The car they don't want you to buy - Dacia Spring Electric

  • The Dacia Spring Electric is here to change the way we drive in cities. It's an electric car with a small footprint, but a big old heart... and a big boot too.
    This car is unashamedly designed for the city, in fact, the Dacia Spring Electric will barely go over 70mph, and that's only if you've got a good tailwind.
    In this video, Rich covers all the vital stats and info on a car that could become to cars what Lime Bikes are to bicycles.

    Dacia is great, many public services are using it in Croatia, from Mountain rescue service, Electric Company(Hep), firefighters, municipalities, cities, Taxi drivers, even the Bavarian mountain rescue. Its eco-g is also great. Some people really don't care about fancy stuff even if they could afford it. Im personally waiting for Bigster.

    First Dacia I drove was in Greece in the summer of '87. The battery in it was crap, it had only three lug nuts per wheel. Had my questions at first but it was well built, no squeaks or rattles. More than once it had a dead battery, but no problem! Hop into the boot and pull out the jack handle, turn on the ignition and are sure its in neutral with the parking brake set. Insert jack handle in front of the car in an inconspicuous hole, engage the main pulley of the engine and crank like hell. Always started. Next Dacia I drove fat forward to 2019 was the Duster, not bad for a cheap SUV and again well built. A few months ago I was speaking with the owner of the Renault-Dacia dealer and he informed me of a inexpecive electric that would be available in the spring of 2021, figuring it would be the little Renault, sister to the Nissan Leaf. Nope, its the Dacia Spring. He did not mention anything about it being strictly ride share until Fall of 2021 but marketing in Greece might be a bit different than any other part of the EU.

    I owned around 20 Dacia since 1990 bouth personal and for the company. They are strong, reliable cars not only cheap to run, especialy after 2007. I had other brands too but VW didn't pruve more reliable then Dacia and Fiat Doblos wore abysmal with those hidraulycal tighteners for the drive belt causing engine failure the moment oil got a bit low. At this moment I have 3 Dacias, 1 personal and 2 company. Me and my wife, we drive a Volkswagen Phaeton and a Dacia Logan, one is to look cool and go in vacation the other is to be sure we always have a working car :) I call the Phaeton "queen of the service" as is is always the nicest car there. In Romania depreciation is very low, my 2015 low millage Logan was 8500 euros and I can sell it today for 6000.The only car I had and I abused more then the Dacias was the Nissan Patrol but that's a totaly different car. I would encourage anyone that has reliability doubts about the brand to do some research and realise this is a hidden gem of the auto industry and I'm sure a electrical Dacia can only be more reliable.

I was very very tempted by an i3 Rex, but wavered in the end due to concerns about battery pack life... the Dacia Spring is the only new 'leccy car that's tweaked my interest - but I think I'll hang on until I hear more about Tesla's rumoured cheapie.

      @Brian-om2hh 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why the concerns regarding battery pack life? You would have either a 7 or 8 year warranty anyway, and even when the pack begins to lose some capacity - maybe at around 10 years old - then you'd have the pack checked and refurbished, with new cells replacing the less efficient ones. It normally costs around a third of the cost of a new pack...... Several companies in the UK are already offering this service..... There is a video on here of a 9 year old Leaf having a pack refurb. It cost the owner around £500, so he was well chuffed.

      LiFePO4 its verry safe,verry long life( 10 times the life of best/ newest Tesla gigafactory madde Liion.

    I really agree. Never understood why any car needs to run faster than say 130 km/h since almost no roads allow for faster speeds than that anyway (at least in Sweden where 120km is max). I also believe that while acceleration could be nice when overtaking I view it more as a luxury rather than a necessity. The range is quite important for us Nordic people since we need to factor in about 40-50% decrease in range during cold winter days (batteries do not like -20 C). I would say that about 300-400km range (in a temperate climate) would be acceptable for almost all trips in a Nordic environment, even during winter months. But range without cargo space is quite useless since you tend to need the range for vacation and long road trips with friends or family. For such a trip you will need the cargo space, for sure.

    Like you said. Just sometimes you need that extra cargo space. In the same way just sometimes you need the extra power, or the extra range.

    Especially in the city you really need acceleration. And I dont know about your place but here there are highways in city with speeds 80 or 100 km/h. You have to drive there to get from one part of the city to another.

    This will be the cheapest new car on the market because you pay half of the price and the Government will pay the other half. So, if they manage to sell this with 17000 euro, you will pay for it only 8500 euro, that is cheaper than any car.

    Your pronunciation of word Dacia is quite good.
    Quite happy that Dacia is making a car that people can afford. If this is even close to regular car prices then this will be amazing. Just do not expect great fit and finish as this is a utility car.
