It hasn't been a great year for film on the whole, but I really enjoyed The Substance ; the Kubrick comparisons are very apt. Demi has always struck me as one of the more interesting leading ladies of her time, on screen and off. Even "in her prime", she took chances that the likes of Roberts and Ryan never did and she had a gritty quality to her, along with the glamour.
Dodgy audio for this one. Harry and I were in different locations so had to do it remotely. Think we have done okay considering! Thanks and hope you enjoy :) Slightly different style of video hopefully next week
Another amazing video - feel very privileged that I'm one of the few people TH-cam allows to see this channel, otherwise it would be watched by millions
Your videos are not only amazingly interesting but so helpful to hear how you managed these various high pressure situations. I would love to see a masterclass or attend a workshop from you!! Keep up the excellent videos and sharing these stories with us.
what a great relationship the two of you have - 'stopped watching the film because I wanted to watch with you" (paraphrasing) enviable. Great shots as usual too.
Harry at his eloquent best. 14:20 of Minnie Driver is unexpected, beautiful light, colour, framing and and bokeh. Her eye and cheek bone are so well lit
Take-a-ways: I've got to pick up my vocabulary. Don't smoke ( which I don't). Shoot first, let the interview happen after. Nice interview. Harry's insights are great. Looking forward to the next.
Haha harry sure does use a lot of words for someone as dyslexic as he is. And dont forget smoking is okay if it means getting some good pics! ;) Glad you enjoyed thanks for watching!
I was quite moved that he didn't tell that comedian about his father being Jewish, a protective gesture, I feel, in the presence of someone who would almost certainly react in mocking and cruel fashion. A gem of a moment in this video.
'The Substance' is splashy, trashy and largely enjoyable. Agree on the framing & composition. Never had the urge to vomit. Girl friends confirm that there are countless tiny details which women would identify with strongly. Another great video conversation !
Did anyone else pause and read the article at 12:10? I thought it was utterly deranged. I don't think we've lost much by Marianne MacDonald changing careers. 😂
A very British style of journalism that was popular back in the day, which was more about the journalist showing off than offering any insight into the subject. Hopefully now extinct...
@@paulmatthews8708 Also, the 90's was the decade of indie, so it was quite common for cool people to be jaded about mainstream culture. That article goes several steps too far, though, and just seems insane.
Loads of interesting insights as usual. I have yet to see Substance, but it's definitely on the list. I read that first page of Marianne MacDonald's copy and instantly felt more sympathy for Demi Moore - which didn't seem to be MacDonald's intention. I understand why she is better suited as a merchant banker. The thing about Lynn Barber - and I've read both Demon Barber and Mostly Men - is that rather than having an urge to be a waspish, talked-about, journalist, she has a genuine interest in her subjects. The stiletto is definitely present yet swathed in velvet. MacDonald seems to barge through the celebrity doors, unloading a blunderbuss of bad intention and 'ME, ME, ME! attitude. Barber is informed, insightful, funny, honest, harsh, but fair. And your photography and commentary possesses many of these same characteristics.
so ready for the ✨ QUEEN ✨ to return to our screens
Thanks @youtube!!!! ❤️

Seemed fine to me. 👍
Honestly these clips are the perfect end to my day - well done!

easy tiger 😂
Just brilliant. I love the natural light shots. What a classy insight into working with such a successful actor at that time
I hope she finally gets an Oscar Nomination and Best Hair and Makeup for the Team!
This is my new fav YT channel. Love it. Thank you.
Thank you. Means a lot!
It's definitely something to look forward to on a Monday

Wow, really stunning shots. And such a nice range of styles in one short shoot. Brilliant work.

I absolutely love the stories behind the shots, love this channel
Fascinating about the reflection in Jarvis’ glasses!
You got better on the questions/narration side Fred... Great stuff! Thanks!
Cheers Jan! Hope you are well thanks as always for the comments.
Good work gents.

Fantastic square B&W shots of Demi. Can't imagine you falling out with any subject, oh apart from Hillary may be !!

Would love a video on your shooting with Minnie Driver!!
Yeah, that shot of Minnie looks masterful.
amazing
Thank you, your comments are always appreciated!

Absolutely awful. Thanks for pointing that out
Completely agree. It just seems unnecessary.
When reading Lynn Barber's more negative pieces they just seem classier or more thought out. Idk why haha
Thanks for pointing it out. There was some blasé and abrasive writing in the 90's but that really takes the biscuit.

Your use of ringflash was quite accomplished as you were mindful of the depth of lighting. Others often create very flat images using ringflash.
Thats very complimentary, sent it to Harry! Thanks a lot and thank you for commenting. Harry really does love the ringflash haha
Idea for a video - what photopapers do you recommend for portraits? Matte, semi Matte, textured vs no texture. Do you hava a favorite?
Can we hear the mark e smith stories please? Thank you
I know what you mean, I photographed some known musicians and they give you something like 5 or 10 min andyou need to do a good shoot no matter what
@@Noname-yu8qw yep. Get something strong and decent in the bag straight away is what Harry's says. Cheers for the comment! 😁
what ever happened to the Kanye episode? the people need to see it
Haha its on the list. We plan to re do it soon!
@@fredandharryborden redo, did it get deleted? only seen the reference to it in another vid
substance is great until the end 😂
Bernard Manning had / other his dad was Russian Jewish (!) so it might have alright to reveal that?
Really? I shouldn't have been so coy!
Bernard Manning was Jewish, I don't think he would have cared that your father was also.
vomiting? thanks?
