Super Mario Kart is the first in a popular series of games starring the Mario cast racing go-karts. This run aims to get record times in all tracks at 150cc difficulty. This is achieved mostly by jumping straight into walls, bottomless pits, and lava, among many other things. Mushrooms are also used frequently due to their mysteriously friction-free propulsion powers. A high amount of wall-bouncing is required.
This run is over a minute and a half faster than the previous published run, due to new exploits of the definition of a lap.

Put yourself in the shoes of one of the other drivers. You've got your go-kart all gassed up. You hauled it all the way out to the track and everybody's lined up... you're all ready for a fun little race. The light turns green and everyone except the mushroom guy takes off. Mushroom guy, however, just starts driving into a wall.
Under 10 seconds into the race, he declares himself the winner.
Fuck that guy, man.
Well more accurately, the race organizers declare that what he did was fine, and that he's the winner.
Declaring yourself the winner is one thing, having the officials declare you the winner when all you did was just drive into a wall repeatedly is a whole other level of rage.
Imagine how commentators would react to this nonsense

@@MeadejonesThere are no checkpoints for the game to see that the lap is being actually driven, so theoretically you can just bounce between the finish line and win.

Wow! Playing as a kid, I always felt that you kept your speed a tad longer if you bounced off a wall! To see it actually being used as a TAS maneuver makes me proud of myself!

Watching the track overview screen during this run is more entertaining than I could have imagined.
You know I’ve always figured it must be insanely easy to glitch Super Mario Kart, but I never really went and looked at the glitches for it. I was not disappointed by this video.

lol sometimes I love TAS speedruns. Simply because this stuff is so far above my head, my brain just implodes with each viewing, not being able to comprehend what it just witnessed. Amazing.

@@alyssaa- Every computer player character has their own items, peach and toad have mushrooms that make others small, Mario and Luigi a star, and Bowser spits fire etc

Yes, but actually the "new" ultra shortcut (it was discovered like 2 years ago, I could be wrong) implies a cut similar to that (even if you have to do the first part anyway in order to skip the first key checkpoint and be considered by the game in the checkpoint region 0). Funny enough, this ultra has never been done without TAS, also because, if not done correctly, (as far as it seems to me) it doesn't save anything..

How did you have 150cc unlocked from the start? Is it some kind of cheat code that you enter on startup?
How is it always getting mushrooms and feathers right when they need it?
Probably some sort of item manipulation glitch, or maybe they just get lucky. After all, this is a TAS. It’s not in real-time.

is this an emulator? cause idk how to record the screen in HD on snes? we use to record our games back in the day on vhs, but?
yeah! with how TAS works, you run the game on a computer, going through every frame to put in the inputs you want to do. it's much easier to do this using an emulator than with official hardware

I think Mode 7 "fill with tile 0" setting is broken in this emulator (you can see the grass beyond the track doesn't transform like it should)
