  • Morning pages are best written in the morning, but for some people this isn't easy! I'll discuss exactly when to write morning pages, and what the difference may be if you write your "morning pages" at other times of day.
My name's Martin Sketchley. I'm a published novelist, writer, editor and Royal Literary Fund Writing Fellow with 30 years' experience across business, fiction, other non-fiction, scriptwriting and education.

I recall reading years ago, from Julia Cameron that you "shouldn't" go back and read what was written previously. I found it to be helpful in writing it and letting it go.......

That is what she says. I don't go back and read, unless it feels useful for my work, for example. I've got a video on something like this planned, so do subscribe if you haven't already: lots more to come! 👍

Recently started morning pages. After a little trial and error I found the best time for me is immediately on waking.
I've been shocked at the impact it has had.
Most of what I write makes little sense.
That said I've had some real insights and great ideas appear on the page that I don't believe I would of had if it wasn't for morning pages.
I've also noticed my headspace has been clearer during the day.
    It's been a game changer 🙂

I‘m doing Morning pages only since ten days. Since I have a dog, for which I have to prepare medicine first thing in the morning, I start writing ca. 10 minutes after waking up. I have no problem filling 3-4 DIN A 4 pages with a small handwriting. I guess I am sort of a chatterbox. I have had some interesting thoughts by now and although I will throw away the book with my Morning pages once it is full, I will keep the most interesting thoughts and insights in a commonplace book with all kind of things worth to remember. I really am glad that I learned of this Morning pages and am currently reading J. Camerons „It is never too late to begin again.“
Thank you for your videos here on TH-cam - I enjoy them tremendously!

i grab a cup of coffee then run back to my bed and do them it is really good to do them in a messy environment too, i found that doing them after making my bad takes the rawness and makes me focus on chores of the day in my writing

I've been giving Morning Pages a go this week. It's quite amazing how easily the words flow at that time in the morning, 0600. It's a gentle start to the day.

Thanks for inspiring the video! 🙏 I’m doing mine right after waking up now too. It is very different - and better, I think. Let me know how you get on!

I'm convinced! Tonight I will put my special cold coffee in a covered thermal cup by my bed with a journal and pen so I can be in that magical headspace.

Great stuff Martin. We were out at the beach and an ice cream parlour this morning. I was scribbling in the Passport notebook.

I've been doing Morning Pages for about three years and almost never miss a day. It's about the most consistent thing I do, largely I think, because I do it as soon as after waking as possible. (About as long as it take to make a cup of herbal tea.) I use a $1 notebook and cheap pen - otherwise the volume of writing could get expensive. I rarely go back and read my pages, but I keep them just in case. I've started making a mark in the margin if I think there's anything I might want to look at some day, but most of it is just routine stuff that likely has no value.

I've been doing mine after meditation and Yoga, but now am wondering if I'd do better in getting out of bed and starting writing immediately...

It's worth a try to see if the process feels different. I'm definitely going back to doing mine first thing.

Lol, finished within 45 minutes of waking 😂 it took me over an hour when I tried. I wrote on letter sized paper. I thought the recommendation was to write on A4 paper?

    • @sketchley
      @sketchley  หลายเดือนก่อน

When I was introduced to it the person was using A5; lots of people use A5. Some people use A4 as I do at the moment, but I'll go back to B5. I'll make a video about this...
