You actually installed the forward assembly, reverse drum, and band and then removed it all just to show us how to put it in again from a different angle, respect

Man I love your videos. I'm an engine builder and I really appreciate you putting these videos out. I've done a few transmissions power glides and th350's but I dont know much about them. I recently have found myself needing to do a couple of 700's and a 4l60 for my own stuff. man you are a life saver! You have the most complete no BS videos on transmissions on TH-cam! Thanks Brother! Also...I feel your pain on voice overs lol

this video was just what i needed ...i removed the servo and the band moved into the way of the servo pin so that i cant push the new servo back into the case ....2 things i learned 1 being how the band sits in the case and2 how to be able to get to the band without removing the trans from the car to get this issue sorted out ...great video very good instructions all through it all . thank you for going through it for everyone to understand....see how he explains how the band would move and not allow the servo to go into the case that is exactly what happened to me and this video was a very big help to get my issue sorted out thank you so much

I also had issues with the governor being at first a broken gear that I replaced ... cleaned up the governor with carb cleaner and after installing it it shifted once or twice and was once again stuck in its boar ....
I have since ordered a 10mm boar brush that I plan on cleaning up the inner sleeve of the governor in hopes that that will help keep it from hanging up in the future...
I also plan in doing a full trans flush to clean out all the old fluid from the transmission and converter...hopefully this will be enough to get this trans shifting gears again like it was just recently,
I had no issues untill just recently when the governor gear went any input I’m real thankful for.
Great video , great information thank you !.

Hiram I got yo tell you that your videos were prefect. I'm sitting at my bench and have just finished my 700r4 after watching your parts 1 & 2. I did this trans years ago and followed a guy on a DVD and he took only 2hrs to complete the reassembling process. Your info was great, I found so many mistakes from the first time I did it also. Thanks so much for doing this it was a pleasure getting this task completed and with your help I'll be on the road this spring.

I have over 40 years experience in auto repair and the only things I haven't tackled are rear end rebuilds and automatic transmissions. I have a vehicle with a 700R4 that will soon be needing a rebuild so I thought this might be a good thing to watch and learn from, and maybe attempt it myself. What I took away from this video is that to do the right job you can't do it without the knowledge and depth of parts that a pro like you have. You are truly an ace at what you do. If I weren't in New York you would be seeing me soon at your shop. Thanks for taking the time to make your videos. They are great.

I know I'm late to the party, but others like me that just found your channel might get this info.
In the ATSG Upgrade book, on page 95 they back up and give an explanation on the boost springs . It basically echos what you said, "if you have tight clearances, use the booster springs, they do more good than harm."
Just a little info to give to the newbies that didn't have the book or upgrade book.
    Thanks for your teaching expertise.

This has been an awesome video for me (along with part one) as I work through the disassembly and rebuild process of my 700r4.
If you still monitor the questions on this Hiram, I have one.
The green seal which is designed to separate the 3rd and 4th fluid, in my kit it was blue, and it seems a little loose to me. I goo’d it up with the green goo, but it only takes a slight knock and it comes out of its groove easy. I have since assembled the drum, I kinda hope it wasn’t knocked and is still seated. Do I need to disassemble and put a tighter seal on?

My transmission just started making wierd noises sounds like its coming from the torque converter. Really have no over drive and all the gears shifts way late i have to floor it for it to shift.
I have a spare trans that took a dump 13 months after i paid $2700 to have it rebuilt. Ima take it apart tomorrow and see whats wrong with it..
Thank you for this 1 and 2 part video.

Will be my first automatic transmission!
I once learned to be a car mechanic!
But I still have a question!
Nothing has been oiled but only partially lubricated
Doesn't that damage the oil pump if it starts dry and has to suck in oil first?

Mr Hiram, I watched both of your videos on the 700r4 rebuild and basically followed step by step but used a little bit different parts in an effort to upgrade my trans to hopefully survive behind my 425hp sbc. Now I have a little bit of a problem. My TC will not engage the oil pump. I did upgrade the pump internals to a 13 vane 4L60 pump. Is there a difference in the keyway opening or snout size between the 700r4 and 4L60 TC? Like an idiot, I did test fit the pump bushing to the snout of the TC but I never did test fit the pump.

    • @AutomaticTransmission
      @AutomaticTransmission  2 ปีที่แล้ว

What year 4L60E torque converter you're using?
      1999 and up are different.
You should spin the torque converter in until you can't get your fingers between the converter and the pump through the bottom.

For everybody watching this is actually a 4L60 transmission basically the same as the 700R4 except they installed a drive accumulator with a tube coming from the oil pump to the accumulator to soften the engagement into drive. When you take the oil pan off you can see the tube and the accumulator on the valve body That's how you can tell the difference

if the load springs cannot cause any problems, and may help the clutches come off, it seems it would make sense to just use them.

Of course, that's why I showed from old manuals both options leaving it for guys to decide on which would make sense to you and go from there.

@@AutomaticTransmission likely when the transmission started getting more precise electronic and hydraulic control features, someone just assumed they werent needed anymore, but what is likely, is the mechanical clutches just do not come on and off as quick as the electrical signals, and hydraulic inputs try to apply and release them due to centrifugal force, drag, and pressure. sometimes engineers make calculations and assumptions, but in the real work, they dont work they way they thing they will.. the technicians in the field are the ones who solve most of the problems in any field..

Do you know who solved the problem with this transmission way back in the day?? He was an engineer that came from Dayton Tire. All of the Dealerships were sending warranty work to him.
