YES......YESSSSS...FINALLY a review that shows ACTUAL uses, not just an unboxing and wasted time figuring out where to mount a unit. You demonstrate some of the "hidden features" that I'd probably learn about during a 34 hr reset. Also your camera work is great. You've cracked the code of "recording what the viewer is going to see" instead of half-screens, pedals and steering wheels. You've sold me on the 10" rather than the 8" for one reason. I am a HUGE believer in using technological resources for efficiency and i can tell from your video it's going to be easier to punch on the go with a larger screen. You're also transparent in pointing out some of the "cons" of the unit. Definitely the best review video I've seen in the 3 hours I've been researching on YT. GREAT JOB!
THIS is the review I've been looking for for months! I don't give a crap about unboxing and and it's accessories. I want to know how it works in real world scenarios. Thanks for the great video!

So glad I'm not over the road anymore. I use mine mainly for traffic and construction and making detours. I do like being able to custom build my route.
Great review the one thing I would like to add, is on the back of the mounting block. You can change how you mount the unit an add whatever ball mount you choose
Sir, that review was excellent, thank you. I currently have an old Rand McNally and need a new GPS. You've convinced me to switch to Garmin. Safe travels!
The 1010 magnetic mount has an aux port you can connect to your truck stereo and Garmin will speak through your truck stereo. Problem with this is you can’t stream through your truck while doing this.
Much to learn - great review. Great display of the features. Rusty is looking good. We had another very warm day in Cheyenne today, but it's supposed to get nasty at the end of the week. Safe travels always neighbor!
Are the 1010 and 810 any better in towns with lots of truck restrictions? Good examples might be South Plainfield, NJ, New York City, and even Bensalem, PA (where I delivered this morning). My Garmin 800 is terrible in all of those places. Even when there is a clearly marked truck route,, my Garmin simply refuses to allow me to go the way I know I'm supposed to go. I was right in front of a cop this morning who was waiting to see if I went the way my Garmin wanted me to go or if I stayed on the posted truck route. I'm glad I was paying attention! I've tried to alert Garmin that they have things wrong in lots of different towns and cities, but they never change it. I have to memorize my route every time I'm in Queens or Brooklyn. Common knowledge among truck drivers (say, about bridge heights) just doesn't seem allowed to find its way into the Garmin universe. I still haven't figured out how to keep it from hijacking my phone calls. Is there something in settings?
I have an android phone, and unfortunately I've found that if you turn off the phone option on GPS it disconnects. Must do it through the phone settings, and not the GPS settings.

I have been driving truck for 5 years, I started at 18, and I am now 24 completing my CDL training to go over the road. I don't care if it is 2k or 100 bucks....I want the best routes....I do not care about fuel stops or breaks....I just want good roads and the best routes for trucks....What should I research or buy? Thank you all in advance.
Be careful out there. The best drivers I know never claim to be in that camp. As for tech, Garmin has the new DEZL 210 coming out. Maybe you want to look into that. We have most of the Garmin units and prices are better than most. Reach out.
Thanks for the video clutch... Is there a video out plug on these mappers or some way to cast it to a large screen monitor I have set up where the passenger seat used to be?

My rand McNally is crapping out on me now and I was looking into the Garmin 810. This review helped a lot and I love singing the beggin' strip song. One question: the DEZL app said it has real time traffic updates, will it adjust your route if there are major slowdowns ahead?
Another poster here says his Garmin 1000 model suggests a route around those situations but I don’t think any GPS will adjust your route without your approval first.
Saved my Pilot points the last few years and just got myself a free 810 which was also on sale. I’ve been using Rand the last few years. So far the only thing I don’t like is the onscreen icons. On Rand I had actual Pilot, Loves, TA ect icons and rest stops and weigh stations were clearly marked on my route map. I found the poi menu on the 810 but it isn’t intuitive how it works at all. I do really like the Birds Eye view feature and the satellite images. That is very helpful. Both Rand and Garmin make boneheaded choices at times but overall they do a decent job. I’m just hoping the Garmin works out well for me. I won’t have points for another gps for a few years now. lol
That would be nice for sure. I’ll have to say that so far I like the Garmin a lot better. I think that says a lot for it considering I’ve used nothing but Rand products the last 10 years. The icons on the map for poi’s are the only thing I don’t like as much. Everything else is much better. I’ve gotten used to the set up of routes pretty quickly which is the main use anyway and I like how it does routing a lot better.
Good review... I have the 1000 & my favorite feature is the Garmin Drive app. I can drop a pin on Google Maps & hit SHARE, select Garmin, then it will route me to that exact spot. Seems very similar to the 1000 and I don’t use satellite view enough to make it worth being the flagship reason I upgrade. Thanks for the review though!
I bought the small Garmin then replaced it with the largest rand McNally. Now I just bought the 1010 and I'm using both the rand McNally and the 1010 at the same time. The both seem to have their strong points
!!:Alert:!! I hope this gets your attention Mr Clutch Trucker !! You don’t cover how to track your miles per state for IFTA on this video that I could see and I really need to know if there is a way to do that because their videos aren’t helpful and my client I driver for as a contractor has me using the IFTA app and it’s not holding miles correctly.

Also give me 3 to 4 rute i culd take naw im using Garmin and im not so happy whit park places which show me and it give me only 2 to 3 rutes i culd take. Yes one plus is you can change rute ease whit point of drive and when you plan rute you culd duit more simply but still mist my Becker
Rand McNally is unreliable, most of tge time it does good routing, but just as you get comfortable and stop double checking on GMaps, it will fuck you and route you through a shitty place, adding miles and choosing the busiest highways. Just dismissed mine with a punch to the screen. Be vigilant, don't get fucked, avoid Rand McNally.
The Garmin OTR1010 will give you truck routes, which the smartphone apps will not. They will route you as if you are four wheeler like putting you on ‘no trucks’, etc.

Good work … congrattulations !!!
Use what works for you!!! Stay safe out there!!! 😊
Does it announce weigh station
It shows distance within 5 miles
@ClutchTrucker yes that's why I never used Garmin. It doesn't announce weigh stations... Ty bud
how about Garmin OTR 710 with a camera,it's a good choose than OTR1010 or OTR810? please give me some suggestions, Thank you---------new truck dirver~
I haven’t had good luck with the Garmin Dash Cams, or the integrated GPS/Dash Cams in the past. Tried the Dezl 6” with dash cam years ago. The unit burned up in 6 months.
@@ClutchTrucker thank you for your reply 😃
@@ClutchTruckerjust ordered the 710.with the dash cam arrives monday.this worries me 🧐😔,. I did get the 2year protection plan from Best buy
Thinking of sending it back unless I can find answers to the questions below
Can it be connected to the app on my phone and I still use my blue parrot headset and listen to my.music on my truck radio?
Thanks for your video, very informative!
Is there opcion for Bus or youst for trucks?
You can select an auto option. Not sure about bus
I wonder how it differs from 820
1010 and 810 are the same. Just different size. Don’t know about 829
The map is more fluid on Rand mcnally 750, and also we see truck stop point on map a little bit like Trucker Path show's...
Interesting
What do you know about that Casey's breakfast pizza though??
I’m not a fan of breakfast pizza. Egg on a pizza just seems wrong to me 😂
Clutch you dont use Hammmer ? How you feel ?
What’s hammer?
Picked one up because Loves has them on sale for $700
Very cool
How do u add the birdseye ?
When u have it Connected to the Dezl app it does it automatically
What a garmin with the built in camera?
I’ve had bad experiences with the built in dash cam Garmin’s
I sure hope this is the last one you will ever have to buy.
Does your CPA write these costs off?
Yes they do. Anything I buy for the truck is a write off
Does the birds eye view require internet?
Yes. Through the dezl app.
Do you know how much data it needs for that to work? My service is capped at 10gb a month for hotspot
Ya think you can show that again. Lol
Thanks for info I’m about to buy a upgrade this week.
Isn’t it just easier to find addresses using google maps you can just copy the address from that to the dezl app and send it to the gps
You can. I just don’t like doing that
@@ClutchTrucker well I understand I just wished Garmin would like you said put all those truck stops on the same list in fact I would volunteer to add new places if that was an option they could even ask other drivers to verify new locations. I would also wouldn’t mind paying up one version price for the same size unit if I had a faster processor installed in the gps to make it smoother and snappier.
How do set it for traffic alert
Set it up for traffic alerts in settings. And as long as u have the dezl app open on your phone. It alerts you
To get these traffic updates must the app be opened or.......?
Seen this video 10 times and still only use the basic features
This video is great, thank you
I run both. I get shorter miles with the Randmcnally
Thanks Clutch 👍🏻 like this GPS
Excellent video. Well done. Is there a charge to keep the maps updated or do they update automatically? Also I HIGHLY recommend Tackform GPS mounts. Check them out. They are legit and built to past. Great stuff great customer service.
No charge for updates
Would you recommend for someone that is local home daily? My company gps is ass I run trucker path along with company gps and I’ve seen trucker path give me faster routes and been using trucker path for a year it’s never failed me
Fir local stuff your probably better off with Trucker Path
It's sad the only models with the built in camera are the 7" models.
Great review
I’m just here for Rusty the awesome meatball dog 🐕 LOVE YOU RUSTY ❤ woof woof
Smart I did the sane thing mounted it low and resting on the dash I had the 610 series and still did it haha😅 but the wire just had to be careful didn't want it to get pinched 😂
I suppose you still have your 2021 paper atlas too huh 🤔
Actually it’s a 2022 paper atlas! 😂
Right , I’m 46 and yes I’ll rather utilize print any day. That’s why certain books are only in print because they know today’s society.
Great review Clutch, but just so you know you left that phone number visible from whoever texted you hello.
I got the OTR1000 because of your video. Not sure if I’m going to upgrade. Seems very similar to the 1000 and I don’t use satellite view enough to make it worth being the flagship reason I upgrade. Thanks for the review though!
If u don’t think the satellite view will be helpful. Stick with the 1000
I bought the small Garmin then replaced it with the largest rand McNally. Now I just bought the 1010 and I'm using both the rand McNally and the 1010 at the same time. The both seem to have their strong points
I wish both companies would make one great unit

Finally!
I found Garmin is off by at least a few miles per state. Not a good think to judge your IFTA miles in
Well im in Europe my first navi whos Becker and whot i did like about thet navi is thet give me all park place i culd use on my rute in one place so it whos ease to drive max min until i shuld stop.
Also give me 3 to 4 rute i culd take naw im using Garmin and im not so happy whit park places which show me and it give me only 2 to 3 rutes i culd take.
Yes one plus is you can change rute ease whit point of drive and when you plan rute you culd duit more simply but still mist my Becker
so I guess there's no audio out plug either i'm getting more towards the end of your video sorry dude
No. The extension speaker I use to get more volume is a Bluetooth speaker. Works good though
Its mab ann not me bane
?
Oh. Gotcha
i call my gps RANDY and GARY
😂
Rand McNally is unreliable, most of tge time it does good routing, but just as you get comfortable and stop double checking on GMaps, it will fuck you and route you through a shitty place, adding miles and choosing the busiest highways.
Just dismissed mine with a punch to the screen. Be vigilant, don't get fucked, avoid Rand McNally.
Gave up on Rand McNally GPS units years ago
I must be getting old, you lost me in the first couple of minutes, LoL.
Way to spoiled Mr. Clutch
My free gps on my phone is way plenty!
The Garmin OTR1010 will give you truck routes, which the smartphone apps will not. They will route you as if you are four wheeler like putting you on ‘no trucks’, etc.
How do you set the mph you want the garmin to calculate route time at?
Under truck settings when you set up your truck weight, height, etc
It’s does show low bridges?????
Usually yes
