    I’ve been using the ff tips for a few years without a pressure gauge. I turn the airless up until the fingers disappear and then turn it up just a tad more to break the paint up a little more. I use the 208 on metal door jams.

    Love your videos Pete. Very informative and entertaining. The lower tip size needing more pressure to eliminate tails always baffles me. My logic is smaller orifice, less pressure. Good lesson. Thanks

      You’re so kind, really appreciate the feedback.. More pressure, especially with a .006” Vs .008” because you’re forcing paint particles / pigments through an orifice size approx half the size of a human hair 👍😄 Really appreciate the support, keep in touch.. regards Pete

    Great video Pete thank you.
    If you were to do this using the little Graco quick shot would you still use the 106 tip or 208?
    Thanks again 🙂

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question 👍 the UQS minimum tip support is .008, however with the right low viscosity / spray only product, a 106 works very well as long as you don’t over-pressurise - a 208 also works extremely well and is ‘easier’ to use (no risk of over-pressurising, a .006 tip requires more pressure).. so I personally would use either, otherwise go with a 208, it’s a great tip 👍👍👍 Regards Pete

    Hi Pete, watch a couple of your vids. Amazing!
    What I do not fully understand, instead of increasing the pressure on the 106 tip, would it not be possible to thin down the paint?
    I am thinking about buying a new tip - but as hobby, my budget is somewho limited - i can't get a 106, 108, 110 etc...

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey buddy, thank you for watching my videos 🙏 you’re spot on in your thinking.. although a 106 (.006”) is for very low viscosity paint and still you’re forcing material through something less the size of a human hair 👍 a 108 can be a little hard to control.. to buy one tip for small work and be more controlled, I’d probably go with a 208 - yes a wider fan (4”), the wider overspray is worth the compromise (unless the low viscosity material really will go through a 106, without tip blockage, it’s difficult to say without testing).. hope this helps my friend.. regards Pete 💙💯

    This was helpful. As I said in other comments… I primarily will be painting furniture. I think the 106 or 108 will be the perfect tip when painting stiles and rails on dressers and thinner legs on nightstands and end tables. I always feel like I’m wasting a lot of paint because my fan with is too large. I really think the Graco QUickShot is going to my most favorite.

      Hi Ben, great news - I wish you all the very best with your latest spraying venture 💙 ..Move relatively quick to begin with, as you get a feel of how the low viscosity product lays down.. then gauge how ‘slow’ you can move to produce the ultimate coat, that dries down beautifully smooth.. also, you will get some dust from the fine atomisation, use a microfibre cloth / vac between coats to remove any dust that could ‘interfere’ with the spraying 👍 good luck my friend, keep in touch 💙💯 regards Pete

      Hello my friend, apologies for delay, I will always get back to you.. happy to help and advise if I can..
      I recommend Kip masking products, if you search for “Kip Masking” in Amazon, you’ll see these products that I use..
      -Kip Washi-Tec 238 Premium.. is the gold washi tape I use on fully cured surfaces, when spraying for super sharp lines..
      Then this is the low tack / ‘purple’ sensitive Washi.. I use to mask walls when spraying the ceiling on the last day..
      -Kip Washi-Tec 209
      Kip Masking-Tec 3804 (48mm), I use for a cost effective crepe masking tape for non-critical lines..
      Then the 2 main plastic film and papers I use..
      -Kip Masking-Tec 232 Film (2.6m)
      -Kip Masking-Tec 234 Paper (30cm)
      Regarding woodwork.. I use a lot of these products for day to day internal joinery.. they are low viscosity, waterborne industrial 1K products.. spray very easily, no thinning at very low pressure ..being low viscosity, I use .008 tips.. so a 208 / 308...
      WP136 Water Based Primer / Edge Sealer
      holmanpaints.co.uk/interior-wood/171-akzo-nobel-WP136-highbuild-waterbased-primer-edge-sealer.html
      For the satin topcoat.. AkzoNobel Aqualit (Supercryl) Waterborne Enamel Topcoat
      holmanpaints.co.uk/interior-wood/169-akzo-nobel-aqualit-waterborne-enamel-topcoat.html
      ..you get a beautiful cabinet like satin finish ..and very cost effective, especially in 5 litre cans..
      Comes in white, then if needing tinting both primer and top coat can be colour matched off any colour chart..
      I’ve used Holmans for years, the Holmans team are all super helpful..
      Can be delivered next day if required.. If this helps at all, Holmans have a 5% discount code, across all their range..
      👉 Use code PAINTHQ

    What tip would you use to spray dulux water based satinwood? I've just got the graco quick shot and we're painting architraves, door frames and doors, and using about 1.5 ltr of paint just on 1 door and frame 1 coat. Getting a few runs aswell

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hello my friend.. you need to slow down the material flow by using a smaller orifice tip.. an .008 tip such as a 208 or 308 should work with your WB product.. which tip did you use, I’m guessing a larger orifice tip to spray the quantity of paint you mention .. moving much much quicker will also help not lay on as much 👍
      Just little tweaks to your setup and technique.. you’ll get there my friend 💙💯 regards Pete

    Pete love the channel. I have two of the Ultra handhelds and use them every day. Question, if I were springs spindles and want to use Benjamin Moore advance and 106 tip how far would you thin out that product?

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Brian, really appreciate your support and kind words 🙏 ..I fear BM Advance is a little too thick in paint viscosity terms for .006 tips - .006 such as the 106 suit low viscosity primers / top coats and clear lacquers (free flowing / spray only materials), whereas BM Advance is more thixotropic (can also be brushed / rolled) - typically you would use a .010, but BM are quality pigment paints - it may go through a .008 - I’d be inclined to recommend trying a 208 for spindles - a bit wider, but much more manageable.. I think you would get paint runs with a 108 🙈
      Hope this makes sense and helps a little.. always feel free to reach out and I’ll do my best to help - let me know how you get on, regards Pete 💙

    I'm looking to buy the quickshot for painting small pieces of mdf.
    Do you think this would be a suitable machine? I make miniature kitchens and am not sure if this would work for such an application. Do you think using the smallest tip at low pressure would be suitable to paint quickly?
    Any advice would be highly appreciated.

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello my friend.. I’m confident the QuickShot will be a good investment for you.. but to be sure - how miniature are your projects?.. .008” Graco tips work very well, even .006”, such as FFLP 106 and 206, if spraying low viscosity materials like in this video.. I link to the products in the video description - AkzoNobel WP136 (now known as 099) works extremely well on mdf, sealing edges - quick denib when dry and maybe a further high build coat and the mdf is silky smooth 👌

      Thanks for your response. A kitchen is roughly 30cm wide and 19cm high.

      Is it possible in any way to use thicker paints with a narrower spray pattern?
      Many thanks.

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ArtfluentCreations Certainly airless is the way to go when spraying thicker / higher viscosity materials - But, you will loose some of the control, and if you was spraying a thicker material through a narrow 2” fan (110, 112), the trade off is a heavy coating.. correct me if I’m wrong, is an airbrush / airspray setup suited for spraying miniature / model size projects ?.. although airspray is more suited to very low viscosity / thin materials.. happy to help any way I can 👍 regards Pete

    • @ArtfluentCreations
      @ArtfluentCreations 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do have an airbrush but having to thin the paint so much and the spray being so small with hardly any power takes far too long.
      I'm looking for something that can coat as quickly as possible, but not too heavily, so probably will have to thin the paint, but hopefully not as much as an airbrush. I would be spraying a lot of these kitchens at once in order to produce faster, so I suppose a larger orifice wouldnt be too much of an issue.
      Does this have similar control as a hvlp, do you think, as I was considering one of those but don't have the space for a compressor.
      I appreciate your help.

    #2 ) you had stated in a video a while back that trimtech tips were not fine finish I believe correct me if I’m wrong . I know they have a tip labeled fine finish but I think you were saying they have to be sprayed at the normal pressure so are their “ fine finish “ tips not low pressures

      Ah my brother, appreciate the kind words, very much appreciated 🙏 ..good questions, it’s my goal to create informative videos for everyone to be able to understand.. flow rate refers to how much in litres or gallons is sprayed per minute (if spraying water).. it’s the 2nd part of the numbering on the tip that indicates this .. #06, #08, for example 106, 108 ..the orifice size ..so a 106 has ‘less flow’ will let out less paint Vs a 108 ..this is what’s also meant by ‘gaining control’ or ‘ultimate control’ ..you potentially will be able to move the gun slower using a 106 Vs a 108 ..less risk of a paint run ..However it’s important to note, the viscosity determines how small a tip orifice you can use.. so .06 and .08 tips are for low viscosity, very thin, free flowing paints (usually spray only).. thicker finishing paints that can also be used with a brush / roller usually suit a .10 or above 👍
      Regarding TriTech Ultra Fine Finish, sure they are a fine finish tip producing fine atomisation.. they (by design) are not low pressure.. which is ok, I guess it’s down to preference in terms how you ‘like to spray’.. I’ve previously done a test using 208 tips and if I recall Graco FFLP tips were half the pressure (900 psi) spraying low viscosity waterborne material.. so Graco releasing new 106 and 206 (and 408) sizes, is pretty awesome if you’re a fan of low pressure spraying 💙 ..hope this helps my friend, always feel free to reach out, I’m happy to try and help.. sorry about the essay 😆 ..regards Pete

      Great to hear from you buddy.. depending on paint viscosity, I’d look to use a FFLP 208 / 308 👍 You have a reduced flow Vs a 310 and will gain more control.. a 310 (again depending on viscosity) could lay down too much material.. I tend to use a FFLP 208 or 308 in almost all cases 👍 Regards Pete

    Hi there. I bought a 110 tip, but I am scared to use it because of the flow rate. Could you suggest when a 110 might be suitable?

      I brought one a few years ago but there next to useless my friend to much paint flow you would have to move so fast not to get runs you would loose all control I found a lovely place for mind at the back of the shed and to the best of my knowledge it’s still there give the 1.06 a go 👍🏻
