Great question.. I don’t thin woodwork / trim paints for airless spraying.. I will cover this topic very soon on an upcoming video 👍 Certainly some manufacturers have more ‘sprayable’ products, equal to application with a brush / roller, and in my opinion BM is up there with how well products spray 👍 I’m not 100 percent familiar with Scuff X, but I hear many say it sprays lovely through .008” tips (FFLP 208, FFLP 308), at around 1200 psi.. Material thickness is not always an indication of flow / viscosity - I’d guess Scuff X will run freely and continuously off a paint stirring stick 🤔.. That’s a good question.. On the whole I didn’t like how it sprayed. Basically a bit ‘taily’ - I upped the orifice size, from a .008 to a .010, and still the same.. in the absence of a .012”, I tested with a .014” and again no better.. for me a .008” was my best choice to let out less material, otherwise like you say it could be prone to running.. and being an Alkyd, it takes ages to dry.. with me being a fan of low viscosity, spray only products I’m kind of used to not overly coating - because low viscosity, is so free flowing, you won’t get away with any more than 2 passes Vs this Alkyd, also making the paint ‘free flowing’.. I will make a future video, where I’ll try and share what I’ve learnt and basically it’s not a ‘one size fits all’ when approaching airless spraying.. I have to say the finish of Aqua Guard, is very very nice 👌 Just takes ages to dry ☹️ Regards Pete

Hello my friend.. the symptoms you describe, specifically ‘junk in the filter’, then being able to spray a couple of passes before stoping - suggests the tip is blocked.. if you remove the tip and tip guard, does paint spray through the line and gun?.. if the tip is blocked, try soaking in Pump Armour overnight and spray hot water (just hot from the tap), speed 10 with the tip in the ‘unblock’ position 👍 let me know how you get on my friend.. regards Pete 💙💯

@@PaintHQ Thank you so much for the feedback. I did try switching out the tips. But now I’m not completely sure I did. I will definitely try what you suggested. I really fell in love with the sprayer. I hope I can get it working again.

@AngieWilliamsDesigns You’re very welcome, and I’m sure you’ll get to the bottom of the problem.. I try to think logically and take a few steps back.. for example does water prime in the cup, then switching to spray (with tip / tip guard removed), does water exit the gun? If so, does the speed work 1-10.. if so, add a tip guard and tip and try a different tip, then does water pressurise and spray through the tip?.. I’m sure you’ll eliminate the ‘problem’ 👍💙💯 regards Pete

@@PaintHQ I was feeling so anxious last night and this morning fearing I had broke the gun. I just happened to get my new tips from Graco in the mail today. So before anything else I tried one of the new tips. I definitely made sure to strain the product. It worked perfectly fine. I feel so much better. I have the two tips I used yesterday in pump armor and will try them again tomorrow. Thank you for your help.

Hey buddy.. sounds a GXFF would be perfect - it lends itself to spray woodwork, with its hopper and small 3/16” 7.5mtr hose.. but is equally at home spraying emulsion 👍 I know of many GXFF owners spraying walks and ceilings, workings them pretty hard 💙💯 happy to help and advise if I can.. regards Pete

I can honestly say I’ve never had any issue with WP136 - it’s an acrylic base so has plenty of grip, - in my opinion it’s equal to any ‘adhesion primer’.. I actually feel the term adhesion primer is cleverly marketed off the back off traditional solvent primers / topcoat and those looking for new generation WB products to grip to old solvent 🤔 so yeah, I do very much rate AkzoNobel WP136 primer 👍 regards Pete 💙💯

Hey buddy, thanks for your question, I’m happy to help and advise any way I can 👍 a cordless unit is a great choice.. the GX21 and GXFF have the same ProXchange pump, whereas the GX21 has a bigger tip support (.021”) Vs a .019”, down to a difference is motor gearing.. out the 2 cordless designs I prefer the GXFF, for its hopper design, smaller more flexible 3/16” hose and the excellent Contractor PC Compact gun 👍 ..the GXFF is equally capable to spray woodwork and emulsion / walls / ceilings 👍 You’re right the 390 has a ‘bigger’ more robust pump, still a .021” tip support, but a stronger pump.. the 390 is capable, just like any airless to spray a fine finish - but if you’re spraying more woodwork (smaller quantities), it can be beneficial to add a hopper kit, and maybe a smaller 3/16” 7.5m hose.. it’s something I prefer, I myself add a hopper and the smaller more flexible hose to my machines 👍 ..Take a look at the GXFF Cordless, I think you’ll like the gun - but certainly look at the 390 cordless if you’re thinking of smaller more often, day after day 👍 ..Keep in touch.. regards Pete 💙💯

Great to hear from you my friend, sharing your thoughts on various points 👍🙏 ..The hopper kit does come with a lid that snaps on neatly 👍 A point I can share about the fan - it very rarely comes on, and I hear it’s not designed to cool the motor as such because the new XT motor runs more efficiently and cool. It comes on to cool the onboard circuit board / electronics, a bit like a fan cools the internals of a personal computer 👍 Keep in touch my friend, regards Pete 💙💯

Good question my friend.. Yeah the Ultra 495 XT ships with a 15m 1/4” hose, and yes it’s no problem at all to swap to a smaller more flexible hose, such as a 7.5m 3/16” 👍 Perfect for fine finish spraying smaller quantities, in conjunction with a hopper 👍 Regards Pete 💙💯

Yeah I just pop the tip I’ve just used in the cup, where a little pump armour sits in the bottom.. but equally if you’ve flushed through the tip (it’s clean), you could leave in the tip guard - perhaps twist it a quarter turn 👍 all the best my friend.. regards Pete 💙💯

Virosol is certainly a legitimate option to try - a similar ‘alternative’ that’s in the household degreaser category is Elbow Grease.. it’s a very inexpensive but somehow hugely effective degreaser / cleaner.. it’s awesome at lifting, cleaning, and flushing waterborne acrylics / vinyls.. I’ve never really looked into what’s in it that works so well, but it’s something I’ve always kept handy.. it’s worth a shot, starting with that 👍 don’t give up, I’m sure you can sort it 👍 let me know how you get on, I’ll also ask around for some guidance.. regards Pete 💙💯

I'll certainly look into that, I managed to tinker with it this evening and I think I got some virosol right through the pump and into the hose so I've just left it in the garage overnight. I'll let you know what happens. The real lesson I think will be to never lend my sprayers out again!! Cheers mate, all the best, Phil

An update on the virosol results. Worked a treat, I managed to flush everything through with hot water. Alot of skins flew out the end of the hose until the 3rd bucket was running lovely and clear. Not sure what the virosol did but the pump sounded so much sweeter than before aswell! If anyone has a similar problem, virosol is the answer!!
