  • Are you debating whether the Becker BK2 is still worth it? Watch this video to find out if this knife is still a good investment in 2024!
    After decades of production, is it still the best SHTF knife ever made? Is it...along with the cockroach, the only thing that will be around after the Nuclear Armageddon? Is there anything you can't do with it?

    Absolutely love what you do with those sir. Still haven't tried to emulate it yet, however.

    I have been eyeing the BK2 for a while but I ended up buying a ESEE 5.. For the money I got a kydex sheath and micarta handles. I think it’s a more pointy knife and it comes with the thumb grooves on the spine. 👍🏻

      I also have the ESEE5 on the same desk the BK to sit. I do more shopping than anything else, and I have found the BK2 to be a much better chopper simply because of the handle shape!

    I'm going to be doing a few of these modifications to my ol beater Ontario Falcon I've had for years. Only thing about it is the handle isn't quite long enough for a comfortable grip but I've beaten the knife and it's a thick B***h. I'm going to round the spine add the groves on it and still trying to figure out the handle texture. I've already added g10 handles to it years ago but currently it's to smooth once using it hard. Great video!

      I almost started singing the song after I said that!
      And my knife making days were before Al Gore invented the Internet. So no… There are no videos. And I only have two of my knives in my possession.

    Years ago at the BLADE SHOW at the Becker stand they were pushing that point ..weak point. This was back when they were ending the old stamp. they had a show special of the Escabars bk 14 .. at $15 a piece .( I dropped a years ‘allowance’ there n then lol) . They must’ve had 1000 there.
    But they were showing that by stamping them : the knives were caused to take a one to five degree bend at the stamp… they were putting on the glass counter and you could see it.. now those are small knives… and they may be just a small percentage of rejects or seconds… anyways I just thought I would throw that out there..
    Also, I heard on the blade forums that those black coated Beckers was common to find the blade finish, not as finished as a usual noncoated knife.
    I stripped and polished with my 2x72 and wet sanding paper over ? 4 hours trying to make that bk2 a show piece .. in the end I gave up . But it doesn’t ‘stick’ like it use too. Ha ha

      Excellent comment. Thank you very much for that. I will say this… I always take with a grain of salt with any one of those sales people/booth attendant tells me at a blade show.
      To give you an idea when I went to the last one, Bob Terzuola was at the Spyderco booth. He signed one of my knives with a ceramic rod from the newly introduced triangle sharp maker. 1995.

      Wow how cool getting Bob T . Signature!
      I am a little ‘stupid’ crazy about his cqb knives no matter who made them ( Camillus , Darrell, Ralph or Merico ) .. wasted too much money on blade blanks and proto types too of his CQB s ; funny how one can get obsessive in this hobby.
      But I have a narrow view it’s basically built around Camillus western Becker and Remington. ( I I make a rule not to touch Case or the most other brands - now if I find it in the woods,,,,, )( but I do like watching modifying ( well most anything) ).
      Very much enjoy your wit.
      Keep up the good / great channel !

    So let’s say I never modify a knife, cuz I don’t. Still like the bk2? The Esee 5 has been calling my name, but I’ve been resisting so far. P.S. I like your comment rules. Happy Labor Day.

      Glad you like the rules. Thanks for letting me know.
      If I was gifted with both knives...out of the box I'd want to use the BK2 because it has a higher grind, and better handle for chopping.

    That is not B.S. at all, just google the swiss made axes that had a pressed in logo and particularly the broken ones, they've all broken at the stamp!

    • @knifetimestory
      @knifetimestory  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe you. Something else is wrong there. Council, and all the Nordic brands of axes stamp them and nothing happens.

    👍 As usual a great story. I agree with almost everything you said.
    The only place we disagree is that I believe the BK2 is by far the worst knife Mr. Becker designed as it has no real value for any real tasks.
    Having said that, I also believe your mods do make this knife somewhat useful (lemonade from lemons). But, it remains the only knife in the BK series that I would never purchase again.
    Regarding your comment about stippling the stock scales. I find you a very reasonable and intelligent person; therefore, I do not believe breathing in massive amounts of toxic dust particles in any way damaged your brain. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @knifetimestory
      @knifetimestory  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As always I really enjoyed your comment! Thank you very much. I guess I agree with you to a point in that it seems that when it is time to let a knife go, I’m usually willing to be talked out of the BK2 but not any other knives. I’m constantly trying to convince myself that it is my most useful knife…truth be known, BK7 spends more time with me than anything else!
      As always, thank you very much for your thoughtful comment and for watching. I really do appreciate it!

      @@knifetimestory I have never owned a BK7, but did own a BK9. I have regretted selling it. Why do you prefer the BK7? Maybe I owned the wrong large BK knife. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @knifetimestory
      @knifetimestory  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question. I have had the BK nine and it is just too unwieldy. If you wanna slice stuff but yet have something that you can wipe and chop with, the seven is a very happy medium.
      The 9 inch knife that I have now and have had for eight years is the scrapyard knife company number nine. I did a head-to-head comparison with the BK nine and for me… This knife came out on top because of the bleed weight the grind and the comfort of the rubber handle. They are ridiculously expensive now.

      @@knifetimestory I keep wanting a BIG knife and am most always disappointed. Your response refreshed my memory on why I sold my BK9, as you said it was simply too BIG for any real knife tasks.
      I guess I need to realize I am a small fixed blade, saw, & SAK kind of guy.
      Thank you for keeping me from buying another BK9. 😀
