    • @chuckmasonfishingmichigan
      @chuckmasonfishingmichigan 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Absolutely you can, 63 MXF, available in the Eyecon, Avid, Avid Walleye and Legend Tournament Walleye series. Remember the lure rating on the rods, is only meant as a guideline for casting a bait. For decades, I used the 6'3" MXF Avid and Legend Walleye rods in the Detroit River with both 3/4 and 1 oz jigs

    Hold do you not mention the St. Clair river for handlining? In my opinion, more people pull wire on the SCR than the Detroit river 2 fold. I learned to pull wire 42 yrs ago on the SCR🤙😎🎣

      As I mentioned I was born over in Wyandotte where handlining started, 58 yrs ago come this August, before moving down to Lake Erie. Honestly, I don't pull wire up there because I don't have too. Once the MWT is out of Detroit, will be trolling or snap jigging hair on Lake Erie where the truly big fish hang out. Is it a great fishery, for sure, have a lot of friends who live in the area who also enjoy whipping, but why drive up there when it is less than 15 min to either Sterling or Bolles down here when fun fishing.

I’m confused on what I should run and how exactly to set up the lines it sounds like I should run the 30 and 10 food set up with your recommended lures and weights. But I’m confused as to how to set up and in what order to tie these lines together. Is there another video on YT that you could point me to? Or should I bother someone at one of the tackle shops? • @chuckmasonfishingmichigan
      @chuckmasonfishingmichigan 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Going to say both yes, and no. There are definitely some base colors or shades that I think are important. Something white, I think his huge, specially on Erie in slightly stained/dirty water. Then something dark, whether it is black or purple. Something shiny, like the candy colors, like antifreeze for an example.

    I’m laughing at your stubbornness on converting to quick change clevises. I did this long ago. And your OCD tendencies crack me up, too. I fish from a row troller, an Adirondack Guide Boat. There’s no way I have room for inefficiency and inventory. Everything has its place. Interchangeability and efficiency has to be built into my tackle. I go right down to the weights on my homemade bottom bouncers. I use tungsten bass weights that I can slide on and off the bouncers. I stack them on the bouncer stem as needed. Tungsten is twice as dense as lead and saves space. increased density reduces drag and line angle versus lead. Smaller size means fewer rock snags. The super hard tungsten also slides through snags whereas lead compresses itself and jams itself deeper into the snag. And by the way, the individual tungsten weights make one hell of a racket when they clank together while you’re actually bottom bouncing. Lead doesn’t do this. Expensive? Yes. But on my last outing I spent zero minutes with snagged bouncers while fishing a hard rock bottom. Zero. I’ve lost exactly zero tungsten bouncers. I’ll never go back to lead. Period. Other bouncer features that eliminate wasted time are soldered connections anywhere line can tangle or get snagged on the bouncer. Take the time to do this! Use solder or a uv cure resin. I don’t use anything but high quality ball bearing swivels at line attachment points. Finally, the short arm on my bouncers is longer than commercial types to keep my leader from wrapping around the main stem of the bouncer. And this arm is attached to the main bouncer stem just like the removable blade clevises are attached to a leader… a spiral metal winding on the aem allows the arm to spin around the main bouncer shaft. I use a lighter gauge wire for this arm, too, which also helps to allow my leader to unwrap itself should it ever become wrapper around the main stem. Have you ever used this type of bouncer?

All three are guarded so you dont have to worry about your truck/trailer. Erie Metro is a good launch, but if you have a strong south wind, it is pretty sketchy getting back in through the waves. Not sure about up there for your trailer, but down in Monroe, there is Sterling State Park which has a nice campground, and when you turn right and head north, three of the first launches are on the same road, Dixie/Jefferson (name changes)

      Hello Ray, I have several 63 MXF rods, nice choice! Normal thinking would be a LT 2000, but I really like the choice of the 2500SH to be honest. The handle is farther away from the axis of the reel seat, and makes it easier to fight the fish. Then consider that the 2500 doesn't weigh as much as a normal 2000, and you still have a fairly lightweight combination. Short answer is YES, I use Sufix Advanced in 10 lb, just remember to put some mono on for backing before spooling the top half of the reel's spool with your choice of braid.

    Detroit River is on my bucket list. I've never fished Erie but would love to fish the river (I live in Iowa). Thanks for the tips. Anybody talking fishing is my language

    Vexilar will fix a cut or spike marks in ur cable for like $50. I know because I cut my cable in 1/2 last year on my FLX30BB. VEXILAR advised me to use the transducer from my 8SE. It worked but way not as well but it did work. Couple of day turnaround.
