    Love my V1 - owned one for 17 years. Been upgraded a 'few' times over the years. Best story about the arrows - got a alert - slowed down and a Ohio State Trooper passed in west bound lane. Arrows went from front to side to rear then disappeared. After he passed me - some where down the road he did a flip. Rear arrow lit up and the V1 started to beep again. Could tell he was in a hurry and was coming up pretty fast. He went by me and disappeared. T
    he V1 has one if not the best false filtering of the new collision radars used in vehicles.

    Hey I was talking with my cousins husband who is a state trooper, I live in Ohio around the Dayton area, he said they really don't like k band radars because if you are are trying to get a reading for a car and the car behind the one you are reading is going lets say 80 miles an hour it can actually display that speed for the car in front of it. Surprisingly he uses an x band.

  • @VortexRadar
    @VortexRadar  10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Matthew, not necessarily. My car HID's and it never triggers the V1. It's moreso other cars pointed at it. What car do you have? Not all blind spot systems will make it alert. Some, like Audis, can be addressed by turning K POP mode off. Others can benefit from turning TMF on. You can also just pull the blind spot fuse as well to disable it outright. :D

    Very intricate review! I just bought one online after receiving 2 speeding tickets in less than 3 weeks.. Haha the cops seem to have it out for my 2010 e60 m5. I hope this will give me a chance to stop giving the state of California all my money. Thanks again for making the video and breaking down the majority of its features!

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tom Do Thanks! Sorry to hear about the tickets. The V1 is a great choice against radar. You'll also want to get a set of laser jammers since laser is heavily used by the CHP as well. The AntiLaser Priority is a good choice for jammers, and you'll want to set up your V1 to help reduce all the false alerts you'll see down there. I've posted a series of videos on how to quiet down the V1 that you may want to check out as well. :) Welcome to the club!

    • @H1llrg

      TravelCam1111 Aren't laser jammers illegal in California?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rob Hill So is speeding. ;) The penalty for speeding is actually worse than the penalty for getting caught with jammers. If you JTK properly, they'll be none the wiser and you'll be just fine.

I've got a 1000 mile road trip coming up and am excited to make my purchase soon. I hope the V1s highway range is as good as I've read and I think the arrows will really help me on the interstate. Hello Vortex I really appreciate your precious time and detailed input in every device? I live in GA and am a current owner of Valentine One Radar with V1.8.A-POP2 with Euro Mode Detector which I had purchased in Jan 2010. Since its time to upgrade I was watching your videos reading your post by fallowing the two popular forums. I have narrowed it down to New updated version of Valentine One which, If I buy will use it in conjunction with YaV1 my Galaxy Note 8 tablet with Custom mount from padholdr or Max360 and not worry about to much customization. your Input will be appreciated Will be sending you small donation soon.

      +Amit Himani What version of the V1 do you have? 3.893? You can skip to about 2:50 in this video to see how to check: th-cam.com/video/0dxBN12S9PI/w-d-xo.html The V1 is awesome and you're already familiar with it, plus you have a Note already so that's appealing. If you set it up with YaV1, you'll get better performance and fewer false alerts. The Max360 can do this more easily for you, but if you're comfortable with pairing your detector with a phone, you'll get better performance and less falsing with the V1/YaV1 than the Max360. The Max360 is simply the easier and more integrated solution. If you do want to upgrade your V1, check the upgrade cost online. This video walks you through it th-cam.com/video/hnwxTFTEznM/w-d-xo.html. Used V1's sell for lots of $$ so you'll also want to see if it saves you money to buy a new one and sell your older one versus sending your current one in for an upgrade. That should square you away. Thank you for your donation as well! It really does help me to continue being able to do this for you. :)

      +Vortex Radar Thanks for your quick reply. I checked with V1 Research and they want me to send it in AND pay $280.00 for upgrade. I rather sell it and buy a brand new one for $399.00. Its really hard to decide which one should I get. Other thing bothers me is that V1 Research has a new patent pending for over 2 years for the newer generation V1. I hope I don't buy that right before their launch.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Amit Himani If it's $280 for the upgrade, sell it and buy a brand new one. You'll save loads of $$. As far as waiting, don't bother. Mike V is slow as molasses and is close to retirement. He doesn't seem to care about rapid development. That's what others are doing, not Valentine.
      As far as the V1 vs Max360, have you watched my comparison video? th-cam.com/video/-PHCnjfk8T8/w-d-xo.html

    This was the best review that I have seen for the V1 or any detector!! Please keep it up, You're well spoken and use great logic. I love my V1, and I don't typically speed, I just like to know what EMF sources are around me. The bogey counter and direction arrows are the best features, I don't know why escort does not use those features, or maybe it is patent issue? if that's the case, it should probably have expired by now. Have a good day.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      searchgoogleRDwolff Thank you. Though the arrows aren't totally necessary, they do help tremendously IMHO. Escort's stance has long been "Well if it beeps just slow down. We design our detectors to stay silent for false alerts and only beep for real alerts. Arrows aren't necessary." Now that Valentine's patents for the arrows have expired, Escort would have to backtrack on everything they'd said before regarding arrows if they want to now add them into their detector.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mylf IHeartHaters The main volume knob changes the unmuted volume. The outer knob around the main one adjusts the "muted" volume (which isn't really muted but actually whatever you set the outer knob to) and pressing the main button "mutes" the detector for the current alerts.

    I bought an Escort Redline earlier this year. I love the awesome sensitivity. I sometimes think it may be so sensitive that a KA Band alert comes too early leaving myself asking "Okay so how close am I exactly?" and "Where is the cop?" The ramp up on the Redline isn't the best ether. Now I'm considering the Valentine One for its patented unique features.
    If you were to choose a Valentine One against an Escort Redline,
    Do you think the Escort Redline is better for its extreme sensitivity or the Valentine one for its arrows and situation awareness? How much better does the Escort Redline actually perform in range and sensitivity against the V1? Which detector has better ramp up? Thanks!

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ryker Bowen Really depends on your personality. They're both awesome products. I happen to prefer the V1, but what's right for you depends on you and your needs. You'll find lots of different tests results on rdforum.org if you want range and sensitivity tests. The V1's rampup is one of the best in the biz, but the Redline's is quite good too now that it got the BS/RDR upgrade.

    Hi, a side from the Euro mode and TMF mode, is there much difference from the 1.7 model?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      wang dong Huge difference. After 1.7 came 1.8 and 1.85. www.rdforum.org/showthread.php?t=7830 In addition to the new case, you've now got POP mode (handy to disable to help with K band blind spot falsing, even if you don't have POP in use, plus ESP that was added with 3.892+ to give you bluetooth support for pairing to an Android phone with YaV1 to get GPS lockouts, frequency display, custom sweeps, and all sorts of extra goodies. Upgrading will add a lot of useful functionality, increased performance, and an all-around better product.

  • @jersey2484
    @jersey2484 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thank you. I have to ask though and excuse me for being redundant but would you spend the extra $200 for the V1. Is it worth saving for. Or buying a returned one for $360. I like the idea of the arrows and if im honest that's the only reason I really want the V1. So are the arrows worth the extra money lol

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chase Johnson The arrows are definitely nice but I can't answer the question of if it's right for you. I like the V1, but my needs and preference are different from yours so even though I choose to run a V1, you're still going to have to decide if it's a better choice over the X50 Black. Keep in mind that whatever you choose, you're ultimately going to want to get a bluetooth module (Escort Live or V1C) and a phone to pair it with to get GPS lockouts to really help filter out some of the false alerts so your price is going to be higher than what you're looking at.

    An unrelated question but I'm not sure where to ask this. I received my Valentine One unit and noticed small hairline scratches one the front atenna. Is this normal? it appears to have been caused by the foam surrounding the unit. I've heard from many people the the lense scratches easily and this is to be expected. Does this effect radar and laser and performance. I'm very ODD about this things and was a bit concerned.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really. It does slow things down by a few milliseconds, but not enough to make any real world differences. POP off is recommended generally either way. The V1 is still lightning fast and you get reduced false alerts which is very important.

      @thevegas737 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vortex Well ive watched many of your videos and you change things using yavi1 i cant remember what things you changed. So what im asking is if i use my phone to change a setting of any sort does it have the stay connected with the v1 in order to keep the change or does it save to the v1 and not require a phone.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Vegas “Vegas747” Seven four seven The V1 settings don't require a phone. The things that require a phone are things like different profiles saved in the phone that can be loaded to the V1 on the fly, any GPS feature like lockouts or low speed muting that requires your phone's GPS, or alert logging where the logs are saved in your phone. The V1 features like the V1's muting settings and custom sweeps are all loaded into the V1 and don't require a phone. You can program the detector and do much of this stuff without a phone. You do it in the V1 itself. A phone just makes it easier.

    I was talking about the V1 the other day and an interesting thought emerged. How long was the V1 "The King"? I have owned mine since 1999 and unless I am mistaken, it was King then. I assume the Redline dethroned it around 2014??? Thanks for all you share. Love all your videos and find them so informative.

    TravelCam1111 i got a question, on the Savvy they said that it draws little current from the cars battery even with the ignition switched off so if the V1 unit hooked up to the savvy does that mean its turned on all the time? I'm thinking of buying the V1 and savvy combo from Valentine One but i don't like to be turning the knob off on the V1 every time the ignition is switched to off just because the unit is powered straight to the 12V battery source.

    is work for all range of police cars ? if not
    how detect the range or in other meaning how I make sure this detector work in
    my city?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      These do not detect police cars. They detect the presence of radar which only some police cars have, and even then they don't always have their radar turned on. It also detects radar from things like automatic door openers on stores and those speed signs that tell you your speed. Generally the detector will work and you shouldn't have issues with it not working at all.

    Do you think getting a radar detector is still worth it if I am not going to get any laser jammers? I have been looking at getting a valentine 1 for a while but I am hesitant to do so with all the police now upgrading to laser, and with apps like Waze warning me of police officers anyway. Is radar still used enough for the V1 to be worth it? I live in MA...Thanks!

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      pinkshortsmanwithban Very worth it. It's one part of a complete package. If radar is used in your area, you'll want a radar detector. If laser is used, a laser jammer. It's all about layers of protection. No one tool can do it all.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      That totally depends upon you, your personality, what experience you want to have, and what you encounter on the roads you drive. I prefer the V1 personally, but that's because it fits what I'm looking for. Your needs may be different. I wish there was a simpler answer, but what are you looking for? Where do you drive? You could even buy several and return all but your favorite after test driving a few. Even though all detectors go beep, they're actually pretty different.

    You indicated in this video that you use the redline on highway trips. And I believe you when you say the redline is better than the V1 on distance alerts. But if you use custom sweeps on the V1 and follow your recommended settings doesn't that increase the distance alert ability of the V1 close to a redline? I guess I don't want to own more than one detector if the V1 is close enough at distance alerts.... thx

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kevin J Last Custom sweeps do help extract additional performance, but the Redline is still the leader. Not only that, there have recently been some additional detectors that have come out that can sometimes meet or even exceed the V1.

      If you get the latest version of the V1 with the new TMF2/Junk K Fighter feature, version 3.894 or 3.8945, it does an amazing job. It does the best job out of any detector I've run yet and yet somehow the filter's penalty is less than the implementation of K band filtering I've seen other detectors do. I'm not sure how they're doing it, but it works great. It's not perfect and some falses do still come through, but it's been drastically reduced.

      Chase Johnson The X50 Black has been replaced by the new Passport which is why the price dropped, but it's a fantastic performer at its price point. One of the best values you can get and one of the best M4-based radar detectors you can get. @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ryker Bowen I use an AC to DC converter. Basically converts the power plug in your home to a cig. lighter that you can plug stuff into. Then I use a cig. lighter splitter that converts 1 plug into 4. I've owned two so far. The first one was a cheap $3 one and damaged a device I had plugged into it. The second one I'm using now was $20'ish and works better, but I think there may be some subtle issues I'm noticing over time so I hesitate to recommend it now. Get something decent online and it should be fine.

      I prefer the V1 for how it presents information, how configurable it is, how much information it tells me, and so on.
      The Max seems to finally be getting better after a bunch of quality control issues and people are realizing its true potential isn't all that it was hyped up to be, but the V1 can do everything the Max can, plus way more. It does require a phone for GPS lockouts though while the Max is fully integrated.
      Displaying the exact frequency is really important too. The Max can display one. The V1 can display none, but if you pair it with the phone then you get all the frequencies displayed for every signal, plus strength and direction and so on.
      One of the biggest issues I've had with Escort's GPS lockouts is having it lock out a real cop shooting K band (it's happened to me several times). I've never owned a Max, and Escort has improved their lockout algorithm to some extent, the biggest issues of how they handle lockouts still remain and to be perfectly honest, I don't trust running an Escort product where K band lockouts and threats are used simultaneously. The way YaV1 handles it is SO much better where in the exact same conditions, the V1 will alert and the Max will stay silent to the real threat.
      So for me, the answer is V1.

    is it useful on high speed ? .. 140+ ?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ameer Alkali Faster speeds means you have faster closing speeds, less reaction time, and it takes longer to brake, but of course.

      Got you.. so Which is better for high speed, the v1 or the escort redline ?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Redline gives you better range which is important. V1 will give you better filtering so you'll be unnecessarily braking less, plus you'll have arrows to know if that alert is in front of you or behind.. and you'd respond differently to either. Both have their strengths. If you need serious protection, look at the Stinger VIP to get a detector that offers all of that and more...

    i have a question, if a cop is camping on a road that barely is none passing by, so he's not using the gun till somebody approaches him (me for example), will it still pick up the signal or only when he shooting the laser at me? please somebody answer, I've been really confused about this. Also, someone please answer if the V1 is able do this. thank you!

    • @georgemoussa9225
      @georgemoussa9225 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      George Moussa also will it just pickup any cop car driving around me, even if they are not shooting any laser? thank you!!

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      George Moussa The V1 has a laser detector, but it is only designed to alert when the officer is shooting at you, not when others are being shot. This is the case with every radar detector and they don't actually help protect you against laser tickets. They're effectively ticket notifiers. If you want protection against laser too (not radar), look into laser jammers.

      is the 9500ix any different? if a cop is shooting down the street to catch the rear license plate of a car, will the 9500ix or v1 pick it up before i even pass the radar truck? sorry i just don't think you answered my question or i just didn't pick up what you said

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      George Moussa Like I said in my previous response, this applies to every radar detector.
      Rear laser is much tougher to pick up though than front, and some detectors are more sensitive and/or have better filtering than others, but the fact is that they are designed to only alert to laser when you're being shot, and even then many times they still won't go off when you're being shot because the laser beam is so narrow. Your RD may not even see it at all if they're aiming down at your plate.

      Nope. You can pair it with your phone to use your phone's GPS, however.

      m smith As long as it's still level and straight and the front isn't being blocked by the wipers or anything it would still work well.

      I just saw that, I didn't watch those ending 4 mins lol , I found the
      LRD 950 FOR 187$ just a week ago now it doubled dont think its worth that price when escort performs better in that price range or am I wrong. Comparing the lower x50 too prd950

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      950 has better range, better false filtering, more features... but yeah, the price is going up. The replacement will be $300. We're in that weird transitional point though it's still cheaper now than it will be in a few weeks.
