Just wondering what's the reason why you connected the power for the camera from the front that long and not from one of the reverse lights cable at the back together with the trigger line? I usually connect all(power for camera + trigger line)from reverse light wire at the back and still work fine. I am curious if there is a reason the way you did. Thanks
This video enabled me to get this done myself and look good. Only part I messed up was being a little too rough for the center panel and popped off on of the plastic doors ☹️
I saw that you grounded the Light Green (Parking Brake) wire from the aftermarket head unit. I just wanted to make sure I understand why. Was it done so that there is no restriction from playing media while the vehicle is "in motion?" I'm aware that many head units prefer there to be a signal from the parking brake in order to know, for sure, that the user isn't watching -- for example -- a DVD while driving. With that in mind, I assume the Light Green (Parking brake) would be wired to ground in order to 'mimic' the parking brake as 'always on,' thereby bypassing the safety check on the head unit?
I also had a question regarding the Accessory being wired to the Backup camera. I understand that it needs to be wired to the reverse on the aftermarket head unit (in order to trigger the display change) but if the camera is also wired to Accessory, then wouldn't it always be on? I'm assuming that's not the case, and that it would require a command from the head unit in order to trigger it when not in reverse (which this head unit seems to have). Since that seems to be the case, I have a follow-up question: Is every aftermarket DDIN head unit able to support the use of a backup cam wired for Accessory? or is it only possible if the head unit gives the user the option to view the camera when NOT in reverse?
Exactly! You can do that by grounding or bypassing the parking brake. It is a safety hazard. No stereo will let you play media while driving otherwise.

QUESTIONS: I have an '09 Corolla and installing 9" head unit. 1) Must the brake wire be connected to the black ground wire to by-pass emergency brake to watch videos while driving? 2) To have a camera icon on head unit and to see behind the car without being in reverse, did you connect the reverse trigger wire from RCA cable from rear camera to red Accessory wire and also the head unit reverse wire (mine is a brown wire) for when car is put in reverse? 3) I have two yellow RCA connectors from head unit. One connector is labeled 'CCD AVIN' and the other connector is labeled 'Aux-V'. The Camera RCA cable connector coming from the camera plugs into which of the two RCA connectors in order to establish a signal for the rear camera? 4) I have a pink wire from the head unit labeled, 'With protocol model output 12V can be connected to the camera'. Is this pink wire like an accessory wire for the rear camera to view behind the car with out being in reverse? Should I use this wire instead of the red accessory wire to have a camera icon on head unit and see behind the car without being in reverse? 5) I connected the RCA cables together at the head unit and the trigger wire to the red wire off of the RCA cable, but I get no reverse camera pic on the head unit. When I go to the rear camera, the LED lights up when in reverse. Why no reverse camera pic? Thank You for All Your HELP!!!
I installed my Kia 2008 Sedona with new Kenwood head unit and reverse camera and Maestro for steering wheel controls to work on the new stereo. A lot of work but worth it!!! Next, my 2001 Ford Focus ZX3
Working on getting the aux entertainment roof mounted DVD system audio and video into the Kenwood next with some adapters. Hoping there is a video out put somewhere from it. I know where the aux audio wires are on the harness. Will be in socal for work next month for two weeks too.
So the camera is pulling power from the accessory power cable that usually powers the stereo unit? How does both the stereo unit and the camera both get enough power?
19:48 and why would you not test the steering wheel interaction with the back-up camera at this point? Or did the customer actually choose a headunit that doesn't support the steering integration?
Right he even soldered the wires and put heat shrink over when he could’ve just used butt connector smh 🤦🏾♀️ not a good install for your average person.
Hi, your video was very useful for me in installing the touch screen and the backup camera to my corolla 2012. The only issue I'm having is that there is a faint whining noise from the touch screen which increases with rpm of the engine. I googled a little bit and it seems like an alternator whine. My wife like it because she thinks it sounds like an electric car accelerating, but I want to get to the bottom of it. What is different from most of the cases in the internet, is that the whining sound does not increase with volume of the stereo. Even when I disconnect the speaker wires and only connect the power related wires, there is the whining sound. I tried connecting the outer rims of the rcas, but no use. What I will probably do this weekend is to disconnect the ground wire from the harness, and try to connect it directly to the chassis of the vehicle. One more thing I'm suspecting is when I soldered the wires, I didn't put them in line like you did, I put them side-by-side and soldered them. I'm wondering if this can contribute to creating a loop and somehow cause electromagnetic field which can induce interference to the adjacent wires. Anyways, I would appreciate any kind of trouble shooting tips!
Glad it helped! It sounds like an electrical wiring issue, specifically the ground. Yes double check all connections, make sure they're all secure. Are the solders connections covered with heat shrink tubing or anything?
I have installed a double din head unit on my touring motorcycle and would like to use the backup camera to look behind me while going down the road. What can I connect the wire that would normally go to the backup light switch to be able to power access the camera? The head unit is a Sony XAV1000
Wow thank you so much for the free lesson. Extra brownie points for the added comedy while you were wrapping the wires. That made me laughed and lost concentration. I definitely will have to watch this multiple times before attempting my own. I think I blinked and missed the part about ground. Do you have to wrap an additional ground wire? Mine came with only the red and black wires for the back up camera.
The camera is a stand-alone accessory so it needs its own ground. The radio/head unit already has a ground, so no, you only have to run the power signal from the reverse lights back to the radio/head unit to trigger the unit to switch to the video feed.
Can I install the red wire into the red 12v on the back of the head unit instead of the purple video viewer. And then run a wire from the kick panel and find the reverse light wire and run that to the purple video viewer cable? That way I can view the camera whenever I want as well as have it kick on when put into reverse? Thanks
nice work. when drilling fresh holes you should paint the edges because that is now bare metal and can start a rust issus. the rubber grommet it there but it only helps and it can still rust.

@@Qualitymobilevideo hey so from the video did you initially use a grommet in thr hole you drilled in the trunk then changed it to a boot type grommet. Just wanted to clarify. Also, what brand were they? Thanks.
Man I wish you lived by me. Great work man👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thanks! 😃
thanks for the detailed video. i've installed my backup camera . but the image is flickring i dont have a clear picture. when it's on reverse and engine is off it's still flickers but not that bad , but when engine is on the the picture is worse. any ideas what cause that? maybe a voltage drop?? thanks
I wish I had such a high-quality car mechanics in my city.
They are out there, gotta find one!
This video helped me alot to instal my camera and I’ve installed for family as well. 👌🏼
Great to hear!
Very clean and professional job
Thanks!
Hello, what sealant did you use?
I installed my Kia 2008 Sedona with new Kenwood head unit and reverse camera and Maestro for steering wheel controls to work on the new stereo.
A lot of work but worth it!!! Next, my 2001 Ford Focus ZX3
Awesome job!
Working on getting the aux entertainment roof mounted DVD system audio and video into the Kenwood next with some adapters.
Hoping there is a video out put somewhere from it. I know where the aux audio wires are on the harness.
Will be in socal for work next month for two weeks too.
Props for soldering to the bare wire from the reverse light instead of using wire taps.
That's a amazing work he did wish I have him install mine for me
I'm gonna have to watch this video about 5-10 times before I can do this myself
So the camera is pulling power from the accessory power cable that usually powers the stereo unit? How does both the stereo unit and the camera both get enough power?
Hi I'm new to this. Is soldering is a requirement to do this process?
No it is not, you can use crimp connectors.
So you spliced the red accessory wire to create the power line to the camera? Blue and white wire you didn't connect, just capped it off?
wow i love your presentation my friend. youre so good in electrical installation.
Thank you very much
19:48 and why would you not test the steering wheel interaction with the back-up camera at this point? Or did the customer actually choose a headunit that doesn't support the steering integration?
THIS IS not an easy install. Awesome video though.
Right he even soldered the wires and put heat shrink over when he could’ve just used butt connector smh 🤦🏾♀️ not a good install for your average person.
@@jasminerogers9971just use electrical tape the hardest part is mounting the camera
Smart & quality work 💐💐💐🥰🥰
Thank you!
Thanks for the tip!
