    I quit smoking 7 years ago. It wasn't easy, but I thought of my health, my family, and most certainly the cost. At the time, cigs were only 6.5 US dollars per pack, and I was buying my girlfriends too. At today's cost, I would be paying over 620. US dollars per month! And honestly, quitting wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Nicotine gum really helps! You can do it!

    One thing most drivers don’t know how to use is Descent Mode on the DT-12 transmission. You set the downhill speed on the cruise control and the truck will hold the set speed with automatic engine brake using stake 1 2 or 3. One big difference it stage 3 engine brakes will run the engine RPMs 1800-2200 so be ready if you turn on stage 3 it will always run 1800-2200 RPMs. Stage 1 & 2 will normally be 1200-1800 RPMs
    If you set stage 3 engine brakes, the transmission will drop a gear or two and raise engine RPMs 1800-2200. As the truck slows the automatic will keep dropping gears to slow truck alway keeping engine RPMs 1800-2200 to give maximum engine brake down to like 10MPH or till you turn it off.
    It not like old engine brakes, it will never give up slowing truck down it will keep dropping gears.
    Lots of drive switching to automatic don’t understand this and drive it like manual. Then say you don’t have any control going down hill because they turn engine brake on and off like we did in manual transmission. You need to use Descent Mode or pick stage 1 2 or 3 manually run engines brake all the way downhill.

      Yes exactly this is one of the things they taught in class. One thing they said was kind of surprising and that was if the motor goes to 2500 at any point the motor basically shuts down and you have to pull over and have it towed to the dealer to be reset. They made it seem like that was kind of impossible to ever take place but who knows.

    I started driving in 2019 and Walmart is the only company i've driven for that took the time to teach us the features of the equipment we were using. I drive out of Ottawa, KS and whenever I'm on hilly parts of the interstate, I'll cruise at 63. If I set it at 65, I've noticed it'll let it hit 70 before turning on the jakes. Especially if it knows it is reaching the bottom of the hill.

    • @20plustrucking
      @20plustrucking  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah that's the truth. It may say it'll only go 3 mile an hour faster before it kicks the Jake's on but I haven't found that to be true every time. These trucks map the roads as you drive them and it remembers when the grade starts How steep it is and when it ends. What I don't like about that is when it gets to the crest of the hill it will start backing off by 3 mph figuring it will make up for it going down the other side. So in the end I'll use that feature sometimes but then other times I won't.

      @@jjjthomasson8902 I here you. I'm 64 and been driving 40 years for a grocery chain and I still love going through the gears. We have KW 680's and the shifting is $hitty to me. Accelerates slowly. I have been loaded and the 3rd vehicle at the stoplight and I still missed the signal. Unbelievable. When the truck shifts it pauses and loses a little momentum then picks up. In a manual transmission I NEVER lose momentum when shifting.
      In our trucks you can't operate the windshield wipers and cruise control (CC) at the same time. Are we that dumbed down and basically CHILDREN that we can't operate the two at the same time. I use the CC EVERYTIME I'm on the freeway as I find it more comfortable not having to try and maintain a certain speed when your company has a speed limit policy.
      Of course the newer trucks are more comfortable but give me back the manual T.

    Honestly man, automatics aren't bad at all. The only thing I hate is E which coasts it every time it senses there's any sort of hill which stiffens up the steering (just hold the throttle down).
    I've ran my auto through snow/ice and over just about every mountain and it works fine. The jake brake downshifts and holds the gear automatically and when you hit the brake pedal with the Jake it will downshift again when you get below a certain rpm.
    Pretty much like driving an automatic car: you just go. But you're right about the power.....the main issue for me is it likes to skip shift like 4 gears even when empty. I'll be starting off and it jumps from 3rd or 5th to like 8th gear, then straight to 11th or 12th. Guess that depends on how the company has them tuned.
    Really the only learning curve is trusting the jake to hold the gear (which it will)....and not having to do anything else but drive. Never any issues besides that. Bobtailing is a pain in the a$$ though.

    The entire industry is going to automatics, it’s not specific companies. The only way to get a truck manual anymore is to purposely spec it that way, and very few people do that, I’d imagine since there’s less of them being made now it would be more expensive to spec it that way versus taking the new standard of an automatic. I'm sure you're 7-hour class is coming. I believe Walmart has discovered they kind of messed up by not putting out this class a long time ago but better late than never I suppose. The switch by the seat is a power kill switch and turning it off before going home will definitely help on dead batteries after being gone 5 days. Can’t smoke in the truck ? What’s the big deal ? You will probably have this truck yourself for years and as far as Walmart goes these trucks are just another number and are throw away items. Walmart probably insures these trucks themselves and it has nothing to do with fuel economy.

    • @20plustrucking
      @20plustrucking  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually it's because there's more non-smokers by far than there is smokers and I'm sure Walmart doesn't want to hear the complaining from the non-smokers also when they auction them off That makes a big difference too if it's been smoked in or not. It may be your truck but they're still might be someone that needs to use your truck on your days off or you move to a different schedule or program that requires you to change trucks then that presents a problem I suppose. It used to be every DC had a special smoking cafeteria just for smokers and then they got rid of it at all the DCs. Also used to be able to smoke outside away from people and they put a stop to that and now you have to go to a special smoking shack that's way far away from the building. I don't blame Walmart for any of this I blame society. It's just people and it always has been.
