    I have to say, you're pumping out some great content on your channel. I was in the market for a new radar detector and stumbled across your channel. After watching most of your videos I decided to order a new V1 with the Android connector. I have two phones one iPhone and one Andriod (for work) so it made sense for me to go with a similar setup as what you recommend in this video. I can't wait to get it setup. Thanks for sharing all this detail!

    @David S, what would you like to see about the Max2? The more I drive with it, the less I like it, and I don't wanna do videos ragging on it or anything. Additionally, it's easier to use because you just buy one, plug it in, and it works. It is pretty great in that respect. What would you like to see covered about it?

    I find your videos increadibly useful and informative!!! I see that you have your V1 mounted "high" on the windshield with suction cups, I was wondering if you would comment on a "rear-view mirror" mount for the V1 (pros/cons - location vs alerting capability). Thank you.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Flyer I personally don't like RVM mounts like the blend mount. They're too visible from the outside and partially obscure my view out the windshield. The high mount behind the tint strip is less visible to potential thieves and other drivers around you and so it's generally more stealthy which I greatly prefer.

    I just purchased a Valentine One, Gen 2. I noticed that this video is from 8 yrs ago. I'm assuming that things have probably somewhat changed &/or been upgraded now in 2024. Do you have a video like this for the Gen 2? I'm a bit lost with the setup. Much thanks!
    PS - I have never owned a Gen One.

    @josephmotta5103 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Vortex! First let me say that I love your videos. Super informative. I just have a question regarding the V1 LE for iphone. I purchased the V1 detector and V1 LE. Is it ok to just plug in the bluetooth module into the cigarette charger port while the V1 detector is plugged into the mail line? I read the instruction at they involve using a BOB or savy. So my main question is do I only need a V1 detectoer and the V1LE to run V1 on my phone ?I also have another question. What is the purpose of the articulated bracket? btw I am def going to get myself an android for yav1 :)

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joseph Motta The power module you use, whether it's the cig. lighter cable, hardwire, or savvy, should have to telephone style jacks. "Main" is for the V1 and "Acc" is for the bluetooth module. You will need both the detector and the V1C LE to use the detector with your iPhone. When you're wanting to get an Android, you will have to get the Android version of the V1C. The V1C LE isn't gonna work with Android. I tried... ;)

    Hey @travelcam1111 great video. I just have a questions.
    I just bought my v1 about a week ago but I drive with it but dosent alert me about police up ahead. Idk why? Do you think you can help me out?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hugo Reyes It's not a police car detector. It's a radar detector. It detects radar if and when police cars use radar. If an officer doesn't use radar at all (very often the case because not every cop runs speed enforcement) or the have their radar unit turned off, your radar detector will not go off.

    I got one question please: can the android phone with Yav1 completely replace the concealed display accessory for controlling the V1? (because I'm willing to buy a V1 but to put in a hard to access location, maybe on the rear deck or something)

    If you plug the savvy into the computer plug of your car and then using the phone like cord from the cigarette plug in, do you need to hard wire the v1 or is it power from the cars main computer plug?

    I just found your channel and it is awesome!! great information here and communicated so clearly and easily understood. Thanks! You have answered a lot of my questions on why the V1 is still viable. I saw your Max2 best all in one video too, which has a lot of this same functionality built in. What is the key differentiator to you about using the V1 + YaV1 vs. a detector like the Max2 or 9500ci? Just more customizability?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      malcolmz3o1 Honestly? The Max2 is designed to be all-in-one but is kinda garbage otherwise. Poor build quality, bugs that aren't getting fixed, inconsistent performance, and so on. The V1 I find MUCH more reliable and consistent which is something you don't typically hear about in comparisons, but I find it to be a really big deal. The V1 can do lots of the same stuff, but it requires more doodads and configuration. If you want ease of use, Max2. If you're willing to do a little setup yourself, V1.
      9500ci is kinda like the Max2 without all the problems. Plus it's custom installed and more expensive. If you don't need the 9500ci's subpar laser jammers (Laser Shifter Pros), go for the Beltronics STi-R Plus instead and pair it with the AntiLaser Priority laser jammers.

    I have the V1 & run it off the Savvy unit. For me, the Savvy is the way to go. The Savvy is plug & play as far as powering your V1, instead of tapping into your vehicles power somewhere. Also, you get the bonus of setting the unit to mute below any predetermined speed. The apps for the phones are cool, but I found once I custom programmed the V1 manually (which is real easy) I never wanted to make any changes. The bluetooth connectors & apps are going to cost you about the same amount as the Savvy anyway ($69), so you're really not saving any money by connecting it to your phone (bluetooth $50-$60 + App $10). In addition, I already use my phone for music & Bluetooth calls, so having to connect to another bluetooth & load another app while your in the car would be ridiculous. So, just to be clear, you don't have to use a phone app to program the detector, you can do it from the unit itself in just a few minutes.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +thevaughnshow If you don't want lockouts, a frequency display, the ability to mute 33.8, and so on, Savvy is fine. I use both and it's no big deal. Same with connecting via BT. It's all automatic and in the background so there's no extra steps. Whatever works though.

    Hey, thanks for all the videos! I do have a question though. Recently sold my max 2(wasn't a huge fan) and I plan on getting the v1 next. My question is, can you program the v1 with the iphone app the same way you can with yav1, to get the max performance out of it?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can enable custom sweeps from the iPhone, but you won't get GPS lockouts to quiet it down around town.

    • @cristinaciora5287
      @cristinaciora5287 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome, thank you for the quick reply! so the only main feature I'd be losing would be the GPS lockouts?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Cristina Ciora There's some other advanced stuff too like muting via boxes, voice alerts, seeing all the frequencies on display at once, getting custom profiles that you can switch between on the fly, and so on, but that's one of the biggest differences.

    So I've been shopping radar detectors and you have pretty much sold me on the V1. I like the added functionality and being able to tweak it to my needs. I currently drive 180 miles per day I get a company car that changes on a weekly basis so it all has to be somewhat portable and easy to move from car to car so I have a couple questions. Does the phone have to be on for the app to work or can I just connect my phone, turn off display, an be still able to use GPS lockouts Yavi running in the background? I do a lot of night driving and cell phone screen just kill your night vision on dark roads. Also, one of the videos you put up had different colors on the concealed display for different radar bands but I only saw that in the one video is that still something you can do? I like the idea of making it more visual on the dash as I often crank music or have the windows down in the car or both. Is the concealed display simple to mount/dismount or is it more of a permanent attachment to the car? thanks in advance.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +PittasJ5252 The phone does have to be on, but you can have the app running in the background no problem.
      The multicolored concealed display is a custom thing that I had a friend do for me. That's something that you'll likely want to install more permanently, but you could also consider having the V1's LED's colored instead and that'll be one less doodad that you'll need. There's a couple companies that can do this sort of thing. I haven't used either of them, but here ya go:

      ***** Take a look at both options. You can send yours in for the upgrade, but depending on how old your V1 is, the resale value on them is so good that sometimes you can actually spend less by selling your current V1 and buying a brand new one. :)

  • @s0lohans

    thanks so much for these amazing videos @vortex ! just to confirm, the android Bluetooth dongle does NOT have to be powered by the same circuit as the v1 and it will still communicate with it? for example, I have my v1 hardwired to dome light but I have a sig plug in the glove compartment. can I leave the v1 the way it is and plug the dongle in the other power socket with 4 pin adapter? how does the v1 and dongle communicate since they are not directly connected?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      They do have to be physically wired together so the V1 and the BT module can communicate. The V1 has no way of getting BT otherwise. The wireless portion is between the phone and the BT module, not the V1 and the BT module.

      @65sohc 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to ask the same question but I'm still not clear on this. My V1 is mounted to my mirror and wired using a Mirror Tap. Therefore there is no accessory port between the V1 and the power source to plug the bluetooth module into. Can I simply connect my currently unused Direct-Wire Power Adapter to a different 12v. source and plug the bluetooth into it and be done or is it necessary to ditch the Mirror Tap and and connect the V1 and bluetooth module to the same power source? I wouldn't think so since they communicate wirelessly, but then what do I know? Thanks.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      65sohc The bluetooth module and V1 need to be physically connected by wire. The bluetooth is only between the phone and the BT module, not the BT module and the V1. The V1 doesn't have BT built in.

    Wow - that is an amazing amount of information, I was going to get the Max 360 and after revewing your info I am now getting the V1 paired with the YaV1 on my Android. Question about Savvy? Have you had any kind of issues as far as your car battery being drained by Savvy? Because I know Savvy draws a low current from the battery with the car being off. I'm looking to power up my V-1 with Savvy and only for that purpose only.

      Vinstep 888 You can, yes, and that's how I run it. You'll want to get a phone jack splitter (little plastic piece) which plugs into the accessory port of the power adapter and splits it into two outputs, one for the concealed display and another for the bluetooth module.

  • @killz5250
    @killz5250 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you get your power cable with the 2 ports included because I cannot find that on the Valentine website they all have a single power cord with no ports for my Bluetooth module

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Every single power cable for the V1 has two ports. "Main" is for the V1 and "ACC" is for any accessories like the BT module.

    • @killz5250
      @killz5250 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Vortex Radar I've ordered a hard wire power cord off Amazon and I don't see how I could plug an accessory into it it has 4 Cable ends one for the fuse box, one for the ground, one to plug into the V1 and there is another that I'm assuming is the accessory you're talking about but it is just an open end. So how does that cable with an open end plug into the Bluetooth module

    • @killz5250
      @killz5250 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +killz5250 that other cable that I'm assuming is the accessory doesn't even have the RJ 11 jack

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need the specifically one from V1, NOT a generic one that you get from Amazon. That's your problem. Take a look at this video. It goes over connecting multiple devices to your V1, a little bit beyond what you're asking for, but it'll show you the difference. th-cam.com/video/csETeTRmzGY/w-d-xo.html

    Do I have to use the android phone as a display to get lockout feature from YaV1? I still want to see the display on the detector itself and just use the app manually to lockout that signal.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to have a phone to get lockouts, period. Whether you want to use the phone as a display is a secondary thing. This works now with Android and iOS (it didn't when I shot this video).

    • @sswany_
      @sswany_ 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vortex Radar ok so I don't need an android phone if I have an iPhone? Do I still need to buy the Bluetooth module?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can do it with the iPhone app V1Driver, correct. You'll find info about the app on my channel here as well. If you have an iPhone, get the V1C LE Bluetooth module instead of the Android V1C and you'll be all set.

    • @sswany_
      @sswany_ 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vortex Radar $510 for V1, V1C LE, concealed display, and V1Driver. Yesterday I was thinking Redline, but now I'm thinking V1. I think Valentine has better quality and customer service and they're always trying to update their product where as Escort has a lot of products and won't be improving the Redline. Do you know if I can have the concealed display with dark V1 and zero sound? Like if I had people in my car, I don't want the radar detector sound because I generally don't speed at all with people in my car.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that's easy. You can have the V1 go dark and display only from the CD. That's how I run it. The phone is a secondary display. Turn the volume knobs all the way down on the V1 and boom, quiet. Then it's all visual. That's actually one of my favorite ways to do it. It's all visual. :)

    So, do you feel that the android app is still better than the iPhone app? I ask because with V1driver will soon be coming to the iPhone. I'm testing it and it seems like a really great app. Little tweaks here and there but V1driver is pretty much plug and play and with GPS lockouts.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +maynardo Yeah it seems pretty awesome. It's easier to use and features continue to be added. Now that we have it (or the public will have it soon), it doesn't look like it'll be as necessary to get an Android phone with the V1.

    • @saprano1972
      @saprano1972 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Vortex Radar yeah, V1driver pretty much does all the work. George is really starting to perfect the GPS auto lockouts....and the fact that when you turn your car on it automatically syncs to the iPhone. V1driver's going to be a game changer for sure. Let the phone wars begin. Lol

    Hi, I have a 3.864 and the cost to upgrade would be $289. Not sure what to do. My unit is like new becasue I only used it on trips. But now that I hard wired it and watched your programming video it is pretty quiet and I leave it acitve everyday. Just wondered your thoughts on upgrading in my case. thx. Also, if I activate ALL bogeys will I lose my programming. Now I use little L.. logic mode.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't upgrade it. You can sell it for around $400, buy a new one for $360-400, and it'll cost you way less than the ~$300 to upgrade it.
      The newer version will give you better filtering against cars with blind spot systems, plus you get all the handy integration with your phone. Doing that allows you to access custom sweeps for better performance, you can get GPS lockouts and low speed muting, etc.

    • @kevinj4114
      @kevinj4114 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vortex Not sure I want to pair it with my phone but the blind spot filtering that would be built in might be handy.I guess I just want to use the V1 on its own.. So that just leaves the extra filtering options on the new model. hard decision. Or sell it on ebay. Never used ebay I guess its ok... thansk for all your vids they helped me alot.

      +Vortex Hi, why someone wouldn't just buy from official website, same price for used and new? WTH??

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Chak Oh they should. You get a full warranty, all the latest features like improved filtering and bluetooth support, plus it's new in general. However, Valentine doesn't ship internationally so some people do have to go through a third party to get one. Additionally, most people don't realize that new V1's are drastically different than older ones so the resale value stays pretty high. New is the way to go.

    Is it worth buying the valentine one and savvy? I have an iphone but I'd rather just use the detector without connecting to a phone.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Graham Williams Savvy is fine and works for low speed muting. With the iPhone app V1Driver, it works seamlessly in the background and you don't even need to take your phone out of the pocket. It requires your phone but there's minimal involvement. Plus you get extra functionality like you can get lockouts around town, you can program it for even better performance than you can do with the detector alone, etc.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cal Beezy You get a brand new, fully upgraded version that someone else has used for up to 30 days. They return it, the V1 gets cleaned up and ready for resale, and you get it for less. It should be the latest version. 3.8945 when you get it.

      TravelCam1111 Phew thanks man had me worried.... It should be here monday. What additional things would you recommend me to get with it? Like do I need an additional piece to pair my Android phone with it?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cal Beezy Yes, you need an Android bluetooth module if you want to pair it with your phone (highly recommended). I thought I mentioned that in the video. Anyways, the V1 is very noisy and chatty out of the box so you'll want to program it with your phone to quiet it down. See some of my other videos for tutorials on doing that.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  9 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Vortex, Great videos! I am planning on getting the V1. I just have some questions.
    1) If I buy the V1connection for Android, would I need a concealed display (in other words, can I make my V1 so dark and just use my phone)
    2) Also, if I decide to get the concealed display, can I program the V1 with the V1connection Android and not have phone on display and using only the concealed display while having the correct program.
    Basically, can I use my phone or the concealed display if i do not use both while keeping the correct program. Since I may use my phone for GPS that day.
    Hope that makes sense.
    Thanks and keep up the good work!

    • @VortexRadar

      Thanks for the quick response. I decided to buy the V1 with the Concealed Display and V1connections.
      I'll definitely refer to your video on how to program it when it arrives.
      Thanks1!

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +rtrt2889 Congrats! If you're getting a V1C and a CD, you'll need a phone jack splitter b/c you can't plug all that into the V1's ports at the same time. Get one with 4 pins that converts 1 plug into 2 and the CD and V1C will both go in to the same ACC port.

      +Vortex I haven't watched the video yet, but the guy claims that he just bought it 4 months ago, and it has the latest software. also should I worry about it being broken (like not able to detect anything) so I'm meeting him at a picknsave so hopefully it will trigger the v1 when I test it.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      DolphinDivingChamp If he bought it brand new 4 months ago and it works well, that's a heck of a deal. You can ask him for the serial number to verify. The video explains what to do with the serial.
      It probably wouldn't die on its own, but who knows if he damaged or broke it. That's always a risk with Craigslist.

    • @DolphinDivingChamp
      @DolphinDivingChamp 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Vortex Yea I'm really suspicious because he posted it for over $300 and I straight up offered him $200 for it and he said OK without giving me a counter offer and didn't try to get more money out of it. I asked him if he was i a hurry to sell it he said no, so hes not desparate for cash. he does have the original box so I know it's not stolen out of a car winshield. But getting it to false alarm in a grocery store is the only way test that it's working right?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      DolphinDivingChamp V1's are generally pretty reliable and don't break down too often, especially when new. Sometimes they need a bit of a tuneup after a few years, but if it alerts to grocery stores, it should be alright.
