I'm drywall finisher and interior painter with years of experience in high-end jobs and I can tell you this is the best video about how to set up and clean an airless sprayer ever uploaded on TH-cam. Such a good job, Pete! 👏 This channel will "explode" if you make videos more often. Many regards from New York City! 🤙
You’re so kind, thank you my friend 💙 Let me say, I’m inspired by the drywall finishing techniques from the US and North America 👏 I’m sure your work is leading the way in NYC 🇺🇸💙💯 Thanks for your kind words 🙏 Regards Pete
I know very little about sprayers but your videos give excellent straight forward explanations. Your idea of spraying water for beginers is an idea I wouldnt have thought of. Excellent work, I greatly appreciate the time you take to create these. Cheers
Thank you for your kind words of support - I appreciate you watching my videos and providing your feedback 💙💯 always feel free to reach out if I can offer any help or advice 🙏 regards Pete
Thanks. Learned a lot with your videos. The best lesson here was to try your material without thinning. Didn’t expect this with the thickness of the paint.
Thank you my friend, very much appreciated 💙💯 I don’t thin woodwork / interior or exterior paints when airless spraying 👍 Always test first, and look to spray at the lowest possible pressure, whilst effectively atomising the paint 👌 Always happy to help and advise if I can.. keep in touch, regards Pete 💙💯
Thank you Eddie 🙏 Yeah I hope it motivates and reassures it’s not so daunting to get started 😄 The Ultra XT range is a joy to operate, really is an innovative feet of engineering 💙💯 Hope you’re keeping well, great to hear from you.. regards Pete
Sure the principal of priming an airless pump and spraying is transferable across all airless paint sprayers 👍 Thank you my friend, appreciate you watching 🙏 Regards Pete 💙💯
Great to hear from you buddy, as always I appreciate your feedback.. Hope you’re keeping well, and get to have plenty of trips to Old Trafford this season 🔱👹
@@PaintHQ All is well here Pete, hope you're keeping busy! Getting a few trips in to Old Trafford in the near future, hopefully the football improves a bit!
Hi Pete, smear silicone grease on all O rings and threads - it will keep the threads clear and enable easier recovery of those filters, particularly with a 2-pack product. Isopropyl alcohol or, for more severe cleaning, acetone. These are cheap and will keep everything clean. Final clean - filters out and flush/fill with pump armour. Small areas like this - HVLP? Much less wastage particularly if the material is a very expensive 2-pack. I love paint spraying, but the prep, masking and cleaning is not for everyone!
Breathing protection is often overlooked but another one that is always overlooked is hand protection. When I happen to have a quiet period from paint or rough work, my hands stop being velcro pads when everything just gets caught when I touch it and my wife stops hating me giving her shoulder rub... Protect your hands people!😉
Thank you Pete; going up the orifice size, explains some issues I was having with some Trim Paint. Also why do you not recommend putting the gun in water?
You’re very welcome, I’m so glad you found the video useful 🙏💙💯 Overly soaking in water could cause needle packings to swell - I’m not saying that would happen, I’m sure there’s plenty do this with no problem, it’s just not good practice in my opinion.. it’s fine if you’re working with a gun extension 👍 All the best my friend.. Regards Pete 💙💯
Excellent demonstration. I recently bought an airless sprayer and got into a roblem. The hose inlet connection to the spray gun has two nuts, one of which can be tightened but the other seems to be turning free. Do you know if this is meant to be free so that the spray gun can swivel freely with the wrist or there's something wrong?
Another classic well constructed informative video my friend always wondered when you re introduced pump armour after clean out for the purpose of storage do you need to fill the hose and extract from the gun or is it just pump and prime tube that requires this 👍🏻
Thank you buddy, always great to get your feedback.. Yeah Pump Armour after cleaning - I only prime the pump and not circulate the hose (although if you’re in freezing conditions, you’d need to protect the water in the hose from freezing).. although in the video I found Pump Armour in the hose 😄 I must of circulated some older diluted Pump Armour to give everything a good flush and clean out (to look after my new Ultra XT 💙).. I don’t recall what I was spraying, maybe an Alkyd 🤔 Speak soon my friend 🙏 Regards Pete
Thank you Phil, hope you’re keeping well my friend.. The Contractor Compact PC is my favourite ‘mechanical gun’, a genius design.. I say ‘mechanical’ because new electronic contractor technology is coming to the market soon.. That will pair nicely if you were to invest in an Ultra XT 😉 All the best buddy.. regards Pete 💙💯
We have a Wagner 350m and it’s great for our home renovation. However it doesn’t have the psi setting for granular testing, just a basic dial. Is a pressure gauge something we can add (or even needed)? Also can we use Graco tips alone or do we need to change the whole gun assembly? Thanks for the videos as always.
Great to hear you’re having success with your home renovation 👏👌👍 ..I know the model and dial that you refer to - unfortunately those models are not a standard 1/4” hose fitting, it’s a proprietary size, so a pressure gauge wouldn’t be able to be retro fitted.. no problem though, not 100 per cent needed (just helps to know where you’re at).. just as with all airless paint sprayer setup - always testing on scrap paper first, start low and in increments increase the setting until the tails are gone and the fan pattern is complete 👍 ..Now the Graco tips can be used 💙 The gun / tip guard is a standard 7/8” thread, you just need a Graco 7/8” RAC X tip guard and you can use Graco low pressure LP and fine finish FF LP tips 👍💙💯 keep in touch, regards Pete
@@PaintHQthank you. 😊 I’ll certainly give those tips and guard a try. The supplied 517 needs a lot of pressure for a nice pattern, but suffers overspray and bounce back making a real mess of the gun and especially the guard. The supplied hose is very hard to work with and want to coil back up, even though I take care ensure no kinks when starting. I don’t see any such issues with your clean set up.
Another spot on video pete as always when the pump is fast flush it sounds like it pulsates my 440 impact does it as well but it takes a bit more water or maybe that's me being overkill it wouldn't suprise me at all mate how do you rate the XT pete
Hey John, thank you my friend.. The Ultra XT TurboClean mode is remarkably fast and uses less water 👌 It creates turbulence if that’s the right description to flush through the pump and airless hose faster than its predecessor (Graco Fast Flush).. It’s a great airless spraying experience with the Ultra XT models 💙💯 Hope you’re keeping well my friend, always great to hear from you and get your feedback 🙏 Regards Pete
Thank you, appreciate you watching and your continued support.. Do you mean the Trimaco ones?.. it’s been a while since I brought a box, so don’t recall.. what I do when I use them, is wash them out.. either wash them out straight the way, or wrap in plastic and rinse them later.. they clean up really easy and you can re-use many times over 👌👍😄 ..Regards Pete
Hey Pete, great seeing all the positive comments for you. I've watched your videos since you started, and they're getting better all the time. I'm assuming some collaboration with the excellent people at Sprayman. Somebody beat me to it, but it's "the" best video for setup on TH-cam, and I'm on it a lot! Definitely improving all the time, and theirs something nice about following a chanel from the beginning and watching it grow. Spraying is clearly getting more popular, and the next generation of painters will surely be trained as part of their apprenticeship? That said, as with all trades, theirs your "crack on with it" and the rare, "I want to be the best at it" Keep it coming pal, my appetite for spraying videos is possibly borderline nutcase 😜 but who doesn't appreciate someone good at their job! I have one question. I am a former painter from many moons ago, and I wondered what is the procedure, as I'm sure their is one, for disposal? Old tins we left to dry, and brush/roller washed in the sink. When you have a half bucket of paint, water, and pump armour, what are you to do?
Ah hello my friend, it’s great to hear from you. Yes I do remember your support from the very beginning - specifically recall you being a former painter and now an avid DIYer using a GX (if I remember correctly).. I’m humbled that you’ve continued to follow the channel 🙏🫡 ..I consider the team at SpraymanUK as friends, and often reach out for a chat and advise - my background is IT, so picking the brains of engineers is fascinating.. similar analytical approach but different mindset if that makes sense 🤔 Good question on disposal.. local authorities have differing procedures on what they’ll accept (and not).. one piece of advise I was given, and I hear others adopting this approach is to use a cheap cat litter to solidify paints and liquids - the dry paint and waste can then by bagged up and binned, with the empties (possibly) being able to be recycled - again I hear of some councils accepting empty cans, even with dried paint residue and others not.. Thank you once again for your kind words and support over the years 🙏 Keep in touch.. Regards Pete 💙💯
Very good question 👍 it’s simply, a compressor is using lots of air to pass through an air cap and break up / atomise the paint.. then airless is ‘no air’, but much much higher pressure to force through paint a small orifice and break up / atomise paint.. This video, especially the opening section will highlight efficiencies and lack of efficiency with each.. take a look, let me know what you think.. Air Assisted Airless Explained. Apologies for my delayed reply.. that’s a good observation 👍 Spraying a wider fan requires a wider fan width tip.. so in this video, it was a 210 (4” fan) - depending on the application / product being sprayed, you could use a 410 (8” fan) or a 515 / 517 (thicker latex paint), that will produce a 10” fan width 👍 This PaintHQ video might help understand tip sizing..
