    I wrote morning pages for a while and I was going through a difficult time in my life, I was depressed and I found that writing morning pages was making me feel worse, not better so I stopped. I think I will start writing them again.

      Good that you stopped if you felt they weren't working for you at the time. It's important to monitor how you're feeling, and if you're focussing on negative aspects of your life, it's OK to steer these pages towards positive affirmations. Let me know how you get on. 🙏

    I can't put myself in the mindset of someone who doesn't know know what to write in a "write what's in your mind" situation like this. Do their thoughts completely stop? I doubt it, so why don't they write what they're thinking? "I'm not really sure what else to talk about?" "I've run out of ideas" "What to say? What to say? What to say?" If I ever get stuck my filler phrase will probably be "doo be doo be doo ba doo be doo be doo ba" which is the Doofenshmirt's tune from Phineas and Ferb

      If there is a physical reason why you can't write by hand then type by all means. I do believe writing by hand gives us greater connection, then typing is better than not doing it at all, because you'll still tap into the unconscious mind if you do it at the right time.

    Dear Martin, I highly enjoy the content of your video’s, one thing I would like to ask you though: why do you add these static snippets to your video? I have a visual impairment and this makes it perhaps more straining to deal with these kind of static elements, (they make me startle, almost jump out of my skin when they come, perhaps also because of the soundbites that accompany them). For me watching your video’s would be a more comfortable experience if those were not in there. The multiple camera angles in this particular video also make it harder for me to focus on the message you want to share. Is there a reason why you put in these aspects in your video’s? Is it to spice them up or does it help others to focus better perhaps? Would love to hear your perspective on this! Kind regards and keep sharing your valuable insights!

    • @sketchley
      @sketchley 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi, thank you for your comment; I'm sorry you find the static uncomfortable. In this video this effect is used to differentiate between sections, especially between the first sepia flash forward to what comes later. The two camera angles are used to maintain interest and hide cuts: sometimes I may pause, think, fluff a line or simply decide during the edit that there's something I don't want to include after all; cutting to the second camera hides these changes without ruining the flow. I'll bear your comments in mind for future videos.

    Thank you, Martin! You've given me a lot to consider. In particular, yes - the subconscious, that is what I am deliberately trying to tap. As Hawke says, powerful and true. You said to allow the mind to open up, write the thoughts without constraint. As I reflect on that, I think what I am seeing is fear. Powerful and true can be scary, and I feel the fear makes me shy away and shut my journal. There is a saying among software engineers, of which I am one, that "premature optimization is the root of all evil." I feel like that is what I am doing in those situations - there is an editor of the thought between my brain and the hand which is trying to fix/censor the thought before it sees the light of day. This is also on point with one of your first comments - about approaching the MPs as a writer, trying to fill the pages with writing -- instead of the thoughts. Tomorrow, I will try to approach with some observational perspective and try some positive affirmations. Thanks!

      @@sketchley Hey Martin, thanks for checking in. It had been on my mind to update you on this video. My morning pages are going very well now, very satisfying. I think that in the end it was the very first thing you said - asking if I was approaching it as a writing exercise. I defintely am trying to tap my unconscious and my creativity and write, and I have been using morning pages to help me with that. I had fallen into trying to be "efficient" and doing two things at once: morning pages and writing. I think what I said before about the fear - I think that is still true, but less on the morning page side of things and more on the writing side. You know, if you want to write meaningful things I think you have to write Meaningful Things - which can be scary. So now, my morning page sessions are - I think - more as intended. Just about the flow of routing thoughts to paper via hand and arm. When I want to do some writing, that is a separate thing. Thanks again!

    When I write Morning Pages, and that's been a while. I just write, it's mumbo jumbo mostly. Sometimes, something helpful will come out, but mostly not. I just write for three pages A5. Hi Martin! It's been half a year since I came across your TH-cam channel and I have been writing Morning Pages ever since. Actually, I had been writing them even before that and I had stopped it for some time, but I got inspired again after coming across your channel six months ago, and decided to restart this habit. Although it doesn't really bring a lot of difference to my life, I got to see some instances where my mind was trying to break its own tedium whenever my writing got repetitive, and I could get glimpses of untapped creativity within myself. The only thing is, I'm not able to make that window open for long. Is there some way I could achieve that? My writing gets too repetitive and it is at times, quite demotivating. And I don't mean I'm trying to write some meaningful story. I know that Morning Pages is just about naked stream of consciousness writing. It's just that my thoughts get too repetitive and I end up filling pages with "I don't have anything else to say/write", "What else?" etc. That makes me demoralised and uninspired. What can I do to break this pattern and make the most out of this practice?

Just writing down all the things in life you're grateful for, then on a daily basis just a few things from the day. Doesn't have to be much, and they don't have to be big things.

    Thank you so much.. I'm watching this the day after I've ran my 2nd ever workshop.. I asked for feedback and got some very helpful observations but delivered very bluntly.. I'm definitely a very thick skinned person.. life and age contributes to that I think 🤔.. I've been doing a lot of soul searching lately and awhile ago you inadvertently got me onto gratitude journaling.. I can guarantee that has been 100% game changer for me.. gratitude has sneaked into my psyche and completely changed my whole perception.. the bluntness of the comment I received would of definitely shaken my ego and confidence before and I would of probably given up.. so sorry for the long reply but just wanted to thank you sir and let you know that your channel does reach people, probably more than you expect 😊

    Thank you for sharing your tips on micro-journaling. I was curious about how it works and what to do. When I get ideas I usually write them down to look at later. I used to journal as an update on my daily or weekly life, so a diary. Which I still do but not as often. I want to give this a shot when I take breaks from social media and see what changes for myself.

    I tried today for the 1st time. I didn't finish my A5. Someone was ringing the doorbell and it was really annoying me. But it was a tight rule A5 so I guess in a normal ruled A5 book I would have finished it. Half of what I wrote was complaints about the exercise and that my hand hurt from writing nonstop. Looking at my handwriting I don't know if I was writing too fast or if it was just because I could barely see the page with how sleepy I was. This seems like a really big waste to me. I'm already used to write with no filters because it's for me and no one else. So what do I have to gain from this?

    • @sketchley
      @sketchley 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What have you to gain? To be honest, I don't know. Only you can know that. Your comment feels full of frustration. Maybe this just wasn't the day? Or maybe you don't need to do it at all. It's not for everybody, especially if you already do this kind of writing in another way. What do you want from morning pages? And why did you try it?

    Hi Richard, I bought the MP Journal today and part of me is looking forward to getting started and the other part thinks it will be a disaster, I will have nothing to say, or it will be morbidly depressive! Any tips?

    • @sketchley
      @sketchley 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Those concerns you have are probably the place to start. Let the words come. Follow the writing. But if it wanders too far into the negative, gently steer it back to positive territory. Let me know how you get on.

    Wait. Why do you rip off the hardcovers again? (I could hear the covers screaming out loud in pain.) Why not just get a softcover version?

    • @sketchley
      @sketchley 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When I made this I was trying the bullet journal method and didn't want to migrate my stuff frequently, hence I wanted the greater page count of the hardcovers: soft covers are only available in slimmer volumes. Not sure I'll be using Leuchtturm any more anyway. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment 🙏

    • @RosieSotomayorDelacruz629
      @RosieSotomayorDelacruz629 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh, okay. I hear you. Yeah, isn't it odd that the Leuchtturm softcover journals have fewer pages? I can usually fit six months in a LT 1917 hardcover journal. It's easier to find things if I just have two journals per year as opposed to three or four journals.
