I have owned my Lucid air base model 419 miles with full charge which is amazing, best car I have ever owned, the attention I get on road from people for this car is unbelievable
People like to pile on criticizing this car without ever having driven one of these cars. Of course there is always an orientation period with any new car, electric or not, and this car is no different but the engineering that went into designing this car is really impressive. I'm not talking about gadgets engineering but the functionality of the car. The performance is obvious but the roominess and storage capacity of the car for its size is really impressive. I look forward to Lucid putting everything they learned from this car going into a less expensive version like Tesla did
They will, for the fact of rarity, something new.. Lucid needs to bring something to compete with tesla x and model 3 Something more affordable This seems to be company’s flagship model
Such a beautiful car. Probably driving the same path as Tesla in the early days appealing to the rich first and with more affordable models later. And it's probably going to be a great alternative.
The problem is Tesla had no competition when they did that. Lucid needs to be better than all other alternatives to justify the price tag. I don't know if this is the case after seeing this review. Currently, their sales numbers look not very promising.
At that price, most of the rich will just get the model x. Heck for that price I could get both the model s plaid and a model 3, ans both seem to have a better designed interior (I never thought I would say that in my life)
So what happens to the center screen if you put something that's just a tad to big for the center cubby space. Will it just stop where it can't go further or will it just press on and break itself??
Tesla model 3 has been advertised on the secondhand market for a little as a new economy car. The part they did not hope for was having to find a charging station that actually worked
Hi Matt, I am from India and I really enjoy your all videos. As I am working in automotive industry from last 12 years and companies like VOLKSWAGEN, GENERAL MOTORS, KIA INDIA & now currently working with JLR INDIA
Matt having a style over reality moment there. 19" rims with a decent sidewall are perfect for the UK. 21" with rubber bands for tyres are not even worth considering unless you like new rims on a regular basis
We can't do anything about it since companies already know alot about the human mind. And they can trick us into wanting it without showing that it was intended that way, that's how Tesla fans grew. They found a hook, they cling into it, and now it's a part of them. ( ye, sorry for the long explanation, couldn't help my self )
Imagine the cost of having to replace that massive windshield (or wind screen)when it gets a crack in it while driving on our roads here in our Canadian winters
Great review Matt as usual, thank you. The Lucid looks great from the outside but the inside still needs tweeking to be perfect considering the asking price. It just seems to be Americans trying to compete with Germany. They have a long way to go and prices to drop.
To be honest, what the Amies are doing is no less than robbery in broad day light. Just take Tesla, interior is a tablet and huge amount of cheap plastic!. Exterior- wise it’s re-invention of the wheel but still there are lots of naive people who pay twice of a Merc or Bm price for Tesla coz they think Elon Mask is genius!!
I wish you'd check your facts a bit first, as well as Matt, because more than half of the price you all pay is due to import taxes. The Lucid starts at ~$80-90k in the US, so it's a bit ridiculous to blame the company for that $200k price tag when they can't do anything about _your_ country's laws.
The problem for buyers is wondering whether Lucid will still be around as a company three years from now. Will you have support for the very expensive car you just bought?
It looks a bit unfinished in places, the steering wheel creaking would drive me mad. It also looks a little tricky to keep in a straight line under full acceleration, like the systems arnt yet quite as resolved as the teslas. 1111 bhp is hilarious though, just a crazy output.
As a former employee I can tell you. A lot of the interior actually feels really cheap anyone that says otherwise is lying to themselves to justify the price. Example: the center console sliding cover is a thin piece of cheap wood. Those volume and ac controls are very cheap and get loose very quickly, 1 crappy wireless charger that you have to shove your phone into and won't charge the iPhone max unless it's flipped upside down. Glove box is also crap quality. The glass does not protect you enough from the sun radiation. I could go on and on lol
@@jdveloz7015 Interesting. What are (in your opinion) the biggest + and - of a lucid air? The Tesla has nicer tech overall (FSDbeta or good Infotainment), air suspension and a charging network. Does Lucid have mandatory service intervals?
If Tesla opens ALL it's supercharger stations and this was 50-60k all in, then I would buy it for sure. 350 miles/563 km is enough to overlook most of the issues with this car. This would be my roadtrip vehicle.

To trick unknowing people into thinking their cars are faster than they really are. There is no reason to ever measure 0-60 with rollout. It is just nonsencial because it is literally simply starting the clocks after the car is allready accelerating. It is just like doing a 100 meter dash but only starting the clocks once the athelets reach the 10 meter mark. Why would they do this? Marketing and tricking people. Tesla did it first to achieve their "sub 2 seconds" 0-60 time which they otherwhise would not be able to. Pretty much overselling your product to make investors happy. I guess Lucid started copying this stupid way of measuring to compete. Let's see how long it takes until someone starts doing 2ft or 3ft rollouts to "achieve" even better 0-60 numbers.
I’d like to correct a few things in the video. Dream Range edition total range is 517 miles. Dream performance is around 469 miles. It’s not 550 miles. Although that doesn’t explain why you saw 3.0 mpkwh figure but it’s not as bad as you thought it is. With the sprint mode or other driving factors influence the efficiency

Agree completely with everything you said about this car. I recently drove one in Switzerland at their display at the Concourse D' Elegance near Geneva, and thought it was a great car too with better build quality than my sister's Tesla. Just had a few small issues that you already mentioned like floor height etc. Also, coming from Australia and being used to driving Right hand drive vehicles on the other side of the road, the width of the car was something that was very obvious to me when making sure not to clip any gutters!
@@BarkerT Historically, in the US acceleration times are measured with one foot rollout. In this procedure, two light beams are used for measurement. At the starting point, the front tire of the stationary car triggers the first one. By the time, the tire crosses the second one 12 inches away, it triggers the start of the time. Reason, why I personally find it annoying, is, because it delivers smaller numbers which get often mixed up when people think about 0-60mph or 0-100kmh times. To add to that, some car manufacturers use this for aggressive, but superficial and misleading marketing. I am thankful, that journalists try to make measurements under clearly defined conditions. Except of course the British weather. That, no one can control.
@@BarkerT According to an article of car and driver, the measurement with one foot rollout can be seen as something like 3-60 mph times, roundabout, that can differ.

My "gaming char" works like this for the head-rest. Its magnetised. So its connected really well when needed, but if you pull it apart, its seamless.
Hi Mat, Big fan your channel. You should do a deacceleration test from some speed like 50 miles per hour to 0 with regen and then measure the distance or time so we viewer can compare it to other electric cars. :)
If we're going to be drowning in stratospherically priced cars, at least they should be as spectacular as the Lucid. Looks like something very special.
The lower range would have been because you were in the fastest driving mode , you would have to be in the lowest mode and the highest regen to achieve the best range .
It is like the first Model S. I hope for Lucid to build on that car and I can’t wait to see their first Lucid Model Y. I know the next one is the Gravity which is more of a Model X. They follow the same S.3.X.Y pattern so far

I really like the Lucid Air, but they're literally asking about twice what it's worth and I think that's gonna end up killing the brand before it gets anywhere. You're right, it's not luxurious enough to justify the money, and at that price point it shouldn't have any bugs whatsoever (like deciding you need a PIN in the middle of driving, or failing to detect the key fob that's right there in the car). It's infotainment system is also really laggy and glitchy, but I suppose that could be fixed with OTA updates. Also, to be fair, the Lucid Air Dream Edition you tested was never rated for 500+ range. Only the Lucid Grand Touring is rated for that, and only with the 19" wheels. And as with ICE cars, when you run the AC and/or drive like a lunatic, your range will decrease. Hagerty did a fantastic drag strip comparison of the Lucid Sapphire against a Model S Plaid, Bugatti Veyron, and a Ducati. If you haven't seen it, you should definitely check it out. That car is RIDICULOUSLY fast. Although, having said that, I think your "F*CK" reaction to the Lucid's acceleration was perfect. Tell us everything we need to know right there. LOL.
Decide between paying the equivalent of a mortgage for a car or an actual brick and mortar. I think it's a no-brainer. These EV manufacturers are nuts on their price.
3 miles/ kWh is pretty good for a >1000 hp vehicle. Personally not a fan of the looks, and would be considering a model with far fewer hp (400 is all that you need, surely?) 😊

I've cracked two windscreens in the last 12 months (heat cycling the first and a rock for the replacement). Not sure if the insurers would have been satisfied with a £100 excess for a windscreen as expensive as that one looks though!
Yes.
Apparently so based off other peoples experience. Around $700 USD to get it replaced so insurance should be ok with that.
@@tomtho1 Thankfully all of the sensors and bits that matter are not on the windshield or are on parts that glue to it, so it really is just a giant piece of glass.

It’s backed by the Saudi government.
I look forward to Lucid putting everything they learned from this car going into a less expensive version like Tesla did
Just can’t imagine anyone with that much money to spend on a car, choosing this one
of course they do, they have like 3 porsche, a bugatti, a mclaren, a plaid and this one as well

Currently, their sales numbers look not very promising.
whut - at that price ... no way.
At that price, most of the rich will just get the model x. Heck for that price I could get both the model s plaid and a model 3, ans both seem to have a better designed interior (I never thought I would say that in my life)

Being quite generous with "great looking" there Mat! 😋
Get in there Matt!
3:00 Thought he was gonna say... "You probably need to sell your current car... and your house along with that... to afford this" 🤣
The problem for buyers is wondering whether Lucid will still be around as a company three years from now.
Personally I think they do have some nice things like the big battery, good performance, good efficiency and a nice design. But so does the Model S.
I guess the Lucid has a nicer ride and is quieter and also has some nice features like 360 degree view. The Tesla has nicer tech overall (FSDbeta or good Infotainment), air suspension and a charging network.
Does Lucid have mandatory service intervals?
he turned everything off. sprint is track mode.
I would definitely buy this if it would have cost around 50-60k.
I easily have it if they paid me 100k
If Tesla opens ALL it's supercharger stations and this was 50-60k all in, then I would buy it for sure. 350 miles/563 km is enough to overlook most of the issues with this car. This would be my roadtrip vehicle.

23:45 - Why do some American manufacturers use the ‘one-foot rollout’ method when publishing 0-60 times, instead of just doing it from a full standing start?
It's how timing lights work. It's always been there, but is now noted.

The rattle when you slammed the frt door shut. Was that because of the frameless door glass. Needs to be sorted. Good job it has soft close doors.
A Like for not measuring with 1 foot rollout, thanks Mat, keep up the good work 👍
What the hell is one foot roll out?

I think what they need is some powerful magnets on the window and the sun visor. It then integrates somewhere when not needed (presumably door panel) and then when you need it, you take it and it will automatically clip when close cos of the magnets.
My "gaming char" works like this for the head-rest. Its magnetised. So its connected really well when needed, but if you pull it apart, its seamless.
