time will tell. Here are my thoughts on it.

Have you ever seen something and instantly knew you were going to recreate it? That is how I felt with this knife. Just as in any art form, be it music, sculpture, or painting, ideas are "borrowed" and then adapted. I can see the excitement on your facial expression! The maxamet pm2 does come sharp and the spine is rounder. The jimping on mine is still aggressive. But mine came with the lanyard tube smaller than it should be. Not understanding how that happened. Maybe they used the one for a different model. Been using maxamet for over a year now. Liking the steel so far. Definitely good for cutting abrasive materials. Any thoughts on it now, after a few months of use?

    Good video. All valid points. This knife geometry is for small food prep, it's not a waddling knife. Lately Esee has been dissapointing with some of their new models, instead of building upon amd improving their legendary legacy. This knife and their Kukri being some of the examples. Cheers!

    Tom, good to see your oversized Irish head again! Been a while. That looks like a great little blade. Is it me, or is that kind of similar to the Izula 2 and the 3 modified handle.... Are you really sure you dont want to see more designs from ESEE? I sometimes wonder if they couldn't break a mold or two. Great video. Congrats on the tractor. 👍🏻

    I bought a 110 after losing my 112, it's the finger groove version from 2011 420 HC, not designer steel but pretty good edge holding and easy to sharpen. On that note, that is why Buck use 420hc, as some designer steels you need to be an expert to sharpen it! Liked the video, except when you start to go on about toxic chemicals! That's just plain silly! Do you own a fibreglass boat... Made with chemicals! See what I mean, to relate to a knife handle compared to many other things in life is rediculous, Beware if you drop your ebony handle on a hard floor it's a hard brittle wood and while it might feel nice to hold it's way more likely to cracking than the "Toxic" handled version! Good video but let down by the above....!!!!

    Thanks for another great video Tom. Sincilo was my last knife of 2023 before my 24 resolution for no new knives. Got mine in MAGNACUT. The choil is the issue with that knife, it will bite you with hard use. Extra large hands, if I get into any form of pressing down on the knife I’m nicked a little. I’m always nicked somewhere so I don’t pay it much mind. I sharpened the spine on mine, where it would scrape bark and throw sparks on a fero rod. It’s my motorcycle knife now. I like MAGNACUT a lot, if they ever make a E3 or E4 in MAGNACUT those are gonna be hard to beat. Still hanging tough on my resolution, 7 1/2 months down. Thanks again for the laughs.

    I've sold my 45 year knife collection piece by piece over the last 12 months. I've gotten to a point where I couldn't give a crap about the knife community as all you see is clowns selling old knives for super inflated prices and the same for new knives, the industry has been ruined by ego maniacs. Then you have all the clones on TH-cam doing their little battoning through wood to prove how amazing their knife is and you hardly ever see them use a knife for what it's really intended for. I could go on and on about the cons of the knife community but I don't have a good week to write everything.

    • @knifetimestory
      @knifetimestory 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That is a very poignant and thought-provoking comment. I agree. That is why most of my videos… I would say 98% of them are with me just talking about different aspects of the knife for history or some modifications. I too am very disenchanted by the knife community. I grew up going to knife shows and getting to talk to you all kinds of makers and it was a very special time. Now the Internet even though it has provided a way for me to have a forum to talk about knives, it has in my opinion to a degree ruined The knife community. Too many con artist, copycats, and people with only a modicum of life knowledge professing to be an expert. Quite frankly… I have forgotten more about knives and the history of them than most people will ever know. Mind you, I have been immersed in this since I was 11 and became a member of the Case Collectors Club when it was first introduced.

      The 70s and 80s when hunting for that knife was akin to treasure hunting, looking through magazines and catalogues in an attempt to find that one knife you long for, the adventure you had just to find that one knife. In my case travelling from the country to over 300 kilometres to go to a sports store where you walk in and the owners remember you even after a year or more and the genuine conversations you had back then and the knowledge that was learnt by just shutting your mouth. I agree the net has ruined so much of what we used to be. When you grow up in the bush and use knives on a daily basis, it's hilarious to watch the armchair experts telling me all about knives. Also I have split thousands of logs with an axe and never a knife, that's not what a knife is for. Finding an old knife covered in rust and you get home and give her a good clean up and you feel as though you won the lottery and say to yourself how terrific it is, knowing fully well it's probably only a cheapy but it left a memory and feeling that no new knife could ever fill. Memories of long ago, that sir is the knowledge that is of the most value to me these days. Thanks for the chat old mate. It's much appreciated. All the best from down under.

    • @knifetimestory
      @knifetimestory 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You pose a good question. Also, thank you for the kind words. I appreciate it very much. BPS uses a few different methods of handle attachment. The one on the knife featured in the video is garbage. Cheap rivets that will fail at some point. I personally would not give a kid a Scandi blade. Simply because it is an unusual blade style and sharpening it and learning about sharpening does not really translate well with scandi. I'd go with something with a regular blade like an ESEE 3 in carbon steel. It's a tough knife, lifetime guaranteed, and easy enough to learn different ways of sharpening. If you are dead set on a BPS, (because of the price) I'd go with the BS1FT. $27 and a good size and shape. The handle slabs are bolted on and more reliable. The sheath is nice but takes quite a while to break in and makes extraction and reinsertion of the knife tough for a while. If you want something with a plastic sheath that has no break-in period and is also a great knife...and inexpensive, the Mora Companion is fantastic. Hope that helps.

      You are spot on about the evolution of the Eskabar. I tried the knife and personally do not like it because of the proportions of blade to handle make it awkward for me to use. Just my opinion. And...Pro Tip here. The aftermarket handles you can buy for the Izula and Izula II will NOT fit the Eskabar without some fancy Dremel work to the blade handle or handle slabs.
