Welcome to our Wandering Honda CRF300 adventure motorcycle channel. Steff and I travel extensively on our little Hondas. Where possible we enjoy remote locations and slow travel off-road and on routes less travelled. We occasionally do reviews of our bikes or various equipment when requested. We'd love you to join us on our travels.

Wow, that got rugged, fast! And I think, like you, I've run out of superlatives to describe the scenery.
I love that even though you come from a country with incredible amazing and breathtaking scenery you are still happy to enjoy scenery elsewhere 😊
@@wanderinghonda7963 There's beautiful scenery all over the world, and it's nice seeing places I'm not likely to be able to afford to visit.
Just watched all episodes. Great little travel adventure. Envious of your freedom. But glad to share. I ll be checking out your other ACT travels
Thanks! So glad you enjoyed the series 😊 There’s a very short break in the channel with just a couple of videos from Cornwall then we’ve got some great series as we travel in Africa. Hopefully you’ll enjoy them 😊
Thanks for your series, Simon. Really enjoyed your trip, the torrential rain, the mosquitoes (a blatant lie), the views, the wildlife. Hope your DJI audio can be repaired. Wishing you all the best for Tanzania, Günter/Nürnberg
Cheers Gùnter! I’m so pleased you enjoyed this series and hopefully you’ll enjoy what’s coming up soon We are loving Africa! 😊
This is a great video guys. Thank you very much for posting this. We’re down in Central America, which is our dream dual sport location and we happen to live here now. I come from the iron Butt Association driving our 1200 & RT’s and I bought a XR650L 2013, which someone had here, and all farkled up. For my wife, the CFR300L and I LOVE IT …. I think I’m going to buy the RALLY version. The XR650L has full exhaust, carb jetted, intake … But the FUEL injection of the CRF300L is amazing (except in 1st 😅) … a VORTEX ECU and free flowing muffler will fix it up. Thanks again .
Sounds like you have a fantastic stable of bikes and a gorgeous place to ride them in! Thanks for the lovely comment 😊
High horsepower does nothing for offroad riding, it's a detriment and modern adventure bikes will have extra electronic sensors to control wheel spin and traction. You pay for the high horsepower adventure bike and you only ever to get to use the full power when you are on the road. It's a marketing tactic to push the average buyer into buying something that isn't needed, and they know it because everyone is a believer in that bigger is always better - it's the American way. The CRF300L Rally is a common sense trail bike, and if you want a go fast 0 to 60 in 2 sec bike, you literally have hundreds of other bikes to choose from.
We agree. We still love ours 😊 I’m currently in Africa on a T7 and there have been a few times I’d wished I was on my 300! (Although I have grown to really enjoy the T7) We’ll be doing a 60,000km report on what’s failed on the bike as well as possibly a T7 comparison review
Quick question (as I’ve a CRF like yours and am setting it up for some longer overseas trips with some camping) - is your Mosko Moto 40L or 80L? They’re expensive so don’t want to commit to the wrong thing! My inclination is 80L as you can’t have too much space (and can have too little!) but concerned in case they swamp the bike. Just love your videos and where you go. Also your “what camping gear you use” was very useful, thanks. My wife has a Triumph 400. We’ve both traded down from 950 Multistradas, T7, Africa Twin, Tiger 800 etc. Who needs big, heavy, expensive bikes?
We did the same. We kept getting smaller and smaller with the bikes. We love the lightweight nature of the 300’s for travel. Although weirdly I’m currently in Lesotho in Africa riding a T7! I still love the 300 though 😊 We have the 80’s. We totally get what you mean as they are so expensive! Any of our videos (maybe the Portuguese ACT videos?) will give you a good idea of the size of the 80’s on the bikes (Steff has a lowered bike so it looks slightly smaller)
Got to be hard to ride that trail and *_not_* look at the view.
Aren’t those views amazing! We do get distracted easily though 😂
Back from Friulia/Northeastern Italy and finally able to catch up with your series, Simon. A CRF 300 on AX41 is so easy to ride, even when riding fast on roads with lots of lean. But your range on the Rally is much better, inspiring for remote regions. One of the best things of that Honda is its ability to get you in trouble (diversions) and out of it. Happy days, Günter/Nürnberg
So sorry about the late reply. I’ve not had internet for almost a week (I’m in Lesotho Africa at the minute) Did you have a good trip? Sounds amazing
@@wanderinghonda7963 Wow, Simon, Lesotho. Remember hiking in the Drakensberge very well. Quite different from Friulia in Indian summer. 95% small and winding roads, very little traffic, amazing views. 5% gravel, not too easy. Likely to be there again next October. If you ever plan to ride there I'd help out with gpx. Enjoy Africa and Sani pass, Günter/Nürnberg
@enduromotorradtouren cheers Günter, we did Sani pass this morning, conditions were ok. Not too bad but still tricky enough! Glad you’re back from your trip safely. I think we’ll be taking a couple of months rest during the winter 😊
@@wanderinghonda7963 Taking a rest is important. Just a few training & tour weekends for me and a Portugal trip, then I'll be tired enough for winter ;-) Cheers, Günter/Nürnberg
@enduromotorradtouren looking forward to hearing about Portugal at this time of year! Ride safe 😊
Hi from Helsingborg at the bottom of Sweden near Malmö, just found your channel & watched the whole journey & thoroughly enjoyed it, Subbed to your channel I'm a Brighton boy who did a lot of riding in England & moved here at 26, been here 31 years now & still get blown away by it's stunning scenery, I got back on 2 wheels again last year & started my own vlog channel a short time back & been trying to grow it , I have been admiring your editing & style, hopefully I might learn some tricks to improve my vids, Ride safe both of you, I look forward to new adventures , Cheers
Thanks so much for the lovely comments. We really appreciate knowing that people enjoy watching. It makes there hassle of recording our trips worth it 😊 We’ll check out your videos when we’re back! Hopefully you’ll enjoy what’s coming up on the channel even though it’s not Sweden. I definitely plan a return visit “up north”!
@wanderinghonda7963 I just checked out The Jammy gits also & sent them a text & Sub, Fun couple, jeez is everyone in Sweden just now haha..Well if you do get here again coffee & cake is on me & a hot shower haha Cheers
I’ll hold you to that! Steff will be with me and she loves cake 😂
Love your videos! Can I ask what kind of edit program you use
First of all as I’ve mentioned to a couple of people I’m so sorry about the late reply. I’m currently in Africa and internet is very spotty where I am. I use Final Cut Pro 😊
What ferry did you use please, I hope to follow in your wheel tracks in the new year.
First of all as I’ve mentioned to a couple of people I’m so sorry about the late reply. I’m currently in Africa and internet is very spotty where I am. I’m not sure which ferry you mean? Do you mean the way up north or the return? I’ve forgotten the return ferry but can easily dig out the information if you need it 😊 If you mean the ferry heading north I think it was Rostock - Trelleborg, the details are in episode one if you’re planning to go that way 😊
Thanks, I’ll have a look back through the vids and see what ferry’s you used.
@julescontrol my pleasure. Enjoy your trip it’s stunning 😊
Sorry to hear of the mishap not zipping tank bag and camera falling out. Its so easy for things like that to happen on a loaded bike. All it takes is a second of distraction.....not to mention pouring rain. Too bad there wasn't a way to reach the waterfall. Drone to the rescue thankfully. Wow, looked absolutely spectacular. Really enjoyed this series learning/seeing what the TET is like and surrounding countryside. Thank you! Rain does seem to be a given almost everyday. Maybe you will miss the rainy season in Tanzania but it should be decent temps at least! Hope no problems on trip back to UK. Looking forward to next series. Peace! Ride Safe!
First of all as I’ve mentioned to a couple of people I’m so sorry about the late reply. I’m currently in Africa and internet is very spotty where I am. I’m so glad you enjoyed the series! You are right the rain was a bit of a pain 😆 but the scenery made up for it. Thanks so much for your lovely comments during the series and I really hope you enjoy what’s coming up!
Thanks for all your efforts. Ive really enjoyed this Norway trip.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for letting me know its really appreciated 😊
What a fabulous series husband. Beautiful scenery, gorgeous riding, all brought together with some impressive editing and entertaining chat. I have loved every second of following along on a journey I wasn’t able to go on myself. Would you mind going again if I can get the time off work next summer?! xxx.

Thanks for the journey, hopefully Tanzania will be as wet! 😂
I can give you a sneak peek that it wasn’t as wet but it definitely had drama!
I meant to say it wouldn't be as wet! Look forward to seeing the next installment.
😆👍🏼
Absolutely gorgeous. Looks like you picked the right season.
Definitely! We were quite lucky. I think we picked the seasons perfectly 😊
What a great series, thoroughly enjoyed watching, thank you. Was relieved you beat the bug Steph, much respect to your endurance to keep going, can’t have been easy 👍🏻 Those Hondas are great little bikes 👍🏻
Thanks so much for your lovely comment. We’re so sorry any the late reply, we’re travelling and have been put off comms for a while Hopefully you’ll enjoy what’s coming up on the channel 🎉
so fun to see your journey, very nicely recorded and so inspiring. thanks
I’m so sorry about the delay in replying I’m currently travelling. I’m so glad you enjoyed it and really appreciate the comment! Hopefully you’ll enjoy all the upcoming stuff 😊
OK, the scenery's gone from beautiful and spectacular to "bloody terrifying". On the edge of my seat with my fear of heights screaming in the back of my head.
We love that episode! It brings so many memories back. We still think it’s one of the best days riding we’ve had.
@@wanderinghonda7963 It looks like an epic day's riding. Excellent filming and editing it together - I definitely felt like I was along for the ride. Can relate to looking at an incline and being convinced that the bike won't make it but then being pleasantly surprised that it was easier than you thought.
Those partridges went to the _Prometheus_ School of Running Away From Things. Kept getting distracted by the scenery and pausing the video to gawk at the splendour.
😂👍🏼
That place just gets more and more beautiful the further you ride!
We love the Pyrenees!
Just looking at your Klim vest, Simon. That's the "Arsenal", isn't it? I favour vests with numerous pockets myself - though the Klim is several cuts above the ones I buy - to carry all the stuff I need but not bulk out or otherwise impede my arms.
Yes it’s the klim arsenal. It’s exceptionally handy for me because I need access to a fair amount of various camera stuff while I’m riding and the storage is amazing There is a but coming though It doesn’t flow as much air as a standard rucksack when it’s really hot and there’s no getting away from the fact it’s a “strange look” 😂
@@wanderinghonda7963 There's always a "but" 😆 Fortunately, I'm quite accustomed to looking strange...
😆
That was a stunning ride. You almost got through without getting soaked.
So close 😂
@@wanderinghonda7963 It's always the way. The minute you think you avoided it, it seeks you out.
safe trip home
Thank you 😊
I’ve loved this trip, Norway was definitely the more spectacular area. That weather though, it’s on the list with my brother living in Denmark but from the UK I need a few years in the sun on our trips before we go there. Tanzania 😮 I can’t wait ❤
Thank you! I couldn’t agree more, they are such lovely places to visit but boy oh boy the weather 😂 I can’t blame you wanting to stock up on the sunshine before you go and visit! Hopefully you’ll bear with a few short gaps while we catch up with everything but the stuff coming should be awesome 🎉
Great video. Those dogs ☺️
Thanks, those dogs looked so happy! Very cute 😆
Iv had my CRF 300 Rally for around 2 years ( not as many kms around 12000km ) as I have other bikes . Mine has predominantly been used for off road riding - and some pretty full on 😂, I agree ☝️ it handles great 👍 once suspension is sorted . I ride it quite hard in the trails , I am short so I put a YSS fully adjustable rear ( a shorter shock ) and YSS front progressive spring made a MASSIVE difference. Reliably has been ALMOST fantastic BUT I had my fan motor go , but it was replaced under warranty. Other than that nothing. Mods Besides suspension I put on Barkbusters hand guards and agree with what you said Rear rack , full FMF system, UNI- Filter form filter , alloy bars , and modified ECU , with pipe and airbox mod I gain around 4 HP . But do disagree with crash bars and bash plate the stock “ fairing protects the bike in a fall and rocks from below “, when and if it breaks will buy a bash plate on . But overall iv been very impressed with the beating it takes . Paul from Australia
Thanks for the comment. It’s always good to get other views and experiences 😊 I think everyone is proving that Honda has a built an awesome little machine!
Perfect video as always 😍
Thank you for your lovely comment 😊
For some time now, the owners of the gravel paths have no longer been allowed to maintain their paths themselves. You have to hire certified companies, so it has become very expensive to use these routes. I got this from a Norwegian or Swedish TH-camr. Thx for this awesome series.
Interesting! Thanks for letting me know, the charges make even more sense now.
What an awesome group of people, yourselves included, and what a fantastic trail! The scenery looks gorgeous.
They are a really lovely bunch 😊
You made it *3 miles* before stopping for a coffee??? You guys are living LEGENDS! I'd do well to get a couple of kilometres down the road before stopping for coffee.

So i`m looking foreward to meet again….. // gerd
Get your self a few sets of Barkbusters and you’ll save yourself a lot of time.
We agree! On all our previous bikes we’ve had barkbusters and they are brilliant (as long as you are not running stock bars otherwise the bar will bend before the protection which defeats the point of having a sacrificial part!) When I was getting these bikes ready for travelling they simply weren’t available so I had to fit these 🤦🏻♂️ We’ve actually used acerbis on this trip in Africa we’re currently on and they seem to have improved in strength! Having said that they work, sort of 😂 They are quick to put back to shape and they protect the levers Definitely agree about the quality of barkbusters though!
OK, caught up with all the Swedish/Norwegian TET until the next one drops, so I guess I'll just have to look at some of the other tours you've done while I'm waiting. Really awesome!
😂 New episodes are published on Friday afternoons (UK time) Unfortunately as you go back in time our episodes are probably not as well filmed or thought through. The film making is certainly a steep learning curve and hopefully we get better with each series After the last Scandinavian episode on Friday there’s a small gap of a week or so then a channel update with previews of the awesome African adventures we’re having this year I wish I could edit faster 😂
The Pyrenees is a nice series to watch perhaps while you wait if you enjoy nice scenery
@@wanderinghonda7963 Cheers for the heads up. I definitely want to watch the Pyrenees and you said Portugal and Wales were where the more technical trails were. I see you take a laptop with you. How do you manage to keep it charged long enough?
Electronics are the bane of my life! I carry a lot of kit now when travelling and charging is a constant job I carry two large power banks and Steff (who you’ll get to know from other series) also carries multiple large power banks.
@@wanderinghonda7963 I have enough issue just managing my phone, earbuds, torch and headlamp (my torch and headlamp use rechargeable 18650 batteries). I'm forming a mental image of you stopping at a "Hoity Toity Hotel" for a night and plugging in a bunch of power banks and electronics to charge them up to cover the next couple of days on the trail.
Definitely a gorgeous sunset in a beautiful spot. Thanks for sharing.
A pleasure!
2:55 - ah, the hammock of which you spoke. Different style than mine. They're just the ticket for old buggers like me who can't get up off the ground as easily as I once could and want a really comfy night's sleep.
I think I’m going to have to try a hammock!
@@wanderinghonda7963 I started with a DD Hammocks Travel Hammock/Bivi with a DD 3m x 3m tarp, made a lot of mods to the system. Now I've got a Onewind 11' hammock and a DD 3.5m x3.5m tarp - the whole lot packs down smaller than my 3-person tent and it's a lot taller than the tent when set up, a lot more space under the tarp than there is in the tent, too.
Bloody awesome meet-up with The Jammy Gits on the trail! They look cool, went and checked out their channel and subscribed. "The Gents" was a helluva laugh. Don't want to show my disdain for any of the bikes, tho....
Martha and Mitch are such lovely people 😊
I'd be getting just as distracted - and probably starting late in the mornings too, to be honest. And I'm sure there's a law that says "never pass up coffee and ice cream". It looks too beautiful to be "boring". Sure, it might not be as gnarly or technical as some people may like, but that may well suit other riders. Looks like you take a layered approach to your riding garments like I do, with just a thin waterproof outer for when it rains. I used to have the heavy Cordura waterproof jacket with the zip-out liner... that was still too hot to wear in summer even with the liner out. Now I go for multiple layers that I can add/remove as required depending on the temperature and whether or not it's raining.
It’s interesting you mention the layering because we’ve considered doing a video on it. Obviously different things suit different people and we wouldn’t want to say our system is the best but I wish somebody had advised us when we first started adventure riding, they would’ve saved us thousands of pounds spent on the latest adventure suits with all of the marketing that goes on behind them The system we use works from freezing temperatures up to 40°C temperatures with just a few simple layering tricks Your comment has probably motivated me to do a quick video with Steph when I get back on what we wear when we travel on the bikes. It might be useful for some people.
@@wanderinghonda7963 Yes, please do make a video on that. In my case, the layering came from my camping background - except that on the motorbike there's the option of an armour layer - it occurred to me (sadly, only a couple of years ago) that the principles that applied to keeping me comfortable while camping _in whatever weather_ could be applied to motorcycling. Prior to that, I periodically suffered whenever the weather was either too hot or too cold for whatever expensive riding gear I was wearing. As you say, no system is the best and everything's a matter of what suits any given individual, but a video showing what you use might well help some people. May just do one of my own, now.
Yeeeaaah, you were right about the mud!
😂
2 minutes in and I've already seen some spectacular scenery and an awesome shirt that I now want - that's a pretty solid start! 14:33 to 15:12: - is that the "worst" the trail gets on the TET or does it get really technical at some places? If/when I get to Europe, I'd love to do bits of the TET. Can well understand missing turnoffs due to being distracted by the scenery and wanting to stop and explore everything. That was a beautiful episode, awesome spot you got to camp.
I really laughed when Steff got me that shirt. The TET elsewhere (Wales and Portugal being examples that jump to mind) can get exceptionally technical, however, not Scandinavia. Sweden in particular is wonderfully mellow (although in a later episode you’ll see it’s got the very occasional muddy section).
@@wanderinghonda7963 Yeah, the shirt's epic. I've seen the sentiment expressed before and pairing it with Animal is just brilliant. Thanks for the advice on the TET. I'll have a look at your Portugal and Wales vids after I've finished the Scandinavian series. Lovely being able to see beautiful places around the world.
Enjoy! If we were recommending any riding trail in Europe I’d say the Pyrenees is a magical place. That’s the one place we’re definitely going back to soon The scenery is stunning and the trails were amazing. Although from what I’ve heard about NZ I suspect it’s nothing compared to the beauty you have on your doorstep
@@wanderinghonda7963 Cheers for that. We certainly do have some stunning scenery here - and the advantage of it is that it's relatively *_close_* if you want to get to it from wherever you happen to be. And whether you want to go backpacking, motocamping, road or trail riding, there's something for you, and our road-accessible Freedom Camping areas are plentiful. Oddly, it's only very recently I've merged my two loves: camping and motorcycling. It used to be that camping was backpacking up in the Kaimai Range or on Mt Pirongia and motorcycling was riding around the countryside, taking long trips to visit family or faffing about with my trail bike along the river bank or an Enduro trail. Closest I did to "motocamping" was attending the Cold Kiwi motorcycle rally a few times, from 2006 to 2010. Now I'm transitioning from backpacking to motocamping - so my equipment is largely my backpacking gear (in panniers rather than in a rucksack) carried on my GSX250R - but I can now consider taking more because weight is no longer the limiting factor.
