Great video and thank you for sharing! Once you put down the valve body you tighten 2 bolts and then checked to see if the shifter moves , what would have happened if it didn’t moved ?
Hello Gary - many thanks for your generosity in publishing these videos. I am in Australia and a 2010 Jeep Cherokee Limited (Liberty in the US I think). I have fault codes P1776 mainly and on one occasion P0734. The symptoms are that the transmission occasionally shifts to 3rd gear (I think) and will no longer shift up or down. It will happen at anytime but often while driving at 60mph it will down shift and become stuck in this gear. I noticed on occasion that the torque does not lock up unless I kick down and then it seems to engage once it changes up the gears again. To enable the transmission to change normally again I need to stop the car, switch it off and restart it. It is a 42RLE VLP and there appears to be very little knowledge over here about these or they are very very expensive to have repaired. I was consiering (based on what I have read) of ordering a valve body and solenoid pack as a starting point. I understand it could be a number of things causing this but thought this may be a good starting point considering the cost of parts and repairs of these transmission in Australia. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Craig
Hello Craig and greetings from New York. You may have 2 problems, the P0734 is Gear error in 4th, this is the overdrive clutch, pretty common issue. What i need to know is if you have a scan tool that can show data of the transmission. I would like to know the C.V.I (clutch Volume Index) of the Overdrive clutch, then i could tell you if the clutch is good or not, but it is common for that clutch to wear out. The 1776 code is completely something different, in the Valvebody there is a switch valve, when in a certain position it works the low reverse clutch, then in another position it works the Converter clutch, so the code is saying it is stuck in the low/reverse position, this can be cause by a faulty valvebody, solenoid pack or range switch, could also be caused by a faulty wire but usually a P0841 will also set. First, we should look at the C.V.I Values for this trans, do you have a scan tool?
Gary - I had some one check the codes again and the only codes showing was P1776 and P0841. They checked the CVI Values and the OD clutch was 134. I believe the upper end spec for the 42RLE VLP is 150? Is the OD Clutch CVI Values still appropriate? The plan is to replace the valve body and solenoid pack only at this stage? Thanks, Craig
@@cardinallandlandspecialist4293 To me that is high and 150 cvi is too high. once the valvebody and solenoid pack is replaced, make sure you do a quick learn and recheck the cvi values. If the o/d cvi comes down with the quick learn and goes back up while driving, there may be a problem with the o/d clutch
Thank you for this video and your time and skill. 07 Wrangler with 42rle and threw a p1776 code. Swapping solenoids and sensors out tomorrow and then buttoning her back up.
That is a very hard code to diagnose, last couple i had the valvebody was the problem, it could be solenoids, valvebody, range switch or even wires, are there any other codes present?
It's a shame the guy who tried to do this first didn't do his do diligence but I suppose it's a learning experience for him. We've all made mistakes. This one just happened to to be expensive. I'm rebuilding mine right now and learning so much. I've had a lot of trouble though finding a good complete kit so I've ended up getting the different kits (snap ring, bushing, overhaul kit etc) separately.
Muchas gracias!!
It is genuinely interesting watch you work so efficiently. I have given up on doing a job related to this on my own Jeep JK because of that. It will be less of a headache for me to fix my solenoid issue if I buy the entire valve body from ATS. Or even a whole new transmission for that matter. I can sort of see why a shop wanted $4k to look at this issue.
@@GaryFerraro P0740. It started with really jerky shifts from 2-3 & 3-4. The jerk was more exaggerated in 4lo. Drove it today after it sat for a long time w/dead battery. New codes say P0733. P1790. Never seen them before. It finally failed after 3 years by topping out on the highway at 40mph & 5k rpm. It is now stuck in this state & doesnt seem to know it should shift after 2nd. Just hovers in 3rd... I believe. I'm just learning today I have a 4spd trans. It's an 08 with 150k mi that ive owned since new. 37" tires since 2014, so i sort of expected a failure by now. Trans has overheated a few times as well. Its overweight with camping stuff as well. 🙃
I have P0870 Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor/Switch C Circuit code. Im going to see if the good shop in town had time to look at it, its in limp mode
Hey Gary. Great video. I recently replace the solenoid pack and two sensors for the speed and input/output. After reinstalling the valve body with it in low, fresh fluid, etc, I don't have anything. It shows all the gears on the indicator but there's no movement what so ever. No check engine light or anything. 2005 42rle dodge Dakota thanks
Well to tell you the truth, I came in on the tail end of this repair. This is my father in laws truck. I saw this video and I was able to put the shifter in low for him to install the valve body. I did not see if the manual pin was hooked up as it should be. (he already had the solenoid pack plugged in under the truck) I'm going to personally pull the valve body assembly back out and check the manual part. Its no telling what he's done. I know he said he sprayed the valve body out with brake clean. Thanks and i'll keep you updated
Pulled the valve body again and the manual pin is in the gate of the shifter. Got it all back together again and it will shift and the tires move on the jack stands. On the tires it'll barely move like a slipping issue or a pressure issue.
Brian Sanchez in this video at 49:06 it show how he puts it all the way in low and hooks the spring loaded rod on the end. Then it's set and you install it back in the trans. My problem ended up being low on fluid. I suggest running it, an going through the gears a couple of times. I put over 5 qts initially but it needed more after cycling through the gears. Hope this helps.
Hey Gary! Great video! I have a question. I have a 06 Jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon that is going into limp mode and showing a P0700 and P1776 code. I have replaced the solenoid but the code came back. It only goes into limp mode when it shifts out of OD after the transmission has warmed up. If I cut OD off the Jeep drives fine without going into limp mode. Any suggestions on what it could be? Thanks
@@dragonberry8029 mine ended up being the valve body. I replaced it and haven't had any issues since. I had already sent off my PCM because everyone thought it had gone bad. If you're on Facebook join LJ Nation. The group has a lot of good content and is pretty good if you have any questions.
Hi Gary. I can't figure this out and was hoping you could tell me. I have a JK2007 with a 42RLE/VLP and i need a new valve body with solenoids. My mechanic already put things back together and didn't take a picture of the valve body, and now i dont know if i need the valve body WITH governor pressure solenoid or without for 42rle/vlp.
Hi, great video. I am need to replace the Range Sensor on my 08 Jeep Wrangler with this transmission. I plan to do this with the transmission still on the Vehicle. When installing the valve body, you say to have the shifter in the “low position”. Does this mean I would shift into “1” which is at the bottom of my shifter positions? If the transmission is in “1” should the valve body pull out without much force needed after everything is disconnected? Let me know what you think. Thanks
Correct, shifter needs to be in low, the linkage goes through the case, when you disconnect the linkage were the cable is, you may need to clean the linkage shaft so it slides out easy, won't drop right out but shouldn't come out that hard, 2 accumulators will fall out, try to see where they go. One may have one spring while the other may have 2 springs
Hi Gary. Question on the TCC control valve. The valve has a blunt end and a tapered to a point end. Which end faces the control plunger and which end faces the #4 retainer clip? Any help is greatly appreciated.
My transmission seems to have locked up after sitting for 6 weeks. With cables diconnected should I be able to shift it manually (under the jeep). It won't move? No issues prior to parking the jeep.
Hi I have a problem with a 2008 Jeep Wrangler overdrive and 3rd gear slip I can’t find the reason why everything inside looks good except for the clutch’s and steels . Thanks
The two UNDERDRIVE AND OVERDRIVE is there one spring in each of the two pistons? I pulled my valve body down in 2 pieces and the two springs were intertwined in one of the pistons…. Is that correct?
Hi Gary, thanks for making this video! where can I purchase the overhaul kit? I searched amazon and the local retailers, but I haven't been able to find a complete kit.
Hi Gary, I love your videos. I just serviced my 2014 dodge grand caravan 6 speed transmission . I was unable to snug one of the filter bolt. Would this make the filter fall in the pan or does the pan holds it in position. I also torqued the pan bolts to 100 inch pound. Please advise me what to do, if anything. Thanks for your great videos....
Thanks Gary - I don’t have a scan tool. I am just getting the codes from turning the ignition on and off rapidly 3 times. Do you know if there is a scan tool for a few hundred bucks that will read the CVI values? Otherwise I will find a shop that can pull the CVI for me. THanks
They are the same, but one may have one spring while the other may have 2 springs, if they fall, look for the witness marks on the valvebody. Love your name. LOL
Gary, My Purchased a Chrysler 300 with a 2.7 and a 42RLE with a bad motor, overhauled engine, its running great. I have one issue though , when transmission is cold, it shifts harsh, and if I start the car in the morning, and take off, when I get near a light or a stop sign engine cuts off completely like a manual car that you didnt press the clutch or put in neutral. I can start it and drive it again it can happen 2-3 times until transmission gets hot. In fact if I warm the car in the morning on drive or reverse stepping on the brake for about 5 minutes. After its hot, it shifts amazingly smooth and car never stalls again, not during the whole day. It will do it the next morning though. No codes. Please help.
question, when your approaching a stop sign or red light when the car is cold and you put the trans in neutral does it still stall out? What type of scanner do you have?
Great video Gary, I just recently installed a Transgo shift kit in my 42RLE and repaired a pan leak. My Jeep Liberty road tested out great but when I got back home the park doesn't want to hold it just clicks and the jeep roles. My question is this a cable adjustment.
ok, check the brackets that the cable hooks upto, the one that bolts to the transmission, may have to be loosened and moved alittle, sometimes we have to bend the bracket slightly, should be a bracket with 2 bolts i believe
thanks for sharing the video gary i recently rebuild 09G transmission but after the rebuild the transmission brakes in 6th gear and wont go over 50 mph but if i down shift to 5th gear it accelerates above 50 mph it like another clutch pack is interfering with 6th gear
no gary its not like that the car wont go over 50 mph in (6th) like there is something inside the transmission holding 6th gear from aceleration what i did is teardown the transmission apart and i found k1 clutch is starting to burn so its not releasing in 6th gear which is b1 clutch
Hi Gary, Great video thank you so much for sharing knowledge. I have a question, I have a 04 Dakota 3.7L with 147k on her. I went to put the truck into drive and the shifter only went down to reverse and got stuck there, I thought maybe it was my shifter cable so I went under the truck removed the cable but the cable slide in and out smoothly. I then tried to shift the tranny by hand and it would not budge. Any ideas?
What probably happened is there is a pin that came out of postion, it slid back, limiting the travel, have to drop pan , and also may have to pull off transfer case and extension housing to fix, another youtuber has a video on this issue, i think his channel is called, "This is your Transmission"
@@GaryFerraro Hi Gary, I found this video on ''This is your transmission'' th-cam.com/video/J6BI7PxL6Rs/w-d-xo.html Is this the one you were thinking of? Ok I heard you say the gear selector needs to be in low to get the Valvebody out, will be able to shift it to low once I start to drop the valve boby? Thanks Again Gary.
Hi Gary I have a problem with my Jeep jk 07. Yesterday before I’m trying to go in reverse ina high climb my Jeep simply stop and now when I put in reverse I feel like a neutral. Every others gears works fine only reverse don’t work,... I’m living in Brazil and need to know what you thinking about this problem before start to fixed and buying parts... tks a lot waiting for a little help,!
Gary Ferraro yes... I have no reverse... when I shift to “D” he’s works fine running right change normally all the forward gears. Only lost the reverse “option “. The shifter change and the “R” appear in the dash panel but the wheels don’t have any power...
In this trans you have an input drum, the first set of clutches is for reverse, possible they are no good. You also have a low/reverse clutch, but if the car is driving fine forward it may not be that. Do you have access to a scan tool?
Hi Gary my name is jeff ! I have a question about my liberty . I recently got the p1745 VLP line pressure too high . I said screw it and went and got another trans slapped her in and it’s stuck in limp mode ? My understanding is the VLP counters need to be reset or re programmed idk. This is why I’m reaching out to you? What do I do next sir?
@@baylivin1 Hi Jeff, The VLP Counters need to be reset through a scan tool, until this is done Trans will not shift. If you know someone with a good scan tool snap-on or Autel, have them do it, takes 5 minutes.
Gary, my 722.6 in my 05 S55 amg seems to be flaring up between shifts. I overhauled the valve body, got new filter and new conductor plate. The shifts are not very firm. It seems like it hangs up between shifts like the tq not locking up. Are there any common problems to look out for?
Gary Ferraro all shifts, no difference hot or cold. The car has about 700HP and you rip on it all day without issue, just at low speed/rpm the shifts seem very sloppy. Trans has the blue top solenoids, could it be a solenoid going bad?
Hi Gary. Great how-to video. I progressively lost reverse on an '06 42 RLE and the PCM gave a P0700 code, which translates to the TCM, but everyone says the TCMs are super-reliable. The forward gears are still functioning properly, so I don't think it is the TCM. Could it be that the solenoid pack caused the fault? I pulled the pan off, and the magnet is clean and so is the oil. That probably rules out a mechanical failure. I don't have the time and funds to keep replacing bits until it fixes the fault. Any advice? Thanks
Emil Muller ok. Do you have a scan tool that reads data? The p0700 code is a generic code may be more present. Did this happen suddenly? How is forward
Yep. I got a Bosch Multiscan OBDII. And it threw up only this one transmission code. Forward is fine, I drove in both OD and Normal, after the reverse fail, and all the shifts seemed like it always was. The reverse started to slip progressively more in about a fortnight's driving, noticed it when backing up at work and into my garage. Then I backed up onto a sloped driveway on Thursday morning, and nothing. No expensive noises, just no backwards motion whatsoever. Driving back from work Thursday night, I rolled into my garage, engaged reverse, and the car seemed to move about an inch, and then stopped. That made me rule out mechanical failure and run the scan.
Where are you getting your parts from? I've been looking for a kit to rebuild a 42RLE-VLP and I'm not having any luck. The trans go kit SK 42RLE-VLP is the only one I can find and it is no where to be found.
Hi Gary I have a question In my 2010 dodge charger the transmission was lurching so I replaced the 2 sensors on the valve body and accidentally took apart the valve body and the check balls fell out and the shim I put everything back but now it dosent come out of second any idea what could be wrong thnx
The 2 in the case under the valvebody ,the pistons first and the springs. The one in the valvebody, piston first then springs. The one at the bottom of the case, springs first, then piston then cover and snap ring
Hey Gary, I have a P0935 code on my 2010 Jeep Wrangler jk with a 3.8L engine with no other codes.. I have no symptoms besides a check engine light. I was wondering if I should be replacing the line pressure sensor or should I check anything before I start taking it apart? Maybe like a fuse or connection ?
Gary Ferraro when I clear the code it goes away until I restart the vehicle. Even after driving it after clearing the code, as soon as I restart it the code pops back up.. and I should note that I’m not sure if I have leak for sure. I saw a few drops but doubting it has a leak from that.
@@nwbuildz8722 ok, so this is a hard code it will not clear, this sensor powers up with 5 volts, may have to check to see if it's getting 5 volts, have you disconnected the connector to see if any corrosion got in there

Hi Gary, first I wanted to thank you so much for making this video! It was really helpful when I first dropped my valve body to replace the Pressure Transducer Sensor and solenoid. I do have a question though. I recently started getting a hard P0740 code and I was wondering if it is possible that a faulty Solenoid Pack could through this code or if I should look into getting a new Torque Converter. The vehicle is a 2007 Dodge Dakota with the 42RLE and it had the tranny rebuilt about 4yrs ago with around 95,000mi on it, 115,000 mi on the truck now. Thank You and have a great day!
@@GaryFerraro Also am I risking damage to the tranny by driving it without doing a quick relearn? Or continuing to drive it with this code until I figure out how to fix it? 90% of the the shifts are smooth but occasionally there is a delay between 1-2 and 2-3 but I'm sure that is because I haven't done the quick relearn. I apologize for so many questions but I don't know who else to ask. If you have a patreon account I'd be happy to donate to you for your advice. Again Thank you for taking time to respond
@@Stephen-gn3bo ok, so you overhauled the trans? The P0740 code code means the converter can no longer fully lock-up, driving it will produce a lot of heat which is bad for the trans. There are a few things that can cause this code, converter, pump bushing, by pass valve(behind the pump)
@@GaryFerraro The previous owner paid a trans shop (over $3k) to rebuild the tranny before I bought it (4yrs ago). All I did to it was replace the EPC soloniod and transducer sensor about 4months ago, which fixed a different problem I was having of the tranny occasionally not up shifting and getting stuck in 2nd.
I have p0760. I replaced solenoid pack and did the relearn process. When shifting into third the Rpms shoot up like it goes into neutral. I performed a shifter position test and it failed. It said C1 stuck open all the time

Got it. Thanks again for your help Gary

Very nice video very illustrated very well explained ❤
You have codes present
@@GaryFerraro P0740. It started with really jerky shifts from 2-3 & 3-4. The jerk was more exaggerated in 4lo.
Drove it today after it sat for a long time w/dead battery. New codes say P0733. P1790. Never seen them before.
It finally failed after 3 years by topping out on the highway at 40mph & 5k rpm. It is now stuck in this state & doesnt seem to know it should shift after 2nd. Just hovers in 3rd... I believe. I'm just learning today I have a 4spd trans.

Did you do anything else to the valvebody other than the solenoid pack? Wondering if the manual valve is not hooked up
Well to tell you the truth, I came in on the tail end of this repair.
1987cutlass454 i put mine back together but its not moving forward how is the pin supposed to go i just pushed it back and slit it in
Brian Sanchez in this video at 49:06 it show how he puts it all the way in low and hooks the spring loaded rod on the end.
Thanks

Hi Gary, I love your videos. I just serviced my 2014 dodge grand caravan 6 speed transmission . I was unable to snug one of the filter bolt. Thanks Gary - I don’t have a scan tool. I am just getting the codes from turning the ignition on and off rapidly 3 times. Do you know if there is a scan tool for a few hundred bucks that will read the CVI values? Otherwise I will find a shop that can pull the CVI for me. THanks
Also - I have had th 0841 code display previously.
How do I tell apart the overdrive and underdrive acumutators if they fall out?
Great video Gary,
I just recently installed a Transgo shift kit in my 42RLE and repaired a pan leak. My Jeep Liberty road tested out great but when I got back home the park doesn't want to hold it just clicks and the jeep roles. My question is this a cable adjustment.
I dont believe there is an adjustment on this cable, if you disconnect the cable does the car have park?
Gary Ferraro yes, and it feels like there is just a bit more movement on the shifter arm when I disconnect the linkage.
does it have park with the linkage disconnected?
Gary Ferraro yes it does
ok, check the brackets that the cable hooks upto, the one that bolts to the transmission, may have to be loosened and moved alittle, sometimes we have to bend the bracket slightly, should be a bracket with 2 bolts i believe
thanks for sharing the video gary
i recently rebuild 09G transmission but after the rebuild the transmission brakes in 6th gear and wont go over 50 mph but if i down shift to 5th gear it accelerates above 50 mph
it like another clutch pack is interfering with 6th gear
Acts like it binds up in 6th?
no it shifts ok in 6th but wont go over 50mph
like it needs more power to go over 50mph and it the same when i ran the car in the air
Kinda sounds like an engine issue if yo have no power
no gary its not like that the car wont go over 50 mph in (6th) like there is something inside the transmission holding 6th gear from aceleration
what i did is teardown the transmission apart and i found k1 clutch is starting to burn so its not releasing in 6th gear which is b1 clutch
How much oil does it take afterwards? Do refill as service or overhaul? 8.3L?
good question. use overhaul (dry fill) spec if there is one otherwise do whatever normal service spec would be and measure with dipstick
Hi Gary, Great video thank you so much for sharing knowledge.
I have a question, I have a 04 Dakota 3.7L with 147k on her.

Gary, my 722.6 in my 05 S55 amg seems to be flaring up between shifts. I overhauled the valve body, got new filter and new conductor plate. The shifts are not very firm. It seems like it hangs up between shifts like the tq not locking up. Are there any common problems to look out for?
Happens on all shifts? any difference when the car is cold compared to when its hot?
Having same issue did you ever figure out the cause?
The accumulator pistons are numbered, which is the OD, the higher or lower number?

hey garry my 42rle solenoid pack i think is fauity .there was water before i rebuilt .im assembling now but i realize 4 solenoids in pack dont click with 12 v test on each probe .am i doing something wrong or are they shot .trans shifted before but was a shudder in od lockup.
I honestly never checked the solenoids that way, the solenoids are powered up through a fuse and the computer supplies the ground, anyway if there was water present, i would change out the pack
wow thanks for replying so soon ,so i had no codes though if these solenoids were bad wouldnt i had a code?
Yes it would, but once the water gets in there it may be just a matter of time before they go bad
true .dont wanna be in this trans again .lol thanks ,I will order new ,not worth the risk ,got it.
tou have been so helpful in this build .god bless my maaan.
What do all the different solenoids do? I'm planning on replacing solenoid pack because i have 1st and 2nd but when it tries to go into 3rd, rpms shoot up and never grabs it.
Sounds like the o/d clutch is no good, do you have a scan tool that shows data, the clutch has whats called C.V.I(clutch volume index) the is read through a number, if you can get a scan tool and let me know what the number is i can tell you if the clutch is good or bad
@@GaryFerraro I was only able to get a generic code for incorrect 3rd gear ratio and a p0700 which doesn't tell you anything.
@@itsrizz1507 Was the code P0733? More than likely your o/d is no good, just want to verify with the C.V.I Number
@@GaryFerraro alright got it scanned with a better scan tool and the cvi for the od clutch was 89. Lr clutch was 38 2-4 clutch was 48 and ud clutch was 40.
@@itsrizz1507 OK, the C.V.I Values are ok, you probably have a stripped spline or broken hub
Hey Garry I just finished my 42rle for my Chrysler 300 and immediately I got a possible limp mode .has new solenoid pack new cluches ,new converter .do I have to reset comp?it doesn't shift no power off start .
Can you tell me what code your getting? Have you tried to clear the code?
Gary Ferraro no codes yet just drove 5 mib
Minutes
Gary Ferraro
No codes I just rebuilt with new clutches ,new solenoid pack 8.2 qts full and seems it's in limp mode.
what type of scanner are you using, check engine light on?
I want to know how you get it to release out of the transmission to replace the solenoid valve
If you mean drop out the valvebody, the selector has to be placed in manual one(low) then the body will come out
Gary Ferraro it took some work but I got it. Thank you
2011 jeep wrangler changed valve body has error code PO935 Hydraulic pressure sensor circuit high any Thoughts Thanks !
If you clear the code, how fast does it come back?
@@GaryFerraro As soon as vehicle is restarted ! Thank you .
when i hook up a snap on scanner the line pressure is reading only half of desired pressure ? for instance actual pressure 74 psi Desired 134 at idle no throttle
@@machinegunkelley3230 These solenoids lower line pressure at idle. but if this code comes right back, you have to check to see if you have a 5 volt reference.
My e-mail is gsferraro@yahoo.com
send me an e-mail and later on when i get home i can send you some info
@@GaryFerraro Ok thank you which plug do i check for the 5 volt reference the large 10 pin connector that goes to the solenoid pack ?
Hello gary ,so i got 2 codes on my rebuilt 42rle .po700 and po731.reminder i bought the solenoid pack from a used vendor .not tested and rebuilt torque converter . seems itstays in limp mode locked up converter mode. can this be the solenoid pack?
P0731 Is gear ratio error in 1st. Do you have access to a scan tool to get me some information?
obd simple scaanner only
that wont work, no one with a snap-on scanner?
got po720 p0731 p1790 . trans doesnt shift stays in seems limp mode shutters little on rolling not acceleration ,i accidentally mixed wires on input and output shaft .can this be problem?
hey gary got an update . changed both input and output sensors found metal residue on output sensor from not removing it in the first place upon rebuild .possibly when trans was on its side ,puddle of trans fluid sensor picked up residue .changed and now shifts all gears.wheeeew that was a close one . first time on a 42rle rebuild not bad. thanks for your input though. there is a little lag in 1-2 shift but doable .not really sure if it would be an easy adjust
Is there a TCC lockup solenoid on the valve body?
No, That is for line pressure
@@GaryFerraro darn. Do you have any idea where the TCC solenoid is? I was thinking it’s part of the solenoid pack but I can’t confirm where it is.
My 2004 TJ is kicking a P0740 and it’s the TCC circuit lockup issue I think.
@@patriotfox7192 It is in the solenoid pack, the P0740 code is a mechanical code meaning solenoid pack may not fix it
@@GaryFerraro yeah. I’m thinking a new torque converter right after I test the pump to make sure it has the correct pressure.
Get code P0734, 1776 on 04 Liberty, but intermittent. Mainly problem uphill going from 3rd to 4th. If i drive with o/d off and once i get to 55mph turn o/d back on, it shifts fine to 4th (O/D) almost as if doing it manually. havent dropped pan yet but fluid smells fine. no other rough shifts. if i clear the code it wont come back right away and occiasionally it shift as normal. just had solenoid pack replaced 3 or so years ago. any suggestions? fluid issue, speed sensors? thanks.
How is your shift to 2nd? do you have a scan tool that shows data like a snap-on scanner? P0734 is gear ratio error in 4th and P1776 is solenoid switch valve stuck in low position(very hard to diagnose) If you have a snap-on scanner there is something called CVI (clutch volume index) would like to know what they are if possible
shift 1/2 2/3 just fine. It struggles uphill, tach goes to about 3000 rpm and then kicks to 4th once i take foot off gas. On ideal driving surface, like flat straight away, it doesnt have that issue, only a slight shutter. Dont have a snap on but will look into it.
If you know someone, have them check the CVI Values
I have the same problem, did you find the solution?. I’m breaking my head
which code do you have
I pulled part of this out didn’t come out as I planed some bearings fell out am I dealing with something more than solenoid pack ?
ok, just to confirm, you pulled the valvebody out of the trans?
From what I am understanding I pulled out part of the valve body not sure why the other half didn’t come out or how to pull it out girlfriend talk me into something I didn’t really want to do in her words it’s simple look at this TH-cam video she pointed me to the wrong TH-cam video
Transmission is not out of the truck
I’m really looking for instructions how to pull it out I think I missed a step
Basically I don’t have the stem sticking out of the valve body pack like in this video
I'm working on a 2005 jeep and I'm having trouble with the spring loaded pawl when I put the vavle body back in its getting caught on something. What am I doing wrong
You have to put the linkage in low range (on the valvebody) and it should go in
@@GaryFerraro yeah after I took it out to put a shift solenoid in and it got moved. After i put it together it turned the shifter and it would click but 3 times. I took it back down and it's fine (thank god) solenoid fixed problem video helped alot. Thanks alot

Hello sir, I need help. I have one dodge charger 2010 42rle transmission. This transmission was stuck in the 2nd gear didn't change gears up shift and down shift. Then I m dismantle the transmission and inspect all parts. I found one clutch tension spring cracked. Then after I changed complete parts and fix the transmission back to the car. Then after make a test drive, the transmission hitting hard when changing the gear from 1st to 2nd and slightly hitting 3rd to 4th. I'm check fluid level is OK, no have fault code.
Did you happen to scan the car before you took the trans down the first time? Sounds like high possible high pressure, did you change the clutch plates when the tyrans was out?
@@GaryFerraro Yes I had done it before. I got it one fault the L/R solenoid circuit. Then I'm change it the solenoid assembly and also change it clutch plates and pressure plates. The pcm have no fault codes right now about the transmission. I made a test drive the gears changing proper, and the rpm between 1500 to 2500. I have only the hitting problem when the gear changes from 1st to 2nd and 3rd to 4th.
