    Easy pick for me, I’ll take the Sapphire. Not only do I like the overall design of it better, it’s built much better (neighbor has the Dream edition and he let me check it out). I’ve spent a lot of time around Teslas and the quality just isn’t there. Also, blue is my favorite color and I love how the interior of the Sapphire looks!
    Edit: The Model S is definitely a good looking car but I see so many of them and I don’t like that it still basically looks the same as it always has.

    I agree. If money was not a factor, Sapphire. However, for $250K and only 200hp more (maybe 100 more considering a plaid on a dyno puts 1,100hp to the wheels which is more than advertised) I just can’t see the value there. Brakes can be easily upgraded on the plaid so can suspension. The Yoke is the biggest irk for me though. I just hate that you can’t get a round wheel. I also prefer the higher refresh rate, resolution, and storage capacity of the Tesla’s interface.

    • @jlo13800
      @jlo13800 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Each of the Lucid engines can make 670 HP and 3* 670 is potential 2010 HP. They claim over 1200 HP so mabey about 1500 HP. Who knows.

    • @meadmaker4525
      @meadmaker4525 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Considering the Sapphire just beat the Plaid, a Bugatti Chiron, and a Ducati super sport bike in a quarter mile drag race, and the Bugatti is over 4 million dollars, $250K is a bargain for super-car speeds. I'm not saying it's not a lot of money. It is. But it's about more than just the HP numbers. The sapphire has significantly upgraded ground effects, brakes, suspension, tires, etc., and it has been lowered. All of those things together make it the fastest production sedan on the planet. Again, a bargain compared to what you'd have to spend to beat it, but I still can't afford one.

    The Lucid looks like a proper, sorted, 2023+ model luxury sedan.
    The Model S, along with the rest of Tesla's current range look very dated and 'half-finished' in my opinion; Sort of like Apple with the iPhone vs Android; Apple did the innovation and the groundwork, but now they just seem to be relying on their brand to keep everything going, whilst newer companies, and established ICU manufacturers very much start to overtake and surpass Tesla's range (as per a lot of android flagship phones with their features and function.)

      Yes, the Lucid is a better car. But it’s also a not insignificant $90,000 more than a Model S. $90,000 is the difference between a $30,000 Camry and $120,000 Mercedes Benz S Class. For MY money, I would take the Model S. But maybe skip the Plaid model so I could avoid the steering joke, I mean yoke.
      Tesla’s quality “problem” is not a problem at all and I’ve learned that it is now vastly overblown after ordering and taking delivery of my own Tesla last year.

    • @charliewright2667
      @charliewright2667 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pitech4446 nah bro, it shows tesla''s complacency from being top dog too long. Lucid basically exists because some of the top tesla engineers got pissed at elon and left lol. Imo lucid is only going to get better and cheaper, while tesla lost the original magic and momentum, with even combustion car companies making similarly specced cars at lower prices. If you buy a tesla in 2022 you're basically just buying it for the badge.

    • @michalfaraday8135
      @michalfaraday8135 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@charliewright2667 Lucid was founded in 2007, so nope. And the fact that they only started delivering their first car after 14 years tells you quite a bit about their momentum. As for Lucid getting cheaper, you did notice we are talking about a new more expensive model, right? The reason would be Lucid can´t make the cheaper ones without loosing too much money.

  • @blakespringpasturemortimer9168
    @blakespringpasturemortimer9168 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    In comparing the exterior side profiles of the two cars to conclude the Tesla is more visually appealing, one important reason for the difference is overlooked. When I set the driver's seat in our Lucid Air Dream Performance to my preferred driving position and do the same thing in our Model S Plaid, the rear seat of the Lucid has 9.5" more front-to-back legroom than the Tesla. Whenever we're carrying more than two adults, we invariably take the Lucid. It's just the kinder thing to do. Plus the Air is almost as quick as the Plaid but handles better (with a front end that stays better planted under hard acceleration) and with a quieter and more compliant ride to boot.

    I have a tesla X with FSD beta and I use it in the city and highway all the time. It keeps getting impressively better. That’s indispensable for me in a regular car / daily driver. I have a super car for fun, but if I’m traveling anywhere too far I’m going to zone out and let the car drive me (much less stressful).
    Edit: I also have the plaid S and love it, incredible car that’s almost too fast.

    Good review! Both cars have their attributes, but if I could scrape together $250K to spend on a car I'd wait for the Tesla Roadster. I don't know if I'll ever get to that point, so I'm more than happy with the Plaid for reasons Bembli pointed out. Another thing to consider is proximity of the dealer/service department. At the present time Lucid doesn't have a lot of them and the vast majority are located in California. For me the nearest Lucid dealer/service department is almost four hours away (one of two in Texas), while the nearest Tesla dealer/service department is only 15 minutes away, and I believe there are about a dozen others in my state.

    Considering they both look awesome, go insanely fast and can seat 5, I would go for the fully loaded S Plaid... then with the remainder 90K difference I would buy a model Y for the wife, put solar on the roof and powerwalls in the garage. Job done.

    • @doliver69
      @doliver69 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely! I can get full solar on my house with 90k. Plus the supercharge network that Tesla offers is a major tie breaker. It took me until 2015 to buy my first model S because I want dual motor. Then, after 7 years (and not a single issue besides 2 recalls - the entertainment module and the front lock - and about 2K in tires. That's it!) I traded for the Plaid. Still having tons of fun with it. Can't imagine Elon allowing Lucid go faster so that will remain to be seeing what Tesla will come up with. The quality though is not that great. My new Plaid is WAY better than my Model S 70D but not as good as Lucid. But if I wanted quality, I would have bought a Mercedes EQS.

    there's no debate. I'd take a base model Lucid air over a plaid any day. it just boils down to the fact that, even though it's an EV, the lucid has a soul put into it and the tesla doesn't. i couldn't drive the tesla and feel good about myself. yeah, of course i'd smoke everyone, but I would rather lose a race driving a fun car than win in a car that isn't fun at all

      @Dimetri777 i get you too. While I’m sad to see a lot of gas cars go, there’s some serious new opportunities for companies to make electric cars exciting in ways that gas cars can’t. I agree with what you said about tesla’s build quality and demand, etc. they’re still relatively new, so hopefully they’ll mature and find a way to make their cars more emotional than a touchscreen on wheels.

      @Dimetri777 Once you have over 400 miles of range, charging at home is practical for most people unless you drive more than 200 miles daily. People that do 50 to 100 miles a day can home charge reliably; just a topup. For the Sapphire, I imagine you can still get 300 miles of range with spirited driving.

      @Dimetri777 I don't have a car yet, much less an electric car, but I feel for you. and I agree with tesla on some things- staying in the same place is kinda like moving backwards in car design- but you should have the intuition necessary to understand WHY things are the way they are on most cars. ahem, like having a steering wheel be... an actual WHEEL. and electric car infrastructure is just disappointing right now to say the least. i hope some major change happens soon, and electric cars will become not only more affordable but the infrastructure will be there too. sorry about your troubles!
