The Lucid Air is a time machine - Jason Cammisa on the ICONS Ep. 06 - Full Review and Track Test

- The ultimate luxury, you ask? It’s a time machine - the ability to go back and do it all over again, knowing everything you know now.
The Lucid Air Dream Edition P isn’t Tesla Model S 2.0, the company itself is Tesla v2.0, since many of the engineers and executives at the company benefited from the experience gained in setting up Tesla as a company.
And so the Air is a marvel of efficiency in packaging, powertrain, and aero. But its handling target was the E39-chassis BMW M5. And that’s a high bar.
With 1111 horsepower from two tiny motors, our test results showed the Air Dream Edition P could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 9.9 sec @ 143.5 mph: meaning it’s quicker than every Bugatti Veyron made, even the 1200-hp Vitesse and Super Sport models.
Does that make it a new benchmark of luxury? Or did Rivian do the right thing with the R1T, giving you the luxury of carting around more things and going more places?

I was literally on a similar mind track after I watched this one- 'Did... Did I just watch the opening of a Marvel movie?' Insanely good cinematography and great music choices to go with it. 👌🏾Honestly the best work from Jason Cammisa I've seen yet. The intro alone blows all other Icons reviews out of the water.

The sound production in this video really stands out. The music, motors, engines, tires, all come through crystal clear like you are sitting in the car with Jason. There should be an Oscars-type awards ceremony every year for videos published on TH-cam, including all the technical categories as well as acting.

@@jubayerwasidraiyan5874 To be fair, a lot of the "biggest TH-camrs" *became* as big as they are because they put a *lot* of effort, time and care into their productions. And yes, being able to afford to hire separate editors to compile and edit footage is a luxury of being successful that does give those TH-camrs a big advantage over smaller channels that are still one-man shows but, like with existing film festivals, there can be multiple categories, including a set of awards specifically to provide channels with under 1 million/500k/250k (etc.) subscribers the same level of exposure as the biggest channels would get at the event.
I fully agree. The music selection in particular is fantabulous, possibly scrumtrulescent.

Clarkson and the crew are pretty much legends. Throttle House and especially Jason here are just epic. I haven’t watched a video of any of you guys and not enjoyed it immensely. The machines you guys get to drive is truly epic, on top of that Jason could make the Prius story interesting.

Been a fan of Jason Camissa since motor trend and he has gotten better with each video. This is not a TH-cam video but a movie. Special mention to the entire Hagerty team for producing this spectacular content.
Jason, so creative and entertaining. And I’ve only watched the intro so far. I literally LOL’d at the Tesla 2.0 vanity tag. Home run. Again. Only thing I would add, and I bet you both considered this, is flame tracks as the Lucid zooms off and disappears back to the future. 😆 I just love your stuff. Whether I get to be part of it or not. The best car-enthusiast-centered productions I’ve ever seen. Thanks again Hagerty for giving Jason and Anthony (Director behind the camera) a platform to express their visions.

@@hughlevantjames905 Top Gear was never this good. Maybe Chris at his best is close to this, and he did some spectacular driving, but unless you're really in love with Clarkson's metaphors they were never as good as these Hagerty produced videos with Jason.

The quality of hagerty videos just cannot be applauded enough. Their videos are being seen by millions and still I would say they are underrated. Not to mention how much of great host Jason is.

Okay, benchmarking E39 M5. What a bold statement from Lucid air… that instantaineously gained my thumbs up. I always wondered why electric car companies are tech junkies and not car junkies. Thank god we got this car
I read somewhere that a few of the Lucid engineers drive E39 M5s, I don't know if it's true or not but I like to believe it is.
Maan if they used the E39 M5 to benchmark their sedan, I definitely want them to build their own EV sports car or supercar.
On one of the Carmudgeon episodes a while ago, Jason did say that all Lucid employees need to own a classic RWD BMW.

What an outstanding video. This is what car nuts really want! Hagerty Media makes 80% of my favorite car content right now. And apparently Thomas & James of Throttle House caught Hagerty’s attention. I agree with a previous comment: a North American Top Gear style show with Jason, Thomas & James sounds like loads of fun!

The throttle house cameo was a pleasant surprise, as they’re my favorite car reviewers. The production quality is as great as ever and Jason is just a fantastic host. Hagerty doesn’t disappoint.

I think part of what makes this video so good is that while primarily promoting the Lucid Air, you also give credit to the highlights of the other cars instead of mocking their flaws. Gives an impression of a more objective approach, which is great.
The Lucid Air review by Throttle House was one of my favourite car reviews ever, Top Gear included, I'm a huge fan of theirs and the last time they collaborated with Jason it was pretty amazing. This however, this is somehow even better. I'm astonished. The bar has been raised.

You have to be a content creator or a cameraman to truly understand the amount of work they have done to create this video... Tiny bits that require an enormous amount of work for a relatively small end result. it differentiates the exceptional ones, like this one, from all other great ones out there. Unmatched production quality on a topic and a car which we know deserve it...
Actually I think you have to be a producer like myself to really understand. My mind was going thru everything from the drones, the permits, the transportation, the meals, the insurance, the payroll, EQ, on and on and on. A cameraman sees 1/1000th of the work the production team is engaged in. And a content creator? Pfffft. They have no idea.
You don't have to be a content creator to realize all of this.
@@fakenorwegian4743 You are right the producer have a lot of headaches too crew just do a specified job.I just meant in general you gotta work in the field to truly appreciate the amount of work and time... In this day and age lot of great videos on TH-cam. Audiences are use to that but even smaller videos shot on a desk takes quiet bit of work and time some just take it for granted videos have to be at certain quality like everything has to be this good.

The production quality here is unrivaled. It feels like a Christopher Nolan film, but we're talking about a car video. For my money, the music is the star of the show, though it may get subconsciously undervalued because of how beautiful the visuals are. These aren't the car videos we deserve, these are the car videos we need.

This car tells of devotion. Its maker wanted to make his best contribution to a great story and add a new, special chapter to it. It feels like a hug and a bowing homage to automotive history and future at the same time.

It feels that way. If Tesla, Lucid, and Rivian all succeed in the long run this will be the most significant era in the American car industry in 100 years. Just need Cadillac to finally fulfill its potential, and Lincoln to keep up the mini renaissance it’s been going through, and we will have a spate of highly attractive higher end domestic options for the first time in my life.

I used to install large motors and pumps in my electrician past life, I know how heavy they can be. Watching him casually walk around with that in his arms might be the biggest mind F of this video for me. Absolutely amazing.

It might've been a lighter demo mockup of the motor with all the same dimensions, made specifically for things like this.

This needs ten times the views it has, feels as if I'm watching Top Gear again, the track test is just pure bliss, the sound design, the imposition, the shot selection, all sublime. I keep going back 12:43 and watching from there over and over again, I'm less excited about the car and more excited about what I'll get to see from Jason and Anthony.

I grew up watching Top Gear. And I've seen it all, the Motor Trends to Farah's films to the stuff Catchpole or Harris makes. And everything inbetween.
