I bought this sprayer last week and undercoated and top coated skirtings in two two rooms in the Johnstons aquaguard. Walls snd ceilings i rolled out as normal. I love this sprayer. Literally took 5 mins to nip around and spray the skirtings
Great news, thanks for sharing your experience.. I’ve just tried Aqua Guard for the first time recently, also in the QuickShot.. I was impressed with the finish 👌 Keep in touch my friend 🙏 regards Pete 💙💯
What tip did you use? I tried spraying slightly thinned jonos aqua undercoat using the 408 that came with the quick shot and it wouldn't spray it for more than a couple of seconds. Not sure If it was a blockage, but the paint was strained into the cup first so shouldn't have been
@jossywilson did it keep losing pressure? Possibly paint too thick for the tip size. If I spray aqua guard I generally use a 210 or a 310 depending on what I'm spraying. Pressure at around 1200 psi and be sure to use the correct gun filter as too fine mesh will result in blockages. Did you strain your paint or bang it straight through the machine? Acrylic paints can have alot of dried paint in the can due to the way it cures. If you've never sprayed a certain paint before I recommend taping a wall off with paper or plastic and having a play around with different combinations of the above until you get it perfect. Also be careful with aqua guard as it can run like a greyhound on you.
@jossywilson If I recall, I sprayed the Aqua Guard Undercoat using an FF LP 208 - it was a fresh can, so a good stir and it sprayed pretty clean, perhaps the odd blockage.. Now I found the Aqua Guard Top Coat more problematic to spray (with the QuickShot) - with an .008 it remained a little ‘taily’ (no thinning, I really didn’t want to thin).. so I upped the tip size to a .010, still not great in my opinion, then as a test, a FF LP 514 - still not great.. now the finish was excellent, I was impressed 👌 I got results by using a FF LP 408 (around speed 7), but still tails - but the coat was good across the middle part of the fan.. so I sprayed the skirting, with the middle of the fan coating nice.. same with door frame.. then door, I got away with overlapping and covering the tails with each pass.. I loved the finish, but I feel Aqua Guard doesn’t like being sprayed 🤔 ..Regards Pete
Great Job Pete 👍 efficient, well organised & clean A great trusted system with a beautiful finish and not a brush in site 👍 definitely the way forward- well done love it
I came across your channel after falling down the rabbit hole of looking for a DIY/hobbyist sprayer for a wardrobe build I am starting. I am thoroughly enjoying your videos which I find informative, enjoyable and relaxing in equal measure 👏👏🖖 Subscribed and looking forward to watching more! :)
Hi Steven.. Really appreciate you watching and your very kind feedback.. Sounds an exciting project, I have the upmost respect for the DIY skills in carpentry and cabinet / furniture making - something I learnt a little about from my dad 😄 ..Keep in touch with how it goes, I’m happy to help and advise any way I can.. Thanks for the support 🙏 regards Pete 💙💯
Hi Pete, i have been following your channel for a while now. I am really impressed by your work and attention to detail. A must if you want to be top of decorating game. Please keep up the great work. I have bought a Graco GXff and completed a bungalow internal and externally. Your an inspiration Pete, thank you.
Hey Cliff, really appreciate you watching the videos and your very kind words of support.. Great news on your Graco GXFF investment, the GXFF is a favourite of mine 👏👏👏 Well done on completing your internal and external project 🙏 Keep in touch, I’m happy to help and advise any way I can.. regards Pete 💙💯
I’m laughing at the dramatic music playing during the room being painted. Of course…. I saw that as a compliment. I dont know if I would have already felt that feeling if I watched it without sound… but it perfectly matched my feeling as I watched you paint that wall and make it look so easy, effortless and quick. Amazing. That’s not just the tool at work… that’s a someone accomplished and knows what they are doing. Well done. I bought the Graco quick Shot this past week. Mostly for furniture and cabinets. But figured I would likely use it on more than that. When I saw the thumbnail for your video I thought you’d be using it for the whole video. I can see why you didn’t you would have had to do multiple refills and that would take longer. But for me… Since I will likely only be doing a room at a time and it would only be for my own home… I think the quick shot will do the job. Even with having to refill… I will still save time by using the spray gun. This was a great video! Only question… what’s the difference between the yellow and green tips? I know that the green ones are what I should be using. But was curious about the yellow ones.
Thank you for your kind feedback and words of support.. great news on your QuickShot investment, it sounds the perfect small job sprayer for your requirements 👏👏👏 with room spraying, I wouldn’t recommend working the QuickShot pump that hard unnecessarily - it really is designed for small projects and like in my scenario to ‘compliment’ a bigger spray unit.. The green tips signify FFLP (fine finish) for spraying woodwork.. The neon LP tips are low pressure tips for emulsion / latex paints on walls / ceilings 👍 (I believe you found my video that explains the difference - thank you for watching).. appreciate the support, I’m happy to help and advise if I can 🙏 regards Pete 💙💯
Hi Pete, great video as normal. What makes me happy is the fact that I do exactly what you do in the videos. Probably not as good as you, but it just works. I now need a 619 tip. 😂 Thanks for another lesson. Cheers Allan
Thank you Allan, very much appreciate your feedback.. I know of your work, trust me you’re doing great - you’re getting results and enjoying it my friend 👏👏👏💚💯
You’re so kind, that you 🙏 I don’t typically back roll.. only if I know further trades are following me and I fear I may need to touch up the paintwork.. a sprayed emulsion at the lowest pressure to effectively atomise the paint, with good technique / 50% overlap, produce a beautiful airless sprayed finish 👌 keep in touch.. regards Pete 💙💯
Hi Pete, I sprayed the internal walls of 20 shipping container office spaces using durable matt mixed to F&B wevet. The walls were studded, plasterboarded and plastered with the front doors of the container replaced with upvc glazed door and windows. I didn’t backroll and for some reason it dried to a satin sort of sheen. now any touch ups when rolled, dry to the matt finish it was supposed to be. Exact same product, Two different sheens. Technical said it’s a critical light issue but it deffo still makes me scratch my head.
Hey buddy, thanks for sharing your experience.. Yeah there is a difference between a spray finish and that of a roller - same product / sheen / finish as you say.. touch ups of a sprayed finish are historically always been problematic - especially in critical light.. a Handheld / QuickShot can be handy to fire over a small quantity to fix a snag.. if area is not in critical light, down low or up high, you could get away with a very fine touch up with a brush, a small sponge / very fine nap roller.. otherwise it could be wise to back roll after the 2nd coat / after last coat of emulsion - this will allow any touch ups to be corrected with a brush / roller 👍 hope this helps a little.. regards Pete
Did you stir all the paint up thoroughly before and throughout the spraying? Also was the sprayed paint thinned and are you touching up with a neat paint straight from the tin also is it from the bottom of a tin that hasn’t been stirred.
Great job Pete, you have a great system for sorting out those cracks,if there is a belly in the plaster where the crack is do you just feather it out with more filler or try to sand out the belly first?the room looks fab 👍
Hi Eddie, appreciate your feedback buddy.. I’ll sand the whole ceiling first, taking off the ridge / blown paint around the crack. Then any bigger discrepancies, get blended and feathered out 👍 Appreciate your support Eddie 🙏 regards Pete 💙💯
Hi Pete, without you doing a mist coat on the fresh plasterwork first, does the overlap from the woodwork paint you sprayed first not affect the adhesion of paint on the walls? Would it have been better to mist coat the walls first? You're still making the best tutorials btw
Hi Kevin, you raise a very good point and truthfully, you’re right - ‘text book’ process would be to prime / mist coat first.. However, the products I use on the woodwork being an acrylic base - especially the acrylic primer, the adhesion and ability to prime fresh plaster is also a very valid solution.. I have tested and historically I’ve never had a problem with the wall coating (again, that’s an acrylic - Johnstones Acrylic Durable Matt).. as a precaution, I do key up the ‘overspray’ first 👍 . On the subject of mist coat - I mixed an acrylic in this video, I also opt for an acrylic wall primer, either Tikkurila Optiva or recently I’ve had success with Joncryl 👍 Always a pleasure to get your input my friend, hope you’re keeping well 🙏 Thanks for the support.. regards Pete 💙💯
Hey buddy, yes if I’m spraying a number of internal joinery areas, especially with an acrylic that could ‘fog’ and create dust.. I use a small, air mover / extractor fan and extract outside using conduit.. I have a couple of size fans, the smaller one fits in a Systainer and is very effective for most projects.. if I recall I feature it in this video.. Graco UltraMAX Handheld. Airless Spray Tips For Trim and Walls th-cam.com/video/uQKV7scD0bQ/w-d-xo.html Regards Pete 💙💯
Sure 👌 if it’s fully cured and all was prepped / dust and contaminant free, yeah you can mask the next day.. I’ll use a premium washi, such as Kip or FrogTape yellow.. this is a short video I made.. Regards Pete Masking Tape Guide. The Best Tapes for Using an Airless Paint Sprayer th-cam.com/video/ktAcwPQwXY0/w-d-xo.html
Hi Pete, Great video👍 Thinking of buying my first sprayer. Will need it to do exterior rendering as well as interior work. Any idea of the ideal budget entry level sprayer?
Apologies my friend for the delayed response.. great news, you won’t look back.. entry level in the professional contractor market is the Graco GX range - distinct advantage is the ability to swap out the pump (when required) quickly, by yourself with little to no tools.. and it’s a cost effective replacement 👍 The GX range has various models, GXFF, GX21 and now the most cost effective solution, a GX19 (be aware in North America a GX19 is a GXFF in Europe).. take a look, a GX19 will certainly handle interiors, and exterior smooth masonry materials.. thicker masonry and more frequent jobs, look beyond the GX range, into the Graco Classic line of airless sprayers.. I’m happy to help and advise all I can.. regards Pete 💙💯
Hello, Pete! Nice job! Why don't you try using a 60cm spatula to putty joints 30-40cm wide? Yes it will require two hands, but it will be faster, smoother and more convenient, in my many years of experience. My regards!
A lot of work with the prep/protection but that finish is superb! In two minds to buy a quickshot for my own house but as I'm on the Makita platform (Plumber) it would mean the batteries laying dormant for lengthy times. Wish it was sold with different power options and without the batteries and charger.
Yeah it’s a very rewarding process, especially the finish that’s achieved on the woodwork 👌 I know what you’re saying regarding batteries - Dewalt was a good ‘partnership’ for Graco for their renowned battery quality.. I was a Milwaukee user (excellent quality), but converted over to Dewalt off the back of Graco 😄💙💯 Keep in touch, let me know how you get on 🙏 all the best my friend, regards Pete
@@PaintHQ Thanks for the reply Pete. I've been house bashing almost 30 years so although a Plumber by trade I'm more of a builder here in the UK these days. I do paint on the odd job for customers and even get my arm twisted to do exterior painting on the odd occasion. Made the mistake of buying a Wagner a few years back that simply wasn't beefy enough so been fixated by Graco since. This Quickshot has my attention but thinking an entry level A30 could also tick more boxes
@leerolfe5332 The GX range could be worth a look.. The Graco GX range is aimed at the professional P&D market - there’s a GX19 that’s just been added to the UK / Europe range (not go be confused with GX19 in North America).. it looks similar in siphon mode to the A30, but one distinct advantage, you can swap out the pump 👍 not sure on the GX19 pricing, I know it’s marketed at being affordable 👍 Regards Pete
@@PaintHQ that’s an amazing shout man! Just checked it out and seems to be a good option. I’ll couple that with a shorter hose for smaller work to limit paint waste. Thank you.
@leerolfe5332 Nice my friend.. yeah the ProXchange pump replacement is reassuring and cost effective.. good shout on a shorter, more manageable hose - I myself prefer a 7.5m 3/16” hose 👍
Thank you buddy, appreciate you watching.. Good question - The prep, is like for like in terms of comparing to a brush / roller.. Masking, it’s thought that it takes ages. I guess it’s like anything, with practice you get quicker.. But where you may loose a bit in ‘preparing to spray’ you gain back and then some spraying.. spraying trim / skirting / door frame / door - it takes very few minutes, and it’s far less laborious Vs a brush.. Same for ceiling, you do it last.. mask the perimeter and protect the walls - it’s very quick, then cross hatch the ceiling airless spraying, it’s unbelievably quick.. you’re simply not waiting for costs of paint to dry, where you would otherwise drag the paint with a roller.. But it’s the finish that wins you more work - the woodwork finish is cabinet like and the walls and ceiling are flawlessly smooth 👌 Thanks for your question, keep in touch.. regards Pete 💙💯
Nice job as always Pete. Would you always use these LP tips now for walls and ceilings? I purchased the Quickshot a while back (sold the Ultra) and it’s just a great bit of kit, use it where ever possible. Appreciate the videos.
Hey Steve, always a pleasure to hear from you buddy.. yes my friend, I use Graco LP tips for walls and ceilings 💙 Great news on your QuickShot investment, and great to get your feedback.. it certainly is awesome 👏👏👏 regards Pete
Hey Steve, the LP tips obviously run at lower pressure. This puts less strain/wear on your pump increasing longevity and less packing replacement on the bigger machines.
Smashing vid as always Pete, honestly i think your vids are the best instructional vids on YT. You have a really chilled vibe mate, you should think about teaching in college. By the way, what paint are you using there? I didn't recognise the tins but opacity and flow looked great.
You’re so kind, very much appreciate your support 🙏 I’m spraying AkzoNobel WB (1K) industrial coatings. Both primer and topcoat are low viscosity / spray only and really suit the new FFLP .006 tips (or a .008, just move a little quicker).. very cost effective too, from Holman Speciality Paints - They’re products I often use and I link to the exact products in most video descriptions.. if you check out.. How I Use The Ultra QuickShot and Stop Airless Sprayer Overspray th-cam.com/video/q54gOAGuOcY/w-d-xo.html Regards Pete 🙏💙💯
@@PaintHQ Thanks Pete. I will check that out, these new (sort of new anyway) FFLP tips are brilliant now for helping with overspray. When I started airless spraying around '09 we were using the big old guns and tips and the finish was nowhere near where I can get it now and the spits were often ridiculous! I'll definitely be ordering some of the akzonobel gear and giving that a try in the garage. Thanks for the info. Regards, Phil
I wouldn’t recommend the UQS for that size application, as a sole spraying unit.. I’d look at the GX range - GX19 (UK / Europe), GX21 or GXFF.. I’d personally go with the GXFF, it’s hopper feed design is like the ‘big brother’ to the UQS 👍 Regards Pete 💙💯
Hi Pete, thanks for all your hard work making these videos... I've been a p&d for 35years but new to spraying, I've only been spraying the odd big ceiling & doing OK with confidence building, I've got a couple big rooms soon in softsheen, ceiling and walls same colour, should I spray ceilings first then walls, or walls then ceiling? Also woodwork being done gloss so would you apply a grip primer after masking where gloss has gone on walls? Or a good rub down be sufficient? Thanks for your time and help.
Hello my friend, really appreciate your kind feedback.. it’s great to hear from a P&D with such experience 🙏 if you’re painting painting walls and ceiling in the same colour (colour drenching) - spray the ceiling in first, then walls.. just watch the perimeter / top of the wall that would inevitably get hit multiple times - if you don’t move the gun quick enough, you risk a heavier coat.. that’s perhaps my top tip with airless spraying - move relatively quick, you can’t comprehend how much paint is put out 👍 ..regarding the skirting / architrave / trim areas, a scuff over with a high grit / fine sandpaper is sufficient (plus a dust off) 👍 all the best buddy.. keep in touch 🙏 regards Pete 💙💯
@PaintHQ thank you for your quick response, yep been doing it a while, from 15 yrs old now 51. Yes i get exactly what you're saying & makes sense. Regarding the gloss on walls, just seems wrong emulsioning over gloss, but it will get well rubbed down, done over eggshell/ satin before, just not gloss. Thanks for your help, take care.
You’re very welcome my friend.. I appreciate hearing about someone’s ‘time served’ experience such as yours 👏👏👏 Yes I agree - I don’t recall the last time I used full gloss, in this video I used a satin / acrylic based enamel topcoat 👍 Yeah a good key up, I’ve never experienced any problems 🙏 keep in touch.. regards Pete
Hi Bro. How deep did you make the cuts in the fissures? Was it necessary to reinforce the studs with screws? Your work is sensational! I send you a hug.
Hey Enrique, thank you my brother.. yes, if there is movement in the board and you can find a stud, then definitely screw the board and see if you can get it to pull up 👍 I cut, not overly deep but enough to see the ‘fault’ and work the Flexible Crack Repair into the cut 👍 Thanks for your very kind, continued support 🙏 Regards Pete 💙💯
Thank you my friend.. I’m a fan of spraying, so all jobs I’ll spray internal joinery and ceilings.. Walls, I’ll weigh up if a spray finish will suit the project - in this case, nice skim finish to walls, the customer is a repeat customer, aware of my work and likes a sprayed finish, so yeah it was very nice job 👌 Regards Pete 🙏💙💯
Hello my friend.. it’s worth it as a precaution - nice 50% overlapping your passes should produce a perfect flat ceiling, whichever direction you spray.. but spraying across the window and the natural sunlight shining through, should help prevent any lap marks showing ‘if’ they were to be a problem 👍 Regards Pete 💙💯
Hi i have been using johnstones aqua guard undercoat and satin. I have a greco ultra max which iv brought second hand to give a try. 1. Do you think this would spray well? 2. Would it be ok to do as your video and spray skirting before walls, do u think the overspray would cause a problem with the paint being abit of a hybrid ( it im right in saying that). Great videos thank you 😊
Hello my friend.. Thank you for watching 🙏 I think you’ll get on well spraying AG - I’m not saying it sprays brilliantly / easily at low pressure, but it’s not bad 👏 I can’t say specifically with the UltraMax HH what the setting / tip will be, but if you check out this video, I spray AG in the QuickShot and it will give you a rough idea.. in my experience, the primer sprays better than the top coat 👍 Sure spray the skirting / woodwork first - the emulsion going over the top won’t cause you any problems.. just give the overspray’ area a quick sand / key (just as a precaution) 👍 Good luck, be sure to let me know how you get on.. Regards Pete 💙💯
Pete, why are you not using 3M Hand Masker? I'm sure you know about about, so why not use it? You are, essentially, doing 2x work when masking things off with the tape then with the paper.
Hey buddy.. that’s a very good observation and I get what you’re saying.. I’ve got two 3M Hand Maskers - and in years gone by I did use them, one for paper and one for film.. in more recent years I’ve found it easier to mask a line with tape first, in my opinion you have a bit more manoeuvrability to manipulate the tape - especially the sensitive run of purple washi, I never trusted a purple tape on the Hand Masker and it sticking to the film - I used to mask the sensitive / purple cut line then go over separately with the Hand Masker and a production tape over the purple 👍 just like I do now, but it’s easier to go round with a roll of film in your hand.. Hope that makes sense, but I do get your point, I’m not knocking the Hand Masker, the 3M model worked very well (especially with the straight cut attachment 👍).. keep in touch 🙏 regards Pete
Hi Lee.. I’m glad you’ve enquired about the respirator - it’s the first time I’ve worn this one in a video.. I got it off Amazon, I’ll post a link below - It’s a GVS SPR669 - A2P3 mask, so good level of protection against vapours and particles.. I looked into the brand, and the respirator is CE and UK CA marked.. normally I’ve gone for a 3M A2P3 half mask and I’ve been happy, I needed a replacement quick and this Amazon delivery was perfect 👍 hope this helps, regards Pete amzn.eu/d/70dKFvN
When youre masking up for your ceilings at the end of a project, do you let the ceiling paint come on to your wall to create a straight and sharp line? Whats the strategy when doing it.
Hey buddy, I think I know they you’re asking.. if it’s a perfect right angle / clean sharp skim / drywall finish between wall and ceiling, I can mask a very nice straight line.. but if it’s a bit ‘rougher’, you have to look at what you’re working with and pick your line (the ceiling in this video was a little like that.. the walls has a skim coat, but not the ceiling).. good thing is, wherever you place the tape, you will get a perfect line - easier in my opinion than manoeuvring the bristles of a brush. A strategy, just like cutting in with a brush is to very very slightly go onto the ceiling Vs seeing a white line on your wall colour - so if the line is tricky, go up on the ceiling with the tape a micro millimetre (equivalent to a single bristle width)👌 ..Is that what you meant by your question? Apologies if not 🙈 Happy to help if I can.. regards Pete 💙💯
No problem, that’s a good question.. purely for the orifice size (0.014”) giving less flow for a mist coat.. Vs a 0.015”, say an LP 515, not a lot in it really.. so not for the ‘fine finish’, an LP tip would be just as good 👌👏👏👏 Regards Pete
Hi what the paint for wood work ie manufacture & from where.. Why did you not use paper dry wall tape as this doesn't crack like the mesh tape.. Many thanks
Hello my friend.. Here’s the products I use a lot of for day to day internal joinery.. they are low viscosity, waterborne products.. spray very easily, no thinning at very low pressure ..being low viscosity, I use .008 or even .006 tips.. so a 208 / 308 or 206 (like in this video) WP 099 Water Based Primer / Edge Sealer holmanpaints.co.uk/interior-wood/171-akzo-nobel-WP136-highbuild-waterbased-primer-edge-sealer.html For the satin topcoat.. AkzoNobel Aqualit (Supercryl) Waterborne Enamel Topcoat holmanpaints.co.uk/interior-wood/169-akzo-nobel-aqualit-waterborne-enamel-topcoat.html ..you get a beautiful cabinet like satin finish ..and very cost effective, especially in 5 litre cans - if you order online, use code PAINTHQ for a discount 👍 hope this helps.. Regarding the tape, I hear what you’re saying I use traditional jointing tape for drywall / plaster board installs.. the tape in the video is a fibreglass “fibre tape”, incredibly thin that ‘melts’ and absorbs into the compound creating a strong fibreglass reinforcement 👍 Regards Pete 💙💯
Hey buddy.. sounds a GXFF would be perfect - it lends itself to spray woodwork, with its hopper and small 3/16” 7.5mtr hose.. but is equally at home spraying emulsion 👍 I know of many GXFF owners spraying walks and ceilings, workings them pretty hard 💙💯 happy to help and advise if I can.. regards Pete
Good question.. always start low and spray a test on a piece of brown paper masking - then increase by around 200 psi until you get a complete fan / distribution of paint across the middle and soft feathered edges (no tails).. you’re looking to spray at the lowest pressure to achieve the desired fan at approx 12” from the surface 👍 all the best my friend.. regards Pete 💙💯
Thanks for the feedback buddy.. the masking / spraying, allowing for drying is a 3 day process - woodwork - walls - ceiling ..then if I recall I spent 2 days on prep - sanding and fills on woodwork / door, caulking, general fills on walls and a skim round sockets, plus the ceiling crack repairs (as shown in the video).. hope this helps.. regards Pete 💙🙏
Hi Andrew, good question my friend 🙏 Touch ups of a sprayed finish to the walls can be tricky, especially where critical light shines across.. For that reason I don’t always opt for sprayed walls, and can equally choose a roller finish / back rolling.. what I always do, is spray all woodwork and ceilings on every job - you simply cannot beat the finish.. risk to the finish by following trades, is something I discuss with the customer, it can be fixed but I’d hope for extra care.. regards Pete
No my friend.. it’s a plastic backed absorbent fleece, specifically for protecting floors.. perfect for hard floors, but equally can be rolled out over carpet 👌 all the best my friend.. regards Pete
I only have a 'suck from the tin' style erbauer sprayer...is it possible to so small quantities of trim and doors with it? And would you do trim or walls first?
Hello my friend.. you may be able to swap out the hose to a small diameter and length, such as a 3/16" 4.5mtr or 7.5mtr Graco BlueMax hose - it’ll hold less paint, 0.081 - 0.134 litres in hose 👍 check if screw fitting is 1/4” NPS 👍 I would spray trim first.. hope this helps.. regards Pete 🙏💙💯
New subscriber here, love the content! I have 2 questions if you could kindly advise? Do you filter the paint before you use the Graco quick shot? (It's just I seen you pour it straight in) Also have you used Solvent based paint with it? If so what do you use to thin the oil base paint down with? Thank you Tys.
Hey Ty, appreciate the supper my friend.. I’m happy to help and advise I can 🙏 ..If I know the material is a quality paint, and it’s a new can I do t necessarily strain into the QuickShot.. if the can have been opened a few times and ‘snotty’ bits may have fell in, I will strain into the cup using Trimaco net paint strainers 👍 I don’t usually spray solvent / oil based, but I can vouch the QuickShot can handle it - if thinning is required, you use what the product data sheet recommends, possible a white / mineral spirit, or it could be Xylene based, you would need to check the recommendations 👍 Regards Pete 💙💯
Hey Kevin.. yeah I could have used the 619 for both, everywhere was masked up very well 👍 I opted for the 514 just to slow the flow a bit with the mist coat - didn’t want to saturate the walls, I waited an hour and sprayed the top coats.. just one thing I find with a 619 on walls - you have to watch and make sure you get in window reveals and corners of the room (where in my case was the built in wardrobes) and don’t leave any ‘ghosting’.. it’s not a problem, just worth watching out for and maybe spraying in a 3rd coat in them areas if needed 👍 hope you’re keeping well.. regards Pete 💙💯
@kevinpower4973 Yeah swapping a tip out is easy - then what I do is drop the tip in a paint scuttle filled with water, then flush the tip through at the end when cleaning 👍😄💙💯
Hey buddy.. It’s a FlexVolt 54v unit, so you pay a bit more, but you’re getting more power.. on that note, you could probably do with 3x 6Ah 54v or 2 of a higher AH batteries to get complete run time.. basically just need to manage the batteries.. I swapped out the hose on mine because the one you get, I felt it was not long enough and it’s very rigid to use.. I like how the filters will ‘flip’ automatically to keep them clean 👍 Suction power is good, it does dust extract with my tools, but it’s fair to say it’s not quite the suction power of its corded counterparts.. There is a couple of very good smaller options, Dewalt 18v cordless vacs (not dust extractors), that I plan to get myself - I’ve always found a cordless vac very handy to have on the job site 👍 Hope that helps a little my friend 🙏 Regards Pete
That’s a good question my friend 🙏 it’s much easier to mask the ceiling cut line and protect walls than if you was to try the other way round and mask the ceiling to spray walls (hope that makes sense) 👍 Regards Pete 💙💯
Hi, thanks for your question.. I’m spraying Johnstones Acrylic Durable Matt (White), sprays very nice with an LP 619 tip.. Whilst you don’t necessarily need a durable finish (ceiling is unlikely to get marked), I do like working with acrylic based emulsions 👍 Otherwise Johnstones Cova Plus is a vinyl matt that sprays very well, but maybe not as well as the acrylic (in my opinion).. other options that perform very well on ceilings that perhaps have imperfections, are Tikkurila AR2 and Teknos Teknoceiling - both produce a very flat matt white finish 👌 Hope this helps, regards Pete
Hi Joe, good question.. I’d spray the darker feature wall first (after the woodwork but first for the emulsions).. then mark each edge if the feature wall with the Kip sensitive / purple washi and 2 runs of the 30cm / 12” paper (so a 60cm / 24” width - to keep the lighter wall colour off the dark feature).. then last day mask the ceiling cut line as normal, protect all walls with 2.6m plastic and spray the ceiling in - the dark overspray colour on the ceiling will cover 👍 hope this helps.. regards Pete 🙏💙💯
You’re so kind, I appreciate you watching the videos.. no my friend, no added water / thinning ..I typically don’t thin when airless spraying.. sometimes a drop just to ease flow, especially if I was using a 515 and looking to lower the pressure a bit.. hope that helps, keep in touch.. regards Pete 💙💯
@astradamus7592 With fine finish airless spraying (woodwork / trim), using FFLP tips - I don’t thin the paint at all 👍 happy to help anytime my friend 💙💯
Hello my friend.. Here’s the products I use a lot of for day to day internal joinery.. they are low viscosity, waterborne products.. spray very easily, no thinning at very low pressure ..being low viscosity, I use .008 tips.. so a 208 / 308.. WP 099 Water Based Primer / Edge Sealer holmanpaints.co.uk/interior-wood/171-akzo-nobel-WP136-highbuild-waterbased-primer-edge-sealer.html For the satin topcoat.. Hey buddy.. no not really, time wise you get quicker with practice and cost - I simply add a ‘sundries’ item that covers masking, floor protection, caulk, fillers, abrasives, etc, etc 👍 it’s the finish you achieve that is mind blowing and wins repeat business 👌 all the best my friend.. regards Pete 💙💯
My apologies for the delay my friend .. the products and links to where I purchase can be found in the description to this video - including a PAINTHQ discount code 👍 my apologies once again, let me know how you get on.. I’ll always get back to you to help any way I can 👌 regards Pete 💙💯
Hi Craig, no my friend 🙏 No sanding after mist coat / top coats of emulsion.. I only sand / denib between joinery primer / top coats 👍 all the best.. regards Pete

Just to reassure, “Buy Me s Coffee” is a widely used, legitimate ‘social media’ tool 👍😄 keep in touch buddy.. regards Pete 💙💯
Hi Lewis.. no my friend - what you do is mask off / protect using the plastic film and when spraying you do quick trigger pulls to fire single shots of spray behind and around the radiator 👍 I did film it and hoped to demonstrate, but unfortunately it didn’t make the final edit 😄 ..I’ll see if I can put it into a future TH-cam short 👍 hope this helps.. regards Pete 💙💯
Hello my friend.. approx 1-2 hours between emulsion on the walls.. woodwork / trim is about 30 minutes to an hour, it dries very quickly and I circulate air with a DeWALT cordless fan 👍 take care buddy.. regards Pete 💙💯
@laurencecarr670 Hi Laurence, no thinning required for these products, they are low viscosity, spray only 👍 Yes I do believe WP136 has a code / name change, I think the AkzoNobel industrial range is aligning under Sikkens (an AkzoNobel company) 😄👍 All the best, happy to help if I can.. regards Pete 💙💯 Ps I link to the products in this video, plus a PaintHQ discount code 👍 How I Use The Ultra QuickShot and Stop Airless Sprayer Overspray th-cam.com/video/q54gOAGuOcY/w-d-xo.html
This is funny I have the ultra quick shot I do the same thing I spray the doors in baseboards, and I also have a 395 with smart controls and a hopper rig just like that I was hoping somebody would do a video like this.
Thank you my friend 🙏 My advise is to use LP tips, using just enough pressure to effectively atomise the paint (not too much pressure), then maintain 10-12” distance, overlapping passes by 50% maintaining a wet edge 👍 Plus I typically spray a matt finish / acrylic based emulsion / latex 👍 Hope this helps 💙💯 Regards Pete
Hi there guys 👋🏻 so I’m looking to buy a cordless sprayer, I’ll be using it for small jobs to big jobs ( big as a 2-3 bed I imagine) what’s your opinion, I’m thinking between GX21 -GXFF - 390 PC ….or maybe a combination between a QuickShot and a GX21? I’ve seen that 390 it’s the one that’s more durable and robust but doesn’t have the fini finish of a GXFF…. Super content by the way Pete 🫡
Hey buddy, thanks for your question, I’m happy to help and advise any way I can 👍 a cordless unit is a great choice.. the GX21 and GXFF have the same ProXchange pump, whereas the GX21 has a bigger tip support (.021”) Vs a .019”, down to a difference is motor gearing.. out the 2 cordless designs I prefer the GXFF, for its hopper design, smaller more flexible 3/16” hose and the excellent Contractor PC Compact gun 👍 ..the GXFF is equally capable to spray woodwork and emulsion / walls / ceilings 👍 You’re right the 390 has a ‘bigger’ more robust pump, still a .021” tip support, but a stronger pump.. the 390 is capable, just like any airless to spray a fine finish - but if you’re spraying more woodwork (smaller quantities), it can be beneficial to add a hopper kit, and maybe a smaller 3/16” 7.5m hose.. it’s something I prefer, I myself add a hopper and the smaller more flexible hose to my machines 👍 ..Take a look at the GXFF Cordless, I think you’ll like the gun - but certainly look at the 390 cordless if you’re thinking of smaller more often, day after day 👍 ..Keep in touch.. regards Pete 💙💯
@@PaintHQ thanks Pete 🫡 really appreciate the breakdown you gave to each of the sprayers, I also had the occasion to see and try a GXFf the other day and I was really pleased with it’s manoeuvrability and finish so I order one 😬 can’t wait for it to arrive 🤞🏻🕺🏻 I have another question if you don’t mind , I’ve seen you’re using now Kip masking tape instead of tesa , would you say it’s easier and practical? maybe a bit better ? Thanks again Pete , keep posting this videos full of great information 👏🏻🫵🏻💪🏻
Hi Carlos.. It’s a FlexVolt 54v unit, so you pay a bit more, but you’re getting more power.. on that note, you could probably do with 3x 6Ah 54v or 2 of a higher AH batteries to get complete run time (and a DeWALT fast charger).. basically just need to manage the batteries.. There is a couple of very good smaller options, Dewalt 18v cordless vacs (not dust extractors), that I plan to get one myself - I’ve always found a cordless vac very handy to have on the job site 👍 Hope that helps a little my friend 🙏 Regards Pete
That looks more like a hobby. Don’t know about your region, but around here nobody will pay for three days for an empty small room. If you don’t get that room done in one day, you won’t make it. Air fans and heat guns are the most important in painting if you want to make it in competition.
Appreciate your insight my friend.. In this region, no credible professional painter is completing a room in one day.. one day minimum is spent on the room preparation - then depending on your order / ‘system’ a day each for spraying woodwork (primer / topcoat), then walls, and finally ceiling.. sometimes it is possible to spray ceiling and woodwork one day, then cut in and roll the walls.. ‘house bashing’ is a slang term here, used for those in the market to complete rooms in one day or full houses as quick as possible 😄 Great to hear from you my friend, regards Pete 💙💯
The fella spraying is this video is working top end his path won’t cross with yours if your knocking out a room in one day horses for courses I guess I’m still processing who would pay and expect a room to be completed in one day I can’t imagine they expect any sort of quality
@@MEVD2011 every job has a budget, spraining is a custom job that in this economy not many can afford. A small room is cut and roll one day job, specially summer time. If you’re doing it, someone else will do it. You can mask and spray a level five finish , don’t think repainting will make much difference, specially if you’re not power sanding old brush marks and roller texture.
@@Igor-q3flike I said horses for courses you’ve just drawn a comparison between what different customers can afford but your previous comment indicated that intentionally or not that spray finishing a room over three days was shear folly because it can be done in a day and if you do the later your not competitive there are different levels to every thing I agree that geography and customer base play a big part in what you can charge but take it from me some customers pay for quality and some pay for a quick tidy job the standards are set but the outcomes are tailored to individual requirements but that being said there’s a place for both and a requirement for tradesmen to fulfil the customer needs
@@Igor-q3fI would also point out that spraying alternatively can be used for speed as a primary benefit over finish this video shows one room being sprayed but I know two or three rooms being done at the same time can be completed in the same time frame volume is the key to spraying example I’m sure you could paint 4 doors first coat while I’m still setting mine up 30mins later after your done I’ve sprayed mine you go back for your second coat let’s say it takes you 30mins I’ve done mine in 2mins same for 3rd coat now times that by 18 doors it’s a no brain’er
Loving your attention to detail, Pete. Your videos are invaluable. Efficiency and cleanliness at its best. Thanks for making painting a breeze.
You’re very kind, thank you.. appreciate you watching and reaching out 🙏 Regards Pete 💙💯
So entertaining to watch a true master at work... Thanks for sharing your top notch skills, tips and talents!
You’re so kind, thank you and thanks for watching 🙏 Regards Pete 💙💯
@AspireDecorating Thanks for your input my friend, and sharing your experience 🙏💙💯

Painting just got difficult....
I came across your channel after falling down the rabbit hole of looking for a DIY/hobbyist sprayer for a wardrobe build I am starting.
I am thoroughly enjoying your videos which I find informative, enjoyable and relaxing in equal measure 👏👏🖖
Subscribed and looking forward to watching more! :)

Thanks for another lesson.
Cheers Allan
Thank you Allan, very much appreciate your feedback.. I know of your work, trust me you’re doing great - you’re getting results and enjoying it my friend 👏👏👏💚💯
Love the video and watching for a second time. When would you back roll something like this job?
Then any bigger discrepancies, get blended and feathered out 👍 Appreciate your support Eddie 🙏 regards Pete 💙💯
wow this is the best video i have ever seen about spraying keep going!!
Thank you so much, I appreciate the support 💙💯 Regards Pete
Great job awesome tutorial Pete.👍👍
You’re so kind, thank you my friend.. regards Pete 💙💯
Impressive stuff. Keep up the good work my friend! 👏
thank you for your sharing and your detailed explanations
You’re very welcome my friend 🙏💙💯
Thanks Pete appreciate the reply 👍
Great video… look forward to the next 💙🙌🏼

Hi Pete,
Super job, do you use an extractor to help remove any overspray? Been looking at a getting a maxvac

So you can mask on gloss/satin the next day without the tape removing chunks of paint?

Hi Pete, Great video👍 Thinking of buying my first sprayer. Will need it to do exterior rendering as well as interior work. Any idea of the ideal budget entry level sprayer?
Apologies my friend for the delayed response.. great news, you won’t look back.. entry level in the professional contractor market is the Graco GX range - distinct advantage is the ability to swap out the pump (when required) quickly, by yourself with little to no tools.. and it’s a cost effective replacement 👍 The GX range has various models, GXFF, GX21 and now the most cost effective solution, a GX19 (be aware in North America a GX19 is a GXFF in Europe).. take a look, a GX19 will certainly handle interiors, and exterior smooth masonry materials.. thicker masonry and more frequent jobs, look
beyond the GX range, into the Graco Classic line of airless sprayers..
My regards!
Hey buddy.. Sounds great, I really appreciate you sharing your experience.. I’ll try that 👍🙏 ..Regards Pete 💙💯
Lovely job! Im intrigued to know how long this job took including all the prep and masking up?
@@mooganoid Appreciate the input, thanks

Would the Graco Quickshot be ok if I’m only going to get one sprayer? Will be painting the interior of my house, but room-by-room over time.
Brilliant video. How do you weight up spraying vs brush/roller on jobs like this?
Thank you my friend.. I’m a fan of spraying, so all jobs I’ll spray internal joinery and ceilings.. Walls, I’ll weigh up if a spray finish will suit the project - in this case, nice skim finish to walls, the customer is a repeat customer, aware of my work and likes a sprayed finish, so yeah it was very nice job 👌 Regards Pete 🙏💙💯
So final spary on ceiling should be perpendicular to the natural sunlight?
Hi Pete top notch job I'm lookin to get a new resperater wot would u recommend 👍
Hi Lee.. I’m glad you’ve enquired about the respirator - it’s the first time I’ve worn this one in a video.. I got it off Amazon, I’ll post a link below - It’s a
GVS SPR669 - A2P3 mask, so good level of protection against vapours and particles.. I looked into the brand, and the respirator is CE and UK CA marked.. normally I’ve gone for a 3M A2P3 half mask and I’ve been happy, I needed a replacement quick and this Amazon delivery was perfect 👍 hope this helps, regards Pete

Why use a fine finish tip on walls? Honestly curious
Here’s the products I use a lot of for day to day internal joinery.. they are low viscosity, waterborne products.. spray very easily, no thinning at very low pressure ..being low viscosity, I use .008 or even .006 tips.. so a 208 / 308 or 206 (like in this video)
WP 099 Water Based Primer / Edge Sealer
holmanpaints.co.uk/interior-wood/171-akzo-nobel-WP136-highbuild-waterbased-primer-edge-sealer.html
For the satin topcoat.. AkzoNobel Aqualit (Supercryl) Waterborne Enamel Topcoat
holmanpaints.co.uk/interior-wood/169-akzo-nobel-aqualit-waterborne-enamel-topcoat.html
..you get a beautiful cabinet like satin finish ..and very cost effective, especially in 5 litre cans - if you order online, use code PAINTHQ for a discount 👍 hope this helps..
Regarding the tape, I hear what you’re saying I use traditional jointing tape for drywall / plaster board installs.. the tape in the video is a fibreglass “fibre tape”, incredibly thin that ‘melts’ and absorbs into the compound creating a strong fibreglass reinforcement 👍

Grate job Pete, could you told me please , wich graco i can use for wood work and sometimes walls, ceiling.
Thanks
Hey buddy.. sounds a GXFF would be perfect - it lends itself to spray woodwork, with its hopper and small 3/16” 7.5mtr hose.. but is equally at home spraying emulsion 👍 I know of many GXFF owners spraying walks and ceilings, workings them pretty hard 💙💯 happy to help and advise if I can.. regards Pete
@@PaintHQ Thanks mate 🙏
how do you work out what psi to use
Good question.. always start low and spray a test on a piece of brown paper masking - then increase by around 200 psi until you get a complete fan / distribution of paint across the middle and soft feathered edges (no tails).. you’re looking to spray at the lowest pressure to achieve the desired fan at approx 12” from the surface 👍 all the best my friend.. regards Pete 💙💯
Great Job!
Out of curiosity how much time did it take you to do that room?
Thanks for the feedback buddy.. the masking / spraying, allowing for drying is a 3 day process - woodwork - walls - ceiling ..then if I recall I spent 2 days on prep - sanding and fills on woodwork / door, caulking, general fills on walls and a skim round sockets, plus the ceiling crack repairs (as shown in the video).. hope this helps.. regards Pete 💙🙏
What happens when you’ve got carpet fitters coming a few days later and mark walls and skirting how do you touch it up?
Hi Andrew, good question my friend 🙏 Touch ups of a sprayed finish to the walls can be tricky, especially where critical light shines across.. For that reason I don’t always opt for sprayed walls, and can equally choose a roller finish / back rolling.. what I always do, is spray all woodwork and ceilings on every job - you simply cannot beat the finish.. risk to the finish by following trades, is something I discuss with the customer, it can be fixed but I’d hope for extra care.. regards Pete
Is that carpet underlay used as a drop sheets?
No my friend.. it’s a plastic backed absorbent fleece, specifically for protecting floors.. perfect for hard floors, but equally can be rolled out over carpet 👌 all the best my friend.. regards Pete
i only use blue tejp on masking trims
Thanks for sharing my friend 🙏💙💯 Regards Pete
(It's just I seen you pour it straight in)
Also have you used Solvent based paint with it? If so what do you use to thin the oil base paint down with?
Thank you
Tys.

How many coats did you spray for walls and ceiling?
After priming the bare plaster, I sprayed 2 finish coats my friend 👍 regards Pete
Hi Pete, why did you use a 514 for the walls and a 619 for the ceiling? Could you have just used a 619 for both? Thanks.
Hey Kevin.. yeah I could have used the 619 for both, everywhere was masked up very well 👍 I opted for the 514 just to slow the flow a bit with the mist coat - didn’t want to saturate the walls, I waited an hour and sprayed the top coats.. just one thing I find with a 619 on walls - you have to watch and make sure you get in window reveals and corners of the room (where in my case was the built in wardrobes) and don’t leave any ‘ghosting’.. it’s not a problem, just worth watching out for and maybe spraying in a 3rd coat in them areas if needed 👍 hope you’re keeping well.. regards Pete 💙💯
@@PaintHQ makes sense - 619 flow might be a bit heavy for those reveals and gaps and I suppose it’s really easy to switch the tips. Nice one Pete 👍
@kevinpower4973 Yeah swapping a tip out is easy - then what I do is drop the tip in a paint scuttle filled with water, then flush the tip through at the end when cleaning 👍😄💙💯
Pete quick question off subject
What masonry paint would you spray for exterior walls ?
PPG Johnstones Stormshield performs and sprays very nice through a LP 515 👏👏👏 All the best my friend.. Pete 💙💯
Top guy 👌

Hi Pete, great job! How good is the DeWalt Hoover you was using mate looking for a battery one for myself 👍
Cheers Pete, that's really cool. Thank you for the information, that's awesome. Cheers mate

thanks for the video. but how do you deal with all the paint dust? just bought a graco x5 and I'm seeing dust even in other rooms :S
Why this order of operation when spraying with ceiling last? I'm not questioning it, I just want to learn the answer.
That’s a good question my friend 🙏 it’s much easier to mask the ceiling cut line and protect walls than if you was to try the other way round and mask the ceiling to spray walls (hope that makes sense) 👍 Regards Pete 💙💯
@@PaintHQ Makes perfect sense! 👍🏼
Don´t you think that whith a brush and roller, you would finish sooner and cheaper????😄
Greetings from Barcelona(SPAIN).
Amazing video.
Hi can i ask what white ceiling paint you was using? Plus when your finished do you recommend to remove tape while paint is still wet? Thanks
@@PaintHQ thank you so much for your reply. I do use Tikkurila for ceilings and love the finish. With regards to the tape removal?
@nataliehayden8330 Sorry, yes remove when the paint is still wet 👍
if the room has one, darker 'feature wall', at what point in the process would you spray the feature wall?
Hi Joe, good question.. I’d spray the darker feature wall first (after the woodwork but first for the emulsions).. then mark each edge if the feature wall with the Kip sensitive / purple washi and 2 runs of the 30cm / 12” paper (so a 60cm / 24” width - to keep the lighter wall colour off the dark feature).. then last day mask the ceiling cut line as normal, protect all walls with 2.6m plastic and spray the ceiling in - the dark overspray colour on the ceiling will cover 👍 hope this helps.. regards Pete 🙏💙💯
@@PaintHQ thank you Pete, really appreciate you taking the time to respond

Hi Pete. Love your videos.
Question, When you use dhe 517 and the 619. Do you mix the paint with water? Thank you in advance.

Great video, how do you spray finish walls no lines bro from spraying?

@@PaintHQ thanks Pete 🫡 really appreciate the breakdown you gave to each of the sprayers, I also had the occasion to see and try a GXFf the other day and I was really pleased with it’s manoeuvrability and finish so I order one 😬 can’t wait for it to arrive 🤞🏻🕺🏻
I have another question if you don’t mind , I’ve seen you’re using now Kip masking tape instead of tesa , would you say it’s easier and practical? maybe a bit better ?

How much do people pay you to do that kind of work
😍👍💙💙💙💙
Merci beaucoup mon ami 🇫🇷💙💯
Thanks
