    Clear and comprehensive video, thank you very much. I just got a little confused by your brief explanation about aftermarket amplifier connection. I have a 2005 Ford Focus ZX3. Just got a Pioneer AVH-1300NEX. I have a 4-channel Alpine amp I want to use. My plan is to take the RCA Pre-outs back to the amp, and run the speaker leads back to the front. I THOUGHT I heard you say I would not make the connections between the Ford Harness and the Pioneer harness for the speaker leads, but would wire the speakers to the Pioneer harness. Not to the Ford harness? How can the speakers connect via the aftermarket unit if those connections are not tied into the Ford harness in any way? Or is the Ford harness the primary, just passing the signals through to the aftermarket harness? I may have been thinking of them in reverse. I'm sure I am wrong in my thinking, not you in your presentation! Thanks for the great work.

    Good advice. I would argue about useing the wrong tool to crimp, try a ratcheted model that crimps two points at the same time against a third, if you find you must buy tools dont, just use the butt connectors with solder in them and heat with a disposable lighter or even a hair dryer, this also eliminates the need for any added tape as the outer silicone shrinks and is far better, not to mention it is very easy to use even for someone who has never solderd.

    I don't think the inventor of the but connector designed them with the intent of using them for mountain climbing or car towing or for any heavy pull load of any kind :)

    When soldering, staggering the connections will reduce a big bump in the harness where all the connections are, it's a bit more fuss, but could be useful, and look better.

    Great video! I do have one question, though. In newer vehicles where the factory radio is able to detect whether or not the car is in park before allowing you to perform certain tasks, would it be possible to have an aftermarket radio communicate with the gearshift to do the same thing, at least in some cases, or would tapping into the parking brake wire still be required like in older cars? For example, in some Hyundai Tucson models, the factory radio will not allow you to pair a new phone to Bluetooth unless the car is in park.

    This video is the most informative and educational on this subject. Thanks a lot! I have a question on the steering wheel control unit and parking brake by-pass. I have a 2005 Lexus ES330, and try to change the factory radio to aftermarket one, do I really need the steering wheel control unit and parking brake by-pass?

    Thank you for this great video. I have a question: I recently bought a touch screen radio (cheap one) for my car, it work good, but it has a small problem, when I start the car it goes on automatically with a welcome screen and the antenna rise and after a second it turns off even if it was off last time I turned off the car. Every time I put the car on or put switch to accessories the radio goes on automatically and turns off, also.. at night when I turn on lights the power button of the radio doesn't illuminate when it is off to show me where to press to turn it on.. I just want to turn it on when I want to. Any help will be appreciated.

    Thank you thank you so much, I’ve been trying all day trying to figure out what color is what, my first time hooking up my system and running a stinger 9 conductor wire. Running 4 kicker DS for the 4door speaker and running a 8” sundown neon and (2) 6.9 sundowns on a 5channel amplifier. This video just helped me finished my set up. Much appreciated.

    So there's a ground wire coming from the aftermarket harness and another ground wire coming from the stereo head's harness, do I connect the two together or do I ground them both to the car chassis? If I do ground them to the car chassis is it okay to use the same ground for both of them? I'm currently getting terrible static and I think it might be because I connected the two ground wires together, but I'm not sure, any help would be cool!

  • @spacedad1853
    @spacedad1853 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you mind questions? Please. The new stereo has wires that the harness doesn't have, nor did you mention them. The pinks are obvious; front/rear cameras. The 5 others are the questionable ones.
    (Wires 1-3) Have 3 wires for Steering wheel control (Gray = SWC 1, Green = SWC 2 and Black (fine) = SWC Ground.) Do I need that separate ($50) SWC? Or can I pull out one of the wires from the the other connectors that were in the stock unit?
    (4) Blue (B+) (2nd blue w/o white stripe) = Amplifier Control and (5) Brown = Brake (B-).
    Also, I noticed one video had a harness kit with the other connectors. My harness (Metra) didn't. Wondering, if I got the wrong brand harness.
    Sorry, one more. Does any metal behind the dash, count as "chassis ground"?
