When MotorTrend tested the Model S Plaid in 2021, they broke all production car records. 0-60 in 1.98 seconds - with a long list of unique variables, including a prepared surface with VHT (glue), and deleting the first foot of rollout. Astonishingly, the Lucid can match that number, on a public road! The Lucid Air Sapphire's acceleration is certifiably bonkers.
Jason Fenske and Jason Cammisa will talk through the various systems that make this car possible, and how it achieves such insane results. Questions covered include:
1). Why is the 1,234 HP Lucid so much faster than the 1,111 HP Lucid?
2). Why is the Lucid's 0-60 time (acceleration) faster than its 60-0 time (braking)?
3). Why are the fastest EVs the heaviest EVs?
4). What is your favorite thing about the Lucid Air Sapphire?
5). What is your biggest complaint of the Lucid Air Sapphire?
6). Is the Lucid Air Sapphire worth $250k, especially considering the Tesla Model S Plaid is $90k?

**Full disclosure** - this episode happened mostly by coincidence; we both happened to be at the same event, and for road drives you typically need a driving parter (not enough cars for every outlet to have their own), so Jason agreed to be in the video. That said, I'd love to get your honest feedback on it. *If* coincidentally we are are at future events together, I'm happy to try and make it happen again, if folks like the format. What would you want to see happen differently next time? And to those who watch the whole video, you the MVP, thanks!!

Great energy, first time only listening, then watched it again, back-to-back!
      Just a 2 % gripe:
Jason the driver should Jason the passenger finishes his points sometimes.
Examples: Handling: “Like a hooligan, but it doesn’t bite!”. (23:32) Great quote, give it room to breathe. Infotainment “I don’t want it to be irritating” (29:09). Same. Just give the passenger 3 more seconds to finish his drive. It is a bit easier to follow and lets both of you shine a bit more.
And that is the only negative after watching it back-to-back. So, it is a great infotainment!

I have followed both components of Jason² for years, and there is no question that this is my favorite video that either of you have ever made. As an engineer with the flawed engineer brain, I love the authentic, unscripted banter about the Air and its unbelievable successes as well as the discussion of Lucid's uncertain future as a new player in the automotive world. Appreciating breakthroughs in technology while simultaneously critiquing the perfectionist mindset in the real world (all with an hint of automotive history) is simply the perfect mix. You both communicate well and have excellent chemistry together. I really hope you guys continue to collaborate in this relaxed fashion. This is some of the most enjoyable, funny, and informative content out there, and it's done without crazy edits or gags - just two gearheads (of... acceptable intellect) poking fun at themselves in a fast car!

Honestly this is the perfect combo. Cammisa brings in a little more humor and seems to extract more from your as well. He also adds a dose of emotion both around a car and brand which. That transforms an object into a story. It gives a more complete picture compared to an overly pragmatic mechanical approach which obviously everyone here also deeply enjoys. Diving into the mechanics satiates the inner nerd and helps inspire creativity in your viewers own life. A driving force for turning your army of 8 year olds into tomorrows Lucid 2.0. Best auto related video I’ve watched in a while.

They are forced by the rules of business to do exactly what they are doing. Luxury cars make the quickest ROI for manufacturers. Bottom feeder cars are needed to bolster the long term bottom line as well, but that takes longer, hence the Tesla Model S first, then the Model 3 and Y. Ford did the Model T, in any color you wanted, but all at the same time, black. But that market was there waiting for that product. The timing was impeccable. That can’t be done right now. Remember though, that when the Model S was the most important car to come out since the Model T, said the major magazines. I agree.

Jason, history history history, manufacturing, blah blah blah, "and here's what slide rule crowd says", walk over to you with a whiteboard segment on some inane detail of the car and some banter. It'd be kinda fun seeing another foil other than Randy.
This was fun, don't get me wrong, and I'd like to see another. But this type of unscripted off the cuff content isn't what either of you are best at or known for. It'd be fun to see what an actual mashup of your two styles would be like.

Glad you guys finally got together. I am a big fan of both your channels but for different reasons. Jason C offers videos that are always very entertaining, and I appreciate his coverage of historical vehicles and he (and Randy) seems very enthusiastic about what he is doing. Jason F offers videos that are usually explaining something interesting, so I am paying very close attention, hanging onto every word making sure I understand every detail of what he is saying.
Good the hear the explanation about braking for these quick cars - can accelerate faster than they can brake. Interesting to hear Jason C’s take on the handling of the Sapphire. We have finally reached the stage where the car‘s computer can control traction better than a human driver. And also great to hear Jason C’s comment that the Sapphire is ahead of MB on leading edge engineering.

Interesting conversation. I love the direction Lucid is taking with the Sapphire.
Regarding the difference between the Sapphire and the Plaid with some small differences they are very similar in the straight and on the track as far as actual times. The rest is subjective feelings. Whether the price difference is worth it highly depends upon the buyer.
There are certainly a lot more people who can afford $90k vs. $250k. Overall the competition and pace of advancement is a huge win for everyone. It’s not just changing the auto industry, it’s changing the energy industry, robotics, Ai, really the entire world.

You guys were driving one of five cars Lucid produced to give the media and others for testing and evaluation. My son-in-law works at the plant in Casa Grande, AZ where they are built. He was one of the last humans to go over and make sure everything was perfect on all five cars. When they sold the first Saphire to a real customer, he was assigned to install the front and rear windscreens to make sure they were as perfect as could be without damage (long story there) along with checking the entire car. His only complaint is he hasn't been able to drive one more than a few feet inside the plant. The SUV is coming soon. I hope Lucid stays in business.
