- Note: It's normal to not have a "C" on the display like in this video unless you’re programming with your phone. Before recording this video, I had loaded custom sweeps in the V1 using my phone and when I set the V1 into Euro Mode, and instead of a "U" it displays a "C" on screen. You can't do custom sweeps without a phone so instead you'll have a "U" if Euro Mode is enabled or an "A," "L," or l" if Euro Mode is disabled. I should have factory reset my V1 before recording this video.
Do NOT use Euro mode in the US without loading in custom sweeps on your phone or else your V1 will not scan all the Ka frequencies in use in the US. Keep it in “A,” “L,” or “l” mode instead.

LOL I have to admit I'm an idiot.. I've had a V1 for years and never knew these functions existed. I drive every day frustrated from all the false K band hits wishing I could do something about it. Me too. I bought mine 7 years ago and I only used it for less than 6 months cause so much false alerts. Thanks to Utube I'm back on it and program it.

You seriously need to do a JBV1 video... I just bought the V1 Connection and you almost need a PHD to fiddle with all of the settings!

Bought my v1 in March 2000 ver 2.909 just before I had kids. (: Had no idea I could reprogram the sensitivity. Looks like all I can do is mute K some and perhaps turn off K band detection from behind. With all the new cars with blind spot monitoring, it's become almost worthless driving in high density.
The TMF2 filtering in the latest update will help with K-band as will the delayed muting.
Your best today is a newer model with ESP and to add V1Connection with Bluetooth module and run JBV1(3rd) app for further muting of the different algorithms that Honda, Mazda, and GM use. You can also segment Ka-band for a noticeable performance increase. It is like a military upgrade for your V1!
Nothing is foolproof but it sure helps when you have to run K-band.

I'm so glad I finally found this good review, my damn thing wont shut up and unlike my Escort Redline, the V1 is archaic in comparison so I have to jump through these strange hoops to fix it and shut down the annoying K band. I can't drive a half mile without someone's damn car setting it off now. Valentine 1 really needs to update their detectors screens as well to make it more 21st century.

Which band is more likely to be triggered by electronic doors in stores? K-band? If so what is the optimum way of reducing false from that band without turning it off and then getting caught on the same band by the cops? Nice video, thanks!
So in a general sense in the US, I'm getting that K band should be turned off completely? Considering cops don't actually use K band, they use KA? I'm just trying to cut down on those annoying false alerts since I keep laser on.
Only in VA and CA do you shut K-band off. One state doesnt allow radar detectors and the other is Ka only.
@cal beezy he turned off X because it's a very old signal and it's pretty much not used in the U.S.
After I did it the alarms keeps going off without anything infront. It’s way worst after playing with it. How can I reset it
Hey Vortex, Thanks for the Vid! I just got done programming my V1 with your settings. I have a couple questions. What are the pros and cons of setting the b c d settings to 3 seconds v.s. 5? Does it filter out more or less of false alerts you think? Also, once I made all of these changes, will each mode, L, little L, and A all have these filters enabled?

+LLBJ5 For b,c,d, the idea is how long it stays muted for before you get alerted. It's handy to mute brief signals but honestly I haven't putzed around with this too much since I rely on my phone for things like GPS lockouts and low speed muting. As for the different modes, you'd have to double-check yourself. I always use 'C' mode myself now with custom sweeps so I don't know some of the nuances off hand regarding the other modes.

Vortex, I just picked up a V1 and noticed pretty early on that there wasn't really any way to tell what band is being picked up at night, unless you figure out where the dot is next to by memory. I really just want an audio or visual distinction between K and Ka
Am I missing something, or is this just a "V1 Land" quirk?

***** That's normal. Usually you just go by the sounds primarily. You can eventually figure out where the dot is relative to the arrows, but you can also do a custom colored display (what I do with my CD) or add some colors/voices with YaV1 as well.

Amazing tutorial and walkthrough! I just received my V1 yesterday and and really had no clue how to access the menu (I clearly didn't read the manual lol). I live in Ohio and I've been told that I should leave all the factory settings as they are since Ohio is one of the few states that use all kinds of bands. Would I be compromising performance by leaving all the settings to factory specs? I definitely want to get the best performance out of the V1 since its such an expensive device but also wanna be covered from all the bands that cops use here.
+landotheripper Yeah Ohio has some of just about everything, haha. You've got X band, K band, and Ka band. You can get more performance from the V1 by using your phone to access custom sweeps, but even toggling Ka guard off in your V1 will help with performance beyond the factory settings.
I need to turn k band off since it constantly giving me false alerts and they only really use ka band in NJ
If it’s having issues can you try and reset it? It’s just doing funky things basically showing there’s radar when there’s none, not changing when there’s actual radar.

radar in USA, I modified all the settings as shown, but at 19:44 you explain euro mode. is my radar suppose to show a big "U" on standby ?

It will show U unless you set Custom Sweeps in your phone which I did previously, sorry.
I used to have a V1 with ESP but I sold it with the car. I didn't want to spend $600 for the V1 G2 so I bought one off of eBay. I believe it's a pre-ESP V1 and it includes the pre-ESP CD. I was thinking of getting a BT dongle for it but after watching your videos, I believe some features on the app won't work?
ESP is required for Bluetooth so an old pre-ESP V1 Gen1 won’t work with your phone. However all the V1 Gen2’s have Bluetooth and ESP built in so they’ll work fine.

Question - what is the downside to turning off K band completely? I live in Kentucky and just recently turned off K band due to all the false alarms. I now just pay attention to Ka band. Thanks for your suggestions!
+wsrush1985 The downside is that if K band is in use, you can get a ticket from it. Filtering is important to help deal with K band since it is still so prevalent.

I have a much older version of the V1 and it goes off non stop. When I checked last time I think my version is the 2909 but not positive. I was wondering if I should upgrade to a new V1 or buy the max 360. Most of my drive time is mixed between highway and city. Will the Max 360 give me plenty of warning on the highway if I choose that option ? Your videos have been very informative so keep up the great work. 👍🏻
Yep, sounds like an older V1...
If you have a really old V1, it'll cost you $289 to upgrade. You can sell your old one on eBay and buy a brand new one for less than the cost to upgrade. If you're happy with your V1, go that route.
The Max360 will give you plenty of range in most situations. Think of it as a simplified V1 with GPS and a fancier screen. The updated V1 can do a lot of the same things as the 360, but it will require a phone (to use the phone's GPS) plus an extra bluetooth module.
I like the V1's additional customizability. The 360 is an easier to use package and many people like that plug-and-play aspect. bit.ly/1PBnVjX

I don't think the 360 is gonna have loads more updates. It's had a number already, but after a while Escort tends to slow down with the updates I've noticed.
Just installed my V1 and turned X and K band off but what does the small L means and the capital L?
Those are the Logic and Advanced Logic modes and have to do with how the V1 alerts you when it finds an alert it thinks is a false alert. See page 18 of the manual. www.valentine1.com/v1info/pdf/manual_2012/Manual_V1.pdf

serg472 Just my personality. I like being low key and not drawing a lot of attention to myself. :) I would prefer people around me not knowing I have a RD and then using me for a rabbit, not getting the stink eye from LEO's next to me, and so on. :D
Damn so I have my Ka band turned on and mostly the Police in USA use the Ka frequency...but I get pulled over yesterday and my radar didnt go off. Would you have any idea why? Was he using K band or laser?
Also when they have their mounted radars turned on V1 alerts me but say if they are sitting on the side of the road using the radar gun...my V1 shows an error. Ive noticed that recently....what should I do? Did ya have any advice?

What do you mean by the error?
You got hit with K band. I had it turned off and got fucked too. A lot of the local cops are catching people with K to switch it up. The best thing is to: (a) Don't speed in local county road, (b) Make sure to tweak for maximum K band filtering to reduce false alert.
So what does it mean if you hold the button in and let go and nothing happens?

I have problem with v1 which that when the radar is facing the car the v1 will alarm but when the radar is facing forwored it's will not alarm until I pass it. So how I can fix that ?

Could you make a video of all the convenience store frequencies that are okay to mute?
Unfortunately nope. K band frequencies can be all over the map, both real and false, so you can't mute out certain ranges of door openers based on frequencies. That's what GPS lockouts are for with V1Driver on iOS or JBV1 on Android.
This seems very overwhelming lol. Are there any simpler radar detectors? Such as a plug n play type? I mostly want one for highway and also when I'm out driving spiritedly in my challenger on backroads or something like that. I drive normally in the city though cause I know cops will be around anyways and also to avoid accidents and well..you get the idea. I once was passing someone on the highway and I saw a cop hiding somewhere and I shit my pants when it started to follow me. I didnt get pulled over, but that moment scared me to get a radar detector.
Yeah this is a more complicated detector, no doubt. It's much easier to do with your phone. If you want an easier version of the V1, take a look at the Max360. It's like a plug and play V1 with no phone required. amzn.to/1jvCbxE

I cannot get my V1 to pick up K band at all I did use this tutorial to set mine up my unit does have the (Junk K fighter) and the (latest software) is there another setting i need to change?? I have a friend that works for the Sheriffs Dept. where I live he shot my Detector with K band with no results? so what can I change to get K band to work it is used quite often where I live I do need it to detect K band...any suggestions? I have version 38952 and I've disabled K band, but still getting warnings which is driving me insane as all automatic doors in shopping centres etc all are on this, any reason you know why this is happening?

Is it possible in Euro mode to switch from "U" to "u" and not mute all other bands,but just turn off K? I mean the K turns off,but the "u" mode also mutes the other bands and they just light up.

U is Euro Mode. To get Custom Sweeps and have it display the C, you need to use your phone for that programming. There’s no way to set the sweeps ranges in the V1 directly.
Does having tm2 turned on really hurt your range on bands of the Valentine one radar compared to when it's turned off? and what about delay times on k band with the filter turned off. Thanks

I'm buying a v1 off ebay is there anyway I can check to see what version I have by the serial number...also will these detectors still work ok without an up grade and can you download a new version of software without a new purchase such as the v1 2nd generation
V1 is just a legendary piece of equipment. Even the design after so many years still looks better than most of the competition. I would like Mike to address the followin 3 major things to keep up with passing time:
1-A small LCD to show the actual frequency
2-RDD Undetectability on par with redline
3- An implementation of internal parts that lets us do without all the external aggravation such as savvy or the bluetooth connection etc...

Great video. I just got my upgrade to 3.8952. I've had my V1 since 05 and I love it. The other day I was driving along and I noticed 2 pneumatic hoses secured to the road about 6" apart. Just past them was a marked car that appeared to be working traffic for speed. Do you know what this new(?) system is?
So I had to look up the technical name for them, hehe. They're apparently called pneumatic road tubes. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_count They're designed to measure the flow of traffic for engineering purposes but they don't have anything to do with speed enforcement.

Hi , your videos are amazing. I cant find a "contact us" on your site. I do not own a Radar Detector at this time. I am old. I come from the old Fuzzbuster and Bearfinder radar detector days of the 1970's if that gives you any idea of my product knowledge (or lack of it) and my age. I also heard of the Escorts and Passports but never bought any of them. I am retired with no retirement income and want to avoid any speeding tickets. I am not technical, but, I want to get a good detector and I am probably going to have issues with programming. I was leaning towards the V-1 or the R3. I watched your videos after I knew I did not want to have a detector like my friends Cobra (his is in like a constant annoying receive mode that NEVER shuts up). Please contact me and advise a good way to contact you for (just for a good referral for a radar detector) that will fit my needs based on my location. Then based on what we discuss, after I get one if I need a private session to get it programmed we can go from there. Thank you.

When you enable Euro Mode, it will switch to a U. If you connect it to your phone and load Custom Sweeps, then it will display a C. I forgot to factory reset before shooting the video so it went straight from U to C.
I hope this isnt a stupid question. If i program for custom sweeps with my phone, do i then have to pair them every time i get in the car or does the V1 retain that info and keep my phone in my pocket? I dont have the dongle yet and was waiting to find out b4 i buy one.
+Justin81James Not a stupid question at all. It's kinda weird because some features only work when you have your phone and some will stay even without your phone. Custom sweeps are programmed into the detector itself and so while they require a phone to do the programming, they'll stay in the detector even if the phone isn't paired.
I copied all the setting I could in your video I have a version 3.739. I turned my radar off and on again after changing the settings and mine doesnt say C, all I have to choose from are A, L and like a smaller L which should I use?
Sorry I meant to factory reset the detector before doing the video. I had previously programmed custom sweeps with my phone before doing this video and so when I enable Euro Mode, instead of "U" it says "C" on screen. If you're not using custom sweeps or a phone, you don't need Euro Mode and will want to bounce between A, l, and L mode. I never use those to be honest but they have to do with different filtering modes. Check out the manual for more info about what they do exactly.

Yes that’s normal once you enable Euro mode if you haven’t gone into your phone and enabled custom sweeps yet.

i have this one,I just plug it under the car and turn it on.

I don't understand what you mean with count mode and only detecting K. It should detect Ka too.
Either way, remember that it is a *radar* detector, not a police car detector. If an officer doesn't have radar in his car or isn't using it at the moment, your radar detector will not alert.

You need the Bluetooth module. Look up the V1C or V1C LE. Hop onto the forums, rdforum.org, for more info and discussion about them.

That's changing the logic modes to adjust the detector's built-in false alert filtering. If you enable Euro mode you'll see a U and then if you push custom sweeps, you'll see a C. If you don't do that, you'll see A, l, or L. You can reference the V1 manual for more info.
I have a question for you if you can help me I had a v1 that had amazing ka band distance and purchased another one but the new ka band isn't as lengthy what can I do to increase my ka band my old v1 gave up and I can't get the settings
+Chris Roman Custom sweeps and Ka guard off will help with this, but you need a phone and Bluetooth module. Some detectors are also a little hotter than others, but it shouldn't be a huge difference.
Do you prefer the V1 over Escort? I have been a Escort fan for years but am beginning to loose confidence in their detectors...

How come I followed your video but before mine would have the letter A in display now it has the letter U. But yours has the letter C. Did I do something wrong?
It switches from U to C when you use your phone to add in Custom Sweeps for improved performance.
