I own a Dacia Spring since 2021 and It has 80.000 km already. It is an amaizing car. Now has a range of aprox. 170km in winter and aprox. 240km in summer. I paid for it 8800 Euro (in Romania - Dacia's brand native country). I can tell you a lot about it if you want.
Got one from the second preorder batch (May) in 2021 and got delivery in early December 2021. Crazy good car for city driving. (I own 3 more cars, ranging from bmw e91 , mx5 nb and vw troc + one motorcycle and in the city, i never drove them since). It is ideal for the kindergarden run, daily shopping and daily commutes. I even made 5 long trips (even over the borders) and got only 20 minutes late (on a 300km run) and 1.5h late on a 500km runn(compared to my i.c.e times). So far, in 33000km only from the difference in fuel price, I saved 4000euros + other maintanance that are not needed on a conventional car (clutch, belts, oil) so, almost 70% recovery of the initail investment. If it gets in some sort of problems, them I can use the battery as a bank for my solar and scrap the rest. But had no issue so far, so I think it is a great choice for everyone who lives at a house/cityhouse and can charge at home over night. Also, the 2kw charger doesn't put any strain on the electrical system and overnight is always back to 100%
good for you Viking, you're a resilient bloke who we all admire. Hope your wife and kids are doing as well as possible, daily watcher here, cheers mate
I own, since the end of 2021, a Dacia Spring, for which I payed the "enormous" price of 8,000 euros through state subsidies (in Romania), and I also have a "gas station" (240V socket) in my yard. In 2 years and 30,000 km I had exactly 0 problems with it, and an average energy consumption of 11 kWh/100 km, with a cost equivalent to 1.5 l of gasoline per 100 km, compared to the old combustion car, which consumed at least 10 l of gasoline per 100 km and that broke at least once a month. In just 5 years, the entire cost of my electric car will be amortized only from the savings made at the price paid for fuel. I say that it is always worth buying an electric car instead of an inefficient combustion engine (the efficiency of any combustion engine is below 40%, the rest goes into heat and waste, while an electric one is around 80%). In a year or two, at least 4 electric models will appear in Europe (Citroen e-C3, Renault 5, Tesla Model 2 and VW id.2) with good performance and with a price below 25,000 euros before subsidies.
Dacia is a Romanian brand, but Spring in made in China. So... another Trojan Horse. And another coffin in once was "industrialized world". Because China has most resources. See you in the lines in front of unemployment offices.

First I like to wish you and family good health and properties. Yes instead making super power EV with insane acceleration, better to produce a EV that have high efficiency dont need super high acceleration or high top speed. In Thailand Neta is making budget and high efficiency car for every family, like Neta V Aya, Neta X and Neta S. With lesser power motor but still comparable with ICE engine output, and lighter car due to smaller battery. And this EV are cheaper or almost sama price to the same equivalent ICE segment. And they dont cost a lot to maintain, not like ICE engine.... and these are not subcar, they are actually full real car with ADAS and airbags.

I've just looked at the oficial Dacia site here in Portugal and the Spring starts at €20.400. There are no gov't subsidies now. I do wish they cost the price you say. You see lots of them here on the road. I've talked to owners and while they have a 220km range in the city, at 13kw/100km, on the highway the range is closer to 130km at 120km/h. If you have had any of the trial shots, don't stress your heart with aggressive exercise. The damage from the spike appears to be permanent. Just saying.
The Dacia Spring is also one of the most dangerous cars according to NCAP safety tests, only beaten out by the Renault Zoe. It's kind of impressive and horrifying that Renault and Dacia (who are the same company) manage to occupy the bottom safety ratings in Euro NCAP by some margin. The main safety failings are active emergency braking, collision avoidance which in a city car is probably the worst of all. Also I don't know where this €13,000 figure is coming from but in most countries it will be selling for €18,500 or more in the basic configuration with the lousy 26kwh battery. Maybe it's fine for some uses but I think if I were after a cheap city car I'd be hanging on to see if the Seagull or something like it were to appear in the next year.
You can only get a 5 star Euro NCAP rating by fitting Lane Assist Warning and all sorts of other “safety” features that just get turned off. Wouldn’t read too much into the low NCAP rating.
@@philiptaylor7902 Especially not for a tiny town/city commuter car, as impact speeds in any accident would be lower at town and city traffic speeds. The average speed of commuter traffic in London is 8 mph.....
@@philiptaylor7902 Exactly NCAP has become a joke. The average person are not interested in all the modern annoying garbage that most people turn off out of annoyance and irritation. All the average person is interested in with these ratings bodies is how safe a vehicle is when involved in an accident and that's it. To start condemning perfectly good safe vehicles that are more affordable to the less well off is dangerous. These vehicles are a damn site safer than many other modes of transport
@@philiptaylor7902 NCAP is a moving standard that incorporates safety technology as it enters the main stream. It takes into account survivability of driver, passengers, pedestrians and collision prevention mechanisms. It also takes the attitude that safety is something every car should have regardless of price. And yes I absolutely would read something into a low NCAP rating because Renault / Dacia DOMINATES the bottom end of the board. If you're so stupid and selfish to ignore its rating just to save a few quid then more fool you.
So a baby car for $14k. Hi Sam, Could you please supply some details on recalls for Tesla vehicles in Oz for 2023. I hear that Tesla were way in from on the worst ICE makes (Mercedes).
Dacia Spring is 20,000 Euro. Incentives are almost over in EU. In France you can buy a Sandero for 14,000 EUR! For 2 euro/liter and 9l/100km in the city vs 16kWh/100km for 0.25 euro/kWh, you need to drive Spring for 42,000 km to make the difference. This means at 20 km/day around 5 years. If you deliver pizza and you make 100km/day I think it can make sens. I don't know from where 12,000 number comes. Probably if you consider incentives (which will be near 0 next this year in EU). I don't know if Sam added VAT.
Correct, Belgium the Springs starts at € 20.990. Let's be realistic, the UK is not really Europe and their cars have the steering wheel on the wrong side :-)
I've looked closely at those two cars and while the Spring will be much cheaper in the long run, any car should last at least 200.000km, in the Sandero you can do long trips at highway speeds and tow a 800kg trailer. While one is good for the city the other one is best as a regular family car, with higher costs for gas and maintenance.
The fossil Dacia car has bodywork like the Citroen 2CV. Put your finger on it an the entire panel will flex in like a biscuit tin. Super, super thin but is that Important? If the UK gets this car at the £1 to 1 Euro exchange rate (a rip off) then it will be almost 10K cheaper than the MG. WOW. I might buy one just as a spare. Honestly that is a give away price.
You can't use this in Norway. 40kw charging are a joke. The standard in the new energy stations are 300kw. The range in -20 c ??? They say its 110 km in -10 c. And the heater???
Oh my Goodness . Please do take care of your Health. Very nice looking little Electric SUV indeed ! I would love to buy one, That is, if the Canadian Government allows to import affordable Electric Vehicles to CANADA? 😃💖🚙💖🔋🌞💯👌 😉💖⚡️🌏✌️
@@plau2007 i had a Sandero before. Spring is only a City car and is very very cheap to drive smth similar to 1.5% consumption. Sandero takes 10% consumption And we make 20.000-25.000 km/ year and we feel the economy of consumption, no service, easy to drive in town, easy to park I have a MYSR for long drives though Now Sandero in 14.000$ Spring is 9.000$ = 14.000$ - 5.000$ incentives
This Dacia spring is ok in the city, but too weak and slow for highway or normal roads. It's for city only. You need to have another car for longer trips.
This is EXACTLY what is needed if they want EV adoption. But it needs to be made in the EU or America and be fully covered by personal data privacy protection laws equal or better than GDPR.
@@G_C340 Very nice then! I saw nothing indicating that the Dacia was made in the EU. If I was in Europe I would totally drive over and buy one. Now all we need is for the Dacia to be sold in the US at similar prices and with some kind of guarantee that we'd get GDPR protection. If the EU was smart they should create a "foreign GDPR certification" program that EU companies can sign up for voluntarily that extends the GDPR regulation (and penalties for violations) to them when they operate in other nations and gives the right to use a "GDPR-compliant" logo for their products. This would make a lot of consumers prefer products made by EU companies over products made by other nations. Very profitable for the EU and very valuable for privacy-conscious consumers from other nations.
i don't think so. it is a niche car. many people want a better car. it is a cheap id.2 and e-c3 that people want. better to buy a 2nd hand id.2 than a new spring. and cheap subsidized energy for production and slave labor is not the way to go. however, electricity cost in central europe arrived at the peak and from now on electricity cost will go down slowely because of renewables. battery manufacturing is very energy intensive because a high degree of automation. 50% of a sodium ion battery is energy costs. drycoating and cheaper electricity will bring that down as well.
@@stefanweilhartner4415 Not me, EVs are too immature still. Given the many issues with EVs that will likely continue for likely a decade, I much prefer buying a fuel-efficient and reliable ICE as my "real car", plus the cheapest possible EV as the family daily driver. And 10 years from now... buy a mature EV that fits my needs and is not an "experiment" by the manufacturer.
In 2024 the European Dacia Spring will be replaced by a new model. This second generation is in fact already sold in China under the brand and name *Dongfeng Nano Box.* The interior is a huge improvement over the current version.
A Dacia Spring is half the size of an id.3 and is a city car this a cheap basic low range car. The id.3 is bigger than the Golf and when we bought ours it was £3k more than an equivalent spec Golf.
You can not compare Dacia Spring with VW ID.3. Spring is very low quolity car. It is like 2005 Opel Corsa. You need to see it and drive to feel the difference. Suspension, noise level, interior, external, no active battery cooling/heating… it is shit guys ;)
The Dacia Spring prize is Amazing. But the Spring is not comparable to the ID3. Its i citycar with low range and low charging speed. A good, cheap second car. The ID3 is also a good only car. More range and actualy usable fast charging. With more space and far better tech. The Id3 is an electric Golf, the Spring an electric up. The ID3 price should be coming down to and it probably will
Dacia is pronounced 'datchia'. One snag of the original version was an abysmal fast charging speed unless you went for the top spec model. this limited its use for long journeys.
The tears of cope from the haters keep coming harder. Prices of EVs will keep coming down for many years to come. It won't be long until cheap EVs litter the streets like electric scooters. I'm here for it.

Dacia is a Romanian brand. You can go to google translate enter the word, select Romanian and listen to the pronunciation. Thank you
Pensioners will snap these up , tootling round their own town , shops , friends , relatives, day out 😊
But not in the US.
@@rozonoemi9374 another $1000 cheaper in Ireland 🇮🇪 😉
NCAP is meaningless now
You can only get a 5 star Euro NCAP rating by fitting Lane Assist Warning and all sorts of other “safety” features that just get turned off.
Googled uk price statting from £18k.
So 12k is not right.
Too bad the range kills it for anything beyond your local shopping
@@ttkddry Or maybe are sold without steering wheel!
@@antoniocruz8083I think that, If you have a petrol car and you drive a lot in the city, Spring makes sens.
If not, Sandero is a better option.
@@ttkddry Actually you will find its the right side 🙂
New version coming this year (UK at least) so they're probably just clearing the stock?
Once the EV having range around 300-350 km will cost around 12-15 km I will buy one. This 230 km is little too short for me.
Dacia spring has nothing in common with ID.3 which is 2 segment above.
Exactly! Dacia Spring needs 20sec for 100km/h.
Not available in RHD. Maybe, one day...
I would love to buy one,
That is, if the Canadian Government allows to import affordable Electric Vehicles to CANADA?
😃💖🚙💖🔋🌞💯👌
😉💖⚡️🌏✌️
I have one. I payed 8.000$ because of incentives
Which will be near 0 next year.
Let's see. 20,000 EURO Dacia Spring or 14,000 EURO Dacia Sandero.
Dacia Spring needs 20 sec for 100 km/h!
@@plau2007 i had a Sandero before. Spring is only a City car and is very very cheap to drive smth similar to 1.5% consumption. Sandero takes 10% consumption
And we make 20.000-25.000 km/ year and we feel the economy of consumption, no service, easy to drive in town, easy to park
I have a MYSR for long drives though
Now Sandero in 14.000$
Spring is 9.000$ = 14.000$ - 5.000$ incentives
How safe can this vehicle be? I suspect it would be the lowest.
It's probably less crucial for what is a town/city commuter car, as impact speeds in any accident will be lower...
Need in canada
This Dacia spring is ok in the city, but too weak and slow for highway or normal roads. It's for city only. You need to have another car for longer trips.
This is EXACTLY what is needed if they want EV adoption.
But it needs to be made in the EU or America and be fully covered by personal data privacy protection laws equal or better than GDPR.
Romania IS in the EU!
And 10 years from now... buy a mature EV that fits my needs and is not an "experiment" by the manufacturer.
this car in france 22k to 23k euro
And we can buy it in the US when?
After they built it in Mexico
In 2024 the European Dacia Spring will be replaced by a new model. This second generation is in fact already sold in China under the brand and name *Dongfeng Nano Box.* The interior is a huge improvement over the current version.
A Dacia Spring is half the size of an id.3 and is a city car this a cheap basic low range car. The id.3 is bigger than the Golf and when we bought ours it was £3k more than an equivalent spec Golf.
i never drove it on the road )) 7:30
You can not compare Dacia Spring with VW ID.3. Spring is very low quolity car. It is like 2005 Opel Corsa. You need to see it and drive to feel the difference. Suspension, noise level, interior, external, no active battery cooling/heating… it is shit guys ;)
Forecasting £18000 in uk
Cracking deal
The Dacia Spring prize is Amazing. But the Spring is not comparable to the ID3. Its i citycar with low range and low charging speed. A good, cheap second car. The ID3 is also a good only car. More range and actualy usable fast charging. With more space and far better tech.
The Id3 is an electric Golf, the Spring an electric up. The ID3 price should be coming down to and it probably will
For your heart's sake please investigate a Whole Foods Plant Based diet. We don't want to lose you.
We need laws that say cars are priced the same in all countries. Stop the dumping.
Dacia is pronounced 'datchia'. One snag of the original version was an abysmal fast charging speed unless you went for the top spec model. this limited its use for long journeys.
Its 0 to 60 is 16+ sec with driver only. I am sorry but it won't be for anything but within city.
Please look after your self Sam, stress builds.
Dacia. Does it have Lucas electrics?
I thought Chinese cars were crap. This will be a whole new level
The tears of cope from the haters keep coming harder. Prices of EVs will keep coming down for many years to come. It won't be long until cheap EVs litter the streets like electric scooters. I'm here for it.
BYD Seagull will be cheap when it sells in Europe
I don't know about other people. But for me a 1 star stafety means i would never buy this. By family safety it worth more than a bargain
Dr Caldwell Esselstyn, former olympic rower, has a long track record of reversing heart disease in patients on a plant based diet. He has many videos on TH-cam. Fellow Aussie TH-camr durianrider is super fit on a plant based diet. He just posted a video pacing with a Tour Down Under cycling pro at age 45 up a big climb in Adelaide.
That's all good and well but the thing is a death trap. Have a look at its safety ratings
Did you watch the whole video? It's literally in there.
Mostly when things go on sale ...someone is trying to make money on the junk you want to get rid of ...gonna really regret that blown pipeline
That car can’t be any less safe than my Prius, can it?
I would love to buy a decent inexpensive EV for my short commute to work.
Undoubtedly great value but with a 1 star ENCAP rating, not for me.
the price is 20k euro btw
Everything comes at a price. Just check the ridiculous crash test results from Euro NCAP. Dacia Spring get 1/5 stars.
Olive oil - 20mils a day with anything :)
Great deals cheers mate
The Chinese economy is so far down the gurgler, that tossing them a bit of money is likely to be of benefit for Europe as well.
They probably want to get rid of them to make way for a new model.
One star safety rating a major red flag.
A lot of the safety rating is scored on gizmos these days not just the physical crash worthiness
Amazing how not paying 60 bucks a hr to a button jokey. You can make a sub 20k car. Seriously add some power say 240ho and a 150 mike range I would sell non stop as people's daily beatter
€20.700 base price here
In real world driving this car only make max 120km on a charge in the winter (Minus degrees)
Not sure where you get your prices from. Still starting from 21.000€ over here. Low value for money given the other options on the market nowadays. Just take a look at the citroen e-C3 for 24.000€
In Germany it starts from 12.750€ including a dealers incentive.
@@florianmallok7770 So that’s about 23.000€ excluding any government stipends.
@@jojacobs4355 No, it's a total of 12.750€. There is no gov money anymore.

More to the point,I hope your wife is doing ok?
max speed 125 km/h tho... it is really a city car still, yes now the price for that is really good but still not a FULL car
And 20 sec for 100km/h.
And it costs 20,000 not 12,000. 12,000 is with incentives.
Which will disappear next year (or will be near 0).
