    Rooster looks like a Spinoni! I have had two of them. Great bird dogs and they make you laugh all the time

    Detroit River is on my bucket list. I've never fished Erie but would love to fish the river (I live in Iowa). Thanks for the tips. Anybody talking fishing is my language

      Not sure that will work, only because I am actually using my phone to record these videos. I might do it anyway, even if I have to raise my voice a bit.

    Excellent video Chuck thanks for the tips. I just started fishing the Detroit River from shore this year and have been searching around for spots and methods. I've been out 3 days in a row fishing near the Ambassador and so far haven't caught anything but snags.

    Planning to fish the Detroit River for the first time this spring. Can you recommend a good launch spot, coming from OH? We'd also like to park a truck camper and stay for several days. Nice video. Any tips are appreciated. Oh, and your pups need to relax more. lol liked and subbed.

    • @chuckmasonfishingmichigan

      Rooster is all pup....still lol. There are only three places on the river I would launch from; Elizabeth Park, Wyandotte Launch and Belanger Park. All three are guarded so you dont have to worry about your truck/trailer. Erie Metro is a good launch, but if you have a strong south wind, it is pretty sketchy getting back in through the waves. Not sure about up there for your trailer, but down in Monroe, there is Sterling State Park which has a nice campground, and when you turn right and head north, three of the first launches are on the same road, Dixie/Jefferson (name changes)

    Them minnows are made wrong for a jig head maybe one day they will make one just for a walleye gum ball jig that lines up right.. so u don't need the trailer hook that's silly I have these minnows but not showing or telling people about them I am just looking for some one to help me get them on the market..but it's a nightmare trying to do that

    Hello from Oregon, Question - I just got a Eyecon 6'3" M/XF jig rod. Mostly for Sm. Mouth, Lakes & maybe river. Do you think a Daiwa Revos Lt. 2500SH be a good choice? For braid 8-10 lb. Thanks for your time. Ray S.

    • @chuckmasonfishingmichigan
      @chuckmasonfishingmichigan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Ray, I have several 63 MXF rods, nice choice! Normal thinking would be a LT 2000, but I really like the choice of the 2500SH to be honest. The handle is farther away from the axis of the reel seat, and makes it easier to fight the fish. Then consider that the 2500 doesn't weigh as much as a normal 2000, and you still have a fairly lightweight combination. Short answer is YES, I use Sufix Advanced in 10 lb, just remember to put some mono on for backing before spooling the top half of the reel's spool with your choice of braid.

      as long as the reel isn't too heavy, should match up great with a 6'6" rod, medium or medium heavy ?

  • @samhiss6807
    @samhiss6807 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    ...do you bother with a flourocarbon leader or do you take braid right to the jig?

    • @chuckmasonfishingmichigan
      @chuckmasonfishingmichigan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In a tourney situation, I always run a leader, 10 lb fluorocarbon, connected with a swivel. It's an edge thing, and since we often are looking for clean water, it makes a difference, specially when first setting up in the morning. Not worried too much about snagging because I am running one of my Vexilar (FL-22 HD) units off the universal sonar off the Minn-Kota.

    Can I use a stcroix 6.3 medium with a 1 once jig

    • @chuckmasonfishingmichigan
      @chuckmasonfishingmichigan  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely you can, 63 MXF, available in the Eyecon, Avid, Avid Walleye and Legend Tournament Walleye series. Remember the lure rating on the rods, is only meant as a guideline for casting a bait. For decades, I used the 6'3" MXF Avid and Legend Walleye rods in the Detroit River with both 3/4 and 1 oz jigs

      @@stefanosansalone5239 you will really like it, the new legends are a blend of the SCIV and material you find in the higher end Legends; lighter, stronger and more importantly, even more sensitive

    Hi Chuck I'm really hoping you will reply to my message I'm looking for that 5'8" St.Croix LWTS58HF in a slip grip and when I go onto the sight I find the new series of the St.Croix Legend tournament walleye Rods but they don't offer the slit grip is there a way you can guide me in the right direction so I can get what I want.. My next question is how do you stack up the Avid walleye series 5'8" jigging rod to the one you like best? Hope you get back and I'd at all possibly can I leave my number to you and maybe you could school me in on more information! Thanks again hoping to here from you

    • @chuckmasonfishingmichigan
      @chuckmasonfishingmichigan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They changed the Legend Tournament rods shortly after this video and went to the full cork handle. I helped a lil bit in the testing and development of the Avid Walleye, you will not be disappointed with the 5'8" HF in that series!

    • @jessealvarez8893

      @Chuck Mason: Fishing Michigan with the full handle legend does it make a difference in feel I have several of the new blue rods mostly all in the blue bass tournament series really like the new design but yet to buy a walleye series just for the fact of that straight handle just wondering if it might change my feel for the bights do to that straight handle. Thanks again for everything and the tips you give really enjoy the Channel

    • @chuckmasonfishingmichigan
      @chuckmasonfishingmichigan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jessealvarez8893 not really, the rods are so light, you really keep the desired balance, specially if you are using the Daiwa LT models. With the Legend Tournaments, you really keep the sensitivity you come to expect from St Croix. Not sure how old your Legend Tournament Bass rods are, but both are now made with the SCIV+ carbon fiber material. Basically everything you loved about the SCIV, with the extra sensitivity you would come to expect with the high end Legend rods
      thanks for the compliments, it is fun to do, and interact with other anglers!

      @@chuckmasonfishingmichigan not using a Diawia on the rod only because I was going to put a Shimano Vanford 2000 size on the 5'8" Legend tournament walleye series that I was talking to you about it's a very light reel one of the lights in a spinning reel I think buy talking to you I'm going to make the perching of the day St.Croix LWTS58HF even though it's a solid Cork handle I think everything will be just fine so what do you think on your thoughts I know your not a Shimano man and your sponsor is Diawia but I like both makers and I do use both
