Really good advice, useful across a range of writing tasks, thank you. If I may make one comment, you have a great on-camera style and I love the way your videos are put together. The one thing I would change: use a less wide angle lens.
Thanks. Glad you found the video useful! I use my phone on cinematic mode to shorten the depth of field and blur the background; I plan to move back a little from the camera and use my laptop to make sure so I'm higher in the frame. So much to learn!
Thanks Martin, great tips. We spoke when you were at University of Worcester, (I'm doing a PhD). I'm going to try the re-keying, for a chapter of my thesis, although I'm not sure if I'd be brave enough to delete all copies... I might just email myself a copy first... ha ha! 😅
Your so right about need for resilience. But I need it before getting published. I've just completed two writing projects and really enjoyed them. But now that's I'm getting them out to a wider audience a voice inside says "It's really crap" "It's no good at all".
Are you getting feedback or looking at your work with other people's eyes because you know it's "out there" and being super-critical? If the former, judge where the feedback is coming from and asses its value; if the latter, that's something you can just stop. Nothing has changed. There is no difference. The piece of writing is as good now as it was when you decided it was good enough to send it out into the world. Just get on to the next thing, because the pleasure is in the process of creation: th-cam.com/video/66yeotHZtwU/w-d-xo.html
I think that if someone is a real writer, they will write no matter what. Same as real painters paint because they have to. Same goes for thinkers. Whether they get published or exhibited is of little interest to them. They just do their thing. I knew a few such people personally, and a few by their work. I'm pretty sure you did too. 😉 But I'm certain that some people look for a guide or a teacher, and you are the one I would recommend wholeheartedly. 👍
Thanks for the lovely comment. I guess my mindset has for a long time being directed towards being a "professional" writer. I always wanted to do it for a living. Now I recognise that it underpins everything I do, my life revolves around it. Thanks for watching; more to come!
Here’s some constructive criticism, I’m a new subscriber found you through a search for The Artists Way Morning Pages, o like what you have to say, quite a lot HOWEVER….I find the whoosh or static sounds in your video breaks most distracting and at times a tad annoying…it’s the only thing that I would recommend that you might consider leaving out of your valuable content.

I don't think I ever deleted mine, either! Once you try it, you'll know it works. 👍

Hi there, Love the videos and I am curious what software do you use to create these with?
Check out VideoScribe.

Thanks. I'll bear it in mind. I've gone back to the whiteboard format so might be using those effects any more anyway.
