Interesting conversation. I love the direction Lucid is taking with the Sapphire. Regarding the difference between the Sapphire and the Plaid with some small differences they are very similar in the straight and on the track as far as actual times. The rest is subjective feelings. Whether the price difference is worth it highly depends upon the buyer. There are certainly a lot more people who can afford $90k vs. $250k. Overall the competition and pace of advancement is a huge win for everyone. It’s not just changing the auto industry, it’s changing the energy industry, robotics, Ai, really the entire world.
A duo I never thought I'd see in a video together, shooting the sh*t while riding around in a 1234hp, full-size EV sedan. LOL but I'm 100% all for it. You two have good chemistry and a plethora of knowledge between both of your minds and I feel insanely lucky to be able to watch/listen/learn from you Jasons. Definitely hoping to see more from yall in the future. Thanks again for another great video man, so much learned and taken from it! 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Oh, what a brilliant suggestion! You two are just extremely good together, after all. Perhaps you could entertain us with a series where one Jason, the engineer, explains things on a whiteboard, while the other Jason does all the crazy stuff and puts the math to the test. Of course, it doesn't really matter which Jason does which, does it?
Agreed more of the 2 J's would be awesome! One condition comes to mind, make sure Randy P gets some face-time as he adds to any show he has been involved with, IMHO!
This was such a joy to listen to, interesting the full way thru. I finished and I just wanted to hear you guys talk about more. Hearing real talk about cars and not sensational promo material is always a breathe of fresh air.
Glad you guys finally got together. I am a big fan of both your channels but for different reasons. Jason C offers videos that are always very entertaining, and I appreciate his coverage of historical vehicles and he (and Randy) seems very enthusiastic about what he is doing. Jason F offers videos that are usually explaining something interesting, so I am paying very close attention, hanging onto every word making sure I understand every detail of what he is saying. Good the hear the explanation about braking for these quick cars - can accelerate faster than they can brake. Interesting to hear Jason C’s take on the handling of the Sapphire. We have finally reached the stage where the car‘s computer can control traction better than a human driver. And also great to hear Jason C’s comment that the Sapphire is ahead of MB on leading edge engineering.
Please do more videos together. You have great chemistry. Cammisa is one of my favorite automotive journalists. I used to look foward to his road & track articles before all this, everything's online, day and age.
These cars would not be allowed to run on an NHRA drag strip without a roll cage, a racing license, and a parachute. But yeah, let's just sell them to general public. Great collab!
I understand I’m in the minority here, but I think this comparison is analogous to: 1) If I had FU money, would I buy a Ferrari/Lambo over an Emira? No. 2) If I had FU money, would I buy a Lucid over a Tesla? Yes. But to your point, #2 is just generally true for luxury-leaning vehicles. The more categorically expensive luxury is more often the better luxury.
For sure! As discussed in the video, though it’s $90k vs $250k. With that extra $50k you could pair your Lucid with an M3P 😉! And there’s always a bigger fish, Lucid gets very close to Rimac times, yet Rimac is $2M.
Hearing a person like Cammisa wax automotive rhapsodic about this car like that is truly a surprise. He fucks around a lot, but he is truly serious when talks about how impressed he is with this car.
Loved this video! Lucid reminds me more of SAAB from what you're describing! Engineering to perfection, but at the cost of profit margin (and sales volumes, as their prices were quite high).
That was ridiculously sublime. I enjoyed every second of the banter and especially the content. On the other hand, I think non-engineers could find this a bit too content-rich, and the overall market potential of this video might be a touch limited. Kinda like the Lucid Sapphire itself.
Haha, it's the only way I know! Love this comment - like I said in the video, I'm frequently presented with why mentality is flawed, but pursue anyways.
They're inseparable aspects. If you spend three times as much as you charge, when your competitors spend 80% of what they charge, it's much easier to provide higher quality. But unsustainable quality is... unsustainable. Compromises have to be made or they will go bankrupt, like most car brands in history.
@@Muskar2 You both lack the information, knowledge that Lucid designs, develops, manufactures, produces every electric motor for Tesla and Lucid. Tesla purchases all of their components from other manufactures, producers. Only their S/W is developed within Tesla along with the robot manufacturing implementation, with assistance; Both of these have serious issues. Tesla has "Globalist/Elite" backing as do Lucid, Rimac, etc. Elon Musk is among their 'puppets', at least since PayPal with Peter Thiel; co-founders. My two favorite Jasons presenting together is awesome. Been subscribed here for probably 8 years and I've watched basically every curmudgeon show episode too, so the nerdiness and knowledge is no surprise
Uhh, that IS the gap you pay for in bleeding edge technology. It's not Ike you don't get what you pay for. It's a freaking Tesla Plaid vs an actual Luxury Hyper EV. I would never subscribe to the idea that any Tesla at this point in time is anything but a nice commuter EV with the best charging network.
@@xfuture3762 It runs the quarter mile UNDER 9, 0-60 in 1.85. You exponentially pay more for bleeding edge technology. It's not only faster, it handles better, it behaves better, it does what you want it to do. All things being equal who'd want a Model S Plaid? I wouldn't, people with excess money probably wouldn't either. Where's the prestige of a Model S plaid? It's a cheaply made "fast" car with its redeeming quality probably only being its charging network lol.. Yes I'm not including FSD yet because that's not ready yet but heh.. Lucid is working on their own FSD. The Sapphire looks a lot better IMO and has more room too..
Dear car makers, we all need tactile buttons because our muscle memory assists reaching the correct feature without looking and without endangering our lives...

I just watched the second video and loved it. First off I have been watching Jason from EE since like 16-17 like very early on. Loved the knowledge and the humor. Just found Jason C. Not too long ago and also enjoy his energy. The pair is almost too much. Lol you guys are awesome. Please make more stuff together. I need more thirty ish minute car ride conversations between you two.
You guys were driving one of five cars Lucid produced to give the media and others for testing and evaluation. My son-in-law works at the plant in Casa Grande, AZ where they are built. He was one of the last humans to go over and make sure everything was perfect on all five cars. When they sold the first Saphire to a real customer, he was assigned to install the front and rear windscreens to make sure they were as perfect as could be without damage (long story there) along with checking the entire car. His only complaint is he hasn't been able to drive one more than a few feet inside the plant. The SUV is coming soon. I hope Lucid stays in business.
I haven't, yet. The last Plaid I drove on track was the original; I'll get to the Track Package eventually. Kinda tough when Tesla has no press fleet - asking private owners to beat their car on track isn't easy.
Finished watching the 911 S/T video and then this one. Loved them both! My engineering-leaning mind ate up the content and then my goofy side got a few laughs in. Bravo!
I really appreciate and love how fast these vehicles are getting. That being said, I’m worried about reckless drivers. These cars are getting so blisteringly fast. I hope people can remember that they don’t own the road.
re: "That being said, I’m worried about reckless drivers. These cars are getting so blisteringly fast. I hope people can remember that they don’t own the road." an influencer's going to LAUNCH a Sapphire over the crest at Baxter and Alvarado in Echo Park.
What these companies need to start doing is have customizable screens. Have a piece of software where people can design the screen layout the way they want it. They could even have a "market place" where people can upload their layout so others can use it if they find one they like.
Tesla does actually let you move (and customize) the buttons at the bottom of the screen, which is actually really nice. I just wish they allowed for more "slots," so you could put more buttons in a dedicated spot.
Excellent piece. Lucid should give both of you a lot of credit because prior to this, I didn't think that much about so called luxury or performance EV's (Tesla). Lucid raised the bar and really need to go all out on advertising and letting people know more about their vehicle!
@@antblanks Since April 2019, Lucid has been majority-owned by Public Investment Fund, the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia. When a shareholder owns more than 50% of a publicly traded company, then they can control it because they can effectively call all the shots in board appointments and shareholders' meetings. And it matters because of Mohammed bin Salman controls that fund.
This was a joy, a treat and something I would love to see repeated whenever you can manage it.. And if you ever have a spare hour and change, and happen to be in the San Francisco area, please gatecrash The Carmudgeon Show for our viewing pleasure too..
Great video! Thank you! 🙂 As the price goes up, you get those diminishing returns. I'm not sure you can justify the Lucid price tag. This is a flagship that needs to sell cheaper cars .. if they can stick around long enough to build them. (This point was being made as I was typing lol)
I think the price is justifiable. It's the fastest car and, according to Jason, the most playful passenger car. At least for the time being, if they didn't sell it for that much, scalpers would. Once the brand is established and you can get one without waiting in line for a year, then they can lower the price to keep the waiting list favorable to them.
This is more about how the petulant manchild Elno aka Phony Stark and his sycophants insist on all these conditions and the Lucid comes along, didn’t insist on conditions, and can beat the Plaid, it can even beat the Plaid 0-60 on a public road any given time not under ideal conditions. This about one company that makes everything up as they go along to game their stock price, spinning a yarn about its questionable, often patently false greatness, just like liar Musk’s own manufactured backstories, and a company run by actual engineers (which Musk is not) comes along and just spanks the empty cardhouse of Tesla fragile egos and makes its cultist fanboys, like you, cry.
Wow!!! Camisa's analysis and ability to communicate said analysis is so amazing each time I experience it but this was a new level. Thanks other Jason!
I took a bit to watch this because of it's run time, but I really enjoy it. Seeing Jason C be less presenter mode and just chatting was exceptionally interesting.
Great video! I admire Lucid's engineering also, but I hope that the company survives long-term. They've got Saudi money keeping them afloat but that's not a good business model if you're not selling cars in volume.
Love the team up! Really like the assessment on the engineering of the the Sapphire and how it plays into the financial aspect of the Lucid company. Great work, gentlemen!

Definitely want to see more videos with Jason Squared; you have a natural chemistry and charisma that blends really well. Throttle House needs to be wary.
This video was great. Loved watching you two talk. I think that if you can afford this car and want it, it's worth the price. Consistency is key. Cars may not have as many things to monitor but look at an airplane's instruments. Regardless of what is being measured, the unit being used, or what "normal" is, all the needles point up. If one needle is pointed to the left, you know at a glance something's wrong.

Easily, one of the best collaborations of all time. Thank you both.
Great collaboration! An excellent exploration of the Lucid drawing on your respective perspectives.
Please do more videos together. You have great chemistry. Cammisa is one of my favorite automotive journalists. I used to look foward to his road & track articles before all this, everything's online, day and age.
I want a “Just put buttons in the car, FFS” t-shirt with Jason’s face on it.
These cars would not be allowed to run on an NHRA drag strip without a roll cage, a racing license, and a parachute. But yeah, let's just sell them to general public. Great collab!
Yeah, I believe this is the reason Tesla never put out the Plaid Plus it had planned. The car becomes a specialty car and way more expensive.
It's a Dodge sized middle finger that they made to steak across the plaid
I dont think anyone is debating if the lucid air sapphire is better than a plaid or not. $300k vs $90k is the issue
“$300k vs $90k”.
I understand I’m in the minority here, but I think this comparison is analogous to:
1) If I had FU money, would I buy a Ferrari/Lambo over an Emira? No.
2) If I had FU money, would I buy a Lucid over a Tesla? Yes.
But to your point, #2 is just generally true for luxury-leaning vehicles. The more categorically expensive luxury is more often the better luxury.
$250K vs $110K(with $20K track package)
Tesla build quality is garbage though.
For sure! As discussed in the video, though it’s $90k vs $250k. With that extra $50k you could pair your Lucid with an M3P 😉! And there’s always a bigger fish, Lucid gets very close to Rimac times, yet Rimac is $2M.
This is the same argument the average car enthusiast makes when they look at a $30k build vs a $110k one trick pony.
That was a truly enlightening dialogue, so thank you both for recording that.
Fantastic video! I am fully convinced of Lucid's engineering prowess. Hopefully the business side works.
Continues with Tesla, Space X [Jim Cantrell, first Exec VP, engineer, developer - now Phantom Space]
Be Aware, Informed, Knowledgeable, BEWARE !!
All of these EV and nearly all modern vehicles have complete manufacture control => Avoid - at any cost - even [seemingly] FREE => NOT FREE; NO Freedom !! 😞
Good Luck
More of 2Jasons content is needed in this world
I don’t watch many car videos but watched this whole thing. Two of you have fun chemistry and was an entertaining video. Enough to make me come to comments to look for links
That actually worked really well...I want more...
We need more Jason x 2! Great team and fun to watch
Genius collab! Who else noticed the rear wheel move forward before the body in that launch slowmo 😮
I did! @4:12
My two favorite Jasons presenting together is awesome. Been subscribed here for probably 8 years and I've watched basically every curmudgeon show episode too, so the nerdiness and knowledge is no surprise
This was very cool, you should be guest of the Carmundgeon Show with Jason & Derek I think
Camisa is the best thing that happened to your show ;) Welcome to big time Jason !
now lucid just needs to start making more vehicles
They're bankrupt. Need Saudi funding and they want lucid to relocate to Saudi Arabia. Made in Saudi Arabia
No, they need to sell the ones they already have which is $3B worth. No sense in making something you can’t sell.
The Sapphire is $250,000+, while the Plaid is $90,000, insane
And the sapphire is not even a production car. The 4680 models will all be out next year.
@@Slayer-33 $170,000 more for a 10th of a second quicker 0-60 is not hyper car level, Plaid 0-60 1.99, Sapphire 0-60 1.89
The argument here is the car is significantly more luxury? Think maybach prices
This was one of the best videos I’ve seen recently. Great rapport, genuinely funny and entertaining but also informative and inciteful, this format definitely works !
Thanks for sharing! Neat that your son-in-law works at the plant, tell him I said hello!
Lucid Motors is now controlled by the Saudis, so don't worry... those petrodollars will keep them afloat.
Any hint if the lucid gravity will get the sapphire power?
Excellent collaboration, love to see Lucid get recognition from different perspectives on this masterpiece of a car!
Did he try the Plaid with track package? Also, the yoke is optional (a regular steering wheel is available from Tesla).
Uncertain, and yes good point, Tesla did indeed bring back the regular steering wheel, thankfully.
I haven't, yet. The last Plaid I drove on track was the original; I'll get to the Track Package eventually. Kinda tough when Tesla has no press fleet - asking private owners to beat their car on track isn't easy.
@@JasonCammisa Can't wait for your opinion of the Track Package.
This has to be one on the all time best videos I have watched. Thanks Jasons.
Almost impossible to drive all out anywhere close to safely
What these companies need to start doing is have customizable screens. Have a piece of software where people can design the screen layout the way they want it. They could even have a "market place" where people can upload their layout so others can use it if they find one they like.
Generic tablet as display screen easily and cheaply replaceable size it as you wish
Since 2019, Lucid Motors is now controlled by the Saudis, so there's that.
@@ErebosGRwhats wrong with that?
This was a joy, a treat and something I would love to see repeated whenever you can manage it..
And if you ever have a spare hour and change, and happen to be in the San Francisco area, please gatecrash The Carmudgeon Show for our viewing pleasure too..
Big call about the handling, Cammisa! Got me very intrigued.
My Prius can manage 0 to 60 in about 1 week! However it is really economically and I love it.
Ok
Great video! Thank you! 🙂
As the price goes up, you get those diminishing returns.
It’s worth the price, but the Tesla Plaid is a much better value and not too far behind on performance.
How about a head to head with the Plaid with track pack for $110k vs the Sapphire at $250k
Not good in a couple of ways
November 7th is earnings day. Will be interested in the number of deliveries they made.
Love the team up! Really like the assessment on the engineering of the the Sapphire and how it plays into the financial aspect of the Lucid company. Great work, gentlemen!
These two should start a channel together. One Jason is the serious technical part, while the other is the silly crazy half.
Hey they both could do both parts !
Educational. Entertaining. Honestly it was perfect for me. You two have great chemistry. Thank you both.
This was the most beautifully perfect collaboration I’ve ever seen, please do more together
Am I the only one is insanely impressed with the suspension? It has to be incredible to be able to handle the power!
And be comfortable, and handle well, it's a great suspension.
What an great absorbing video, I found what you were saying really interesting. Your description of handling (Jason C) painted an image in my head of the car being driven as if I was the driver. Loved the geeky tech stuff too. You guys should do more stuff like this again. Please can you do the Lucid Gravity when it comes out too??
F-18E/F pilot. Yawn. 0-180 in 3 secs. Of course, that's with catapult assist.
You mean that's the catapult, maybe with a little assistance from the f18...
fantastic interplay between the 2 Jasons! I would love to see more of this!
Definitely want to see more videos with Jason Squared; you have a natural chemistry and charisma that blends really well. Throttle House needs to be wary.
Damn how do you drive backwards so quickly and effortlessly?
This video was great. Loved watching you two talk.
I think that if you can afford this car and want it, it's worth the price.
Consistency is key. Cars may not have as many things to monitor but look at an airplane's instruments. Regardless of what is being measured, the unit being used, or what "normal" is, all the needles point up. If one needle is pointed to the left, you know at a glance something's wrong.
Agreed, I love my Plaid but Tesla needs to bring the stalks back.. and can we put the horn back in the proper place, please?
Now this is the right amount of Jason to watch. Jason² all the way!
This is great! I love the Jasons energy :D You guys should make this more often! You two are my favorite car guys! It's great to see you together! I love how much I learn from your videos!
I see Jason Cammisa, I click
I love that TH-cam suggests “translate to English” when I see this comment. 😂 What does Cammisa even mean?!
@@EngineeringExplained that’s hilarious. Hope you guys find a reason to collaborate in the future.
Loved seeing the 2 Jasons together. Cammisa looked so uncomfortable sitting on the wrong side of the car.
I agree that you two are extremely good together. You should do a series where the one Jason is the engineer describing what something is capable of on the whiteboard and the other Jason does the yahoo crazy stuff putting the math to the test. And it doesn't matter which Jason does what.
Wow. Two of my favorites together in the same video! Love it!
Two of my fav guys/channels collaborating... awesome
