Very good results for the Mitsubishi L200. At value standpoint it is the absolute winner.
Do a review and drag race for large SUVs trucks too, like the Nissan patrol, Toyota LC, Lexus LX, Cadillac escalade, Benz GLS etc...

There is a ranger raptor and a Dakar spec Hilux I think, but those are specialty type Utes tho. These ones are the most widely available and common spec ones with similar pricing (except for the x class)
The Mercedes and the Ford also have bigger engines at their disposal. Why use the smaller, less powerful for this comparison?

That frontier is old and the x class is the newer shape frontier. This is in Britain not USA or Canada and most of these trucks are sold all over the world.

Don't think so. Build quality is also far behind the competition. But have zu admit very simple constructed cars with tech from the last decade are pretty robust.
Toyatas are living on past glories. Quite fitting, seeing as the chassis on the 'new' Hilix is in fact a very slightly modified version of the one used for the last 15 years or so.

Yup. A better test would have been to run the trucks around the track for 1,000,000 miles caring 6 bags of cement in the back with an off road section thrown in. The Toyota would still be running fine, probably towing the others behind it.

haha I love it. Some always complain "why would you drag race a pickup" "why not this, that,how much can pull" blabla... because FUN. Reviews are everywhere, specs sheets as well. If youre a carguy youll understand. As well it is practical,since as carguys we drive a bit more "spiritedly" and we can observe where we stand IRL against competitor brands.
Showing us these cars from another perspective and having a bit of fun with them is entertaining. And drag races are always entertaining, be it pickup,lambo or lawnmower :) .
ChopStickZero most people use a truck as their daily driver and won’t haul or tow every single day. Performance/safety would matter to those people no different than it would with a car. I don’t tow constantly and the majority of the time I would like the truck to drive worth a damn. I’m all for drag races and brake tests. Just because it’s a truck doesnt mean it has to be slow like a big rig.

Ranger has a 3.2L diesel too. Hilux also has a better spec version. This 3.0 V6 from VW is a beast. Even the new generation 3.0 power stroke diesel from ford may not match the vw in sheer power.

@@hingholo8027 except for the vw and maybe the merc my vw t5 dsg already have unscheduled breakdown i had the tcm control unit replace on the dsg air con compressor was at 155k km and alternator only after 120k km it was fucking expensive while my friend toyota commuter is going strong at 400k km without a single hint of failure just service
The VW Amaroks often have major issues well before 100,000kms. They are not proper trucks at all.

Now amarok vs hsv Maloo gtsr w1. 474kw, 815nm and weighs 1.8t and it comes with a larger tray than any of them, so more useful too

I think they tested the most common spec with close to similar pricing (except for the x-class). The ranger raptor and bigger engined Hilux would fare better as they should but would also cost a lot more than most in this video

If this is a contest of price and durability. The Hilux backflipping all of them. Surreal durability for the price. I have one, for the last 8years, every single week it's going to carry 1tonne of load at least once a week. The verdict? It still a good one, minus less acceleration now after all the wear of usage, torque not a problem.
Could add the Isuzu Dmaz, Holden Colorado, Nissan Navara and Mazda BT50 in the race as well..

Came to TH-cam for serious reviews to make an informed business decision regarding economy, depreciation and reliability - stayed for the carwow drag race 😂
For the braking test, i would recommend to be done automatically with AI braking system that initiate the brakes at the cones. In that way we will be sure all cars brakes initiated perfectly. Just an idea to make the test more fair.
How do you use Ai braking?

Hilux gets the weakest motor(no 2.8L), ranger gets the weakest motor(no 3.2L) but the Amarok gets the V6(even though it has a 2.0t version)... Hardly fair to say the least...

Its funny to hear different engine specs... only the povo Hilux gets the 2.4 in NZ, ranger used to have a 3.2 5cyl diesel now a 2.0, the merc has a 3.0 v6 diesel as well and out Triton (l200) has a 2.5..

I doubt it, considering it is a Nissan Navara, so effectively a Renault also. It’s shameful, even some other Mercedes have Renault parts in them, I found an A Class with Renault logos on plastic parts in the engine bay.

@@japanluv Toyota and bmw are in a some kind of cooperation, as far as I can remember latest Z4 and upcoming Supra share engines and some other essential bits, but one of em is a coupe while the other is a convertible to prevent them from clashing
