Let’s talk about the best nutrient for autoimmune conditions. This information is based on an interesting protocol developed by Dr. Coimbra.
According to Dr. Coimbra, “all or nearly all patients with an autoimmune disease have an increased resistance to the effects of vitamin D.”
So, someone with an autoimmune disease may have not only a deficiency of vitamin D but also a resistance to vitamin D. This means that to raise the vitamin D levels in patients with an autoimmune condition, they may require a much higher dose than the average person without an autoimmune disorder.
In general, the medical health care system recommends taking only 600 IU of vitamin D per day. However, other credible sources discuss taking at least 10,000 IU of vitamin D with no risks.
The chemistry of vitamin D is very similar to steroid hormones. With an autoimmune condition, your immune system is out of control and is attacking itself. But, one of the incredible functions of vitamin D is its ability to act as an immune regulator. Vitamin D can also help reduce inflammation, which is common in autoimmune conditions.
The more resistant you are to vitamin D, the higher your risk is for autoimmune disease and other conditions.
Other potential causes of resistance to vitamin D:
    • Vitamin D polymorphism
    • Darker skin
    • Metabolic syndrome or insulin resistance
    • Obesity
    • Age
    • A lack of vitamin D in the diet
    • A lack of sun exposure
Keep in mind that it’s very important to find a doctor that is experienced with the Coimbra protocol to work with you while doing the protocol.
This protocol determines the vitamin D dosage by measuring your parathyroid hormone. The goal of this protocol is to drop your parathyroid hormone into the lower level of the normal range.
The amount of vitamin D that someone would take could range from 40,000 IU per day to 200,000 IU per day. To minimize the main potential side effect of this protocol (hypercalcemia), you would want to avoid calcium and drink 2.5 liters of fluid per day.
Contact a doctor who is experienced in the Coimbra protocol to get started.

As an autoimmune patient, totally agree with this. I’ve had a battle with my doctors here in Canada when I stopped the chemo in 2020. I was very sick, and mostly steroids allow me to move and breath again, but it cause lots of side effects, and the other medication even worse. I changed my diet radically, and incremented D3, complex B, C, and Magnesium. Today in remission for over 2 years. Thank you Dr Berg 🙏🏻

One thing no one ever says is Vit. D is fat soluble. I worked outside every day for 6 years. I took 50,000 IU of vit. D daily, I always tested deficient. Recently a young lady taking my blood said, You need to take some kind of oil like olive, Avacado or coconut oil when taking Vit. D. I also take triple vit K along with it. After 5 years of this plus my regular multiple plus 1tbl daily of cod liver oil, I show no signs of sickness or toxicity from the D. My mom had a Vitamin D deficiency for years and didn't know it until a few years ago. Her calcium levels were also believed to have been low for an extended time, which led to soft bones (unsure if low calcium was related to low Vitamin D levels over time). She devoted her life to servitude as a Nurse. Just over a year ago she got out of the car, twisted her foot on a rock, and broke it. She had to have surgery and the doctors could not even get the screws to go into her bone because of how soft it was. Only ten days after surgery, she died suddenly at 58 YOA of what is believed to have been a blood clot that went to her lung(s). I was visiting her only three days before her death and she asked me to rub her feet with a warm cloth due to low circulation. This was a very unusual request from her, but I am thankful for that moment because it was the last time I saw or talked to her.

My mom used to have this rare disease called dermatomyositis. It was quite awful, she had lots of pain in her joints, weak muscles (heart included) and other unpleasant symptoms. After years of taking steroids and fighting with it conventionally she started taking huge doses of Vit D. It took approximately 1,5 years for her to fully recover and at the age of 76 (after 20 years of struggle) her doctor told her (quite surprised) she was completely fine and no longer suffering from this autoimmune disease… I might add that not a single doctor throughout those 20 years ever told her or even remotely suggested she should supplement Vitamin D. It was our own idea to increase levels of this particular vitamin due to Covid and also because we read a lot how it can be beneficial in any kind of autoimmune diseases…

Makes sense. I was taking Bach Flower remedies in the 1980s and experimented with Wild Oat. This brought out a bout of Grover's Disease. I worked outside a lot in Miami, getting intense sun and enjoyed the beach too. It is easy to reason that I was getting vitamin D resistence to adapt to the massive amounts vitamin D I was manufacturing. I am still farming i Thailand at 16° North latitude, but I now take zinc to heal my skin from all of the shedding of cells and to grow my hair stronger to resist the sun. I will now do intermittent sun fasts like you recommend fasting for insulin resistence. If that doesn't reset things, I will follow up with non solar sources of vitamin D in therapeutic doses.

It appeared as though she may have been allergic to oranges, citrus, but I never understood how that doctor told her, in the l950s!... that she's allergic to vitamin C. • @alexk48
      @alexk48 2 ปีที่แล้ว

K2 should always be taken along with vitamin D. Vitamin D increases the absorption of calcium from the intestines. A high serum blood calcium level can cause both kidney stones and arterial calcium deposits.
Also most kidney stones are calcium oxalate stones. Oxalate ( not calcium or vitamin D) may be causing your kidney stones. Try a low oxalate diet and have your serum vitamin D and calcium levels drawn.

Possibly the best video I have ever seen. Quality production, superior photography, excellent slides and perfectly narrated. And I'm not easily impressed. But all that takes a backseat to the complete, thorough explanation you gave. Thank you. Please keep doing your amazing service for our health.

Fibromyalgia is very very often the result of SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth). You should consider taking a breath test to rule SIBO out.

D3 gives twice as much in the blood as D2. It makes more sense to take 10,000i.u. D3 everyday than 50,000i.u.D2 twice weekly (very obsolete and not evenly distributed). Throw out D2 for being poorer absorbed...

Thank you! After an undefined diagnosis of some autoimmune disease the only thing my Dr said was my D was very low. She recommended 5000iu. After my own research, I started 10000iu daily. The pain, swelling and stiffness in my legs has diminished, but my neck, upper body and especially wrists & hands are still very bad. This is encouraging that taking more might help more. Thank you

I have rheumatoid arthritis and have struggled with vit D deficiency. I finally went to a functional medicine doctor. She increased my dosage to 10,000 IU sublingual. That really helped raise my levels. Eventually I figured out taking vit K helped too. Unfortunately when I added vit k my levels went too high. The biggest difficulty I face is getting doctors to test my vit D levels on a consistent basis. I can’t afford the functional medicine doctor anymore. She was the only doctor who understood this protocol.

In my teens and early 20s I struggled with low testosterone. My beard was small and patchy. My doctor tested my vitamin D3 levels and I was very deficient. I was told to take 2000 IUs/day. In just one year my beard grown flourished. I also started on Zinc. Now I take Vitamin 2000 IUs of D3, 50 mg of Zinc, 4 grams of Vitamin C, and a multi vitamin. All those help boost and maintain testosterone levels. Men, if you are struggling with low testosterone it could be from vitamin deficiencies. Try these vitamins and minerals. Give your body the building blocks and it will start to build.
P.s. Cycle at least 2 weeks off Zinc. Too much is not good either.

Hashimotos and type 1 diabetic here. Thankfully supplementation works for me. Using a functional doctor, I am tested in various areas, and more frequently, than allopathic doctors would do. It is easy to see if something is working or not just via new supplementation and follow up blood work.
I keep my A1C around 5 - 5.2 ( my doctor wants it a bit higher?) and my vitamin D level around 85. Thank you doctor Berg for all the keto information and recipes throughout the years. Recently did a metabolic test, where they hook up a few wires, then another test where your nose is plugged and you breathe into a tube for 10 minutes. Interesting results - shows BMI, hydration status, percentages of fat, bone and muscle and then, your metabolic rate ( slow, normal, fast) - how quickly you use or burn calories.
We expect to lose muscle as we age, but I was surprised to see that at age 67, I had not lost any muscle in the last seven years ( last time tests were done) and I have a fast metabolism, 65% faster than other people my age. No doubt part of this is genetics but I also believe much of it is due to following Dr Bergs diet suggestions.
