    Perfect days for gravel touring. Great video. With every episode I'm more and more looking forward to my tour of Portugal in December. Accomodation outside walled towns is my preferred way to book, not only because of our boots. Have a great weekend, we celebrate the largest free-of-charge festival in Europe (Bardentreffen) this weekend, Günter/Nürnberg

    Looks absolutely fantastic and glad to see Steff back on form and clearly a lot better. The mining area is something I'd love to visit, as well as the beautiful villages. The trails look really good - didn't see anything I wouldn't ride my Gixxer through - and there seemed to be a lot of paved road, too.
    Love the fact that you come down a hill to a bridge, over the other end of which is another country. Man, I'd love to tour Europe!
    Awesome advice about staying outside the walled cities, I'll bear that in mind if/when I get to Portugal. Sitting here in New Zealand, I can identify exactly which room in the Hotel Beira Rio, in Mértola, you were showing off! Looks like a bloody awesome place, definitely quite a nice room and a good price.

      The trails were beautiful on that day. It was so fantastic to have Steff fit and healthy again, it was such a relief.

    Really enjoying this series. Loved the video. 0:46 to 1:07 - Awesome! Considering how ill Steff was, I thought she did well staying chipper throughout the ordeal. Not easy. Appreciate and relate to the history lesson and eyrie scenes of the bygone mining operation. Similarly coal mining was huge where we live in PA USA critical to the US industrial revolution of 19th/early 20th century. With no regulation at the time, we still have clear evidence in the form of acid mine drainage making waterways orange. And of course massive "boney piles" (waste from coal) which made for endless dirt bike riding and hill climbing as youngsters. Also appreciate the explanation of the walled towns and accommodation differences. Makes sense - like a mouse trap. Thank You for the video! Peace! ❤

      Really interesting to hear about the coal mining in PA, It’s a little sad the amount of damage big companies and industries can do with no conscience in the pursuit of profit.
      The way of the world I suppose but the history of that place was a little dark!
      We’ve often said we wish we’d ridden when we were younger, it sounds amazing to have that terrain to ride on when you were younger!
      Unfortunately the series is about to end but we’ve got lots more in the pipeline 🎉

      @@wanderinghonda7963 The good thing is reclamation projects have been underway for the last 25 years and slowly many areas are being returned to their former glory. Never thought about it when we were young but yea, looking back these boney piles or "slate dumps" were an oasis for dirt bike riders. Every coal town had a few. And no one cared because daily riding abuse couldn't damage it more than it was. LOL. Glad to hear of more adventures in the pipeline!! Ride Safe. Stay Well.

    Really interesting video guys. Steff, you are a trooper - how many of us would even want to go a 100 yards down the road to the shops when we’re ill, let alone jump on a motorbike and ride all day?, and well done to Simon for taking care of you

    I think i stayed in that hotel in April whilst on a bike trip. Its that in Mértola on the Guadiana River? There are two hotels next door to one another. I stayed in the Hotel Museu. There was an amazing restaurant called Tamuje, just inside the town wall.

    • @wanderinghonda7963
      @wanderinghonda7963  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, I think that was the one. Two hotels very close together sharing the same breakfast space. It was pretty good value, we were happy with it, a lovely place to spend the night!

    Well it was a dictatorship for several more years so human rights were not top priority 😅

      That’s a really good point and something we hadn’t really registered. Thinking about it now it’s a little more obvious why that situation was allowed to develop.
      Thanks for the info 👍🏼
