  • Most Shakti'ers use their acupressure mat on their back. That sounds pretty easy... But sometimes the first session on a spikey mat can be daunting! 😅
    There are questions like:
    - How do I actually begin❓
    - How long should I lie on my Shakti Mat❓
    - When does the initial discomfort sensation decrease❓
    - Why does The Shakti Mat make my skin red and tingly❓
    - How do I roll off my Mat❓
    - Is there such a thing as 'too much' time on The Shakti Mat❓
    OR: Where do you use the Shakti Mat at all? On a soft surface, in bed, or on the floor? This can effect the intensity as well 🔥
    So.... How was your first Shakti Session? What was the most helpful tip? Tell us in the comments 😊👇

    I received my Advanced Shakti today and completed my first 20 minute session. After telling myself "no way was this happening" for the first 15 seconds, it was a breeze!
    I'm 67, have had lung surgery a lumbar fusion, a ruptured colon and subsequent colostomy and finally, gallbladder removal with a colostomy reversal. I also have peripheral neuropathy and autonomic neuropathy.
    I've got a feeling this will help me in so many ways! I intend to start meditation again too!
    I'm already thinking of getting the Shakti pillow!
    I love that Shakti donates 10% of profits to causes important to humanity, that they source local craftspeople, that they are environmentally aware and responsible.
    Thanks for your great product and earth/people oriented business interests.
    Namaste

    I can’t get enough of my mat. The first time I laid on it I almost cried because it feels so good. I never have pain from it, just relief. I wonder if my autonomic failure has something to do with that. Thank you so much Shakti.

I meditate at least 15 minutes every day and have done so for over 10 years. I’ve also dabbled in other energy healing modalities so excited to try.

    First time. I tried my medium mat and neck roll last night, wearing a thin t-shirt. The points feel super sharp against your hands. That makes it seem scarier, I think. Once you get the mat and yourself in position and lay down *slowly*, it's amazing. I got to about 4 minutes. Tonight I'm hoping for 10. It made concentated pain points sort of... disperse.
    I moved the neck roll around to get at trigger points - carefully and slowly. It wasn't easy but my neck's range of motion increased by about 1/3 in each direction afterwards. I'm a fan! Guessing it gets even better with continual use.

    I received mine two days ago, got to use it for the first time yesterday. Within minutes I was about ready to drift off into a nap.
    What I was really happy to notice, is that the mat tended to aggravate on old injury at the base of my neck. I’ve been looking for a natural handling to restore proper nerve flow past the damaged area, and I could tell that the Shakti mat was doing its job from the very start.

    Oh my, this was PAINFUL. I purchased a Shakti mat from their website as it was suggested to me by a yoga instructor. I have muscle issues due to an autoimmune condition and am on steroids, at the same time, also have back issues so she thought this would be good. I literally couldn't cope with 5 seconds as it was so painful but it was pain around my shoulder blades mostly so I put a thin towel on that area and tried again just on my lower back. Much better and I am proud that I managed over 10 minutes. I got up incorrectly and so that was another load of pain, but I will absolutely do this every day to build up my tolerance. also tried calf muscles due to cramp from the drugs.. I am optimistic and terrified all at the same time.

    • @kerryeady4479
      @kerryeady4479 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A friend recommended I cover the mat with a piece of thin cotton knit - thin tshirt weight - and use it on my bed until I get used to it. The cushioning definitely helps. The other thing I found is I can do smaller accupressure point on my hands and arms with the matt for instant back pain relief. I too have autoimmune issues and chronic pain.

    I started using my mat 2 days ago and decided to go all out and lie on it bare back straight away as wanted to get all the benefits. It was painful for the first 1-2 minutes (wanted to get off!) but once that passed it became bearable and just a prickling sensation. You can feel the warmth and the muscles relaxing so it does what it means to do. I suppose the pain will lessen after more uses. Plan to use it every night but haven't used the pillow as yet but will later on.

    I got this today and just used it. I have to say I feel great after the first use! I can see that its working. I have a question though. When I lay down I felt my heart pumping heavy. • @ShaktiMat1
      @ShaktiMat1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Laura! Well done on your perseverance with The Shakti Mat so far!
      The Shakti Mat may cause some temporary discomfort in the initial stages of use. Trust us when we say it does take some persistence - and the feeling will subside! We all have different levels of sensitivity, so it may take people more or less time to adjust to their Shakti Mat. This normally happens when the blood rushes to the area of impact. Nothing to worry! Keep going!

    Thank you for BEing you! Why do I feel detox/flu symptoms after using my mats only 3 times? Toxins built up toxins in fascia?!

    • @ShaktiMat1
      @ShaktiMat1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nicole, Thank you for the message! The Shakti Mat can affect your body because it invigorates your circulation, ‘getting everything moving’. The spikes on the mat are designed to press up into the muscles and stimulate the acupoints in the body - this results in a rebalancing effect in the body, which can sometimes result in some initial side effects. This is generally the case if the user has a lot of tension stored in their body. 😊
      To minimize the impact of these side effects, we recommend drinking lots of water.✨

    I use this regularly and it is amazing! However, I want to say that it's not correct what she's saying that you can stay that long on the mat. If you go over 20 minutes, the next day you'll feel so tired that you pretty much don't have any energy for anything. I tried this a couple of times, not realizing why I was so tired after staying for about an hour on the mat (I built up to an hour over a few months). Caution: do NOT stay on it for more than 20 minutes! You'll thank me later:)

      @ShaktiMat1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Diarmuid - thanks for the lovely feedback 🧡 Apologies for our delayed response... Your comment somehow slipped our radar! 😅 Great that your wife is also interested in joining the Shakti community.
      Unfortunately we do not recommend use of the Shakti Mat to women who are pregnant, especially in the first trimester. The Shakti Mat uses acupressure, which has been used to induce labor in some cases. Always consult your medical professional before using the Mat. However, The Shakti Mat is a wonderful and completely safe tool in the postpartum stage. New mum's may suffer from back tension, tightness in hips, sleeplessness, stress and more - all for which The Shakti Mat can provide great natural support.
      Here is some useful information on acupressure and pregnancy if you want to learn more:

      Hope this helps provide clarity! 😊

    • @ShaktiMat1
      @ShaktiMat1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Lark! After using a Shakti Mat, the skin will become red simply due to increased circulation. Anytime you put deep pressure on your muscles, you'll notice your skin gets red. When you put the pressure of 6,000 spikes on your skin, it will naturally get red and hot! But don't let that scare you away. @ShaktiMat1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Sebastian, when the spikes dig into your skin, they causes an increased blood flow in that area, making it red. Don't worry! It's completely normal. 🌵

    • @ShaktiMat1
      @ShaktiMat1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Taptapia - exciting! Thanks so much for the support 🧡 We recommend lying on your Shakti Mat, in bed, for 20 minutes or so. If you're lucky, you might even find you nod off to sleep on your Mat! This is completely normal. To enhance your relaxation ritual you can try reading a book while lying on your Mat. Let us know how you go 😊

    The worst part is when you get off of the mat. Like your skin is teared off. Think I have to get used to that part, being a beginner 😅

    • @ShaktiMat1
      @ShaktiMat1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey @hennieboesveldable, we completely understand how getting off The Shakti Mat can be an exciting challenge on its own. We all tend to have our personal ways to peel ourselves from The Shakti. Some like to get it over with and sit up quickly (think of that way like ripping off a bandaid) while others slowly roll of it. Some lift up one side of the body, then fold the mat over (spikes to spikes) to lower the body, while others say that it is not nearly so stingy and sore if you try to get off slowly! Hope you find the best way for yourself!🧡

      Hi Milian - great q! Rolling up your Mat is a great way to store and transport it. If you have a tie or elastic band handy, this can help secure it. Others carry it in a tote bag or Shakti Happiness Bag. If you are taking it on a holiday, you can also remove the foam and roll up your Mat in your suitcase. Use the Mat on a bed or soft surface at your destination. Removing the foam can help save space in your bag 😊

    So you have a bad back, you cause extra pain (and obviously tension) to your already painful muscles. In order to increase ‘blood circulation’ and temperature of your back. As if a hot water bottle can’t do exactly the same without ‘4-6 minutes’ of actively hurting yourself and further straining the muscles. (And not just using pain, but using prolonged pain on muscles that will be tensed, and therefore less likely to relax to benefit from the ‘increased blood circulation’!) A back massage can heat up the area, and relax the muscles so they can actually benefit from the gentle pressure being applied, ie loosening knots, without causing redness- why? Because it’s highly unlikely that you back pain is from your skin! It goes red because you’ve stabbed yourself! I’m pretty sure there is adequate ’blood flow’ to my heart- I don’t have bright red skin on my chest though!
    When you warm up an area of your body (eg. with a bath or heat pack) your body reacts by sending your blood to your extremities to cool you down and to regulate your internal temperature. This is helpful for the muscles in that area as it widens blood vessels, thus increasing blood flow. This can help by not only relaxing the muscles but the nerve endings, stimulated by the warm sensation, stop sending the ‘pain’ signals, and instead allowing them to sense the new, warm sensation.
    This warming effect is as a result of applying heat, and is not to be confused with the rush of blood you experience when you injure your self, for example, scrapes, bruises or by lying on a metric ton of spikes. When the body senses injury it sends blood to the area to help heal the injured area. This causes your skin to redden. It is also a natural reflex for the muscles in the injured area to tense up.
    All that this medieval torture device is doing is making your skin hurt and causing your already tense muscles limit their blood flow even further by tensing until they eventually tire, (4-6 minutes). I dare say that the pressure they then may endure may well have a potentially different effect to that which they’ve just been subjected to, but the idea that damaging your skin will help a bad back is ludicrous. If anything, it’s taking that desired extra blood flow and sending it to your skin in an attempt to deal with the overwhelming pain signals your nerve endings are emitting.
    You’ve taken a tense muscle, tensed it even more when lowering yourself to the floor and then fought its chance of relaxing when lying down by hurting your skin.
    The only reason you’d feel better after using this is because you have finally stopped using it! Gimmicks and useless products are one thing but pedalling lies to sell a product that causes more pain? How do you sleep at night? Not on one of these mats, that’s for sure.
    Can you imagine if world class athletes used this technique?! ‘Oh, you pulled a muscle mate? No worries, come here, I’ll just stab you with this fork’ 🙄

    • @MarcusHickson
      @MarcusHickson 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Actually I suspect it has more to do with modulating pain pathways via the spinal gates, and reducing background efferent tone by the same mechanism. There is a reactive vasodilation but my guess is that this is dermal/subdermal and doesn't effect the muscles themselves. Look up TENS pain management, it's evidence based has a similar mechanism (but using electric current). I applaud your scepticism by the way.

      Hi Deb - thank you for taking the time to share your honest feedback with us. The Shakti Mat, or acupressure, isn't for everyone. We encourage people to make the decision for themselves whether it's right for them. There is a wonderful acupressure group on Facebook "Acupressure Mats - Tips, Questions & Community" that is great for learning more about acupressure mats and peoples experiences with them. You might find some clarity there 😊. Our intention is to improve the wellbeing of both those who makes the mats and those who use them. But if The Shakti Mat isn't right for you, then that's okay! Thanks again for sharing your opinion.

    I'm going to review all your videos as I got off on a false start. After receiving my mat I followed the instructions, however on the third session a sadistic family member thought it would be fun to step up on my belly full weight as I was on the mat. Hey Tim, Well done for trying! The first couple of times you use your Shakti mat, it may feel uncomfortable. However the longer you spend on your mat, the more comfortable you will feel. Acupressure can be a powerful experience: during the first few minutes of using your Shakti, it is common to feel prickly. You can wear a thin t-shirt to make your experience less hurting.

Then did 24 minutes and struggled to not fall asleep toward the end :-). Very preliminary results but I was encouraged after initially being bummed out by the pain.

    I've had an acupressure mat (hasn't got Shakti written on it but looks just like the ones you have, mine is black) for about 15 years. I bought it from the person I used to have monthly massages with but it didn't come with any information. I used it a couple of times and then it got forgotten. Recently my back hasn't been to happy so I pulled out my mat about a week ago. After I lay on it for about 5 minutes, I then do my yoga nidra relaxation on it. All in all I'm on it most days for 30 about minutes, on bare skin. I've come searching for information on the mat so I'm rapt I've found your channel.

    • @ShaktiMat1
      @ShaktiMat1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, that is a fantastic question! The Best Selling Shakti Mat® is an acupressure tool that provides users with so many benefits✨. It has thousands of plastic spikes on it, which during a Shakti session, apply pressure on the focused part of the body. Most users start by using it on the back. This process leads to de-stressing and relaxation as the spikes work to hydrate the tissues, enhance circulation to the area, and rejuvenate the whole body. 😊Think of it as a supplemental tool to massage or acupuncture.

      Hi Debbie - good question! The Shakti Mat can be very intense when placed against 'boney' areas of the body. We recommend wearing pants or placing a sheet over the Mat before trying to target the knee caps. Lie face down on the floor with your knees on the Mat. Use your arms to slowly lift yourself up, this will increase the pressure on your knees specifically. Find the spot that works for you 😊
