Smashing vid Pete. I learned to plaster while i was qualifying as a decorator and honestly it was one of the best things i did. Both trades go hand in hand and it means i can get myself out of potentially tight spots by just bonding and skimming. I've tried these pre mixed skim fillers (toupret being the latest one) and i found they're very susceptible to air bubbling if you have to go over them a second time. I tried wetting up afterwards but found the filler didn't like that so much so the next time i try it, I'll probably water down the second pass and see if that makes a difference. I love trying new techniques and new products and if it works then win win i say. Also, like yourself im a fellow cack hander so if someone is teaching you to plaster, remember to do it all the other way around!
Thank you for sharing all your insights, very useful to hear.. In the P&D world, smoothing over larger areas, even window reveals and adding beads - all can be very useful, just like you say.. interesting also to hear your thoughts on the air bubbles, it does seem a ‘problem’ of ready mix, especially over previously emulsion / latex walks 🤔 Thanks again for your input, keep in touch my friend.. regards Pete 💙💯
@PaintHQ thanks for taking the time to respond Pete, I'll be giving the toupret another shot in the next week or two on a job so I'll adjust my technique and see if it's any better. I'll post back on here and let you know. Cheers, Phil
As novice DIYer can I use technique of skim coat t multi filler instead of traditional plastering as they are expensive to hire. Also what is the purpose of the fibre fleece on the new plasterboard I get on the solid wall was to level it to new plasterboard. Seems in Europe everyone skim coats w beissier and never plaster gyproc pink plaster like in uk, seems toupret gets superior results too. Thoughts?
@sanjirosanjiro6529 Hello my friend, apologies for the delayed reply - I will always get back to you, it’s a pleasure to hear from a DIYer.. Your thoughts are spot on 👍 I think the traditional plastering methods in the UK are very valid, the skills with a hawk and trowel working with finishing plaster is a skill I very much admire and don’t see those methods going away any time soon 👏👏 But as you notice, the European (and North American) method of using ready mix products, such as Beissier, and finishing drywall is becoming very popular in the UK - Plus it’s methods that P&D’s and DIYers can follow. So yeah, you’re very wise in noticing this emerging market.. As for the fleece, it was just ‘belt and braces’ for me - I think good on solid wall repairs / skim, good for ceilings to prevent future cracking.. but as you say, if boarding, taping and skimming walks, adding fibre fleece isn’t 100 percent necessary.. although it’s quite cost effective and easy to install 👍 hope this helps, keep in touch, I will always get back to you 🙏 regards Pete
Thank you buddy 🙏 be sure to let me know how you get on.. and if you get the opportunity, try Prestonett Multi Light - you’ll love it 💯 Great to hear from you my friend, regards Pete
The trim tex bead are great for corners the profile is thinner than standard metal bead which means you use less gear to fill them out. Plus any impact damage is normally just a quick fill To damaged area. A metal bead will buckle and will need cutting out and replacing. Great video as always
Thank you my friend, appreciate your insight on the Trim-Tex beads - never considered the advantages regarding impact damage 🤔👍👍 ..Thanks for your support buddy.. regards Pete 🙏
i would be interested to see more on your Dewalt sanding set up Pete as i'm torn between that and the Mirka system. I'll have to try the fleece out as well.
Hi Timothy, sure my friend 👍 it’s something I’d like to share information on - for example, I swapped out the hose that I found to be too ridged and not long enough for the flexibility I was looking for - basic for a cost effective generic replacement vacuum hose.. it working pretty well.. Whilst I’m not experienced with Mirka sanding solutions, there’s no doubting the quality and reputation they have in the dustless sanding world 👍 ..The fleece I can definitely recommend - I’ve been using it for a while now, from smaller remedial repairs to larger walls in need of adding strength.. I’ve linked to the fleece from Belmoretools in the video description, very cost effective for a decent sized roll 👌 all the best my friend, regards Pete 💙💯
@@PaintHQ - hi Pete, i look forward to learning more about the Dewalt . I have been trying some of this content on a live job and found it to be great. I haven't tried the fleece yet but have a wall area in mind to try it on. By the way- where do you get the Graco hoodies from??
Great video, as always. You should definitely mix your mud with a paddle attachment to smooth it out. Can even add a small amount of water. Especially when rolling it on.
Amazing Pete. I never thought it would be possible to achieve such good results with this method. I wonder what it would be like using a sprayable plaster and a Graco Pressurised hopper and the Gentilin? Cheers Buddy!
Hi Barry, thanks for watching my friend 🙏 That’s a good question.. Yes it would work very well - Same preliminary procedures in checking what you’re dealing with.. I’d look to safely send off a sample of the artex to test for asbestos (there’s online sampling kits).. Then check its sound and it’s not peeling off the underlying ceiling (you don’t want the weight of your skim pulling the artex away).. if it’s safe look to knock off the big peaks.. Then yeah, this process / system will work very well - especially incorporating the fibre fleece, it really helps strengthen and level off 👍 Take care buddy, a new long form video is planned very soon 🙏 regards Pete
Hey Phil.. Hope you’re keeping well 🙏 No, I actually think the opposite.. I believe the UK has an emerging market with airless spraying plaster, the speed and even coat you can achieve with airless application will grow in popularity in coming years - I see European methods of spraying plaster / using ready mix / sprayable products, like those Beissier are producing, gaining in popularity in the UK 💯 dare I say, even the P&D market 🤔 All the best my friend, keep up the excellent work ..regards Pete
Thank you Steve, your support is very much appreciated 🙏 Haha, my roots are firmly P&D and spray application 💙💯 It’s handy to have these products and tools ‘up your sleeve’ - the sanded smooth finish is mind blowing 👌 Hope you’re keeping well my friend, all the best.. regards Pete
Hey Wayne.. great to hear from you buddy, hope you’re keeping well .. Yeah I’ve used the 2” fibre fleece tape, great for reinforcing ceiling cracks (after the usual rake out etc) 👏👏👏 Keep in touch 💙💯 Regards Pete
Hi Dmitriy, I do believe it’s valid to use with traditional plastering methods.. it’s a good product, I’ve been using for while now in my P&D world.. all the best my friend, hope you’re keeping well 🙏 regards Pete
good afternoon, your videos are great, please tell me which model you can recommend for private work? ultra max gun or quickshot? and are there identical pumps?
Thank you for watching and your kind feedback.. if you have the extra funds available, I’d invest in the QuickShot, for its quick response innovative design electronic gun.. coupled with quicker setup and cleanup, it makes materiel changes quick and easy.. that said the Ultra Handheld’s are great, and could suit your requirements.. remember each option is for small projects - small runs of joinery and doors, small ceilings and feature walls 👍 The pump design is similar technology, the QuickShot is a reengineered design and now the Ultra Handheld’s come with a new and improved Triax II.. Hope this helps my friend.. keep in touch, regards Pete 💙💯
Tnx a lot ;) I hope that pump in quickshot is better (perhaps more durable). And which type and model tips recommended for primer paint and oil paint to use ? And which sprayer for little big projects and not to much expensive ?Tnx a lot 😊
I love that, been thinking about it since you uploaded this vid. I just ordered blade kit with couple of rollers and cant wait to give it a go. Can this be mist costed the "traditional" way with matt + water solution (or maybe pva?) or is it strictly dry wall primer? Thanks Pete
Thank you my friend for your feedback.. Sure, you can mist coat 👍 I prefer if using a mist coat, a mix using an acrylic based emulsion (Vs vinyl), but sure, you can mist coat as normal with a vinyl base product 👍 keep in touch, happy to help and advise if I can.. regards Pete
Good work Pete. Have you ever tried traditional plastering? I'm self taught & I'd highly recommend giving it a go, I find it quite therapeutic achieving a silky smooth flat finish 😊 It seems like it'd be much faster than this method, but both have their place & gotta find what works best for you 😊👍🏼
Hey Stuart, thank you so much 🙏 Some years ago now, I got shown how to use a hawk and trowel by a very good ‘old school’ plastering friend.. I was terrible 😩 ..I blame being left handed 😂 I’ve since preferred a mud pan and knife, plus ready mix products - yeah you’re right there’s a place for various applications, just like I admire those using a brush and oil based products, same as the really good plasterers who can eye up levels in a wall and trowel up razor sharp smooth walls 👏👏👏 Hope you’re keeping well my friend, great to hear from you.. regards Pete 💙💯
@@PaintHQ Two jobs I'd love to be capable of in life - bricklaying and plastering. I've given plastering a dabble but I'm completely useless. Just can't get the hang of it.
@BarryBulsara576 Hi Barry, thanks for your input.. I have to say using ready mix compounds by Beissier / Prestonett in conjunction with skimming blades certainly makes the smoothing process easier - plus it’s a system that some element of sanding is required, and the products sand extremely easy 👌 Thanks again my friend, all the best.. regards Pete
Hey Pete. That dewalt drywall sander is on my “to purchase” list. I have an evolution one but it is a bit cumbersome. For me the Festool and Mirka options are a bit too pricey for my usage. How is that dewalt machine? Thanks
Hey buddy, I too used an Evolution some years ago 😄 ..It was ok, but could scorch the wall if not careful.. The DeWALT is very very nice - I’m a fan of Cordless, although can appreciate there’s not too much of an advantage because you need to run a hose from the extractor.. I like how you can easily extend the reach with just a clip, and the head is pretty flexible (maybe not as flexible as the Mirka - their drywall sanders are known and perhaps lead the way on this).. on that note I cannot deny Mirka and Festool make very high performing sanders - but I do rate DeWALT and the Cordkess Drywall sander is up their with the best 👏👏👏 Thanks for watching the video, and your question.. keep in touch my friend ..regards Pete
Hi i recently purchased a graco 390 classic cordless and was wondering if i can use it with dulux undercoat oil-base? What you recommend? I have to use that undercoat instructed by head site office
Great news, you’ve invested in a very nice unit 💙⚡️ ..Sure, you can spray oil based, just check the cleaning product (most probably white spirit) and flush through small amounts of cleaning product to clean up the sprayer / line / gun and tip 👍 a hopper / Graco finishing kit could make spraying woodwork / trim paints and cleaning a little easier 👍 good luck my friend. keep in touch.. regards Pete
Hey buddy.. yeah you’re right, not essential on drywall - call it an extra layer of strength, and to give a really give a nice finish on feature areas.. definitely suited to solid wall repairs and ceilings to reinforce and hopefully prevent hairline cracking.. it was so easy to work with, I was impressed.. thank you for your input my friend 💙💯 Regards Pete
Hi Barry - That’s a very good question, and something I’ve wondered too - I’ll find out 👍 I don’t recall it being marketed as having thermal properties, but it is a fibreglass, very itchy just like fibreglass insulation roll.. Certainly for strength, and I’d think it would have some degree of thermal ‘improvement’ as I’m sure skim coat does.. all the best Barry.. regards Pete
Hi bud. New follower. We spoke a few weeks ago about kitchen unit finishes. Im currently doing this on my current job. But using Toupret joint and skim? How does it compare in your opinion and also would you recommend that tape over mesh taping ?cheers
Hi Kiran, great to hear from you again.. and thanks for the support 🙏 I’m not familiar with that particular Toupret product, so can’t make a direct comparison.. I can confirm the credentials behind Beissier, the company producing Prestonett products such as Prestonett Multi Light 👏👏👏 ..and Roller applying product is perfect for the P&D market, I do recommend trying it 💯 ..I do prefer a paper tape for jointing, Vs Scrim / mesh tape.. also the fibre fleece for large areas of repair, plus there’s a fibre roll (5cm in width) that’s great for crack repairs 👍 ..I believe I linked the products in the description.. take care my friend, always a pleasure to hear from you.. keep in touch.. regards Pete
Have a look at you my brother multi trader 🙏🏻💪🏻💪🏻 looks like a great drop of gear. Does the fleece have to be stuck on to a wet background or is it self adhesive
Haha 😂 Think I’ll pack it all in - see if I can get that vacant Liverpool FC Manager role, I fancy an easier job 🤣 - The fleece embeds and pushes into the first skim coat buddy, it’s not sticky at all.. in fact it’s itchy - its made of fibreglass fibres (for strength) - bit like loft insulation 👍 ..Have a great day my friend 🙏💙💯
Nice vid mate. Could you use standard rollers instead of those? As a diy’er it’s not always practical to get all the tools but saying that I seem to keep buying spray equipment 😂
Thank you my friend.. yes I’ve successfully used a heavy nap roller in the past, the sort used to coat heavy textured exterior render 👍 I know what you’re saying my friend.. it is great to hear from a DIYer 🙏 Thanks for reaching out 🙏 regards Pete
That’s a very good question Richard - day 4 and I was sanding and priming the wall - My opinion is it’s quick, Vs conventional plaster application drying times ..you get a reinforced wall using the fleece, plus a ‘level 5’ finish - it’s mind blowing how smooth you can sand Beissier / Prestonett products 👏👏👏 Regards Pete
@@PaintHQ you can put mesh in traditional plaster and have a job the size of what you’ve showed done in 2/3 hrs. Less disturbs to the customer and Waiting for it to dry doesn’t cost money. The finish will be the same coz you’ll still have to go though the right painting process. Just my thoughts on it 👍
Hi Richard, yeah I know what you’re saying.. These European / North American methods, incl spray plaster is a total contrast to UK ‘traditional’ methods of skim coating.. I do see the market growing though, the use of ready mix, and spray plastering large areas.. the area I was working on was larger than what was shown, rolling plaster can be tiresome😩 ..Thank you, really appreciate you sharing your thoughts 🙏 Keep in touch.. regards Pete
@@PaintHQ hi. For new builds and complete house overhauls I can see spray plastering definitely being quicker then traditional plastering. For smaller domestic jobs its not worth it, I don’t see. Everyone has there opinion 👍
The roller loosens fibers during the first uses; it's normal. It no longer loses any after 3 or 4 cleanings. It is therefore better to keep your roller for a long time rather than changing it regularly.
Great tip, thank you.. I also brush it and rough it up a bit before use, to dislodge as many of the loose fibres as possible.. bit like de-linting a new paint roller 😄
Top job mate. But as a traditional plasterer and experienced decorator. Seems a little pricey on materials and a long process. 1 bag of multi, roll of scrim and some skim beads would make a easier job. It will also be harder wearing than any filler/ drywall.
Thanks for the feedback 👏 Yeah I’d heard the same, (one of the advantages of converting to airless spraying plaster) - but I have to say, the shed was extremely low with the ones I used (could be the product / plaster 🤔) ..I’ll add links in the description once they’re available ..all the best buddy, regards Pete 🙏
@@PaintHQ no I was using the same as you had, same products… it wasn’t a load of hairs but enough to had to keep picking them out every time I use it 😀 great vid.

@@PaintHQ cheers bud. The finish looked Sharp 🙌🏽
@kcpainting_decorating_ltd Nice work buddy 👏👏👏
@@PaintHQ only advice I can give you is stay away from Liverpool it will ruin you 😂😂
@MEVD2011 🙈😄
Just out on interest, how long did it take to get to the primer stage?
You do well mate !!😊
Thank you for your kind words my friend 🙏💙💯
Ha ha ha ha! Literally a work of art!!!
Thank you kindly 🙏 Regards Pete 💙💯
The roller loosens fibers during the first uses; it's normal. It no longer loses any after 3 or 4 cleanings. It is therefore better to keep your roller for a long time rather than changing it regularly.
Great tip, thank you.. I also brush it and rough it up a bit before use, to dislodge as many of the loose fibres as possible.. bit like de-linting a new paint roller 😄
@@PaintHQ How did I not think of that? 🤣🤣🤣 Good idea 👍. Friendly
@Ali-Ali-G 🙏🤜🤛😄
Great job. These are all French products and tools ;). (except the straightener but the inventor is "L'outil Parfait")
Thank you my friend.. Yeah, L’outil Parfait.. market leaders in producing these type of tools 👏👏👏
Какая стоимость покраски у вас без упаковки?
A чё Пит должен говорить по-русски в Англии? Why would he speak russian?
@@PaintHQ I'm pretty sure he is asking for a quote... To paint without packing the wall (filling it in).
Now you close the circle of finisher.
From mud to paint.
I think only in Romania we do so many operations...
Goodluck man
That’s interesting to hear, thank you brother 🇷🇴💙💯
Top job mate. But as a traditional plasterer and experienced decorator. Seems a little pricey on materials and a long process. 1 bag of multi, roll of scrim and some skim beads would make a easier job. It will also be harder wearing than any filler/ drywall.
Thank you my friend.. appreciate your thoughts and sharing your experience 🙏 kind regards Pete
Respect 🇺🇸 super) 😊
Thank you brother 🇺🇸💙💯
I found those rollers release quite a lot of little hairs. Got a bit annoying.
@t.dizzle83 Ah I see 👍 Thank you my friend, really appreciate you watching and your support 🙏🙏🙏
Your mud is too thick. Add little bit of water and it will run smoother.
Thank you, I will take that point on board 🙏 I do see in the North American world of drywall finishing, mud being mixed and worked a bit thinner.. The Prestonett Multi Light, I was keen to work ‘straight out the bucket’.. You’re a diamond, appreciate your input.. regards Pete
Agree! Add a drop of water on opening!
