The player has unlimited amount of save slots. basically, you save the game at the moment you get the mystery box. then you simply keep loading the game until you get what item you needed. same with how he seemingly manages to execute all the tricks. but at the back end of it, he probably tried doing it countless times until he gets the perfect run.
The probability of getting all mushrooms on the first track alone was 1 in 1,048,576... or at least it would have been if the random number generator hadn't been so easy to trick...
In this version of Mario Kart if you press I think X it stops the random selection. If you’re experienced enough you can stop it at the item you want. I was often able to get what I wanted by timing it correctly. This is also a TAS so even easier
