I got the Legion 9 pro and barely get 2 hours of battery life just streaming music (at low volume) and using iGPU with display set at 60Hz and dimmed to the lowest brightness level. Also, all RGB lighting turned off and set to the quiet mode. I'm not sure how you're getting over 4 hours of battery life!
Hey David! Great video as always, could you do an ultimate purchase guide between 2023 legion pro 5, legion 7 and legion 9? That would be great to see them head to head.
The Legion 7i Pro with 4080 only feels cheap until you boot up a game and run it on ultra settings. This is my first Lenovo product and I'm all in with them after dealing with companies like Asus and Steelseries.
i bought Legion 7i pro with RTX 4090 pure for gaming and i dont see reason for buying Legion 9 which cost 1700 EUR more lol plus i use external keyboard mouse and monitor lol i don't know how hard you have to hit your head to go for LEgion 9 lol
Absolute distain for consumers by Lenovo. Lets strip the 7 of anything good so we can double the price of the 9. Basically paying double for a water loop that doesnt work and a fancy lid. Can get laptops with similar specs for half the price
Decided to get the legion 9, Lenovo is having a fairly decent discount for 2024 refresh preorders.$2900 for the 4090. I think it worth the $500 premium over legion 7. But that’s just me.
Sad to see Lenovo being greedy and downgrading their Legion 7, and given it to the Legion 9... and "appropiate" price hike.. I was looking forward to upgrade my 2021, Legion 7 with 5800H RTX 3080 16GB :( looking at other brands for sure.
I bought the 7i Pro with RTX 4080, but found it too heavy and large for my needs. Performance was great, though, I cannot fault it if you don’t mind a bulkier and heavier laptop. I sent it back and ordered a Legion 14 Slim instead, with a gorgeous 120 Hz OLED screen and AMD Ryzen CPU and an RTX 4060. Works perfectly for my needs as it is significantly smaller and lighter but still runs all my games at 60+ FPS in Quiet mode without annoying fan noise. Much cheaper, too, it was around £1300 with 32GB DDR5 RAM.
Too many "disappointments" in reviews of the Legion Pro 7i across the board. I know even the 4070, not to mention i9 (HX), can probably smoke the one in my Dell XPS 9530, 4070 (@ 40 watts), not to mention the i9 (H), but it sounds as though Lenovo shaved off too many things from the Pro 7i this year to merit selling my XPS. I almost did, too, but the performance gains can't compensate for the 7i trimmings, at least not for me. The 9i is simply not in my financial orbit; I value my vitals too much! Anyway, thanks for the review! It helped with the decision-making process! 👍
I just found your channel. Absolutely great work. Subscribed instantly. Thinking of purchasing the legion 7i, but then I saw your review of the alienware m18. What would you recommend? How did you manage to get the legion 7i price down to 2k here in the UK? Cheers and love your work:)
both m18 and legion 7 are great laptops but what is your main use case? if you want a desktop replacement then the m18 is a better pick. If you want a laptop that is portable then get the legion. Power wise they are both great performers there, there is literally nothing between them. With regards to price its actually been even cheaper than I paid for mine! Keep your eyes on hotukdeals, we always post when Lenovo drop a good discount code :)
The only significant difference between the Legion 7 and 9 is the miniLED display. Other features that were removed from the 7 and put into the 9 is exactly the same move Asus did a couple years ago with the Zephyrus line-up. They have since walked that strategy back and put those featurs back in place on the lower models. I hope Lenovo does the same. As you stated in your review, the water cooling solution doesn't work very well - on par with existing heat pipe and vapor chamber solutions. Now, with that said, I was able to price out the Legion 9i for $3345 with multiple stacked discounts that include upgrades - 4090, 64GB DDR5, and Windows 11 Pro. Is that price low enough to justify the price? Decisions, decisions.
You could buy Legion 7 4080 AMD processor for 1609£ or 4090 for 1941£ from Lenovo website. What a bargain. I snapped 4080 version can't wait. Hope it will last for years as it's my first gaming laptop. Moving away from desktop for portability and comfort and downsizing. Fingers crossed
wow that's a mental price, I recently bought a 4080 legion 7 Ryzen model (Review almost finished) a couple of weeks ago for 1900 and thought that was good 🤣
@@MashITTech Yeah good price for 4080. blackfriday discount code got sold out in hours. People gone mental for it. Now 4080 selling for 1900 with another code
Ack. I want the screen of the 9 in the body of the 7 - that keyboard position on the 9 would drive me nuts. But I play RPGs more than anything, so I want the higher res screen. I really don’t care how the body LOOKS. Plastic is fine, and probably lighter anyway. I use a MacBook Pro for professional settings, so the gaming laptop would be just for me.
Well. I was worried about my Alienware M16 buy in anticipation of this review, but having watched this, I'm still satisfied with my choice. The M16 has been great. CPU performance in games is awesome and it sustains really high total power draw with GPU temps around what the 9i is doing anyway. BUT, I do think that internal water loop is neat and I am hoping to see more effective implementations of that tech by Lenovo and other brands in the future.
I think the closed loop is kind of gimmicky since it's a very closed loop system. If you got money to almost throw away and want the literal best, yes the 9i. But there's no way I could. The 7i with a 4080 was a stretch to convince the wife.
Great review. Could you shed any light on the Legion Pro 7i battery drain issue, where allegedly when running at max CPU + GPU workload, the included smaller-sized 330W GaN charger simply cannot provide enough power to the laptop. Resulting in heavy battery depletion even while plugged in (up to 10% an hour) and consequently a very short battery life.
Given the i7's resolution depending on the FPS and games you play as well, that combined with undervolting the GPU and CPU, the battery could probably last a little longer than 4 hours perhaps. Thoughts?
Please help me, I am confused between Legion 9i / 7i and M3 Pro Max 36 GB 1TB varaint. I have no problem regarding the price, and both the OS are ok for me. I use a few VM for ethical hacking apart from these I program and also do video edits. Please recommend which one will be worth.
@@tancordancer4875 so I ended up returning the 9i because they had a sale that dropped it by another $500 and then I couldn't justify paying an additional 1k between 7 and 9. Over all, I am very happy with that decision. But, if I were able to get the 9 for the same price, or within $200, I say get the 9.
I went through a lot of laptop this year and I think I will be settling on the Legion 9i (delivery date 10/17). I went from an Alienware M16 4090 -> Asus Strix Scar 16 4090 -> Acer Preditor Triton 17x 4090. Display for me was #1 priority. Since this year they had ZERO OLED for gaming laptops. It seems like this mLED was the one to beat. I will be mainly using this for vacation video editing and secondary gaming on the go.
I think you are going to love the mini LED, it is almost on par with OLED and was the most responsive mini LED I have tested. The screen and the build is the real highlight of the laptop, it is a shame the water lop was a bit of a gimmick but performance was still great regardless. Let me know what you think of yours.
Do you know about PWM from mini-LED? You gonna have eye strain because of PWM, it is on all brightness levels, while IPS is much safer for eyes, because it doesnt have or has the high frequency PWM at lower brightness levels
@@tima_net3289 I am well aware about PWM as I am someone that suffers severely with migraines if a low HZ PWM is used (such as in OLED phones and screens, and I just cannot buy OLED as much as I love the picture). This mini LED does have PWM but the frequency is very high and gives me no eye strain
I also had a lot of laptops this year. I had (and still have) razer blade 16 4090. And also Triton 17X. I was unhappy with triton QA and razer 4k is too taxing. I have legion 9i now, but I missed Scar 16. How is Scar 16 compared to legion 9i?
Was going to upgrade from the legion 7 rtx 3080 to the rtx 4090 version. I probably wont now after seeing this video. Taking away the input lights on the back and the metal build was what made me buy it in the first place. Legion 9 looks nice, but not at that price, Jesus!
Looking at getting one which would really be a better option price isnt a issue just want what would be better? And last the longest? Whats your recommendation or if anyone has any recommendations id love to hear it. Thank you!
Enjoying this review. Just paused to say this. At the Leveno website it claims different display specs than you have here at 5:13 . They clam. 100 percent adobe RGB as well has 100 percent on others. Are they Bs'ing or are you mistaken or am I confused.?
yeah, they are being overly generous there I think but also they have multiple panel manufacturers (the usual panel lottery) so maybe one has slightly better colour space.
Legion 9 now has 14900 CPU and better RAM with 64gb as standard - discounts are now available and you can pick up a Nvidia 4090 version for £3500 or the 4080 for just over £3000
I am always curious if anyone purchases a laptop based on the speakers because in every use case the best solution is to either use headphones or monitor speakers. Like if you're concerned about sound then you're already using alternative audio outputs and if you're using the onboard speakers on any laptop they're all going to sound bad relative to speakers or headphones. To me these speakers are more than enough for any mundane tasks and if you need anything more robust you're going to be using an output device regardless. IDK if I'm the only one but I never really understood the concern about having top of the line audio because all of it is trash relative to any pair of headphones from the gas station.
Whilst I always use a decent set of headphones or speakers when possible. I value a good set of speakers as I am often using the laptop say in the kitchen or lounge listening to podcasts/TH-cam/music whilst doing other tasks. Having a decent set of laptop speakers means I am not cringing whilst listening to tinny laptop speakers. The MacBook Pro 14 and 16 has speakers so good I will often listen to them rather than plug in a set of speakers

I am good thank you mate, incredibly busy as I have a ton of laptops stacked up and not enough time to review them all 🤣 How are you? Glad you are still enjoying the 7, last years 7 was the pinnacle of value, performance and premium from a legion laptop IMHO
I am assuming you are talking about last years AMD model as there is no AMD this year, and if so I already reviewed it here: th-cam.com/video/JkYmIikXXFw/w-d-xo.html
Completely not worth it. I think they are testing the market. If people are stupid enough to pay ridiculously more for absolutely no gain at all wrapped around "premium" marketing.
I am waiting for the delivery of my 7i 8th gen today. I bought a mint used one because I want the ability to return it. I am not a gamer at all only video and photo editing. So the screen specs are a bit of a bummer for me but the 4 grand for 9i is not an option right now. I am going to search you channel to see if you reviewed the Asus Pro Book pro. That screen is pretty serious for color grading. Thank you. Great channel and video.
I haven't had many Asus laptops this year, I guess if you are concerned about colours you may want to try and get an OLED laptop. If I am honest I always edit on my 38" ultra wide so the screen hasn't been an issue for me, it looks good and is very responsive but certainly not the most colour accurate. I would recommend calibrating it though if you plan on editing on it

A silly attempt at segmentation. Why not just call them 7i and 7i Pro. The price diff is enormous for just some stripped off tiny details. Well, the screen and the beautiful lid may be worth a little extra to some, but no way that much. I's like they expect people to buy it just because it is expensive and have a "brand". No way I would go for the 9i. Love that sardaukar scene from Dune though. 😎
I've been wanting to try gaming peripherals on a laptop for a while now because with a desktop you can't change the polling rate of the keyboard. And the mouse can do 125hz like the trackpad but there's no ground if you change it to the other two options 500hz/1000hz.
I wold add that the 7 has a 240 Hz display while the 9 only a 165 Hz, I think that for 4 grand it had to brink 240 Hz to the table, esetially beacause it is a gaming pc and it has the specs to run at high fps in most of the games... What a shame
price cannot be justified for 9i. opted for 7i 4080. despite loving carbon fiber and forged carbon lets be honest we wont be looking at it much at all. plastic build wont affect me at all either. for the extra 1000+ dollars, can get something else
Just the review I was waiting for! Now that they’re pretty much the same price point, would you recommend the Legion 9i or the Alienware x16? Appreciate all the work you put into these comparisons!
if the price is the same I would take the Legion 9. As much as I love the x16, the soldered ram, 300nit screen, worse CPU and power delivery makes it inferior to the legion 9
The 9i is better but I just got the x16 with a 4080 an i9 and 32g of ram (6000mhz) plus a qhd 240hz screen for $2600 at that price point the x16 is very compelling. The x16 also has better built in speakers and more of them. And a slightly better keyboard. Other then that the 9i wins

@@MashITTech yess will be waiting for it then🤗
The Legion 7i Pro with 4080 only feels cheap until you boot up a game and run it on ultra settings. This is my first Lenovo product and I'm all in with them after dealing with companies like Asus and Steelseries.
Same here 💯
It really doesnt feel cheap does it
It doesn't feel cheap at all. It feels super solid.
I’m curious about the durability of the water cooling system.
i bought Legion 7i pro with RTX 4090 pure for gaming and i dont see reason for buying Legion 9 which cost 1700 EUR more lol plus i use external keyboard mouse and monitor lol i don't know how hard you have to hit your head to go for LEgion 9 lol
I guess for people who have the money it all comes to the look and the design and the fact that it is a bit thinner
Absolute distain for consumers by Lenovo.
Lets strip the 7 of anything good so we can double the price of the 9.
Basically paying double for a water loop that doesnt work and a fancy lid. Can get laptops with similar specs for half the price
👍
Couldn’t have said it better.
I noticed at 4:25 you have the light bars in the front and on the keyboard synced. That’s a nice touch!
Decided to get the legion 9, Lenovo is having a fairly decent discount for 2024 refresh preorders.$2900 for the 4090. I think it worth the $500 premium over legion 7. But that’s just me.
Inverted motherboard yuck!!
Sad to see Lenovo being greedy and downgrading their Legion 7, and given it to the Legion 9... and "appropiate" price hike.. I was looking forward to upgrade my 2021, Legion 7 with 5800H RTX 3080 16GB :( looking at other brands for sure.
Decided on 7i mostly relevant to cost, received it for $2,450.50+tax.
Much cheaper, too, it was around £1300 with 32GB DDR5 RAM.
nice choice
DO you think its good to grab a Legion right now, or wait until Christmas when more premium laptops go on sale.
if you are not in a rush wait for Black Friday, should be some great deals then
Too many "disappointments" in reviews of the Legion Pro 7i across the board.
Thanks for the reply. Going for the legion with an rtx 4080👍
I bought Legion Pro 7i from a friend and am completely satisfied
Don’t forget the price 😂
I think it's worth the value with the discount, it has a very strong and nice built quality
which discount codes did you stack?
Now 4080 selling for 1900 with another code
great comparison video!
I just love my Pro 5 with AMD Ryzen. More power than I could ever need. Never overclocked it.
Ack. I want the screen of the 9 in the body of the 7 - that keyboard position on the 9 would drive me nuts. But I play RPGs more than anything, so I want the higher res screen.
I really don’t care how the body LOOKS. Plastic is fine, and probably lighter anyway. I use a MacBook Pro for professional settings, so the gaming laptop would be just for me.
use the price difference for a really good monitor.. or vacation
Thoughts?
Razer blade 16 vs Legion 9 ?
Good idea
Alienware m16 vs razer blade 16 vs 9
I haven't got the m16 in the studio atm as I got rid of my intel model to get the new AMD model which isn't here yet :(
Please help me, I am confused between Legion 9i / 7i and M3 Pro Max 36 GB 1TB varaint. I have no problem regarding the price, and both the OS are ok for me.
I use a few VM for ethical hacking apart from these I program and also do video edits.
Please recommend which one will be worth.
For VM support and hacking you would be better with either the 7 or the 9, the 7 would be better because of its better battery life
Excellent comparison, exactly the information you want when making a decision.
Fantastic review/comparison video!!
if they are similar, than we dont need to pay more, am i right?
You are right, money talks but when you know how much it costs to you the differences do not make justice. Wait one more year.
If the 9i just had a 300-400 euro difference than the Pro 7i, would you recommend it?
Yes for the better build quality and features
@@MashITTech I am trying my luck with discounts though I will have to wait till Monday. If not then I will have to settle for the Pro 7i.
I was able to get the 9i 4080 with coupons and before taxes, $2889, which is really only $500 more than the 7i 4080
@@AddictOfLearninghow is the 9i? I have read it cuts into your hand while gaming?I can get the 9 for almost the same price as 7.
@@Dserebrakov do you prefer this legion 9 to your blade 16?
The 9 is already on sale
where? I missed that

What I never understood is the slim models had an SD card reader The regular seven didn't but once the nine came they added it Make that make sense
Legion 9 now has 14900 CPU and better RAM with 64gb as standard - discounts are now available and you can pick up a Nvidia 4090 version for £3500 or the 4080 for just over £3000
This is such a bummer move by Lenovo. Legion 7 now feels like a Legion 5 and that's not a good thing..
so so true
The MacBook Pro 14 and 16 has speakers so good I will often listen to them rather than plug in a set of speakers
bro i am so confussed please help me I know that new GPU are gonna release for desktop in next month(sep) so should I wait for 5 month then buy a 5090laptop or I should get the 4090 legion 7 or 9i?

Is this a good total price fo the Legion 9i?

Just bought Pro 7i for 2,000 with RTX 2080. Couldn't justify the extra 1500+ for the pro 9i. Hello, if you reading this i would like to know your opinion between Titan GT77hx and Legion 7 Pro. for longevity im not looking for the screen but looking at their cooling, what is your opinion between the 2 for longevity sake im considering to buy either of the 2. Thank you
I would say the cooling is better on the GT77 over the legion 👍

I am good thank you mate, incredibly busy as I have a ton of laptops stacked up and not enough time to review them all 🤣 How are you? Glad you are still enjoying the 7, last years 7 was the pinnacle of value, performance and premium from a legion laptop IMHO
@@MashITTechare you going to review the amd Legion 7?
I am assuming you are talking about last years AMD model as there is no AMD this year, and if so I already reviewed it here: th-cam.com/video/JkYmIikXXFw/w-d-xo.html
@@MashITTech there is this year's model, with 7945hx and 4090

Completely not worth it. I think they are testing the market. If people are stupid enough to pay ridiculously more for absolutely no gain at all wrapped around "premium" marketing.
my legion slim 7 with magnesium casing and fingerprint scanner from 2021 feels premium after watching this.
Please help me between a Lenovo legion pro7 with Intel 9 and a Lenovo thinkpad with Intel 7 which are the best choice for an IA engineering student
I would recommend calibrating it though if you plan on editing on it
@@MashITTech Thanks for taking the time. I have a pro 4k specs BENq 32 inch on my desktop but the idea with this laptop is when I'm on the road. Can I please ask one more question. I just got my Lenovo 7i intel 13900 pro laptop today. It's weird how the ram upgrade is. Like it's dirty secret. No one is sure. Leveno says 32 is max and plenty of people are using 64gb. As an editor I need more ram but is it a waste since it slow you down to 4800MHZ. I just bought and may return 2 32gb sticks of DDR5 5200MHZ. Is that ok. I know the one tech on youtube used 4800 but I can't get that delievered on time. I'm not tech so I want to ask you. What do you think? Still not sure I'll keep this laptop but so far it's pretty cool. One guy with a popular channel only got 2 percent more specs with adobe premiere. YIKES this is what made me wonder.

I assume i could keep/upgrade the 9i for years to come?

Snagged a Legion 7 with a 4090 for 50% the cost of the 9. Could literally buy two of them for the price of one with the sale. Easy decision.
im getting 7hors out of my 7i 4090 just need to tune it 8 hours web bruising 5 hours of hd video playback not bad for intel latop at all
i want more companies to make sff pc with this type of spec
I wold add that the 7 has a 240 Hz display while the 9 only a 165 Hz, I think that for 4 grand it had to brink 240 Hz to the table, esetially beacause it is a gaming pc and it has the specs to run at high fps in most of the games... What a shame

Why the hell would you put liquid cooling in a laptop? Its going to have to be refilled or replaced at some point just like with AIO in tower PCs.
with the fact it seems to offer no real benefit at this point its more of a gimmick and if it ran dry would probably perform the same
What game you playing at 5:24
