This is cool and all, but this tells me nothing about how to make it work in an actual car. Now I know how the wires connect but how do I connect something from my headlight to the back of my radio? Do I have to drill wire holes or something?
@@MrGamelover23 1st off, every car differs so greatly, that if your are looking fora vehicle specific video, you need to search specifically for that vehicle. 2nd, don't connect the camera to the headlight, that will do you no good. I'd suggest connecting it to the reverse light in the tail light. 3rd, you haven't mentioned what vehicle this is being installed on whatsoever.

I watched several youtube videos on how to install a backup camera and this one is the best. It took me about 4.5 hours to install a camera and a new head unit into my 2007 Toyota Tundra. Much of the time was spent running the wire from the back to the front. I had to drill a hole in the cab and fish the wire through to the head unit. It was a pain but I am happy with the results.

Now, I'm able to figure out that in my particular case, I do not need the red cable connection to the radio since my radio is able to switch to reverse mode once I change the gear to do that. Thank you!
This is a great easy to understand video. Don't forget that some cameras use 6 volts instead of 12 so you will have to get some kind of converter to go from the backup light to the camera, the converter usually has three wires, a ground, a 12-volt positive in and a 6-volt volt positive out that connects to the camera.
Thanks for this video. I am installing one in my truck and knowing that little wire goes directly to my reverse wire is going to save me untold amounts of time!!! Thanks again!!!
My head unit gives me the option to look at the camera image anytime I want I’m driving down the freeway I can turn it on. And the way to do that is to take the red wire in the black wire just hook the black one to the Jessica car and then find any hot water in your car you could even go to your license plate light but you’d have to turn your running lights on to turn the camera on. Or even just connected to your cigarette lighter where it’s always hot then you can look at the image anytime you want. And it will still come on when you go in reverse

The camera operates (fine) in the range 9-15V. As there is a 12V output from my display, I used this one and it works fine ... whatever if the camera would be always ON ; at least it works. Sometimes, you have to be more realistic than fancy ... Note : the camera supplier (in China) provided a wiring diagram where it is indicated to connect to the reverse light. The only trick is that you have to probe the voltage on this line and it has to be sufficient for the camera.
I figured out to remove the clips from my car myself but this video was on point and accurate and super easy to follow. Thank you so much for saving me the headache and money to do this myself. 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
I watched this video before fitting my rear view camera. I followed all the steps as per this video and the camera would only work when the cars ignition was on but car not running, start the car and the camera would switch off. What I found out after alot more searching on the Internet was if your car happens to have can bus electronics you have to energise the camera not from the back up lights but through a relay so you need a 12volt feed from the car battery to the relay, a ground to the relay, a wire from the backup lights to switch the relay and lastly wires from relay to the camera and the trigger wire. This video does not explain this so yes what is shown but not correct for all cars.
I just read you comment. Icannot get it to work. If the engine is off, the camera picture is perfect. Once the engine is running, the picture is completely distorted. Could it be the same thing? I have canbis as well, and power through the back light. I am not technical at all, so relays and stuff...i don't know.. Do you have any more info?
This video is wrong, please do not follow these instructions if your car radio has a Canbus. I followed these instructions for method 1 and while the camera worked I ended up with multiple errors on my car's ECU from multiple modules. You do not connect the red wire from the video cable to the rear light positive source or to the rear of the radio, if your radio comes with a Canbus module. The canbus will operate the camera when power is applied via the rear light bulb. The instructions given in this video only apply to car radio that do not have a canbus.
I did everything like this video did, however my 04 Lexus is300 back up light has both positive wires instead positive and negative, should I run my own ground wire from the head unit down to the camera ground wire?
so on radios that allow you to manually look at the reverse camera by pressing a button on the screen but also automatically display the reserve camera when backing up, I'd choose the second routing option?
@@ProvoBeastAudio The LED’s will burn all of the time if you run the “plug you called the power plug with the ground “ up at the accessory switch. Those only powers the LED’s. The camera is powered by the RCA actually. And the “power /ground “ can actually be connected to the tail lights to only turn on the LED’s when you put car in reverse. This also allows radios with the viewing option to work “WITHOUT THE LED’s burning”. RIGHT ? Because like I said. The camera gets a positive & negative power from the yellow RCA . This might not be on all cameras. But it does work this way if it has the “CONVENIENCE WIRE”. this is the only thing I saw you missed. Great vid otherwise though.
Thank you for this video! You freaking rule! Great tutorial. You've actually given me the confidence to do this so I did it today on my wife's 2001 CR-V 5spd. Hardest part was t-taping. My t-taps weren't able to get through the wire housings even with using the pliers to squeeze them down so when I fired it up nothing worked initially. So I removed the taps and used my wire stripper to reveal some copper then retapped. It was good after that. Only other issue was the wire from these cheap Chinese kits are such small gauge wire. Wish they were a little thicker gauge. I had a hard time crimping the power wire spade. It kept coming apart because of the small gauge wire. So I stripped more wire and doubled it over to make it thicker then recrimped and it held. My car battery also died while doing this so thought the radio was broken or a fuse popped because it wouldn't turn on. So I checked all connections. Removed the harness to make sure the crimps were holding. Then I noticed the lights on the dash were fading. I tried to start the car and nothing. I had to jump it. Then everything worked. Power hungry accessories. But thanks again. Your tutorial was super clear.
I bought a wireless backup camera kit thinking it would be beneficial, while it was one of the more cheap kits I have put more time into a wireless receiver than what I would have had to put in this. This makes it more simple!
Very clear and precise demonstration of the wiring. Many thanks to the presenter. These other videos demonstrating the process, the presenters reach somewhere, hide some content and leave somebody in the dark.
Thank you so much for your talent and easy explaining of what's being attached and why, plus the extra for setting it up if you have a boat or trailer behind. If you explained everything in life the same way we would be a better nation. P.s. wrote this letter after I installed the camera, both ways. IS AWESOME!!!!! THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!

Yep, this was the only video that explained the use of the red wire for video switching on the radio. Thank you so much!
Best video!

Done! Thanks for that great video. It totally helped me out in connecting my multimedia with the rear view camera :)
Thanks so much for uploading this informative clip, this was the best video describing the installation of a reverse camera I could find on TH-cam.
You are the best if it weren’t for you I would of never connected the camera

Provo Beast Audio Installation great description really gave me good insight, now figuring out running wired became the issue lol.
Too many videos make this look too technical. Very well explained!
Can I attach this to a PC monitor?
I guess you could if the PC monitor accepts a Composite Video input.
I did everything like this video did, however my 04 Lexus is300 back up light has both positive wires instead positive and negative, should I run my own ground wire from the head unit down to the camera ground wire?
Not just what I have but the basics does give me a better understanding than the limited instructions that came with.
Finally I find a video that makes sense
Thank you for a detailed video now I can wire my camera. This is the best video yet on how to wire a backup camera.
so on radios that allow you to manually look at the reverse camera by pressing a button on the screen but also automatically display the reserve camera when backing up, I'd choose the second routing option?
Bingo.

The LED’s will burn all of the time if you run the “plug you called the power plug with the ground “ up at the accessory switch.

Plz correct if I am wrong. ?
Because I am installing one now.
Glad it helped
Thank you so much for your talent and easy explaining of what's being attached and why, plus the extra for setting it up if you have a boat or trailer behind. If you explained everything in life the same way we would be a better nation. P.s. wrote this letter after I installed the camera, both ways. IS AWESOME!!!!! THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!
That was the best back up camera explanation of all the videos I've watched, thanks.
Best tutorial on the web, in my opinion
The best video of the tons of i watched that clearly shows how the connections are made. Thanks buddy and wish you all the very best !!
Glad to have came across this video now I can finish hooking up my back up camera on my boss radio, only video I’ve seen with proper explanation
This is by far the best video I have seen describing what to do. Very clear instructions, good pacing, great examples. Thank you so much for this
Nice and simple and not a ton of unnecessary babbling.😊
Thank you!! I consider your video as The Best Video of Back Up Camera Installation on TH-cam!!!
You’re absolutely top notch at explaining this. No body better
Very clearly shows all wiring connections. Best I have found in three days of looking. Many thanks.
Thank you so much for this video. The instructions that came with my radio are terrible at best. This explains it perfectly!
